WWE SummerSlam Staff Predictions

1

WWE SummerSlam takes place this Sunday night from Brooklyn, New York at the Barclays Center. The card for the 31st event under the SummerSlam chronology is a stacked one, with the best from the RAW and SmackDown Live brands.

The main event for Sunday’s PPV will see Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns battle it out for the WWE Universal Championship in a match that will be viewed closely due to rumors of “The Beast Incarnate” possibly being UFC-bound. Other headline bouts will see Ronda Rousey challenge Alexa Bliss for the RAW Women’s Championship and Samoa Joe challenge longtime rival A.J. Styles for the WWE Championship.

SEScoops staff writers Ian Carey, Andrew Ravens and Jeff Moss have prepared their predictions for each of the matches scheduled for Sunday’s big event. Without further adieu, here are our predictions for WWE SummerSlam.

RAW Tag-Team Champions The B-Team vs. The Revival

Ian: I wish I thought the Revival are getting the belts but considering the match is on the preshow, I’m going to go with Axel and Dallas. I get the feeling the Revival might not be Vince McMahon’s cup of tea. (Prediction: The B-Team)

Andrew: A match that is purely filler as we just saw it this week on Raw and one that no one really cares about. The Revival should obviously have a run as tag team champions and will eventually but not here. WWE is behind Dallas and Axel right now, and they find a way to retain the titles. (Prediction: The B-Team)

Jeff: I doubt I’m alone in thinking that the B-Team thing has just about run it’s course. I’m all for comedy wrestlers or in this case tag teams, but “accidentally” succeeding gets old. If I’m lucky, the Revival with walk out there, Shatter Machine them both back to Main Event and walk away with the straps, breathing some much needed air into the RAW tag team scene. Smackdown has been killing it lately with tag teams, so let’s get a RAW team that we can take seriously as Champions. (Prediction: The Revival)

CONSENSUS: 2-1 for The B-Team

Rusev & Lana vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas & Zelina Vega

Ian: If this was on the main card I would expect a storyline development involving Aiden English but I think they will wait for Smackdown to do that. The pre-show isn’t given as much importance for storylines and angles. Almas and Zelina should win after botched interference from Aiden English but English won’t leave the trio completely until Tuesday. (Prediction: Andrade “Cien” Almas & Zelina Vega)

Andrew: This is a throwaway match that will likely have a heavy showcase for Rusev and Almas, who should have a good match that will likely have them dominate the in-ring time of it. It’s a toss-up as to who wins this match. Rusev and Lana are fan favorites, but Almas has been kept strong on TV. I have Almas and Zega winning here. (Prediction: Andrade “Cien” Almas & Zelina Vega)

Jeff: Given that this card has Bryan/Miz, Aj/Samoa Joe and about a dozen other matches on it, I shouldn’t really complain about the wonderful unicorn known as Rusev and the downlow best worker in the company, Almas, being sandwiched into this mixed tag match. That said, wouldn’t Rusev vs Samoa Joe for the title be something you’d want to see at say, Survivor Series? Anyway, Rusev & Lana win here because they have merch. (Prediction: Rusev & Lana)

CONSENSUS: 2-1 for Andrade “Cien” Almas & Zelina Vega

Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz

Ian: Daniel Bryan will surely take home the feel-good victory here. One might think that Miz would get the win due to his reality show currently airing but Miz is better showcased by being given his due from babyfaces, anyway. (Prediction: Daniel Bryan)

Andrew: The contract status of Bryan plays a big factor in this match due to the fact that the next PPV event is after the date that his contract expires. If Bryan wins here, I could see that being a factor that he re-signed, but if he loses, that could lead to two things. Either he has signed a new deal, and WWE will continue this feud, or he hasn’t and want to put Miz over. Bryan should go over here in storyline, and I will predict he’ll win. (Prediction: Daniel Bryan)

Jeff: This feud has had it all; heated words, on-set face punchings, fake babies, and some of the most killer video packages WWE has ever done. This will more than likely be the match of the night given the 8 years of heat between the two men involved. I’d expect Daniel Bryan to win here, unless he’s planning on heading for the Indies next month. I don’t want to lose him from my weekly TV viewing though, so with a little luck this will not only be a killer match, but show WWE that they should back that dump truck full of cash out of Lesnar’s driveway and head west with it to Chez Danielson. (Prediction: Daniel Bryan)

CONSENSUS: 3-0 for Daniel Bryan

Finn Balor vs. Baron Corbin

Ian: Balor should pick up the feel-good victory here. Once upon a time Finn Balor was winning World Championships at SummerSlam… now he’s wrestling Corbin in a match few are excited about. (Prediction: Finn Balor)

Andrew: Balor should win here and for the sake of the match, let’s hope they keep it short as they haven’t had the greatest matches in the world when they work with each other. Balor gets his revenge once and for all. Balor wins. (Prediction: Finn Balor)

