Finn Balor On Possibly Bringing Back The Light-Up Jacket

0

Finn Balor declared that the Prince is back when he appeared on WWE Backstage after his heel turn and since then people have been wondering if he will also bring back his old entrance where he used to wear a light-up jacket.

During the recent episode of the State of Combat podcast, the former Universal Champion discussed his heel turn in detail and explained the reasoning behind it.

When asked about possibly bringing the light-up jacket back, Balor revealed that he asked NJPW officials to find it but they couldn’t and claimed that he is going to create something new and different instead of going back:

“I don’t want to create one. I do not care about the light-up jacket. I am going to create something different and something new, which is what I had done for the past 19 years. I am not going to go back. I am going to go forward.”

The former NXT Champion also talked about how people compare his jacket look to the one of Chris Jericho and gave his thoughts on the debate on who came up with the light-up look first.

Finn revealed that his own look was inspired by the movie Tron and he went on to claim that he had never seen Chris’ jacket before coming up with it for himself.

Sami Callihan On RVD Mentioning WWE And AEW Stars In Recent Promo

0

Impact Wrestling star RVD made some headlines recently when he cut a promo during Impact Wrestling’s AXS TV debut saying that there would be no Daniel Bryan, Kenny Omega or Young Bucks if it wasn’t for him.

During a recent interview with WrestlingInc, the current Impact World Champion Sami Callihan talked about a number of things and he also gave his thoughts on RVD’s promo.

Callihan claimed that while people perceive the former WWE Star to be a quiet dude that smokes himself out all day long, the RVD we saw in the promo is the real RVD:

“That’s the real RVD. People think RVD is a quiet dude that smokes himself out all day long. But RVD has accomplished everything he’s wanted to accomplish in this business. He’s probably bored with life but now he’s living his best life because he pretty much told everyone to kiss his ass,”

The Impact Champion was then asked if the company will lean towards calling out their opponents more in the future and he said that Impact isn’t afraid to do that.

He went on to explain that his promotion is not afraid to give you a more adult-oriented story, and people who want violence and sexual storylines will be able to get it with Impact Wrestling.

Apart from this, Sami Callihan also talked about AEW, how Impact has proven to be the true alternative to other wrestling programming and more. You can check out his full interview at this link.

Update On “Big Surprise” Planned For WWE Backstage Debut

1

Last week, Renee Young appeared in a video hyping up the debut of WWE Backstage on FS1. She noted that there was to be a big special guest lined up for the show as well who would be dropping some big news. The name of the guest was supposed to be announced on Smackdown this week but it never happened.

According to a report from Wrestling Observer Radio, the special guest would have been either or both of Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman and the big news would have been that he is quitting Smackdown and headed to RAW. Due to the travel delays in Saudi Arabia, Lesnar appeared on Smackdown and gave away the news then instead.

“The Lesnar and Heyman thing where Lesnar goes to RAW, that was scheduled, but it was scheduled to be done on Tuesday to kick off the new Backstage weekly show at 11 o’clock,” Dave Meltzer said.

Renee Young sent out the following to hype the big announcement on the debut show.

“And for our very first guest: huge news! It’s going to be announced on Friday Night SmackDown. It’s a very big deal, I promise you don’t want to miss it. See you guys on Tuesday!”

Comments about the Lesnar to RAW situation come in around the 10-minute mark:

Reported Reasons WWE Talent Were Stuck In Saudi Arabia

2

The official story regarding WWE talent being stuck for 24 hours in Saudi Arabia this week is that the plane suffered a mechanical failure. According to a report from Wrestling Observer Radio, however, a financial dispute between WWE and the Saudi government might actually be to blame.

“They had not been paid for the last Saudi show, the Super ShowDown show that was the last Saudi show, as of September 30th,” Dave Meltzer said.

“They did say (on the investors call) they received $60 million after September 30th, which is when the report closed but before October 31st, and so this would be a couple of hours before (Crown Jewel) started. So, there was talk about money owed, and there was clearly money owed but exactly what happened that led to Vince McMahon having whatever happened that led to the delay…”

At this point, Meltzer talked about how Crown Jewel was to air live on television in Saudi Arabia but did not.

“In Saudi Arabia, the show was supposed to air live on television and it did not air live on television,” Meltzer continued.

What Happened In Saudi Arabia?

“The talent all knew the story that there was some sort of showdown and Vince would not allow the thing to be televised and then it was evidently settled in some form and then the show aired like, one person said 2 hours but I think it was like 40 minutes late.”

“A lot of the talent knew this, a lot of the talent had been told that money was owed. But then the talent was all then told ‘oh, it was a mechanical failure on the plane.'”

