Arn Anderson Shares Wonderful Brodie Lee Story from WWE

0

Former WWE Agent and AEW on-screen Coach Arn Anderson recently appeared on the Talk Is Jericho podcast.

This week’s episode of Talk Is Jericho is dedicated to the life of Brodie Lee; with tributes being paid to the Dark Order leader across the podcast from many different names in AEW.

Arn Anderson himself would share a story about the family man that Jon Huber was before his untimely passing. “Many nights he would come out of the building after having either their dark match like on the last day of a loop or something” Arn would begin.

Arn Anderson on Brodie Lee

“I’d be walking across the parking lot and some nights I would be heading to SmackDown and if he was on RAW? He [Brodie] would be heading home and I would go: ‘you got an early flight in the morning?’ He would go, ‘I’m driving.’ I’d go ‘how far is that?’ ‘Ah it’s about 490 [miles]’ he’d say.”

“I said ‘Jesus Christ Brodie! The flight that you got in the morning? You’ll probably get home about the same time'” Arn would continue. “He said ‘if I get the jump on it right now, I can have breakfast with the family.’ So he was going to drive 500 miles to get there two hours earlier, to have breakfast with his family. That’s who he was.”

Arn Anderson would finish by again paying tribute to the former Luke Harper. “That’s who he was, that’s what he’ll always be to me. He wasn’t being braggadocious about it or he didn’t have his chest out. He’d just rather sit in the car, all night and be home two hours early to get to be with his family.”

Paul Heyman Promises Big Things For Parker Boudreaux

0

It appears Paul Heyman has his sights on the 6ft 5inch 265 lbs offensive guard from the University of Central Florida, Parker Boudreaux. The college junior has often been compared to Heyman’s former client, Brock Lesnar.

Paul Heyman responded to a Tweet of Boudreaux’s online, noting that 2021 is going to be a big year for the young prospect. In true Paul Heyman fashion, he noted that this is not a prediction, but rather a spoiler.

AEW Also Interested In Parker Boudreaux

AEW’s Jim Ross has also got his eyes on Parker Boudreaux it appears. Back in April, Jim Ross responded to one of his Tweets as well.

Ross also said in a separate Tweet that Boudreaux has been on his radar for a couple of years now.

In a 2015 interview with Bleacher Report, Boudreaux said he gets compared to Brock Lesnar frequently.

“Brock Lesnar. I probably get that one every day,” Boudreaux said. “I’ll get [Ivan] Drago from Rocky. I’ll get [Brian] Bosworth. Everybody has something. It’s pretty funny.”

Boudreaux is living near the Orlando area at the moment, near where both AEW and WWE have been operating during the pandemic. An interview with Parker Boudreaux can be viewed in the player below:

Jim Ross Reveals Promise He Made To Brodie Lee Jr

0

AEW Commentator and WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross recently discussed the passing of Brodie Lee on his Grilling Jr podcast.

Following on from what was of course a huge loss for pro wrestling, JR would discuss how the influence of his son Brodie Lee Jr was felt backstage. Jim Ross would say how the son of the Dark Order leader was beloved by those in the AEW locker room.

The podcast was filmed before the Brodie Lee memorial episode of AEW Dynamite. On the TNT programme Brodie Lee Jr would be given the TNT Championship and crowned as the belt’s lifetime Champion.

Jim Ross on Brodie Lee Jr

“Brodie Jr? He’s become quite the beloved figure back in the locker room area” Jim Ross would state. “Everybody loves the little fart! He’s just personable as hell.”

“He looks a lot like his dad” JR would continue. “His eyes and his dad’s eyes? His eyes and his dad’s eyes are the same. He’s a cute little kid. I was with him on Sunday at the Jags game, we hugged and talked and I made him a deal.”

Jim Ross would then reveal the promise that he made to Brodie Lee Jr, with the son of Jon Huber hoping to become a professional wrestler himself down the line. “When he wrestles for his first World Title? I promised that I would announce that match” JR would reveal.