Jeff: It’d be fun if Finn showed up in Biker Werewolf Baron Corbin cosplay, or beat him in 5 seconds and spent the next 30 minutes in the ring building a Lego Millennium Falcon. Aside from that, I can’t see this match being anything other than a pee-break for me, which is a shame considering how great Finn Balor is. (Prediction: Finn Balor)

CONSENSUS: 3-0 for Finn Balor

WWE U.S. Champion Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Jeff Hardy

Ian: So Randy Orton never got named to this match? He must get involved somehow. I’m predicting this match gets thrown out in some way due to Orton’s interference. I also predict nobody shakes his hand following the match. (Prediction: No Contest)

Andrew: Randy Orton lingering in the background of this match will be put out to shine, and he could even play a factor into this fight. We’ve already seen this match twice with the latest finish coming with Orton attacking Hardy for him to win by DQ. I have Nakamura winning with help from Orton, who distracts Hardy, in order to retain his title. (Prediction: Shinsuke Nakamura)

Jeff: Seriously, what does this guy have against Jeff Hardy’s balls? Shinsuke has crushed them. Shinsuke has allowed Randy Orton to crush them. Shinsuke crushed them AGAIN. I was hoping once he moved on from Aj, Nakamura could have a really feud with someone like Rusev or Daniel Bryan or even Tye Dillinger. But no, here we are, looking at our 7.000th Hardy/Nakamura match in 60 days that will more than likely have a testicle-related finish. Maybe if Matt’s serious about retiring, he could manage his brother and keep the w(br)oken universe alive. (Prediction: Shinsuke Nakamura)

CONSENSUS: 2-1 for Shinsuke Nakamura

WWE Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander vs. Drew Gulak

Ian: It’s still Cedric’s time with the title. Until 205 Live develops a potential new star, they won’t take the belt off the current champ. Lio Rush could be on his way up but he’s not there yet. (Prediction: Cedric Alexander)

Andrew: Alexander has gone a great job at not only being the Cruiserweight Champion but also carrying the 205 Live brand, which needed a solid champion that the fans could not only get behind but also believe in. Alexander will retain in a fun match. (Prediction: Cedric Alexander)

Jeff: Oh yeah, they still have a Cruiserweight title, don’t they? I kid, 205 live has been great lately, and I like Alexander as the champion. I’d expect him to retain here, possibly via Mustafa Ali interference in order to keep the belt on Alexander so they can go at it again. Come to think of it, a Crusierweight Hell in a Cell match has never been done before, has it… (Prediction: Cedric Alexander)

CONSENSUS: 3-0 for Cedric Alexander

SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Carmella vs. Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair

Ian: I’m picking Carmella! A triple threat with one heel and two friends is often a great opportunity for the heel to pick up a cheap victory. Expect Carmella to rub her victory in on social media to all the people who tell her she can’t wrestle. (Prediction: Carmella)

Andrew: All signs point to Carmella losing the title here, but WWE might have a swerve coming with either Lynch or Flair turning on each other and setting up a rivalry going forward. Carmella squeaks out with a cheap win to retain her title. (Prediction: Carmella)

Jeff: Thanks for keeping that belt warm, Carmella! But Charlotte’s back in town and if she doesn’t walk out of SummerSlam the winner, I’ll be shocked. I could easily see this leading to a battle between Becky and Charlotte over the title as Charlotte will probably employ some of her father’s tactics in order to win. Could bring some “straight fire” to the SD women’s division heading into fall! Also, where’s Asuka? (Prediction: Charlotte Flair)

CONSENSUS: 2-1 for Carmella

WWE Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler vs. Seth Rollins

Ian: The Shield will take this match for the feel good victory. The real question becomes if Roman will be thrown into the Shield reunion after SummerSlam is over. (Prediction: Seth Rollins)

Andrew: An interesting dynamic here as Rollins should get his revenge on Ziggler after weeks of problems and getting beat down by both Ziggler and Drew McIntyre. However, with Dean Ambrose being at ringside, that adds a factor into it. I think WWE keeps the strap on Ziggler here with Ambrose and McIntyre getting into at ringside which allows Ziggler to walk away with the cheap win and setting up a tag team match next month. (Prediction: Dolph Ziggler)

Jeff: Another potential show stealer in this match, especially with the return of jacked up, Angry Dean Ambrose. However, am I the only one who thinks after the match he’s going to turn on his former Shield Bro, setting up a feud between the two over the IC title? Dolph can go do standup for a while and wouldn’t it be fun to see Drew take on a new, Braun Strowman-sized challenge? I think it would. Like I say, potential show-stealer, but Seth wins. (Prediction: Seth Rollins)

CONSENSUS: 2-1 for Seth Rollins

MITB Briefcase Holder Braun Strowman vs. Kevin Owens

Ian: I have a feeling I might give a different pick than many on this one. I’m taking Kevin Owens, however. Owens is a cowardly heel and Strowman an unstoppable monster. One needs a briefcase to win the title and the other doesn’t. I expect Owens to get another cheap victory by way of DQ or count-out to win the briefcase. Strowman will have to win the title some other way. (Prediction: Kevin Owens)