Meltzer would continue to say that one person he spoke to did believe Vince’s story about a mechanical failure on the plane, however.

“I know one person, of the many people who contacted me, one person did believe the story and did say there were mechanics working on the plane. Almost everyone else said that they didn’t buy the story at all.”

Meltzer and Alvarez’s full conversation on the matter can be listened to in the player below:

Chris Jericho vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi Set for NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 14

1

Chris Jericho is back under the NJPW (New Japan Pro-Wrestling) banner and already has his next match booked.

Jericho wants to wrestle Hiroshi Tanahashi at the NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 14 – Night Two event and he will get his wish. The promotion did an angle at Sunday’s Power Struggle show after Kota Ibushi and Tanahashi defeated Kazuchika Okada and YOSHI-HASHI in a tag team match.

NJPW Power Struggle 2019 Results and Coverage

This is when a video aired of a man vaguely looking like Tanahashi and rocking out to Tanahashi’s theme song. In the video, there were people who were attacked that led to Jericho appearing in his Painmaker outfit.

Jericho issued the challenge and warned that he’ll make this Tanahashi’s last match. Tanahashi accepted, which made the match official.

This contest was first reported by SI.com back on October 2nd. The show will take place over the course of two nights inside the Tokyo Dome next year on January 4th and 5th.

Jericho last appeared for NJPW at the Dominion event in June where he lost to Okada.

Jericho makes his next title defense on PPV when he wrestles Cody Rhodes at the upcoming Full Gear pay-per-view event on Saturday, November 9th from Baltimore’s Royal Farms Arena.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Power Struggle 2019 event took place at the EDION Arena in Osaka, Japan on November 3.

This event can be watched live on NJPW World.

Power Struggle 2019 Results

Titán, Volador Jr., TJP & Clark Connors def. Jushin Thunder Liger, Tiger Mask IV, Ryusuke Taguchi & Yuya Uemura (5:43)
With the exception of Liger, this tag team match was composed of wrestlers who failed to advance to the Final in the Super Junior Tag League. Volador Jr. entered wearing a Spiderman mask and rash guard. As always, Jushin Thunder Liger was incredibly over, but work from everyone involved was brisk and fast-paced. TJP pinned Yuya Uemura after a Detonation Kick.

Bullet Club (Taiji Ishimori & El Phantasmo) def. CHAOS (Robbie Eagles & Rocky Romero) (8:42)
With his tag team partner involved in a defense of IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, Robbie Eagles was left with Rocky Romero as a partner. Ishimori and Phantasmo used their superior experience to keep the CHAOS team apart. At one point, El Phantasmo walked the ropes with Rocky Romero in a fireman’s carry, then came crashing down on Robbie Eagles. El Phantasmo pinned Rocky Romero with the CR II.

Los Ingobernables de Japon (Shingo Takagi, SANADA & EVIL) def. Suzukigun (Lance Archer, Zack Sabre Jr. & Minoru Suzuki) (9:07)
The Suzukigun team entered to Lance Archer’s music, who walked to the ring bow-legged, carrying his newly won IWGP US Heavyweight Championship with one half of the strap in his pants. The highlight of this match was a long battle of strikes between Shingo and Minoru Suzuki. SANADA defeated Zack Sabre Jr. with a rolling cradle, as Suzuki and Shingo continued to battle outside the ring and the frustrated Zack Sabre Jr. put the referee in an armbar. Meanwhile, Lance Archer told the English commentators that he wanted to defend his IWGP US Heavyweight Championship against David Finlay.

Kota Ibushi & Hiroshi Tanahashi def. CHAOS (Kazuchika Okada & YOSHI-HASHI) (10:51)
All wrestlers received separate entrances except for YOSHI-HASHI. Tanahashi looked disinterested as Ibushi made his entrance, not wanting to be the second fiddle to the G1 Winner. He had really been focused on finding his own path to Wrestle Kingdom 14. Down the stretch, the fans really were hoping for YOSHI-HASHI, as was able to get near falls on Tanahashi. Nevertheless, Tanahashi reversed his Karma finisher. Tanahashi pinned YOSHI-HASHI with the High Fly Flow.

After the match ended, the lights went out, and a video of musicians with blonde hair getting beaten up played, then transitioned to Chris Jericho on the screen. He challenged Hiroshi Tanahashi to a match at Wrestle Kingdom 14 Day 2, on January 5, 2020. He said “It’s going to be a classic match. It’s also going to be your last match!”

