WWE SummerSlam 2020 aired live from the ThunderDome at the Amway Center in Orlando. Braun Strowman defended the Universal Championship against The Fiend in the main event of the show. It was also announced that Keith Lee will be making his debut on RAW tomorrow night.

Bayley Retained The SmackDown Women’s Title
Bayley defended her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Asuka in the first match of the might. Sasha Banks was ringside for the match.
Match Recap: Asuka and Bayley locked up in the middle of the ring to start the action off. Asuka drove Bayley to the corner and unloaded a few punches to the face. Asuka followed it up with a Dropkick and then applied a submission hold. Bayley got her foot on the bottom rope to break the hold.
Asuka knocked Bayley out of the ring with a Hip Attack. Asuka followed her outside the ring and leaped off the steel steps and connected with a DDT. Back in the ring, Bayley hung up Asuka in the ropes and planted her with a Neckbreaker for a two count.
Bayley connected with a Suplex for another near fall before applying a Headlock in the middle of the ring. Bayley shouted at Michael Cole to say how many days she has been SmackDown Women’s Champion. Bayley connected with the Bayley to Belly but Asuka was able to kick out at two.
Asuka hit Bayley with a kick to the head and both superstars fell to the mat. Asuka leveled Bayley with a shoulder tackle and followed it up with another Hip Attack. Asuka hit a German Suplex and another Hip Attack for a near fall.
Bayley and Asuka traded punches on the ring apron. Asuka went for another Hip Attack but Bayley caught her and slammed her knees on the apron. Back in the ring, Bayley targeted Asuka’s knee and locked in a submission hold. Asuka escaped but Bayley caught her with an elbow to the face.
Asuka hit Bayley with Double Knees and went for the cover but Bayley kicked out at the last moment. Asuka went for a Dropkick off the top rope but Bayley countered into a Knee Bar in the center of the ring. Asuka battled through the pain and reached the bottom rope to break the hold.
Bayley connected with a Sunset Flip Powerbomb into the turnbuckle and then made her way to the top rope. Bayley went for an Elbow Drop but Asuka countered into an Arm Bar. Bayley forced a break and Asuka accidentally booted Banks in the face.
Sasha distracted Asuka and Bayley went for a roll-up. Asuka kicked out and then hit Sasha with a Hip Attack. Bayley capitalized with another roll-up for the pinfall victory. Bayley is still the SmackDown Women’s Champion.
After the match, Banks and Bayley beat Asuka down. Sasha Banks will defend the RAW Women’s Championship against Asuka later tonight.
Street Profits Retained The RAW Tag Team Titles
Street Profits defended the RAW Tag Team Championships against Angel Garza & Andrade. Zelina Vega was ringside and Kevin Owens joined commentary.
Match Recap: Montez and Andrade traded shots in the middle of the ring to start things off. Andrade hit a chop but Montez Ford responded with a Clothesline. Ford connected with a Hurricanrana and then Clotheslined Andrade out of the ring. Montez tried to flip onto Andrade and Garza but they caught him and planted him with a Powerbomb on the floor outside the ring.
Garza hit Montez with a Dropkick to the face and rolled him back into the ring. Garza Dropkicked Montez in the knee and Ford collapsed to the mat. Andrade tagged in and continued to isolate Ford in the ring.
Ford finally battled back and leaped across the ring to tag in Dawkins. Angelo hit Andrade with a Splash in the corner but Andrade responded with an elbow to the face. Dawkins shrugged it off and connected with a Spear. Ford tagged in and hit a Crossbody but Garza rolled through for a cover. Angel had his foot on the ropes for leverage and the referee caught him.
Zelina Vega hopped on the ring apron and Garza hit Ford with a Superkick. Montez fell backwards and knocked Vega to the floor outside the ring. Dawkins slammed Garza to the mat and Ford followed it up with the From the Heavens Frog Splash for the pinfall victory. Street Profits are still the RAW Tag Team Champions.
