WWE changed a world title at a live event, and the reason was the postcode.
Stephanie Vaquer beat Liv Morgan for the Women’s World Championship in Santiago on Saturday, on the closing night of WWE’s South America tour. Title changes away from television are rare enough that the decision needed explaining. WrestleVotes gave it in a Q&A on Fightful Select.
For Stephanie to go over where she did was simply based on location. They had the moment right there, and they didn’t want to squander that moment, so they did a good job of figuring out how to get there with Becky Lynch involved. They wanted to reward Stephanie Vaquer in her hometown. That’s the reason she is the new champion.
Lynch was the mechanism. She worked as a special guest referee and refused to count a pinfall when Morgan looked to have the match won, which gave Vaquer the opening to come back and take the title in front of a home crowd.

The tour was built for moments like it. WWE ran four countries across four nights, opening in Quito on September 9 with its first Ecuador show in a decade and closing in Santiago, having not been to Chile in seven years.
Vaquer had been advertised as champion when the dates were announced in April, which turned out to be a little ahead of itself.