Tetsuya Naito def. Taichi (12:56)
In contrast to his lackadaisical attitude, Naito immediately attacked Taichi at full speed. Their fight spilled into the crowd, where Taichi was able to get the upper hand. As Naito went for an avalanche hurricanrana, Taichi reversed it into a falling powerbomb, and taunted the downed Naito. Their other matches this year involved lots of out of the ring trickery, but now, Taichi was able to face Naito head on, eating his strikes and asking for more, and countering Naito’s first attempt at the Destino. Taichi hit the falling elevated powerbomb for a near fall as the crowd gasped. Naito hit a running Destino for a near fall, falling by the Valentia. Naito attempted the Destino once more, but Taichi caught him and tried to hit the Black Mephisto, and Naito wiggled out. Naito hit his own Black Mephisto, and then the Destino for the three count.

Super Junior Tag League 2019 Final Match: Roppongi 3K (SHO & YOH) def. Suzukigun (El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) (14:13)
As Roppongi 3K entered, Suzukigun snuck up behind them and attacked them, taking an advantage before the bell rang. With that advantage, they dominated the early going, isolating YOH. SHO was able to rally when he tagged them in, but more good teamwork put him on the disadvantage as well. El Desperado went for the Pinche Loco on SHO, but it was reversed, then Roppongi 3K were able to take control when they finally worked together. El Desperado reversed the Shock Arrow and hit a headbutt, but YOH came in and Roppongi 3K were able to hit 3K to pin El Desperado and win the Super Junior Tag League. This is their third time winning the Super Junior Tag League.

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Taiji Ishimori and El Phantasmo came out and attacked Roppongi 3K as they celebrated. With the tournament winners laid out, Bullet Club took the Super Junior Tag League trophies and posed with them as if they had won the tournament.

NEVER Openweight Championship Match: KENTA (c) def. Tomohiro Ishii (20:12)
KENTA had been spending the whole tour taunting Tomohiro Ishii, calling him cute and generally belittling him. His patience exhausted, Ishii had no time for KENTA’s antics, immediately going after him and bringing him back in when he tried to bail from the ring. Ishii took KENTA’s strikes and asked for more, but eventually his resiliency found its limit, as KENTA grinded him down with kicks, only for Ishii to find another gear and take the advantage once more. As Ishii went for a sliding lariat, KENTA sneakily managed to put on the Game Over crossface. Due to Ishii’s lack of neck, he was able to make it to the ropes and break the submission. KENTA hit the Busaiku Knee Kick, but Ishii powered through, only to eat a second one. KENTA hit a Falcon Arrow, a PK, but Ishii reversed the Go 2 Sleep attempt. KENTA hit the Go 2 Sleep, then pulled down his knee pad and hit a second one to defeat Tomohiro Ishii and defend the NEVER Openweight Championship.

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship Match: Will Ospreay (c) def. BUSHI (16:20)
Ospreay started the match with guns blazing, sending BUSHI reeling with high-speed offense. BUSHI did a good job of using Ospreay’s momentum against him, countering the Sasuke Special by dropping Ospreay on his head with an apron DDT. BUSHI hit a lightning spiral and went for the MX, but Ospreay got out of the way. Ospreay accidentally hit the referee and BUSHI went to spray black mist in Ospreay’s face, but Ospreay stopped it by taking the black mist from his mouth and spitting it in BUSHI’s face. Ospreay hit a shooting star press only for BUSHI to get the knees up and spray mist in Ospreay’s face. BUSHI went for the MX once more, but Ospreay hit a head kick to stop him. BUSHI hit a codebreaker and the MX, but Ospreay kicked out at two. BUSHI went for another MX, but Ospreay gave him an Oscutter out of mid air, followed by a Hidden Blade. Finally, Ospreay hit the Super Oscutter and Stormbreaker to pin BUSHI and defend the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship.

After the match, Ospreay made a list of all the junior heavyweights that he defeated, remarking that he had beaten anyone and there was no one left. As he left the ring, the lights went out, and a video of a Time Bomb scheduled to go off in 1,448 hours played. (1,448 hours from the time of this writing is on January 4th, 2020). Hiromu Takahashi entered to an electric response, pulled off the neck bandage he was wearing, threw it into the crowd, and ran around taking bumps. He took the microphone and said, while in a neck bridge to show that his neck was fine, that Ospreay was now the strongest junior heavyweight, but that now “Hiromu is back” and challenged Ospreay for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 14.