“That’s just me, and you know I wanted to make him happy. And he thought that was the coolest deal. So apparently his dad had been saying nice things about me and my work or whatever. And the little boy remembered it and thought that was pretty cool.”

Do you think that we’ll see Brodie Lee Jr in AEW one day? Are you enjoying Jim Ross’ work in AEW? Let us know in the comments

Mick Foley Announces He Tested Positive For Covid-19

0

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley has tested positive for Covid-19 after holding a virtual autograph signing on December 12th.

Foley posted a message on social media to discuss his situation. Foley says there were only two people in the room with him for the signing. They both wore masks, but he took his off so he could better interact with fans. One of the two people in the room with him for the signing later tested positive for the virus.

As of January 1st, he has been isolated in a hotel room for 18 days. He has experienced various symptoms, including body aches, loss of smell and fatigue. However, the worst part for him was being away from his family for Christmas and New Year’s.

Mick Foley has been outspoken on social media about the need for people to wear masks and protect others. He understands the irony that he got Covid-19 by taking his mask off. He said, “I did my best” but quickly corrected himself by adding, “Well, I could have done better.”

Foley has cut back on his schedule dramatically this year, but is still working remotely. He thought that would keep him safe, but unfortunately one ‘exception’ was all it took to be exposed.

SEScoops wishes Mick Foley a full and speedy recovery.

Update On Impact Contracts: Sami Callihan, Ethan Page & More

0

We have updates on a few Impact Wrestling contracts that were set to expire at the end of 2020.

Former Impact World Champion, Sami Callihan, has announced that he has re-signed with the promotion. He noted on Twitter yesterday that he’s come to terms on a 2-year deal with the promotion. Callihan originally singed with Impact in late 2017.

Callihan wrote, “Today marks when I WOULD have been a FREE AGENT. I just RE-SIGNED with @IMPACTWRESTLING, 2 years for BIG money. I got other offers…but I don’t give a damn. This is MY company. I made this company. I will be champion again in 2021. #TheDRAW.”

Ethan Page Update

In other Impact news, Ethan Page has finished up with the company. It had previously been reported that he was not expected to re-sign.

It was reported recently in the Wrestling Observer that he has left the promotion. His tag-team partner, Josh Alexander is still with the company, however, and has several months left in his contract. Dave Meltzer wrote, “Ethan Page, who is no longer with the company as he decided not to sign a new deal, which breaks up The North as a team since Josh Alexander has months left, has pulled all of his merchandise effective now.”

As for where Page is headed, pulling merchandise is often a sign someone is going to WWE. Page is the kind of guy who would throw out a red herring like that, though.

Page has said in interviews that the North will not be breaking up, however.

“If you think for one F’N second that we’re going to let Impact dictate whether we break up, or we don’t, or whatever you’re out of your damn mind,” said Page.

“I’m telling you guys. Everyone watched Final Resolution, and everyone saw my mental breakdown, whatever. It doesn’t matter. I’m telling you guys that no matter which way this goes The North are not splitting.”

Update On Erick Redbeard’s AEW Status

0

This week on AEW’s Tribute to the Life of Brodie Lee, Erick Redbeard, the former Erick Rowan in WWE, made a surprise appearance. Rowan and Brodie Lee, known as Luke Harper in WWE, are former NXT and Smackdown tag-team champions.

According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Erick Redbeard’s performance on Dynamite this week was scheduled to be just a one-off deal. Things can change, however, and Redbeard could still end up in AEW more regularly.

“Regarding Erick Rowan, his deal was just to make a special appearance on the Brodie Lee tribute show as a surprise. Obviously anything can change in the future,” wrote Dave Meltzer.

Erick Redbeard/Erick Rowan and Brodie Lee/Luke Harper

Real name Joseph Ruud, Redbeard began wrestling in 2003. In 2007, he moved to Japan to live and work in the Pro Wrestling NOAH dojo. He would later return to the United States and sign with WWE in 2011.

