New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Lance Archer recently claimed his first major singles championship. Archer wrestled against Juice Robinson for the vacant IWGP United States Championship, eventually defeating Robinson to become the new champion. Taking to Twitter, Archer reflected on his big win and uploaded a photo of himself holding the title:
“19+ yrs in wrestling. 3 major companies. (TNA,WWE,NJPW) 8+ yrs with @njpw1972 and on Oct 14th 2019 I was put in a unique position when an opportunity arose and won my first major singles title and became the 7th IWGP United States Champion! NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAM! KMSSL”
The Suzuki-gun member stepped in at the last minute to compete for the IWGP United States Championship this past Monday at NJPW’s King of Pro Wrestling event. He replaced former champion, Jon Moxley. Moxley was stripped of the title after he was unable to attend the event due to Typhoon Hagibis. Moxley wasn’t the only member of the NJPW roster unable to travel due to unsafe conditions. Archer’s Suzuki-gun stablemate, Zack Sabre Jr., was also unable to make the show.
The Typhoon has also forced NJPW to cancel an upcoming Road To Power Struggle event that was due to take place on October 18th in Nagano.