IWGP Intercontinental Championship Match: Jay White (c) def Hirooki Goto (27:40)
Ever since Hirooki Goto challenged White for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship at Destruction in Kobe, White had done nothing but belittle him, and say that he didn’t deserve to challenge for the Championship. In the early going, he seemed to be correct, as he controlled the early match, despite Goto nearly getting his hands on Gedo, who had yet to involve himself in the match. At one point, White threw Goto into the guardrail near the Japanese announce table, which drew the ire of guest commentator Katsuyori Shibata, who raised from his seat but did not act. White hit the Kiwi Crusher for a near fall. Goto rallied, hitting the Ushigoroshi, then went for the GTR, but White managed to avoid it, as Gedo distracted the referee to boos. White hit the sleeper suplex, but Goto headbutted him to stop him in his tracks, then hit a reverse GTR. Goto followed up with a Shouten Kai for a near fall. Goto hit the GTW, followed by the GTR, but Goto pulled the referee out of the ring so that he couldn’t count the pin, but Shibata came in and apprehended Gedo. KENTA then came in and hit Goto with a Go 2 Sleep, then a kick on Shibata. KENTA continued attacking Shibata, as Jay White hit the Blade Runner on Goto to retain the IWGP Intercontinental Championship.

Jay White says he wants to be the first IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Champion and to wrestle against the winner of Ibushi vs. Okada on the second day of Wrestle Kingdom 14. He taunts Ibushi and Okada to come to the ring, but Tetsuya Naito comes to the ring instead. Eventually, Kota Ibushi and Kazuchika Okada come to the ring as well. Naito and Ibushi are also in favor of a double championship match. However, Okada dissents, and says that there should be a fan vote to decide it. Jay White demands to be announced as “IWGP Intercontinental Champion and future double Champion.” He is announced as such, and confetti rains down as Naito glares at him from the entrance ramp.

Renee Young Reacts To Getting Kicked In Face During SmackDown Match

5

Renee Young had an interesting night while calling Friday Night SmackDown.

Young was on commentary alongside Tom Phillips and Pat McAfee because Michael Cole and Corey Graves were stuck in Saudi Arabia and forced to miss the show.

The show, which was held in Buffalo, New York at the KeyBank Center on FOX, featured a women’s tag team match that was booked after Bayley retained her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Nikki Cross.

The contest saw Rhea Ripley and Tegan Nox defeat Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville in quick fashion. The finish of the match saw Rose be tapped out to Ripley’s Inverted Shamrock submission move.

Right before the finish, Nox launched Deville over the commentary table towards Young.

This is when Young ended up taking an accidental left foot to the face from Deville while Phillips and McAfee were able to avoid being struck.

Young took to Twitter to react to the incident after Nox Nox apologized for causing Deville to essentially hit Young with a spinning heel kick. You can see the clip here:

https://twitter.com/TeganNoxWWE_/status/1190474917835399168

WWE needed to fly in several members of the NXT roster because the majority of SmackDown and RAW stars were stuck in Saudi Arabia while trying to make it back from the Crown Jewel pay-per-view event.

Bray Wyatt Teases Change To Title Belt Design

6

Smackdown superstar Bray Wyatt is the new WWE Universal Champion. The Universal title has been the top championship on WWE RAW since its inception in the summer of 2016. WWE Champion Brock Lesnar was also assigned to Smackdown until quitting the brand last night and promising to show up on RAW this Monday to confront Rey Mysterio.

It seems then that the two world titles in WWE have now switched brands with the Universal title being on Smackdown and the WWE title on RAW. This begs the question of if the Universal title will get a makeover and no longer feature the red-colored design synonymous with WWE RAW.

Last night, Bray Wyatt tweeted out a picture of a custom made belt he had made for him in 2017:

Top Rope belts created the unique looking title for Wyatt in 2017:

This was several months after Wyatt dropped the WWE Championship to Randy Orton at WrestleMania 33, however.

Will this be the new design for the Universal Championship now that the title is on Smackdown?

WWE Universal Champion Statistics

  1. Brock Lesnar (3x) 688 days as champion.
  2. Kevin Owens (1x) 188 days as champion.
  3. Seth Rollins (2x) 179 days as champion.
  4. Roman Reigns (1x) 64 days as champion.
  5. Goldberg (1x) 28 days as champion.
  6. Bray Wyatt (1x) 2 days+ as champion.
  7. Finn Balor (1x) 1 day as champion.

5 Takeaways From WWE SmackDown (11/1)

The November 1st, 2019 episode of WWE SmackDown aired live from the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, NY. In addition to the takeaways below, NXT superstars Keith Lee and Matt Riddle made an appearance and took turns beating up Sami Zayn.

Here are 5 takeaways from the show:

Brock Lesnar Quit SmackDown & Is Heading To RAW

WWE Champion Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman kicked off this week’s episode SmackDown. Brock was greeted with a chorus of boos from the crowd in Buffalo as he made his way to the ring.