In late 2012, he was placed in the Wyatt Family in NXT along with Luke Harper and Bray Wyatt. They made their television debut in early 2013. They would debut on the main roster later that year. Following the breakup of the Wyatt Family, Harper and Rowen would be re-named the Bludgeon Brothers. They won the Smackdown titles before injuries sidelined the team.

Universal Champion Roman Reigns kicked off the show and came to the ring with Paul Heyman and Jey Uso. Reigns said he was the face of WWE and wished everyone a Happy New Year with a grin on his face. Reigns stated 2020 has been a tough year but when you are the head of the table, you make it work. Roman added that he wears a gold glove because everything he touches turns into greatness.

Reigns said Heyman was discarded and he saved him. Roman claimed that Heyman was the most honest man that he has ever done business with. Reigns stated Jey Uso is a prime example of what he can do and that this has been the best year of Jey’s career because he acknowledged him as his Tribal Chief.

Roman told Jey that he has always been main event Uso and he has knocked it out of the park every single time. Kevin Owens interrupted and made his way to the entrance ramp. Roman said nobody wants to hear from Owens and referred to him as a roach that will not die. Reigns added that he was generous enough to give Kevin a big payday but he is done with him now.

Reigns claimed that nobody cares about Owens and this is Jey’s time. Owens stated that Reigns and his family have failed because he is still standing. Kevin told Reigns that he should be embarrassed because he relied on Jey to defeat him and that the Big Dog has been replaced by a giant bitch. Owens challenged Jey Uso to a match tonight and added that when he is done with Jey, Reigns’ family will have nothing to celebrate.

Big E Will Defend The IC Title Against Apollo Crews Next Week

Big E squared off against King Corbin in the first match of the night. Former Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn joined commentary for the match. Wesley Blake and Steve Cutler were in Corbin’s corner.

Corbin controlled the match early as Zayn said he hired a documentary team to investigate last week’s Lumberjack match in which he lost the IC Title. King Corbin connected with an elbow to the face and went for the cover but Big E kicked out at two.

King Corbin kneed Big E in the face and went for a Clothesline but Big E countered into the Big Ending. Big E went for the cover but Sami Zayn attacked Big E to end the match in a DQ. Cutler and Blake joined in on the attack and they all stomped Big E to the canvas. Apollo Crews rushed the ring and sent Cutler & Blake out of the ring. Crews then threw Zayn on top of them as SmackDown went to a commercial break.

When SmackDown returned, it was a tag match with Crews and Corbin battling in the ring. Zayn tagged himself in and beat Apollo down in the corner. Corbin tagged in and sent Crews into the turnbuckle. Corbin followed it up with a Clothesline and sent Apollo out of the ring.

Zayn tagged in and Crews planted him with a Powerslam. Big E and Corbin tagged in and Big E connected with three Belly to Belly Suplexes. Corbin battled back and hit Deep Six for a near fall. Zayn started arguing with Cutler & Blake and Corbin got distracted by it.

Sami tagged in and went for the Helluva Kick but Crews got out of the way. Zayn almost hit Corbin and the two started arguing. Corbin, Cutler, and Blake left the ring and left Sami alone in the ring. Crews hit Zayn with a Powerbomb for the pinfall victory. Later on the show, Big E and Crews were interviewed backstage. Big E issued an Open Challenge next week for the IC Title and Crews immediately accepted. Big E made several references to Brodie Lee and his family during the backstage promo.

Riott Squad def. Tamina & Natalya

Natalya & Tamina faced the Riott Squad tonight on SmackDown. Billie Kay was ringside for the match. Tamina dominated early and leveled Ruby Riott with a Clothesline. Liv tagged in and knocked Natalya off the ring apron. Liv hit Tamina with a series of kicks before Riott tagged back in.

Ruby planted Tamina with a Russian Leg Sweep as Billie Kay kept switching teams she was rooting for. Tamina booted Ruby out of the ring but Liv rolled her up for the victory. After the match, Billie Kay celebrated as if it was her advice that helped the Riott Squad win.

