Some inside WWE feel boxed in by Netflix. WrestleVotes reports on Fightful Select that people in WWE’s post-production department feel handcuffed at times by the restrictions Netflix has in place, particularly after the edits to Monday’s Raw.
WWE knew the parameters going in. The outlet was told some internally did not expect them to be this intense.
Putting the unedited footage out was not one person’s call. WrestleVotes reports the decision was unanimous internally, with some feeling the angle needed to be seen the way it was designed. Triple H posted the uncensored version of the Royce Keys and OTM attack on The Usos to his own account the day after the show.
One source raised a different question entirely. WrestleVotes was told someone wondered whether the angle should have been held back a week, until Raw was going out live rather than taped.
The August 31st episode was recorded on Friday at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, which gave Netflix a window to make changes before it aired. A source told False Finish that Netflix made the call, citing content restrictions in several of the countries where Raw airs.
The edits were extensive. Pixelated blocks covered the blood on Jey and Jimmy Uso, the picture distorted when Jimmy went through the back window of a car, and Solo Sikoa’s backstage attack got the same treatment later in the show. Jacob Fatu’s microphone had already been cut at the taping, and the broadcast version trimmed and bleeped the moment on top of that.
