A concerning clip from this week’s SmackDown taping had fans worried about WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green, but a new report suggests there’s less to it than it looked.
Footage from the taping, set to air this Friday, < cite index=”2-1″>showed Green being helped to the back by trainers, sparking fears of a fresh injury on top of the orbital bone fracture she’s already nursing. That existing injury has already disrupted her championship reign, one that came about in the first place due to Rhea Ripley’s own injury layoff.
However, < cite index=”2-1″>the wrestling news account False Finish reported on social media that the hobbling seen in the clip was a scripted “work” rather than a legitimate injury.
Green won the Interim Women’s Championship at SummerSlam 2026, a title created specifically so WWE could keep someone holding the belt on TV without having to formally strip Ripley of it. WWE has since quietly dropped the “interim” label from Green’s title reign, though the company hasn’t made any official declaration that Ripley is no longer champion. Green has also been given a 30-day window to defend the title or risk losing it — a stipulation that hasn’t been enforced on other champions in recent memory.