Carmella Pinned Sasha Banks

Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair faced Bayley and Carmella tonight on SmackDown. Belair hit Bayley with a Dropkick to start off the action. When SmackDown returned from a break, Bayley connected with a slam and went for the cover but Bianca kicked out at two.

Bayley stretched out Belair’s arm around the middle rope and then hit her with a shot to the shoulder. Carmella tagged in and stomped Bianca down in the corner of the ring. Carmella went for the cover but Bianca kicked out at two. Belair rolled up Carmella for a two count and Carmella began taunting Bianca.

Carmella locked in an Armbar but Belair escaped and tagged in SmackDown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks. Sasha kneed Carmella in the face and bounced her head off the turnbuckle. Banks followed it up with Double Knees and then a running knee to the face for a near fall.

Belair launched Bayley out of the ring and sent her into the ring post. Belair planted Bayley with a Suplex on the floor outside the ring. Carmella caught Sasha with a Superkick to the face and went for the Bronco Buster but Sasha countered into the Bank Statement.

Carmella’s assistant Reginald dragged her out of the ring and then got into the ring with Banks. Sasha charged at Reginald but he flipped off the apron. Reginald got back on the apron and Banks smacked him in the face. Carmella capitalized on the distraction and hit the Mella Buster (Facebuster) on Banks for the pinfall victory.

Roode & Ziggler Attacked The Street Profits

SmackDown Tag Team Champions Street Profits for a New Year’s Day celebration. Dawkins and Ford danced around the ring before boasting about winning the tag titles and two Slammy Awards in 2020. Dawkins said that 2021 is going to be even better and then revealed a drumkit.

Angelo played the drums as Montez Ford shouted that it was time for their 2021 predictions. Ford said that not everyone has the skills to become fashion designers but their new “I was Intercontinental Champion” shirt in reference to Sami Zayn will become the biggest seller of the year.

Street Profits then joked that in 2021 Dolph Ziggler will get the nickname he deserves, “the Heartache Kid”. Roode and Ziggler then attacked Street Profits from behind and beat them down. Roode hit Dawkins with a steel chair and threw him over the barricade. Roode then slammed Ford’s leg into the ring post and then Dolph bashed his leg with the chair. Robert hit Ford a couple more times with the chair to end the segment.

Roode and Ziggler were interviewed backstage by Kayla Braxton. They said it is always fun and games with the Street Profits and joked that they aren’t having fun now. Dolph and Roode demanded a rematch for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships and said that they will not stop until they get what they want.

Daniel Bryan & Otis def. Cesaro & Nakamura

Daniel Bryan and Otis faced Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura on this week’s SmackDown. Chad Gable was ringside for the match. Cesaro hit Bryan with a shoulder tackle but Bryan quickly battled back and sent Cesaro flying across the ring. Nakamura tagged in and applied a Headlock on Bryan in the center of the ring.

Bryan escaped and went for a Suicide Dive but Cesaro caught him and connected with a slam as SmackDown went to a break. When SmackDown returned, Cesaro hit Bryan with an Elbow Drop for a near all. Shinsuke tagged in and hit Daniel with a knee to the face for another two count.

Bryan threw Nakamura out of the ring and started crawling towards the corner. Otis finally tagged in and leveled Cesaro with a couple shoulder tackles. Otis followed it up with a Clothesline and then delivered a Splash. Otis hit the Caterpillar Elbow and went for the cover but Nakamura broke it up at two.

Otis climbed to the middle rope and went for a Splash but Cesaro out of the way. Shinsuke tagged in and went for the Kinshasa but Otis got out of the way. Bryan tagged in and Shinsuke greeted him with a boot to the face. Daniel hit Cesaro with the Running Knee and then applied the Yes Lock on Nakamura for the submission victory.