Heyman called the crowd ignorant and stated that Brock Lesnar is really pissed off tonight. Paul made the ridiculous claim that Lesnar defeating Velasquez at Crown Jewel was the most historic moment in combat sports history before WWE pretty much showed the entire match again.

Paul brought up Rey Mysterio attacking Lesnar after the match and showed that footage as well. Heyman announced that Lesnar is going to RAW on Monday to look for Mysterio and that he quits Friday Night SmackDown. Triple H and Shawn Michaels were shown backstage as Lesnar left the building.

I didn’t plan on ever having to sit through Velasquez vs. Lesnar again but we got to see that joke of a match again tonight on SmackDown. Brock also appeared to be wearing a replica title for whatever reason. The belt was missing the side plates and looked smaller than usual. The positive in Lesnar going to RAW is that it hopefully means that Wyatt will get an actual title reign now.

Tommaso Ciampa

The Miz was scheduled to interview Universal Champion Bray Wyatt but several superstars are still stuck in Saudi Arabia due to travel issues. The Miz rolled footage of Bray Wyatt’s victory over Seth Rollins last night at WWE Crown Jewel.

Miz noted that Bray Wyatt could not be here today and then turned his attention to NXT. Tommaso Ciampa interrupted and made his way to the ring to a great reaction from the crowd.

Ciampa said that he is the greatest sports entertainer of all-time and that The Miz acts as if the entire world revolves around him. Tommaso told The Miz that he is everything that is wrong with RAW and SmackDown.

Tommaso mocked Miz for hosting a talk show and while Miz is playing the part, Ciampa is the part. The Miz claimed that he has heard the same thing for years and was hoping that Ciampa would have come up with something a little more original. The Miz then challenged Ciampa to a match and Tommaso accepted.

The Miz started off the match in control and applied a Headlock. Ciampa escaped and leveled Miz with a shoulder tackle. Miz went for a roll-up but Ciampa kicked out at two. The Miz threw Ciampa out of the ring and went after him but Tommaso was ready.

Ciampa launched Miz into the barricade and then into the steel steps. Tommaso hopped on the apron and gave himself a round of applause. Back in the ring, Miz locked in the Figure Four but Ciampa was able to reach the bottom rope. Ciampa applied a Half Crab but Miz countered into a roll-up for a two count.

Tommaso and Miz traded chops in the middle of the ring. Miz sent Ciampa to the corner and hit him with a Clothesline. The Miz leaped off the top rope but Ciampa caught him with a knee to the face. Ciampa followed it up with the Fairy Tale Ending for the pinfall victory.

Daniel Bryan confronted Triple H and Shawn Michaels backstage. Bryan challenged Triple H to a match but he claimed that he didn’t have his wrestling gear. Michaels took off his jacket but quickly put it back on because it was too cold. Triple H stated that he knew someone that was looking for a fight and NXT Champion Adam Cole came into frame. Bryan challenged Cole to a match for the NXT Championship and Adam accepted.

Triple H and Shawn Michaels were ringside for the title match. Bryan started off the match in control and hit Cole with a series of chops in the corner of the ring. Cole battled back and hit Daniel with a shoulder tackle. Cole went for a Suplex but Bryan countered into a suplex of his own that sent both superstars tumbling out of the ring as SmackDown went to a commercial break.

Back from the break, Cole connected with a Neckbreaker and went for the cover but Bryan kicked out at two. Adam applied a Figure Four Headlock in the middle of the ring but Daniel was able to reach the ropes. Bryan leveled Cole with a Clothesline and the crowd broke out in a “yes!” chant. Daniel launched Cole out of the ring and hit him with a knee to the face off the apron.

Bryan rolled Cole into the ring and made his way to the top turnbuckle. Daniel connected with a Dropkick and then perched Cole up on the top turnbuckle. Bryan went for a Hurricanrana but Cole countered into a roll-up for a two count. Adam Cole then hit a kick to the face for a near fall. Bryan threw Cole to the outside and went for a Suicide Dive but Cole countered with another kick to the face and both superstars fell to the floor as SmackDown went to a break.

Cole and Bryan were once again battling on the top rope when SmackDown returned from the break. Bryan hit Cole with a German Suplex off the top rope and then went for a headbutt but Cole out of the way. Cole went for the Last Shot but Bryan countered into a Half Crab in the middle of the ring.

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1190446390473871365?s=20

Adam fought through the pain and reached the bottom rope to break the hold. Bryan then applied the LeBell Lock but Cole was able to escape. Bryan stomped on Cole’s face several times and applied the LeBell Lock once again. Cole reached for the bottom rope but Bryan pulled his arm back. Adam was able to get his foot on the bottom rope to finally break the hold.

