WWE Hell in a Cell 2020 aired on the WWE Network from the ThunderDome in the Amway Center. Drew McIntyre defended the WWE Championship against Randy Orton in the main event.

Roman Reigns Retained In An Incredible Match With Jey Uso
Roman Reigns defended the Universal Championship against Jey Uso in a I Quit Hell in a Cell match. Before he entered the ring, Roman Reigns asked for forgiveness for what he was about to do.
Match Recap: Roman Reigns and Jey locked up to start off the match. Reigns threw Jey to the ropes and leveled him with a shoulder tackle. Roman followed it up with a massive right hand to the face and then a Suplex. Reigns knocked Jey to the canvas with a Clothesline and said that he was wasting his time.
Jey caught Roman with a boot to the face and followed it up with an Enziguri. Jey launched Roman into the cell and then connected with a Crossbody. Reigns leveled Jey with a Spear and told Jey that in a few minutes he is going to wish that he never came here.
Uso hit Reigns with a Dropkick and went for another one but Roman caught him with a right hand to the face. Reigns hit Jey with another massive Spear but Jey refused to quit. Roman went for another Spear but Jey blocked it and connected with a Superkick.
Jey made his way to the top rope and hit the Uso Splash. Jey followed it up with another Uso Splash and Reigns said \”the head of the table never quits\”. Uso grabbed a leather strap and brought it into the ring. Jey whipped Reigns across the back several times but Roman shrugged it off and hit Uso with a third Spear.
Reigns grabbed the leather strap and started whipping Jey across the back. Roman tied the strap around Jey\’s wrist and whipped him across the chest. Jey dodged a Superman Punch and tied the strap around Roman\’s neck. Jey started choking Roman and Reigns passed out.
Jey grabbed a steel chair but Roman popped up and hit a Superman Punch. Reigns then locked in the Guillotine choke as Roman shouted that he will make Jey take his last breath. Jey didn\’t give up and Roman released the hold. Roman leaned over Jey and told him to quit or he is going to take this next level.
Roman brought Jey the apron and connected with the Drive By. Reigns put Jey\’s head up against the ring post and set up the steel steps next to him. Roman patted Jey on the head and hit another Drive By that sent the steps into Jey\’s head. The referee tried to stop the match but Reigns prevented it and launched him out of the ring.
Officials rushed the ring and tried to stop Roman but he threw the steel steps into the ring. Roman put the steps on top of Jey and said that he is better, he is the man, and is the Tribal Chief. Reigns was about to bash the steel steps on Jey\’s head but Jimmy Uso got into the ring.
Jimmy had tears in his eyes and told Roman that he didn\’t have to do this. Reigns got choked up and sat down in the middle of the ring. Jimmy told Reigns that whatever he is going through they will help him but this is not it. Reigns stated that he doesn\’t even know who he is anymore and that he is sorry. Roman hugged Jimmy and then locked in the Guillotine choke. Jey grabbed Jimmy\’s hand and said that he quit. Roman Reigns is still the Universal Champion. After the match, Reigns\’ uncle and father (Afa and Sika) presented him a lei as the Tribal Chief.
Opinion: I thought that this match was awesome. The performances by Reigns, Jimmy, and Jey were amazing and I was completely invested for the 45 minutes. I haven\’t seen storytelling executed this well in wrestling in a long time. The Hell in a Cell was largely irrelevant during this match but I didn\’t care. Reigns and Jey could have this match at a mall and I would have been just as riveted because of their performances.
Jeff Hardy Hit Elias With The Guitar
Jeff Hardy faced Elias tonight at WWE Hell in a Cell.
Match Recap: Jeff Hardy controlled the action early and focused his attack on Elias\’ arm. The action spilled out of the ring and Elias sent Jeff into the barricade. Jeff got back into the ring right before the referee counted to ten and Elias greeted him with a stomp to the back.
Jeff went for the Twist of Fate but Elias countered into a Powerbomb for a near fall. Jeff hit Whisper in the Wind and then a Twist of Fate. Hardy climbed to the top of the ring post but Elias rolled out of the ring. Jeff hopped down and then hit Elias across the back with the guitar to end the match in a DQ.