Roman Reigns Attacked Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens faced Jey Uso in this week’s main event. Owens dominated the match early and beat Jey down in the corner of the ring. Owens brought Jey to the outside and leveled him with a Clothesline. Back in the ring, Owens connected with a Senton and went for the cover but Jey was able to kick out at two.

Owens focused his attack on Jey’s leg and slammed it into the ring apron a few times. Kevin launched Jey over the announce table as SmackDown went to a commercial break. When SmackDown returned, Owens and Jey were battling on the turnbuckle. Owens went for a Superplex but Jey blocked it and shoved Kevin to the canvas. Jey went for the Frog Splash but Owens got out of the way. Owens then hit Jey with the Stunner for the pinfall victory.

After the match, Owens hit Jey with another Stunner and dared Reigns to come down to the ring. Owens ripped off Graves’ headset and said “Roman, come take care of your family you bitch”. Kevin handcuffed Jey to the top rope and hit him with a Superkick to the face.

Kevin Owens continued to stomp on Jey’s injured leg and shouted “where are you?” but Reigns didn’t come down to the ring. Owens dragged Jey up the entrance ramp and hit him with another Superkick. Owens climbed up to a platform in the ThunderDome and was about to put Jey through a table but Roman finally showed up. Reigns attacked Owens from behind and Jey joined in.

Jey and Roman unloaded a bunch of chair shots to Owens as “you suck!” chants were piped in. Owens tried to battle back but Reigns bashed his face onto the ThunderDome screens several times. Roman then threw Owens through the table below to end the show.

Opinion: This was one of the weaker episodes of SmackDown in some time but was still an entertaining show. I’m all for the rivalry between Owens and Reigns continuing because it has been done so well up until this point.

Darren Young Reveals Trick To Make Money In WWE

0

Former WWE star Darren Young recently had an interview with WrestlingInc where he talked about things like moving on from his WWE career and more.

During the interview, the former Nexus member praised his former tag team partner Titus O’Neil for being a hustler who always used to find something to do in the company.

He then revealed a trick to making money in WWE explaining that appearing on WWE’s reality show Total Divas was a guarantee to get a check even when you were not doing anything on Raw or SmackDown:

“With WWE and their reality show, Total Divas, anytime the cameras are around, I get right on there because for me, not being a part of the show; you’re going to get a check in the mail because you’re on their show. They pay you. Any time I see Nattie (Natalya) Neidhart, I go, ‘Hey girl, how you doing? How’s everything going?’

And Nattie knows how to turn it on. ‘Oh my God, I’m having so much problems with this Diva, that Diva,’ and I’m just listening, listening.” said Darren Young, “So I know when the cameras are on, a check is in the mail for me. After you’re done and the cameras turn away from you, they’re writing down who was involved in each scene.”

It was pointed out that Titus is also seen on Total Divas very often and Young revealed that he actually learned this tactic from his former tag team partner saying “that’s who I learned it from.”

Apart from this, Darren Young also talked about being part of Theality TV and more. You can check out the full interview of the former WWE star here.

Lana Posts Photos Wearing A Sling & Leg Brace: “Piss Off 2020”

0

WWE Superstar Lana finished off 2020 banged up and looking ahead to a better year. She posted two photos of herself on Instagram wearing a sling on her right arm and a brace / boot on her right leg. She wished everyone a Happy New Year, but first declared, “Piss off 2020.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/CJfW5wksSzg

Lana’s Rocky End to 2020

Lana was originally expected to team with the Raw women’s champion Asuka at the TLC PPV and challenge the then women’s tag team champions Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler.

However, she was pulled from the show after an attack from Baszler and Jax and the company had announced that she has suffered injuries that will keep her out of action for a few weeks.

It was reported at the time that the angle was set up for the return of Charlotte Flair who ended up making a surprise comeback during the PPV.

Though now these photos posted by Lana on the social site have started speculations about the female star potentially being injured in real life.

There is no word yet on where the Raw star might have suffered the injuries or how long she could stay out of action if they are real but we’ll keep you posted on her status.