Andrew: Strowman should not lose this match not only due to the good momentum that he has despite working with Owens at the previous PPV event but also because of what’s on the line here as Strowman is someone that should/will be booked into the main event scene, and likely an opponent for Roman Reigns going forward. Strowman goes over here to win the match and keep his MITB briefcase. (Prediction: Braun Strowman)

Jeff: I’m genuinely curious what they plan to do with this match as they have telegraphed the idea of an Owens win and Cash-in pretty hard. Hell, could even be just a Strowman cash-in, but since it’s expected, thats when WWE likes to throw the monkey wrench into things. Are they ready to pull the trigger on a Strowman title run? I don’t think so, but Owens, the best Universal Champion, getting the case and holding it over the heads of everyone heading into the fall would make for great TV. Either way, no one gets rag dolled like by Strowman like Owens, so the match should be entertaining. (Prediction: Kevin Owens)

CONSENSUS: 2-1 for Kevin Owens

SmackDown Live Tag-Team Champions The Bludgeon Brothers vs. The New Day

Ian: I get the feeling Vince McMahon isn’t totally done building the Bludgeon Brothers up as monsters yet. I give them the win over New Day. (Prediction: The Bludgeon Brothers)

Andrew: You could make the case that it’s time to put the titles on The New Day as a way to change up the division but Harper and Rowan are still a new act as we have seen New Day as champions several times in the past. I see it being a good to solid match that could be extended another month. There’s no real good reason to take the titles off Harper and Rowan, and I see them retaining. (Prediction: The Bludgeon Brothers)

Jeff: Let me just jump right to the prediction here and say New Day takes back the tag titles. The Bludgeons have run the course, which is sad given that they are both great workers. Hopefully WWE can find a niche for them that doesn’t involve paper mâché hammers and Nu-Metal outfits soon. New Day have been having killer matches for what, a year now? It’s time they take their place on top and we get a re-match of their Hell In A Cell outing with the Usos. (Prediction: The New Day)

CONSENSUS: 2-1 for The Bludgeon Brothers

WWE Champion A.J. Styles vs. Samoa Joe

Ian: This will be a fantastic match but it will not be where Styles loses the championship. I think AJ is going to be given the belt to run with until he surpasses CM Punk’s 481 day mark. To WrestleMania and beyond AJ! One day Joe will get the belt, it just won’t be Sunday. (Prediction: A.J. Styles)

Andrew: I actually see Joe winning this match here as it makes sense. Joe has been built up as a top star and challenger on the blue brand. These two are advertised for upcoming WWE events and will likely continue their feud at the Hell in a Cell PPV event next month. Styles has had a great run as champ, but now it’s time for him to chase with Joe as champion, which is something that is overdue. Joe wins the title. (Prediction: Samoa Joe)

Jeff: AJ Styles is one of the best performers in the world right now, arguably all time. He’s had classic matches during his run in WWE, but let’s be honest; his title reign has be lacking. Mainly lacking an adversary that can deliver. Joe can deliver. These two should be able to put on a clinic in what should be match of the night. My only disappointment has been that this feud has so far been mostly talking. Weird, family oriented talking. Here’s hoping some action takes it to the next level. As may or may not be apparent, I love heated rivalries over titles where it goes back and forth. (Prediction: Samoa Joe)

CONSENSUS: 2-1 for Samoa Joe

RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss vs. Ronda Rousey

Ian: I hope this match closes the show. It likely won’t, otherwise WWE would have made a big deal of the first women to main event SummerSlam. I think Rousey squashes Bliss and begins her reign as an unstoppable champion. (Prediction: Ronda Rousey)

Andrew: It appears more and more that this is Rousey’s time to finally capture her first title in the WWE and no other spot is better than SummerSlam at this time of the year. Some can say that it’s too early for her to win the title but we are getting closer month by month to WrestleMania. Rousey wins the title and can feud with Bliss for the next few months. Rousey gets it done. (Prediction: Ronda Rousey)

Jeff: Alexa bliss is a 5-time women’s champion. Ronda Rousey may not be human. We’ve already done the “Rhonda loses via shenanigans” bit so hopefully the WWE doesn’t go back to that well. As much as I love Alexa, if you want Rousey to be as dominant as she should be, she needs to grab that belt like she was born for it. That alone will elevate the title, division and give the women like Ember Moon and Ruby Riot a reason to step up their game and show us what they’ve got. (Prediction: Ronda Rousey)