Tucker Betrayed Otis & Miz Won The MITB Contract
The Miz battled Otis tonight at Hell in a Cell. The Money in the Bank contract was on the line and Tucker & John Morrison were ringside for the match.
Match Recap: Otis dominated early and The Miz begged for mercy. Miz sent Otis out of the ring and went for a Dropkick but Otis got out of the way. Otis hit Miz with a Clothesline and then bounced Miz\’s head of the announce table a couple of times.
Back in the ring, Morrison hopped on the apron for a distraction and Miz capitalized with a DDT for a near fall. Morrison hit Otis with a cheap shot and Miz hit some It Kicks in the corner of the ring. Otis took back control and Morrison hopped on the apron once again. The referee kicked Morrison out as Otis rolled up Miz for a two count. Tucker hit Otis in the head with the briefcase and The Miz covered him. The Miz is now Mr. Money in the Bank.
After the match, Tucker said that they were supposed to be a team but he did everything for the team. Tucker claimed that Otis cannot function without him and he was the one that gave him the confidence to ask out Mandy Rose. Otis showed up and chased Tucker away.
Sasha Banks Captured The SmackDown Women\’s Championship
Bayley defended her SmackDown Women\’s Championship against Sasha Banks tonight.
Match Recap: Sasha Banks knocked the chair out of Bayley\’s hand and launched to the entrance ramp right before the cell was lowered. Sasha locked in the Bank Statement in the middle of the ring. Bayley bit Sasha\’s hand to break the hold and then rolled out of the ring.
Bayley dodged a Dropkick and slammed Banks into the cell. Bayley grabbed a kendo stick but Sasha ripped it away and slid it out of the cell. Bayley hit Banks with an elbow to the throat and grabbed another kendo stick. Banks knocked Bayley to the floor and threw the kendo stick in the ring. Sasha brought a table out but Banks attacked her and connected with a Meteora against the cell. Banks climbed to the top rope and hit another Meteora for a near fall.
Bayley battled back and knocked Banks out of the ring. Bayley tried to hit Banks with a chair but Sasha got out of the way. Banks sent Bayley into the cell and followed it up with a Dropkick that sent Bayley crashing into the steel steps. Sasha set up kendo sticks from the steel steps to the cage but Bayley tripped her up and Sasha fell into the steps. Bayley then catapulted Banks into the kendo sticks.
Back in the ring, Bayley went for the cover but Banks was able to kick out at two. Sasha Powerbombed Bayley into the cell and went for the cover but the SmackDown Women\’s Champion kicked out at two. Bayley slammed Sasha\’s face on a steel chair and then set up another chair in between the middle and top turnbuckle.
Sasha bounced Bayley\’s face off the steel chair and went for Double Knees but Bayley got out of the way. Bayley then Powerbombed Banks on the chair for a near fall. Bayley followed it up with an Elbow Drop off the top rope for another two count. Sasha hit the Backstabber and transitioned into the Bank Statement. Bayley escaped the hold by rolling out of the ring.
Bayley tied up Sasha in the ring apron and bounced her head off the steel ring beam. Bayley then unloaded on Sasha with several strikes with the kendo stick. Bayley then taped kendo sticks together but couldn\’t rip the duct tape. Banks sprayed Bayley in the face with a fire extinguisher and threw her into the cell wall a couple times.
Banks brought Bayley to the ring and hit her over and over with a kendo stick. Sasha made her way to the top rope and went for a Frog Splash but Bayley put a chair on her midsection. Bayley slammed Banks\’ head on the floor outside the ring (Rose Plant) and went for the cover but Banks kicked out at two.
Bayley brought a ladder into the ring and set it up across two chairs. Bayley laid Banks across the ladder and grabbed a can of spray paint from under the ring. Bayley spray painted an X on Sasha\’s stomach and climbed to the middle rope. Bayley tried to jump onto Banks but Sasha got out of the way and Bayley hit the ladder.