Ric Flair On Who Is The Greatest Worker In The History Of Wrestling

0

‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair recently spoke to WWE UK to promote the upcoming Raw Legends Night. During the interview, Flair was asked who he considers to be the greatest worker in the history of the wrestling business and the 16 time world champion took the name of Shawn Michaels:

“It’s not arguable anymore; Shawn is the greatest worker in the history of our business. I think everybody would give that to him. He carried me in my farewell retirement match, no matter how many people want to think I was holding up my end of it, I was trying to get through it.”

Talking about his WWE retirement match at WrestleMania XXIV some more, Ric Flair said that he did not have the self-confidence to rise to the occasion at the time but Shawn made it look like he did:

“At that point in my career I did not have the self-confidence that I needed to have to rise to the occasion and he made it look like I did. I’ve looked back and actually had time the past couple of years to watch some of Shawn’s matches that he had while I was at WCW and Shawn just is a class act.”

The former world champion also praised Ricky Steamboat during the interview and he said that he would put Shawn and Steamboat in a class of their own.

WWE will be celebrating Legends Night on the first Raw of 2021 on January 4 and the show will feature the return of many big names such as Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Mickie James and more.

The Rock Gifts Truck To Long Time WWE Employee (Video)

0

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has been known for surprising important people in his life with cars and the great one has done it once again.

This time the former world champion has gifted a new Ford F-150 pickup truck to longtime WWE employee Harvey Wippleman for helping the Hollywood star when he was younger.

The Rock recently made a post on his Instagram and in the caption, he explained how Wippleman, real name Bruno Lauer helped him by providing him a place to live after the former champion was evicted off the island of Hawaii.

The post accompanied a video in which the two told a story of how Harvey bought The Rock his first car for $40 when he was younger and the people’s champion thanked him for his gesture with a brand new car:

https://www.instagram.com/tv/CJeeGoNFYkU

Harvey Wippleman was originally hired by WWE as a manager back in 1991. He transitioned to a backstage role in the company towards the end of the 90s.

Since then, the former WWE manager has made sporadic on-screen appearances for the company while also working behind the scenes as a road agent. His most recent on-screen appearance for the promotion came during the Raw 25 Years celebration episode in January 2018.

Speculation On Seth Rollins’ Return Being Delayed

0

WWE had originally announced that Seth Rollins will be returning to WWE programming on this week’s episode of SmackDown, though now it appears that his comeback might have been delayed.

The company first advertised the return of The Architect for this Friday during the Blue Brand’s Christmas special episode last week.

However, there was no mention of Rollins on the SmackDown preview video that aired on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, which started some speculations.

The fact that the company has not included any mention of the former Shield member on the written preview for SmackDown and the original tweet announcing his return has also been deleted is suggesting that his return might have been delayed.

Seth Rollins was originally written off TV after the Survivor Series PPV in late November so he could take some time off to be with his fiancé Becky Lynch while she gave birth to their first child together.

At the time it was reported that the former Universal Champion will not stay away from action for very long and he will return to WWE programming after a few weeks of absence.

While the reason for Rollins’ return being delayed in not known yet, it’s still likely that he will make his comeback in next few weeks, before the Royal Rumble PPV.

The video below includes messages from Xavier Woods, Keith Lee, Mustafa Ali, John Morrison, Kofi Kingston and several others.

Amanda Huber, widow of late Brodie Lee, posted a message on Instagram reflecting on Wednesday night’s tribute show. She said her words and the photos could not do it justice, but the entire show was perfect, from top to bottom.

The little Easter eggs, the tributes, the matches, and the moments.” I’m not sure what it looked like on tv, and I’m sure sometime soon, I’ll see for myself. But I can tell you in person, the love in that building last night was real. It radiated all night long. You could feel it in the air. It was devastating and beautiful and a testament to one of the best people to walk this earth.”

Huber said that AEW is the most amazing community and called Tony Khan the kindest and most genuine person she’s ever met. “He loved my husband. He loves wrestling. He loves AEW. And he loves my family. Real, authentic love.”

