WWE has reportedly covered every cent of Konnan’s medical bills, a sum Vince Russo estimates exceeds one million dollars, following news that the wrestling legend has undergone a double leg amputation.
Russo shared the update during the latest episode of The Coach and Bro, calling the company’s financial commitment something that “has to be pointed out.”
As per Russo, Konnan has now lost both legs. The 62-year-old former WCW star had one leg amputated earlier this year in San Diego, and Russo says the second was removed after his condition worsened.
Konnan has gone through a double leg amputation. Yes, both legs,” Russo said. “I knew he had the one leg amputated and the second one was in question. That was the last time I talked to him, probably about two months ago. They had to remove the second one.
WWE Picked Up The Entire Bill
Russo revealed that he spoke with Konnan the day before the show and kept the call short because his longtime friend was weak and going through grueling rehabilitation. It was during that conversation, Russo said, that Konnan wanted to make a point about WWE.
Konnan said to me that the WWE has paid every single cent of his medical bills,” Russo said. He stressed the weight of that given everything Konnan has endured, noting his friend spent six months in rehabilitation before learning to cope with the loss of both limbs.
So he said, ‘Vince, the WWE have paid every penny, and I was only working with them for a short time,'” Russo recalled.
Decades Of WWE Ties Through AAA
Konnan is best known for his WCW run but Russo noted his WWE connection stretches back decades and continued more recently through the company’s AAA dealings. Konnan’s working relationship with Nick Khan and WWE through AAA has kept him involved in Mexican wrestling business.
Well, he was Max Moon years and years and years ago, but he was also working with them most recently with the AAA stuff,” Russo said. “Every time there’s something happening in Mexico, Konnan’s involved in it.
Co-host Jonathan Coachman called it “tip of the cap to TKO, tip of the cap to Nick Khan,” suggesting the bill could run into the hundreds of thousands or even a million dollars.
Russo agreed the total was likely even higher, estimating it was “well over a million dollars for something like that.”
The update follows earlier reports when Konnan was hospitalized with severe health issues tied to the complications that led to the amputations.