CONSENSUS: 3-0 for Ronda Rousey

WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns

Ian: I picked Roman at WrestleMania and I was incredibly confident in my pick. At the Greatest Royal Rumble, I again picked Roman and again felt confident in my pick. Yet somehow, here we are at SummerSlam and I’m about to make the same mistake all over again. He has to right? They have to have Roman beat Brock at SummerSlam. Part of me wants to believe he won’t and then they’ll have Strowman beat him and become the new big dog he runs this yard. Won’t happen though. Roman for the win. (Prediction: Roman Reigns)

Andrew: This is by far the easiest prediction of this whole card. Vinnie Mac gets his way and crowns Reigns as the Universal Champion. Lesnar, who is off to the UFC, is not advertised for any other WWE events and his contract is most likely up after this match. This isn’t a huge surprise by any means. Although I do pick Reigns as the winner, don’t be surprised to see Braun Strowman cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase after the match as a way to send the fans home happy. Reigns wins this match against Lesnar and the title. (Prediction: Roman Reigns)

Jeff: This match has been talked about, written about, blogged about, podcasted about and speculated on by everyone and their (big) dog, myself included, and I’m so tired of it. It’s going to go one of three ways; 1) Roman wins and everyone boos because they’ve been trained to even though he’s really good. 2) Brock retains and flips back and forth from WWE to UFC, we still don’t have a major title on RAW and everyone boos. Or 3) There’s a Money In The Bank Cash in and Strowman or Owens walks away with the title making it the second time Roman has been screwed by the MITB briefcase. And everyone will probably boo for no reason. Personally, I want the Monday-After-Wrestlemania Roman Reigns who beat the Undertaker to end up with the strap and not only revel in the boos but finally be allowed to make them work for him. (Prediction: Roman Reigns)

CONSENSUS: 3-0 for Roman Reigns

Seth Rollins Comments On Brock Lesnar’s Current WWE Deal

1

Brock Lesnar has one of the best contracts in the history of professional wrestling.

Lesnar is currently the WWE Universal Champion on Monday Night RAW. He is likely the highest-paid Superstar on the roster and is only required to show up a handful of times a year. One of those appearances will happen this weekend. Lesnar will defend his Universal Title against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam on Sunday.

It’s expected to be one of Lesnar’s final appearances on WWE TV for quite some time. “The Beast” will return to the UFC for a fight with Daniel Cormier early next year. Because of this, everyone expects Lesnar to lose the Universal Title in Brooklyn.

There have been plenty of those within the industry who express displeasure for Lesnar’s part-time status. Also, there are some who credit Lesnar for being able to obtain such a great deal.

Rollins On Lesnar’s WWE Deal

Intercontinental Title challenger Seth Rollins is part of the latter. “The Architect” spoke to Sports Illustrated to promote his title match with Dolph Ziggler this weekend at SummerSlam:

“I think it’s more of the latter. From my perspective, I’m not mad at Brock Lesnar for getting a great deal. The guy got a fantastic deal. In a way, it’s a challenge, it’s inspiring. Part of being inspiring is the frustration that, “I don’t have Brock Lesnar’s deal.

“I’m not the Universal Champion for 600-and-some-odd days with 12 defenses or whatever it is. You can call it jealously, you can call it envy, but at the end of the day, as long as you don’t get ugly with it, it’s just motivation to work harder.

“Lesnar’s gonna do what Lesnar’s gonna do, whether he stays or goes. I think the cool part of SummerSlam is that animosity toward him has reached a boiling point. So I think coming into SummerSlam, you don’t know what’s going to happen.

“That’s what’s interesting to me. That’s the fun part of wrestling. The worst part of wrestling is when it’s super predictable. The best part is when it’s “Honestly, I don’t know.””

Natalya Pens Goodbye Letter To Jim “the Anvil” Neidhart

1

Natalya penned a letter to her father in the Calgary Sun recently. The wrestling world is mourning the loss of Jim “the Anvil” Neidhart, who passed away on August 13th.

“I really want to thank everyone for all of the love that they’ve shown to my dad and my whole family in the past week,” she begins her letter.

“Daddy — as I affectionately called him — and I were so similar in a lot of ways, and we shared that extra-special bond of professional wrestling and our careers.”

Natalya Remembers Jim “the Anvil” Neidhart

Natalya’s family is one of the most famous in wrestling history. Her father was involved in some of the most highly-praised tag-team matches along with Bret Hart and the British Bulldogs. Natalya mentioned in her letter that Anvil would text her all the time with wrestling advice.

“He would send me random text messages to work on my dropkicks and get at least two dropkicks in every match,” Natalya wrote. “Because that’s what Dynamite Kid would do.”

Natalya shares many heart-warming messages about the Anvil in her article. It certainly sounds like the Anvil was a wonderful father.

“I didn’t know it then, but my dad was my rock star. I’m glad that I got to follow in his footsteps to proudly carry the Neidhart name forward in WWE.”

Alexa Bliss Says Women’s Revolution “Deserves” Evolution PPV

0

The WWE’s Women’s Revolution has really made strides over the past several years.