She said she’s been around wrestling for a long time. She’s seen the absolute worst aspects of the business. AEW’s tribute show was heartfelt and genuine.

“Nobody was just ‘putting on a show.’ It was real and raw emotion and just fucking beautiful.”

Konnan Comments On Heat Between Him and Owen Hart

0

Konnan was recently asked about wrestling in Canada for Stampede Wrestling early in his career on an episode of his Keepin it 100 podcast. Konnan revealed on the show that he and Owen Hart didn’t get along very well while he was there.

“Owen when I went to Calgary, he wasn’t the friendliest guy with me,” Konnan said on the show. “Because he actually told everybody in the dressing room not to do my lucha libre moves. I had to go to Stu and go ‘bro, that’s all I know how to do’ because I wasn’t trained in American wrestling.”

“I do remember that he would drive this big f***ing van with all the wrestlers in the back. He would ask people if they would help him drive and everybody would say no, so to piss us off, he would play country music like the whole f***ing trip.”

“I also remember that he and his brother (Bruce Hart), which got a lot of heat in the dressing room, were the only guys that could sell merch,” Konnan continued.

Konnan continued to talk about being scouted by Keith Hart while in Hawaii and more of his time in Canada.

A clip from the show featuring Konnan talking about Owen Hart can be viewed below:

Eric Bischoff On What Vince Russo Doesn’t Understand About The TV Business

0

Eric Bischoff recently spent some time talking about Vince Russo on an episode of his 83 Weeks podcast. Bischoff and Russo worked together in both WCW and TNA but Bischoff feels that Russo didn’t understand much about the television business.

“You could have given Vince Russo 6 years and it wouldn’t have mattered,” Bischoff said on the show. “Look, you gotta have an idea, you gotta understand the wrestling audience. You can’t go out and live your pre-pubescent fantasies inside of a wrestling ring and think the mass audience is going to enjoy it.”

“Television is about ratings, you touched on it,” Bischoff continued. “If you don’t have ratings, you are not selling advertising. You can have ratings and still not be able to sell advertising. Advertising and ratings go hand-in-hand. If you are not delivering at least a reasonable audience that includes the demographic that advertisers are interested in, they are not going to buy your show, they are not going to spend money inside of your show.”

Bischoff continued to talk about how what Vince Russo was doing was not appealing to kids, families, and people who are not already big wrestling fans.

“Wrestling is a generational type of product,” he continued.

“If you look at Attitude Era wrestling and even some of the stuff we did on Nitro, that was not necessarily the type of content that a lot of families would feel comfortable with their kids watching. It was a little too adult.”

Bischoff continued to say that appealing to families gives the wrestling industry long-term success since it is passed down from generation to generation.

“A guy like Vince Russo would have blown his pre-pubescent wad if someone would have given him 6 months or a year and that would have been it. There would have been no more wrestling company.”

Jim Ross On What Sting Will Be Doing In AEW

0

The big question ever since Sting joined AEW has been what the icon will be doing in the promotion and Jim Ross suggests that he won’t be having just a single role in the company.

The legendary commentator returned for his Grilling JR podcast once again where he talked about things like Tony Schiavone’s different outfits and more.

Talking about Sting’s arrival in the promotion, Ross revealed that it was Tony Khan who reached out to the former WCW star and claimed that he is going to have a variety of roles in the company:

“What’s really going on is Tony Khan reached out, hired Sting to a multiyear deal. He’s going to have a variety of roles, I don’t know what they are exactly but they will be in a creative capacity where he’s a character on television.

There’s a lot of ways to be a character on T.V.” said Jim Ross, “that’s been accepted by the audience nowadays that doesn’t include wrestling a match every week.”

The AEW star continued by claiming that he doesn’t think anyone should wrestle every week calling it a ‘kiss of death’ for the wrestler.

The former WWE star explained that wrestling every week over exposes a talent to the audience and you shouldn’t do it if you want to keep your talent fresh.
