Zilla Fatu’s arrival in WWE has already created a debate that goes far beyond his family name.
During the August 18 episode of NXT, Fatu officially put pen to paper and became the brand’s newest Superstar. Robert Stone introduced him to the crowd, which responded with “Umaga” chants, while Fatu acknowledged his Samoan heritage and emphasized that he wanted his own abilities to define him.
Then WWE immediately put that idea to the test.
Stone revealed that Fatu’s contract came with a guaranteed NXT Championship opportunity in his first match. That means the previously scheduled Triple Threat at Heatwave will now become a Fatal 4-Way, with Fatu joining Tony D’Angelo, Grayson Waller and Cruz Montana.
That decision quickly caught the attention of fans online.
One viewer argued that Fatu’s Bloodline connection was already influencing his push, calling it:
Another fan similarly accused WWE of giving another member of the Anoa’i family a major opportunity because of his connections.
One particularly harsh reaction questioned why Fatu should receive such a major opportunity before even wrestling a WWE match.
But the criticism wasn’t only about the title opportunity itself. Another fan focused on the timing.
Fatu had just spoken about wanting to prove he wasn’t a “nepo baby.” Moments later, WWE revealed that his first match would be for the NXT Championship.
And that’s where the irony comes in.
Fatu hasn’t wrestled his first WWE match yet, but he’s already guaranteed a shot at becoming NXT Champion. Whether he proves the doubters wrong will now be determined inside the ring, but WWE has certainly given him a huge opportunity right out of the gate.