Bryan hit a couple Yes Kicks and then Cole countered into a roll-up for a two count. Daniel booted Cole in the face and geared up in the corner. Bryan went for the Running Knee but Cole caught him with a Superkick. Cole then hit Panama Sunrise and followed it up with the Last Shot for the pinfall victory. Adam Cole is still the NXT Champion.

After the match, several NXT superstars came down to the ring and celebrated with Adam Cole. Triple H grabbed the microphone and stated that he has built an army for a fight. Triple H added that they have fired the first shot for Survivor Series and shouted “we are NXT!” to close the show.

WWE’s travel issues led to them putting one of the best episodes of SmackDown I’ve seen in a long time. The main event was fantastic and the entire show absolutely flew by because it was so entertaining. NXT has been my favorite brand in WWE for some time now and adding them to Survivor Series was an awesome decision.

Brock Lesnar “Quits” WWE SmackDown, Headed To RAW

10

Brock Lesnar is headed back to Monday Night RAW.

On Friday’s episode of SmackDown in Buffalo, New York at the KeyBank Center on FOX, the WWE Champion and Paul Heyman walked down to the ring to open the show.

In this segment, Heyman cut a promo about Lesnar beating former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez at the WWE Crown Jewel pay-per-view event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in two minutes. The full match aired during this.

WWE SmackDown Live Results & Live Discussion (11/1)

This led to Heyman talking about Lesnar being upset because of the chair shots he took from Rey Mysterio after the match.

Heyman would tell a story about how he told Vince McMahon to give him Mysterio but McMahon wouldn’t allow that. The reason for that is due to Mysterio being exclusive to RAW and Lesnar was exclusive to SmackDown.

Heyman would announce that Lesnar is quitting SmackDown and is slated to be on the hunt for Mysterio on Monday’s episode of RAW.

This could be done due to there being two top championships on the SmackDown brand.

Bray Wyatt beat Seth Rollins to win the WWE Universal Title at Crown Jewel and because Wyatt is a SmackDown star, he took the championship with him to the show.

He says Miz needs to know where he sits in the food chain, and Miz is everything that’s wrong with RAW and SmackDown. Ciampa says while he was breaking his neck in NXT to prove how good he is, The Miz is here playing a talk show host. Bryan says he’s looking for a battle, and challenges Triple H to go fight him right now. Triple H comes nose to nose with Bryan, but Triple H steps back and says he didn’t bring his gear. Triple H says he knows someone else who brought their gear. They joke that it could be Shawn Michaels, but it’s not. Triple H brings out NXT Champion Adam Cole. Bryan accepts the match, but he wants it to be for the NXT Title. Triple H and Cole agree, and we’ve got an NXT Title match tonight.

The Rock To Produce & Star In Film About MMA Pioneer Mark Kerr’s Life

0

At Friday’s UFC 245 press conference in New York City, former WWE Champion Dwanye “The Rock” Johnson announced that he will be producing and starring in a movie about the life of MMA pioneer Mark Kerr.

After the fighters of UFC 245 left the stage, The Rock came out to discuss the UFC’s new “BMF” Title Belt, and also made his new movie announcement.

After discussing tomorrow’s UFC event, and indulging the fans with some of his classic catch-phrases, the Rock moved on to the subject of his new film.

“I’m very excited to announce this, and I wanted to start with the MMA community and UFC fans first,” The Rock said. “Myself and Seven Bucks Productions are going to make a film about the life of one of your pioneering founding fathers, “The Smashing Machine” Mark Kerr.”

Kerr’s story was featured in the 2003 HBO documentary The Smashing Machine, which chronicled the early days of “no holds barred” MMA and substance abuse.

“There are warriors in MMA who have this incredible humanity who have achieved these incredible accomplishments, and that’s what I want the world to see. These men and women sacrifice so much, and there is so much pressure for them to win and to succeed,” The Rock added. “Mark Kerr’s story is such an incredible story. Here’s a guy who won the two-time Heavyweight tournament in the early stages of UFC. Here’s also a guy who went over to PRIDE and had this incredible run. And I wanted to shine a spotlight on this man who is still alive.”

Kerr’s story also involved drug abuse and personal issues, which will require Johnson to show his dramatic acting chops.

“I think what’s interesting about Mark Kerr’s story, is yes he achieved so much, he was The Smashing Machine, undefeated for a long time, but also like a lot of these fighters, he battled these demons,” Rock continued. “These demons of addictions and mental health […] here’s a guy who has gone through it all, hit rock bottom, but he gets up and you want to do a little bit better tomorrow than you did today.”