Mandy Rose Won & Sonya Deville Has To Leave WWE
Sonya Deville squared off against Mandy Rose tonight at SummerSlam. It was a No DQ match with the loser having to leave WWE.
Match Recap: Mandy took Sonya out of the ring and beat her down. Rose brought Deville to the entrance ramp and delivered a Suplex. Mandy set Sonya into the steel post and then launched her into the barricade. Rode hopped on the announce table and leveled her with a Flying Clothesline.
Rose set up a table outside the ring but Deville regrouped and hit Mandy with a steel chair to the midsection. Deville bounced Mandy’s face off the announce table several times and rolled her back into the ring. Sonya went for the cover but Mandy kicked out at two.
Deville followed it up with a sliding knee the chest for another near fall. Mandy went for a running knee but Sonya caught her with a Dragon Sleeper in the middle of the ring. Rose escaped and leveled Sonya with a knee to the face for a two count. Mandy set up Sonya on the table and hopped up on the ring apron.
Sonya rolled off the table and started crawling away. Mandy grabbed a steel chair and started throwing them at Sonya. Deville connected with a kick to the ribs and rolled Mandy back into the ring. Rose hit Deville with three running knees to the face and slammed Sonya to the canvas.
Mandy hit a fourth running knee to the face for the pinfall victory. Sonya Deville has to leave WWE. Otis came down to the ring and celebrated with Mandy following the match.
Seth Rollins Defeated Dominik
Seth Rollins faced Dominik Mysterio tonight in a Street Fight at SummerSlam. It was Dominik’s in-ring debut and Murphy and Rey Mysterio were ringside for the match. Dominik made Rey promise to not get involved tonight.
Match Recap: Rollins dominated the match early and took him down to the canvas. Dominik escaped to the corner and the two superstars circled each other. Seth told Dominik to put him in a Headlock and Rollins quickly shoved Dominik to the mat.
Dominik battled back with a couple Arm Drags as Rey cheered him on. Seth and Dominik locked up once again and Rollins sent him to the corner. Rollins stomped away on Dominik before planting him with a Body Slam.
Seth asked for Murphy to give him a kendo stick but wound up turning around into a Dropkick from Dominik. Dominik grabbed the kendo stick and chased Rollins outside the ring. Back in the ring, Rollins tripped Dominik up and booted the kendo stick to the apron.
Rollins beat Dominik down and mocked Rey ringside. Dominik tried to battle back but Rollins caught him with a Slingblade. Murphy slid a chair into the ring and Rollins set it up. Seth went for a Stomp off the chair but Dominik got out of the way and sent Rollins face first into the chair.
Seth went for the Buckle Bomb but Dominik countered into a Hurricanrana into the turnbuckle. Dominik followed it up with a beautiful DDT and went for the cover but Rollins kicked out at two. Dominik grabbed the kendo stick and hit Rollins several times until the kendo stick broke.
Dominik made his way to the top rope but Rollins tripped him up. Rollins planted Dominik with a Superplex and quickly followed it up with a Falcon Arrow for a two count. Seth grabbed the kendo sticks several times as Rey pleaded for Dominik to fight back.
Rollins asked Murphy for a table and he slid it into the ring. Seth set it up and brought Dominik to the corner. Rollins perched Dominik on the top turnbuckle and hit him with the kendo stick. Seth took some time to talk trash to Rey and it backfired. Dominik crotched Seth on the top rope and then hit a Russian Leg Sweep that sent both men through the table.
Dominik made his way to the top rope and connected with a Frog Splash for a two count. Dominik slid the chair into the ring and walked into a Superkick. Seth followed it up with a massive Powerbomb and regrouped with Murphy in the corner. Rollins then unloaded several more kendo stick shots to Dominik and dared Rey to get into the ring.
Murphy then gave Rollins handcuffs and Angie Mysterio came down to the entrance ramp. Murphy tried to shove Dominik’s eye into the steel steps. Rey broke it up and got beaten down for his troubles. Seth launched Dominik into the barricade and continued to beat Rey down.