Sasha hit an incredible Meteora over the ladder and followed it up with a Bayley to Belly. Banks went for the cover but Bayley was able to kick out at two. Bayley then connected with the Bayley to Belly for a near fall. Bayley went for another Bayley to Belly but Sasha countered into the Bank Statement. Sasha trapped Bayley\’s head in the chair and stomped on it while maintaining the hold. Bayley tapped out and Sasha Banks is the new SmackDown Women\’s Champion. Sasha put her foot on Bayley\’s back and posed with the title after the match.
Opinion: Bayley and Sasha Banks put on an awesome Hell in a Cell match tonight. I had high hopes for this match and it completely delivered.
Bobby Lashley Retained The US Title
Bobby Lashley defended the United States Championship against Slapjack from RETRIBUTION tonight.
Match Recap: Lashley dominated early and connected with a massive Suplex. Slapjack hit Lashley with a Cannonball in the corner and went for the cover but Lashley was too close to the ropes. Slapjack connected with a DDT for a near fall. Lashley connected with a Spinebuster and applied the Hurt Lock for the submission victory. RETRIBUTION showed up and tried to attack Lashley but then retreated when the Hurt Business rushed the ring.
Opinion: I don\’t understand what the goal is with RETRIBUTION. Are they comedy act? There is nothing intimidating about them at this point. They are a just a nuisance and notwhere close to a strong heel faction.
Randy Orton Captured The WWE Championship
Drew McIntyre defended the WWE Championship against Randy ORton in the main event.
Match Recap: Randy Orton attacked Drew McIntyre during his entrance and beat him down. McIntyre battled back and rolled Orton into the ring as the referee locked the cage. The match then officially started as the two superstars traded punches in the middle of the ring.
McIntyre Clotheslined Orton out of the ring and drove him into steel cell. Drew grabbed a steel chair and hit Orton across the back. McIntyre then bashed the steel steps on Orton\’s face and tried to throw them at him but Randy escaped back into the ring.
Drew went for the Claymore but Orton got out of the way and hit McIntyre\’s knee with the chair. Orton shoved the steel chair against McIntyre\’s jaw and went for the cover but Drew kicked out at one. Orton then shoved McIntyre\’s face into the steel while taunting him.
McIntyre tried to battle back but Randy poked him in the eye. Orton slammed McIntyre\’s shoulder into the steel steps and brought him back into the ring. Randy connected with a Backbreaker and went for the cover but McIntyre kicked out at one. Drew hit Orton with a Clothesline and followed it up with an Overhead Belly to Belly throw.
Drew planted Orton with a Neckbreaker but Randy rolled out of the ring. Orton bounced McIntyre\’s head off the apron and then off the steel cage. McIntyre slammed Orton through a table as a \”this is awesome!\” chant was played. Back in the ring, Orton hit McIntyre with a Powerslam and went for the cover but once again Drew kicked out at one.
Randy Orton grabbed bolt cutters from under the ring and opened the cell door. McIntyre followed him out to the entrance ramp and hit him from behind. Orton slammed McIntyre\’s face into the cell and then Randy started climbing the cell. Randy stood on top of the cell and dared McIntyre to join him.
McIntyre climbed to the top of the cell and Orton grabbed a steel pipe. Drew tackled Orton but Randy caught him with shot to the midsection. Orton started climbing down the side of the cell and Drew followed him. Randy knocked McIntyre off the cell and through the announce table below.
McIntyre started spitting up blood and began crawling as Orton walked behind him. Orton rolled McIntyre back inside the ring and went for the RKO but McIntyre countered into a backslide pin for a two count. Drew then hit the Claymore but Orton rolled out of the ring.
Drew brought Orton back into the ring and geared up in the corner. McIntyre went for the Claymore but Orton got out of the way. Randy Orton then connected with the RKO for the pinfall victory. Randy Orton is the new WWE Champion.
Opinion: I thought this match dragged on a bit too long but I still enjoyed it. Overall, this was a very good PPV and all three Hell in a Cell matches delivered.