In the recent years; WWE’s women have participated in their first-ever Hell In A Cell, Money In The Bank (MITB), Elimination Chamber and other gimmick matches. One woman that has played an integral part in the Women’s Revolution is Alexa Bliss.

Bliss has only been on the WWE’s main roster for two years. In her time on the main roster, she has won three RAW Women’s Titles. Bliss is also a two-time SmackDown Live Women’s Champion. She was also the first woman in WWE history to have held the RAW and SmackDown Women’s Titles.

Now, Bliss prepares for a massive RAW Women’s Title defense this weekend. She’ll defend her crown against former UFC women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam on Sunday. The action goes down live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

WWE Evolution

“Little Miss Bliss” recently spoke with Sports Illustrated to promote this weekend’s show. During the conversation, Bliss discussed the WWE’s upcoming Evolution PPV. The show goes down in October and will be WWE’s first-ever all-female PPV event.

Bliss says that WWE’s Women’s Evolution “deserves” the Evolution PPV:

“This is something our ‘Women’s Revolution’ deserves,” said Bliss. “The women on our roster and our legends have proven that it’s about time that women have the main focus. I was holding a title at the Royal Rumble, so I wasn’t able to compete in the first-ever women’s Royal Rumble.

“I’m very excited to get in the ring at Evolution, whether it’s against someone from NXT or someone coming back from the past. It’s the perfect addition to our evolution. It’s hard to step back while you’re doing it, but I was actually able to do that during the women’s Royal Rumble.

“I couldn’t step back at WrestleMania until after the match, but I was able to watch that women’s Royal Rumble from a fan’s perspective. It was really cool to think, ‘Wow, we’re in this amazing movement in WWE.’”

Justin Credible Issues Statement Following Arrest

1

Justin Credible (Peter Polaco) is out of jail and has issued a statement addressing his arrest last week for violating a protective order. The former ECW World Champion acknowledges his battle with addiction and his troubled marriage, vowing to never be the subject of negative headlines again.

In what he says will be his “one and only” statement on the matter, credible says he has worked hard over the past several months to battle his demon and keep his family strong. He has regained his sobriety and all he can do is take each day one at a time.

“Issues came about Monday night, and I’ve regretted it every minute since,” he said. “Their was no domestic violence that night, the only one to call the police was me. I was arrested because of an old protection order that was still in place from a previous incident. I will not make excuses for any of the actions that happened that night, but I promise to my fans, my friends and my family that the man Peter Polaco will never be a negative headline again, and the character Justin Credible still has many great moments left.”

Credible thanks his friends and fans who have stuck by him through his challenging times.

“Most importantly thank you to my lovely wife and kids who know that though I am not perfect my love for them is unconditional, and we will get through this fight together. Stay tuned guys because Chapter 2 of my life is not only going to be a hell of a lot better, but it’s going to be done right. 2018/2019 is going to be our year.”

Update On Pentagon Jr. & Fenix’s Futures

4

WWE is said to be interested in both Pentagon Jr. and Fenix. Previously, it had thought to be the case that the two brothers were locked into Lucha Underground contracts which would prevent them from going to WWE anytime soon.

In an update to this story, however, it appears both brothers are preparing to test the free agent market. According to a recent report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, their contracts include an opt-out clause following the 4th season. This would make them free agents 6-months after the last episode of the 4th season airs.

“They have told promoters they are working for that the deal would end with this season, as there was an opt-out,” Meltzer wrote. “If that’s the case, they would be free agents roughly six months after the last episode of the current season ends.”

Pentagon and Fenix have also reportedly told bookers that dates they had agreed to in 2019 are now in question.

Horsewomen Match Reportedly Planned For Survivor Series

15

It appears that WWE is finally ready to pull the trigger on a a 4-on-4 Horsewomen feud. As many fans are aware, Ronda Rousey, Shayna Bayzler, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir dubbed themselves the Four Horsewomen of mixed martial arts. WWE has its own unofficial Horsewomen group, comprised of Charlotte, Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks and Bayley.

With all four MMA Horsewomen under contract with WWE, it was just a matter of time before these two factions crossed paths. According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter,  WWE is planning for Ronda Rousey’s Horsewomen to battle the WWE Horsewomen at Survivor Series in November.

The two groups had a confrontation summer at a TV taping for the inaugural Mae Young Classic tournament. This was long before Ronda Rousey joined WWE. At the time, WWE planting the seed for a 4-on-4 feud seemed like wishful thinking at best. Much as changed since then.

A month before Survivor Series, WWE presents Evolution, the company’s first all-women’s pay-per-view event. Wrestlers from Raw, SmackDown NXT will participate in the historic show. This seems like a natural setting to jumpstart the hype to Survivor Series, but we’ll have to wait and see about that.

WWE Survivor Series takes place on Sunday, November 18th from Los Angeles, California at the STAPLES Center.

What do you think about a Horsewomen showdown at Survivor Series?