Rollins then handcuffed Rey Mysterio to the ropes and got a couple kendo sticks. Seth looked at Angie and started walking towards her. Dominik attacked Rollins from behind and threw Murphy over the barricade. Dominik sent Rollins into the steel steps and planted Murphy with a Back Body Drop.
Dominik hit Seth with a 619 and then made his way to the top rope. Dominik went for a Frog Splash but Rollins got his knees up. Rollins mocked Dominik and told Rey to reach for his son. Seth connected with the Stomp on Dominik for the pinfall victory. Rollins then left the keys to the handcuffs with Dominik.
Opinion: Every match has been okay so far but I really enjoyed this one. The storyline was entertaining leading up to the match and Dominik put up a fight. I thought Dominik looked really impressive for his first match in WWE and obviously has an incredible future in front of him.
Asuka Captured The RAW Women’s Championship
Sasha Banks defended the RAW Women’s Championship against Asuka tonight. Bayley was ringside for the match.
Match Recap: Banks dominated early and went right after Asuka’s knee that was injured during her match against Bayley at the beginning of SummerSlam. Asuka battled and kicked Banks multiple times in the ribs. Asuka followed it up with a sliding forearm to the ribs that knocked Banks out of the ring.
Asuka followed her and Banks caught her with a boot the face. Back in the ring, Asuka caught Sasha in an Arm Bar. Banks broke free and made her way to the ring apron. Asuka went for a kick but Sasha ducked and Asuka booted the ring post. Banks then hit Asuka with an awesome Powerbomb off the apron.
Asuka was able to get back into the ring to break the count and then kicked out of two pin attempts by Banks. Sasha delivered a kick to the side of Asuka’s face for another near fall. Asuka slammed Banks to the mat and applied an Ankle Lock in the middle of the ring. Banks escaped and both superstars battled on the top rope. Asuka planted Banks with a DDT off the top rope and went for the cover but somehow Sasha was able to kick out at two.
Asuka made her way to the top rope and leveled Banks with a Dropkick for a near fall. Sasha connected with Double Knees out of nowhere for a two count. Sasha went for the Frog Splash but Asuka got out of the way and the RAW Women’s Champion crashed to the mat.
Sasha and Asuka charged at each other in the middle of the ring and Asuka applied the Asuka Lock. Sasha countered into the Bank Statement in the middle of the ring. Asuka countered into the Asuka Lock again in the center of the ring. Sasha escaped but Asuka caught her with a kick to the ribs.
Bayley hopped on the ring apron but Asuka knocked her to the floor with an elbow to the face. Sasha went for the Bank Statement but Asuka countered into the Asuka Lock for the submisison victory. Asuka is the new RAW Women’s Champion. Sasha Banks and Bayley will defend the Women’s Tag Team Championships at WWE Payback next Sunday.
Opinion: Asuka and Sasha Banks delivered an excellent match tonight. Sasha Banks once again dropped a title in her first defense but this is clearly leading to an eventual feud between Banks and Bayley.
Drew McIntyre Retained The WWE Championship
Drew McIntyre defended the WWE Championship against Randy Orton tonight at WWE SummerSlam.
Match Recap: Orton spend the first couple of minutes outside the ring avoiding McIntyre. Orton rolled out of the ring once again and Drew chased after him. Orton stomped on McIntyre as he got back into the ring and went for the RKO but Drew blocked it.
Randy caught McIntyre’s left leg and Drew rolled out of the ring to regroup. Back in the ring, Orton went for another RKO but McIntyre dodged it. Drew charged and Orton sent him flying into the ring post.
Orton slammed McIntyre on top of the announce desk and rolled into the ring to break the referee’s count. Randy slammed Drew on top of the table again and said that the title was coming home with him.
Randy planted McIntyre with a Suplex on the floor outside the ring. Back in the ring, Orton went for the cover but Drew kicked out at one. Orton stomped away on McIntyre’s leg and midsection. McIntyre finally battled back with a Spinebuster and both men fell to the mat.