The Rock talked about what it will take for him to “become Mark Kerr,” saying that he was drawn to Mark’s story and was moved after seeing The Smashing Machine years ago.

“Yes it’s a dramatic role, but Mark has actually lived a dramatic life,” Rock explained. “It’s an opportunity to shine the light on one of our warriors who deserves it and has this universal appeal. The guy was a beast, he was dominant, and there was only one like him at that time.”

“Mark is a special dude, and he’s really overwhelmed that this is happening,” The Rock added. “I love that he trusts me with his life and his story. I told Mark I’d be making the announcement today to the MMA world, and Mark told me to tell everyone he loves him, and that he doesn’t have to language to express how grateful he is that I’m sharing this story.”

Update On Tyson Fury’s WWE Status, Potential Match With Brock Lesnar

4

Tyson Fury defeated Braun Strowman at WWE Crown Jewel yesterday by way of a count-out. Fury hit Strowman with a punch while he was on the ring apron, sending him crashing to the floor and unable to get back in the ring to meet the referee’s 10-count.

According to a recent report from the Wrestling Observer, the original plan had been for Tyson Fury and Brock Lesnar to face each other but that was scrapped when Cain Velasquez entered the picture.

“According to those internally, Lesnar vs. Fury was discussed but never got past early discussions, likely due to Velasquez having the storyline from the past and being the bigger star in the U.S. market, which is WWE’s primary market, and for Saudi Arabia, it wasn’t the matchups that were important as much as delivering matches with Fury and Velasquez,” wrote Dave Meltzer on the situation.

Fury spoke with WWE.com after Crown Jewel and noted that he has a rematch with Deontay Wilder in 2020 and that fight is his current top priority. As a result, there are currently no plans for him in WWE, though he is said to be open to working with the company again in the future.

“I’ve got a big fella called Deontay Wilder to see to, February 22, and then we see where we go from there,” Fury said following the event.

Wilder and Fury fought to a controversial draw in their last fight.

“I was really happy to be here in Saudi Arabia on a massive show,” said Fury of Crown Jewel. “Braun is the ‘Monster Among Men’. When I hit him with that piledriving right hand, I cannot believe he got back up and slammed me to the floor.”

“It was a bit of a cheap shot after the bell, but what can we do? It’s WWE.”

Bea Priestley On Why She Didn’t Sign With NXT UK

4

Current World of Stardom champion and AEW wrestler Bea Priestley was offered a contract to join NXT UK. Priestley would turn down the offer, however. She noted in a recent interview with Talk Sport in the UK that she did so out of fear she would get lost in the shuffle in WWE.

“It was very difficult because, Toni Storm, she is one of my best friends ever,” Priestley said when asked if it was difficult to turn down the NXT UK contract. “And also, I’ve got a very strong bond with Kay Lee [Ray] and Viper [Piper Niven]; Piper and I are a tag team in Japan and I’ve got a lot of working experience with Kay Lee.”

Priestley would continue to say that at the time they offered her a contract, however, she felt as though she would get lost in the shuffle of their roster.

“At the time when they offered me a contract, I already knew that Piper and Kay Lee had signed. So for me, I didn’t think that I was never going to have a spotlight on me because they had just signed two of the top girls in the UK.”

Priestley was concerned she would end up as a mid-carder on the brand.

“So I was going to be signed as a mid-carder and it would have taken me a while to get the spotlight on me. So in my head, I was like ‘Ok, if I stay away – I still want to get a lot more experience in Japan – I still have a lot of other things I want to do’, for me, that was the best decision for me.”

https://twitter.com/BeaPriestley/status/1188034756945965057

Bea Priestley on Signing With AEW

Priestley would also talk about her relationship with the team from AEW during the interview. She mentioned first working with Cody and Brandi in 2016/17 around the time when she was being recruited by the NXT UK brand.

“I first met Cody Rhodes and Brandi Rhodes during a What Culture show in 2016 or 2017? It was a few years ago. So I already had a good relationship with Brandi and at the end of 2018, then Brandi and Cody did a tour with a promotion called Fight Forever. I wrestled Brandi on one of those shows and Brandi really enjoyed the match, Cody really enjoyed the match and they were like ‘that was really great’, but then I got a phone call from NXT UK.”

Ultimately, AEW would offer her a deal which would allow her to continue to work with Stardom as well.

“So I contacted Cody and said ‘they’ve made me an offer but I’m not really sure what I want to do’ and then from there, Cody and Brandi offered me a part-time deal and for me, I still wanted to have a big poart in Stardom, so the AEW deal worked out a lot better for me than the NXT UK deal. Because I wouldn’t be able to commit as much as I have to Japan if I was in NXT UK.”

