The Rock is running it back with the third installment of the movie franchise

“Jumanji” fans can expect to jump back into the game this holiday season, as Sony has confirmed that “Jumanji 3” is slated for release on December 11, 2026. This pre-Christmas slot has been consistent for Sony’s entire “Jumanji” franchise.

Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan are all in talks to reprise their roles, with director Jake Kasdan also expected to return to helm the project.

The original “Jumanji” film, released in 1995 and starring Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst, grossed $262.8 million worldwide. The franchise’s central plot revolves around four teenagers who are pulled into a magical video game, where they must work together to finish the game and escape.

The 2017 remake of “Jumanji” proved incredibly popular, earning $962 million worldwide, including $404 million in the U.S. Its 2019 sequel, “Jumanji: The Next Level,” followed suit, amassing $801 million globally, with $320 million from U.S. audiences.

In addition to “Jumanji 3,” Dwayne Johnson will star in the upcoming action-comedy “Red One,” directed by Kasdan. The film, also featuring Chris Evans, will premiere exclusively in theaters on November 15, 2024, before streaming on Amazon Prime. Other cast members include J.K. Simmons, Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, and Wesley Kimmel.