Drew locked in the Figure Four in the middle of the ring. Randy pulled the referee to the mat and poked McIntyre in the eye to break the hold. McIntyre absolutey leveled Orton with a chop to the chest that echoed throught the ThunderDome.
McIntyre and Orton traded shots and Drew got the better of the exchange with a two Clotheslines. Drew followed it up with back to back Overhead Belly to Belly Suplexes. The WWE Champion made his way to the top rope and hit Randy with a Flying Clothesline.
McIntyre hopped to his feet and bounced Orton’s face on the turnbuckle. McIntyre brought Orton to the top rope and went for a Superplex but Randy tripped him up. Orton hung up McIntyre in the Tree of Woe but Drew escaped and sent Orton to the canvas for a near fall.
Drew connected with the Future Shock DDT and went for the cover but Orton was able to power out at two. McIntyre climbed back to the top rope but Orton got out of the way and caught Drew with a Powerslam for another two count.
Orton went for a DDT but McIntyre escaped and hit the Glasgow Kiss. McIntyre followed it up with a Clothesline that sent both superstars tumbling out of the ring. Both men got back into the ring and Orton caught Drew with the DDT while he was hung up in the ropes.
Randy geared up for the RKO but McIntyre couldn’t get to his feet. Orton backed to the corner and went for the Punt but McIntyre countered with a Powerbomb. McIntyre geared up for the Claymore as Orton slowly got up. Orton dodged the Claymore and went for the RKO but McIntyre countered into a backslide for the pinfall victory.
Opinion: I enjoyed this match but wasn’t a fan of the finish. I would have liked McIntyre to pick up a more dominant win after all Randy Orton has done leading up to SummerSlam. The ending just felt very underwhelming for the epic build we have seen on recent episodes of RAW. However, everything else about the match was very well done.
The Fiend Won The Universal Championship, Roman Reigns Returned
Braun Strowman defended the Universal Championship against The Fiend in the main event of this year’s SummerSlam in a Falls Count Anywhere match.
Match Recap: Strowman drove The Fiend to the corner and The Fiend responded by laughing in the Universal Champion’s face. The Fiend grabbed a tool box and struck Strowman in the midsection and then over the back with it.
Strowman quickly battled back and hit a shoulder tackle that sent The Fiend through the barricade. The Fiend popped right up and Strowman hit him with a Chokeslam on the announce table.
Braun grabbed the steel steps and bashed The Fiend in the face. Back in the ring, Strowman hit a Splash and the Running Powerslam for a near fall. Strowman brought The Fiend up the entrance ramp and launched him into the screen.
The Fiend battled back and slammed Strowman into a wall backstage. The Fiend connected with Sister Abigail and went for the cover but Braun kicked out at two. The Fiend brought Strowman back to the entrance ramp and sent him flying into the screen.
The Fiend went for the Mandible Claw but Strowman was able to escape and clubbed Wyatt across his chest for a two count. The action returned to the ring and Strowman hit another Running Powerslam for a near fall.
Strowman unloaded several punches to The Fiend’s face before grabbing a box cutter from the toolbox. Braun cut up the mat to expose the wood under it. The Fiend got up and planted Strowman with a Uranage on the wood. The Fiend followed it up with two Sister Abigails on the exposed wood for the victory.
After the match, Roman Reigns showed up and leveled The Fiend with a Spear. Reigns hit Strowman with a Spear outside the ring and shouted that Braun isn’t a monster unless he is here. Roman grabbed a steel chair and beat the hell out of Strowman with it. Reigns got back into the ring and hit The Fiend with another Spear. Roman grabbed the Universal Championship and said that The Fiend cannot handle the responsibility. Reigns raised the title over The Fiend to close the show.
Opinion: This match didn’t do much for me but it was good to see Roman Reigns back in WWE. I never thought I’d say that but I was glad to see him back. Overall, SummerSlam 2020 was a very good show. The ThunderDome remains a massive improvement to the Performance Center and brought some needed life into this show.