WWE’s Statement On Saudi Fight Delays Impacting SmackDown, Teases Surprises

7

Earlier this morning, reports about flight delays that will be impacting tonight’s (November 1) episode of Friday Night SmackDown started surfacing.

WWE had a quick turnaround time as the WWE crew had to return from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia after Thursday’s Crown Jewel event.

Although Vince McMahon and a small group of Superstars left before the issues began, the majority of the WWE talent roster and production people were stuck in Saudi Arabia.

This afternoon, WWE issued a statement where they confirmed the issues as well as giving an updated look at the show. This is where WWE noted that the show will feature Superstars such as Daniel Bryan, The Miz, Carmella, Nikki Cross, Dana Brooke.

Interesting enough to note that they also teased “additional surprises.” The stars above didn’t travel to Saudi Arabia as well as the women’s divisions aside from Lacey Evans, Natalya, and Lana.

You can see WWE’s statement here:

“More than 175 Superstars, production crew and employees boarded a 747 charter flight back to the United States on Thursday. After the door closed, due to several aircraft problems including mechanical issues, all passengers sat on the tarmac for more than six hours.

With SmackDown set to emanate live from Buffalo, N.Y., several Superstars felt so strongly that they arranged for their own separate charter in order to make it back to the U.S. for the show. Due to unforeseen issues, that charter will not land until after the live broadcast on FOX.”

WWE Suffering Travel Problems Leaving Saudi Arabia Ahead Of SmackDown

This will serve as the post-Crown Jewel episode of SmackDown. PWinsider.com reports that a new flight has been arranged to take them from Riyadh to the United States around 3 AM local time tonight.

Here is what was being advertised for SmackDown before the flight delay issues began:

  • “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt to appear on MizTV with The Miz
  • Roman Reigns vs. Baron Corbin
  • SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Revival vs. The New Day’s Kofi Kingston and Big E
  • SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville vs. Carmella, Nikki Cross and Dana Brooke

Storyline Plans For Finn Balor Before He Moved To NXT

Recent WWE storyline plans for Finn Balor that were ultimately scrapped have come to light. Finn Balor is now working as heel on the NXT brand, but it turns out the company had other plans for him up until recently.

Balor asked WWE officials for two months off, which started in August with the idea being that his sabbatical would begin once he lost to Bray Wyatt at the SummerSlam pay-per-view event. Despite what was being speculated, WWE never intended for Balor to continue his feud with Wyatt.

Balor was supposed to be moved from RAW to SmackDown once he returned after taking time off, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Thus, that’s the reason that he was advertised for SmackDown live events on WWE’s Australian tour that went down from October 21st to 23rd as well as WWE UK tour later this month.

When WWE NXT moved from the WWE Network to the USA Network starting in September, a noticeable trend of declining ratings for NXT started and went downhill quickly once they went head-to-head with AEW Dynamite on TNT in the same time slot.

Finn Balor Claims Nobody Watched NXT After He Joined WWE’s Main Roster

He was moved to NXT with the idea that his star power could make more of a difference there.

Since making his return to NXT, Balor got the wrestling world talking with turning heel by attacking Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa that kicked off his next feud.

Kelly Klein & Joey Mercury Speak Out Regarding ROH Issues

3

Joey Mercury is gone from Ring of Honor and there are those in the company not happy about that fact. WOH World Champion Kelly Klein has issued a statement on Twitter in regard to Mercury’s departure as has her husband and former ROH employee (now with AEW) B.J Whitmer.

A Twitter account believed to be recently created by Joey Mercury is also posting messages online regarding the matter.

Klein is speaking up despite being afraid it could lead to repercussions for her.

BJ Whitmer spent years working behind the scenes and in front of the camera for Ring of Honor. He signed on with AEW earlier this year, however. Whitmer posted the below Tweet to his followers on social media:

NXT Injury Report For This Week

2

Every week since debuting on the USA Network, NXT has released an in-storyline injury update. 2 wrestlers are listed on the report this week. Dakota Kai and Kyle O’Reilly both sustained injuries, though neither is considered serious.

Dakota Kai took green mist to the face from Asuka this week on NXT. She is reported to have been dealing with vision problems after the show and had to have her eyes flushed out. More serious for Kai, however, is that her knee was hyperextended in the match and she is now listed as “questionable” for next week.

Kyle O’Reilly is listed in the report as having suffered a bruised eye. His injury is not considered serious, however, and it does not appear he will miss any time.
