WWE Files New SmackDown Trademark For Title Belts

WWE has filed a new trademark for SmackDown, and this one covers championship belts.

The filing was submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office on September 18. It falls under the class for metal goods, with the following description:

IC 006: Trophies made primarily of common metal for use as awards, namely, championship trophy belts.

The obvious use is merchandise. WWE sells replica title belts through its shop, and a trademark like this protects the SmackDown name on anything shaped like a championship.

What makes it notable is that SmackDown does not currently have a title with its name on it. The blue brand’s belts carry WWE or United States branding instead.

That was not always the case. The Raw Women’s Championship reverted to the WWE Women’s Championship name in 2023 as part of that year’s brand-swap, while the actual SmackDown Women’s Championship was renamed the Women’s World Championship. The SmackDown Tag Team Championship was rebranded as the WWE Tag Team Championship in 2024.

WWE has not said how it plans to use the new mark.