Ever since Dean Ambrose made his surprise return to WWE Programming with his new look, people have been speculating that the company may be planning to turn him heel at the SummerSlam PPV.

However, a latest development in the situation makes it seem like the company can hold off this turn for a while and pull the trigger on it sometime later instead.

AT&T Center is now advertising a tag match between Ambrose and his tag team partner Seth Rollins vs. Dolph Ziggler and his tag team partner Drew McIntyre for the upcoming Hell In A Cell event.

If this advertisement is true then it will mean that Ambrose will stick by Rollins’ side until  at least the PPV instead of turning on his Shield Brother in near future.

It’s worth mentioning here that the arena has previously also advertised matches such as Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns, Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton and Samoa Joe vs. WWE Champion AJ Styles for the upcoming show.

Now it’d be interesting to see which one of these advertised bouts actually take place and if any of them end up being contested inside the Hell In A Cell.

Hell In A Cell takes place on September 16 from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Elias Postpones Concert, New Surveillance Video Of Attack On Aleister Black

Elias Postpones Gramercy Theater Concert

We noted before how Elias was scheduled to hold a concert at the Gramercy Theater in New York on August 18th, just a day before the SummerSlam PPV.

The Drifter, however, announced on Twitter today that his concert at the arena dubbed ‘Walk With Elias’ is being postponed based on the decision from WWE Management:

https://twitter.com/IAmEliasWWE/status/1030206158932459521

There is no word yet on the reason behind this move from WWE but as the tweet reveals, the former NXT Star’s performance at the SummerSlam PPV is still on.

Elias is not scheduled for any match at the upcoming event so far, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Bobby Lashley ends up crashing his performance again and the two go on to have an impromptu match at the show.

New Surveillance Video Of Attack On Aleister Black

As we noted before, WWE decided to turn Aleister Black’s injury into a mystery attacker angle and they released a video which established multiple suspects for the same.

The company has now released a new footage from the security camera of the parking lot. The footage, however, doesn’t seem to add much to the storyline and at first glance doesn’t provide any new details:

No word yet on when Black will return from his injury or how this angle is expected to be concluded but we’ll keep you posted.

Daniel Bryan On Possibly Following Chris Jericho’s Footsteps Outside WWE

1

Daniel Bryan has been vocal about his frustration with the WWE creative team in recent interviews and there have been conflicting reports about his contractual status with the company. With Chris Jericho wrestling for various promotions around the world while remaining a WWE guy, many have wondered if Bryan could follow a similar path.

During a recent interview with YouTube personality TonyPizzaGuy, Daniel was asked if we can see him following Jericho in future and wrestling in indie circuit time to time while he continues to work for WWE. The former World Champion said that the wrestling world currently is not “open” enough for this. The good news is that Bryan has many potential dream matches awaiting for him in WWE.

“Yeah, I would like to see the wrestling world be a little bit more open and I think Chris Jericho has kind of done that in a sense. He is still in good terms with WWE but he wants to go do these things that are creatively fulfilling to him because he loves wrestling. But the way wrestling world is right now you can’t do that and luckily I have a ton of dream matches I wanna do in WWE.”

Earlier this week, Daniel Bryan told Sam Roberts there is a 90-plus-percent chance that he will re-sign with WWE. However, we can still dream about the prospect of him working with guys like Kazuchika Okada and Zack Sabre Jr.

WWE Teasing New Ring Gear For Dean Ambrose?

13

Dean Ambrose returned to WWE Programming this past Monday Night and one of the most notable things about the Lunatic Fringe’s return was his new look.

A latest Instagram post from WWE, however, make it seem like his hair style is not the only change the company has decided to make and Ambrose will also be using a new ring gear for his matches.

In the post as seen below, the former WWE Champion is seen without a shirt. The caption reading ‘new look, same lunatic’ has fans buzzing about Ambrose possibly abandoning his old ring gear in favor of this one:

Will Dean Ambrose Turn Heel?

Dean Ambrose suffered a triceps injury back in December last year. After he underwent a surgery, it was reported that the former SmackDown Star will be out of action for 9 months.

Ambrose made his surprise return to WWE Programming on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw. Seth Rollins called him out and then they both attacked the duo of Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre.

Dean’s new look has a lot of people speculating that the company might be planning to turn him heel and the most likely destination for it looks to be the SummerSlam PPV.

Though whether or not the former Shield Member actually turns into a villain will be revealed at the PPV this Sunday.

Matt Hardy Taking Extended Time Off Due To Injuries

11

Matt Hardy will be taking time off to deal with various injuries, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Hardy is expected to be out for a while. The report states, “a decision will be made as far as whether he can return and in what type of a schedule or capacity.”

The triple threat match on Monday’s Raw with The B Team vs. Hardy & Wyatt vs. The Revival was the beginning of the end of the Matt Hardy & Bray Wyatt tag team. Over the weekend, Matt Hardy tweeted farewell to Wyatt.

