WWE legend Eric Bischoff has seen enough of babyface Cody Rhodes. The WWE Hall of Famer says he is “over Cody as a babyface champion” and wants the promotion to take the title off Rhodes as the first step toward a heel turn.
Bischoff made the comments on a recent edition of the 83 Weeks podcast, where he explained that years of the same character direction have drained his interest in seeing more of the same.
I’m over Cody as a babyface champion,” Bischoff said. “It’s not that I don’t like it. It’s just that I’m kind of had my fill of it there. There’s just not a lot of desire for me to see what the next iteration of Cody as a baby face is going to bring because we’ve been seeing it a lot for the last couple years.
Bischoff was careful to note that his take was not a knock on ‘The American Nightmare’ personally. After several years of the same role, he argued, a major character change would simply be more compelling for the audience.
Bischoff Wants The Title Off Cody
The man who helped engineer some of wrestling’s most memorable heel turns, including the Hulk Hogan flip that gave birth to the nWo, believes pulling the championship is where any reset should begin.
I’d get that belt off of him somehow some way that would begin his journey into healedom because I think there’s a lot of story, a lot of great work,” Bischoff said.
He went on to praise Rhodes’ ability as a performer, suggesting his acting background gives him a tool set few others on the roster can match.
Cody’s acting, performing ability because he’s an actor. He is an actor. He could bring that heel character to life in a way that not too many people could because not very many people have his acting ability.
Bischoff closed by reiterating that a villainous Rhodes is the version he wants to see.
I want to see that. That gets me excited. Babyface Cody, sorry. Been there, done that a lot.
It is not the first time Bischoff has pushed WWE toward a babyface-to-heel pivot. He previously argued that the promotion should have booked Ronda Rousey as a heel rather than a top good guy. Cody Rhodes himself has also addressed constant heel speculation.