For the past several weeks, there have been reports that Matt Hardy is dealing with injuries. On Twitter, he has been posting retrospective photos from throughout his career. The general tone seems like Hardy is saying goodbye.

On August 1st, he wrote a message that had some fans wondering if he was retiring. “To all that supported me in the independents & OMEGA.. To the fans of Team Xtreme.. To the Mattitude Followers.. To the OUTSPOKEN fans who brought me back in 2005.. To the people who backed me when I was REINCARNATED in pro wrestling.. To the #WOKEN Warriors.. THANK YOU.”

The Wrestling Observer notes that Hardy has been “shadowing” producers backstage. This is being viewed as a possible role for Matt Hardy when his in-ring career winds down.

Daniel Bryan: “It’s Very Likely I’ll Re-Sign With WWE”

12

Daniel Bryan says he will almost certainly sign a new contract with WWE in the near future. The former WWE Champion appeared on the Sam Roberts Wrestling podcast this week to promote SummerSlam. It has been widely reported that his contract is expiring in September, which has fueled speculation about what would be next for him.

During their discussion, Sam Roberts addressed the topic of Bryan’s future with the company. The upcoming WWE 2K19 video game features a Daniel Bryan Showcase mode. Since the game is being released in October, Roberts sees this as a positive sign regarding his future.

Daniel Bryan was asked point blank what the chances are that he will re-sign with WWE. He gave an answer that will please WWE fans across the world. “I think at this point it would be 90-plus percent,” Bryan said. “It’s very likely I’ll re-sign with WWE.”

He continued, “The reality is that’s the probability. I have not re-signed yet but it could happen as soon as the end of this week or it could be a couple more weeks. It’s very likely.”

Bryan explained that a major factor of his negotiations with WWE is his schedule. At this stage of his career, he has “no interest” in working 200+ dates a year. Thankfully, WWE has been very understanding in that respect. Ideally, he would like to work 50-100 matches per year. He sounds confident they will come to terms.

Earlier this year, Daniel Bryan was medically cleared to return to action after several years on the sidelines. He stated in multiple interviews that he would wrestle elsewhere if WWE did not give him the green light to wrestle again. The prospect of Daniel Bryan joining another promotion such as New Japan Pro Wrestling was intriguing. For now, fans hoping to see a dream match like Daniel Bryan vs. Kenny Omega will have to settle for a simulated battle in WWE 2K19.

Daniel Bryan will face The Miz this Sunday at WWE SummerSlam.

Billy Corgan Claims He Was ‘Borderline Criminally’ Deceived In TNA

4

Despite the case being resolved back in 2016, Billy Corgan’s issues with IMPACT Wrestling still leave a sour taste in his mouth.

Corgan sued IMPACT Wrestling for unpaid loans of up to $1.8 million. The company failed to repay Corgan in a timely manner. Corgan became president of IMPACT in August of 2016 after brining in some much-needed money to the company.

Borderline Criminal

Eventually, IMPACT decided to link up with Anthem Sports instead for their financial needs. Corgan tells Busted Open what happened to him was “borderline criminal”:

“The numbers are out there,” Corgan said. “I had put $1.8 million of my own cash into the company. There are literally where if I didn’t put the money in the company would have been shut down. There would be no Impact Wrestling today if I didn’t write a check on that particular day.

“What was weird to me was not only that I was being deceived in my estimation fraudulently, you know borderline criminal. In fact, I even talked to authorities whether there was criminality involved and there were differing opinions about actual criminality.

“Then once it went into more of a legal process because that was advised by attorneys the most likely way to recover my money which I ultimately did. What was even more shocking was watching people that you had considered only months before literally inventing stories out of whole cloth.

“I mean literally inventing situations and scenarios that didn’t happen. Then you start getting into like, ‘wow, I’m in a bad Vince Russo wrestling angle here, like, did Vince book this s–t?’ It was like ‘you’ve got to be kidding me,’ it was wacky world.”

Triple H Responds To WWE Main Roster Criticisms

25

Triple H was recently a part of a media conference call to promote this weekend’s SummerSlam and NXT TakeOver events.

“The Game” answered several WWE-related questions. One being in regards to the reception of WWE’s current main roster compared to NXT. A caller pointed out to Triple H that he’s “burned out” by the main roster.

Everybody Has An Opinion

He then claimed he’s more excited for NXT TakeOver this weekend and isn’t really looking forward to SummerSlam. Triple H was then asked if he would like to run the main roster the same way he does NXT:

“I also wish I could fly and breath underwater. Dude, I wasn’t sure if you were going to ask me a question or you were making a statement about your displeasure. Everybody has opinions on things and positive/negative that’s the beauty in what we do and people are free to express those opinions.

“I’m happy that you like NXT and I’m happy you’re looking forward to that show. You know some people dislike some things, there are other people who dislike what we do in NXT and there are people that like what we do there.

“Everybody’s got an opinion and the great thing for us is no matter what it is, positive/negative, we don’t have a shy fan base that is afraid to let us know. They will let us know and whether we decide to take that message immediately or whether it takes us a little bit to hear it, eventually we hear you.

“So you know, it is what it is but if people dislike something or like something that’s what their voice is for and we encourage that for sure.”

3

AJ Styles has broken a record during his current reign as WWE Champion.

Back on a November episode of SmackDown Live, “The Phenomenal One” defeated Jinder Mahal to capture the title. He has reigned as “The Champ That Runs The Camp” on Tuesday nights ever since.

Styles has successfully defended his title in various matches against the likes of Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev. He’s currently preparing for yet another title defense, this time against Samoa Joe at SummerSlam this weekend on pay-per-view (PPV).

Alexa Bliss Discusses Turning Point For Her Character, Ronda Rousey’s WWE Transition

1

Alexa Bliss has reflected on when she believes was the turning point for her character as she prepares for the biggest match thus far in her career with the WWE.

The WWE RAW Women’s Champion recently spoke with Bleacher Report to promote the upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view event. Bliss noted that she exactly knows when that moment was.

Turning Point

She joked that it was the segment with Bayley that was titled “This Is Your Life” and noted that she gets a lot of flak for that segment. Switching to serious gears, she pinpointed that it was when she had that feeling.

“When I had the Raw Women’s Championship, I made the crowd chant, “You deserve it!” I was told that was one of my better “interacting with the crowd” promos. And I was told that by Paul Heyman, who told me that I lured the [audience] in and took them on a ride.”

SummerSlam

Bliss is slated to defend her title against Ronda Rousey at this upcoming pay-per-view event and was asked how she thinks Rousey is making the transition from MMA to WWE. She stated that Rousey is coming to WWE at such a great time because they’re a big family here, and try to help everyone succeed.

“She has passion for it, which is awesome, and she respects the business, which is awesome. Everyone has been helping her and walking her through everything. Because it’s a very big challenge to come into this, go straight on the road and have your every move televised. I mean, her first match was at WrestleMania. Her second match was on Money in the Bank.”

She added that they’re all high-profile matches and that Rousey wants to learn. Thus, she thinks that at the end of the day, it takes two people to make a good match and that it will be great to see how Rousey is a year from now.

Becky Lynch Talks Not Being In Title Scene, SummerSlam Opportunity

0

Becky Lynch plans to take full advantage of being in the title scene once again after looking from the outside in for two years.

The former WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion spoke with The New York Post to promote the upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view event where she will face SmackDown Women’s Champion Carmell and Charlotte in a triple threat match this Sunday.

Not Being In The Title Scene

Lynch admitted that not being in the title picture was incredibly frustrating as she felt that she was almost there but never really fully settling into it.

“Yeah, I’ve been the champion before, but it was a hiccup and then it’s been nearly two years getting back to it and not even having a title match in a year and a half. This is huge for me. It really has been my whole journey.”

Her Title Match At SummerSlam

Lynch stated that getting this chance at SummerSlam is a perfect example of you want to fight for what you want but sometimes you got to look over your shoulder because people are trying to take you down. She thinks that it’s perfect for everything that her character has gone through then you add in the fact that you have her best friend, Flair, wanting to be champion almost on the cusp of having everything that she ever wanted.

“But then knowing there could end up being bad blood with her best friend. And then [I’ll be] reigning with the title for another however many years until I retire,” Lynch said.

Daniel Bryan Reflects On Long Standing Rivalry With The Miz Heading Into WWE SummerSlam

2

Daniel Bryan is gearing up for his match against The Miz as they will finally do battle on a big stage for the first time in years.

The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion spoke with GameSpot.com to promote the upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view event. This interview was purely dedicated to his feud with The Miz.

Breaking Point

When asked when he thought was the breaking point between him and The Miz. Bryan noted that they’re polar opposites and do have a legitimate dislike of each other as some people backstage know that there’s always been that tension. He believes the breaking point where people actually care about is Talking Smack episode then it escalated from there.

Miz starting to do my moves, really rubbing it in my face in a way that at the time nobody thought I was gonna get cleared again. So, there was no payoff to this. It’s just heat, for heat, for heat’s sake. So, I think that’s where everything–where the current incarnation, where people are really excited to see that–I think that’s where that comes from.”

Fan Reaction

Bryan touched upon when he felt the reaction from the fans of WWE to that Talking Smack segment. The former SmackDown Live GM noted that he was hoping that it would inspire WWE officials to look at his case to be cleared again more closely as he thought if they would clear him then maybe they could headline WrestleMania. However, that hope slowly faded.

“No. That’s what I was thinking. I was thinking in terms of like, “Wow, this could really benefit.” And [WWE creative] started using it a little bit on the show, and then what happened is people really wanted to see the match, and then they backed off of it because they had no plans of doing the match. So, that’s when I realized like, “Oh, man. They’re not gonna budge here.”
