Details On WWE SmackDown 1,000

6

Back in January, WWE celebrated 25 years of its weekly flagship television series, Monday Night Raw. This fall, the company’s SmackDown Live has a big milestone of its own.

The 1,000th episode of WWE SmackDown Live will air on Tuesday, October 16th from Washington, DC. This will air 10 days after WWE’s big Super ShowDown stadium show from Australia.

It should come as no surprise that plans are already underway to make SmackDown Live 1,000 a major event. Details are scarce at this time, but a report at PWInsider notes that company officials are working on ideas to ensure this SmackDown 1,000 is as significant a show as RAW 25 was. Expect to see a celebration of SmackDown’s rich history, dating back to the height of the Attitude Era.

WWE SmackDown premiered on broadcast television almost 20 year ago on April 29, 1999. The show has switched days and networks several times since.

SmackDown Live airs each Tuesday night on the USA Network and will remain there until next October, when it moves to Friday nights on the FOX broadcast channel. Any talk of SmackDown being WWE’s “B show” will be put to rest by then, if it hasn’t already. FOX is reportedly shelling out $1 billion over 5 years for the television rights to SmackDown.

Moose Injured At Slammiversary? Gives Update On Future

Moose unsuccessfully challenged Austin Aries for the Impact World Championship Sunday night at Slammiversary. The Champion had said he was going to force Moose into his 3rd career during the match, football and pro-wrestling having been his first two.

According to recent comments made by Moose, Aries may actually have knocked Moose out of wrestling.

https://twitter.com/TheMooseNation/status/1021489029391503360

“Gave it my All and came up Short,” Moose Tweeted. “Probably time to reconsider if I still want to do this for a living. Time to make some career and Life Decisions. Thank you All”

Moose Injured At Slammiversary

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Moose is suffering from vertigo today. He previously sent out a now-deleted Tweet which simply read “CTE”, leading many to believe he had suffered a concussion in the match.

Most of the build-up towards Moose vs Austin Aries was done through sit-down interviews. Aries would claim Moose is a failed football player whereas Moose would say he gave up football to chase his wrestling dream.

Moose on Austin Aries

“Aries is known for his trash talk and I’m not gonna go there with him,” Moose said in the weeks leading up to the match. “I mean he can believe whatever he believes, I know what’s true and there’s that.”

“He’s been a good champion,” Moose admitted. “I mean guess so, he’s been a decent champion. I have a lot of respect for Aries. He is the Belt Collector, he does carry all the titles from a lot of independent promotions around. I mean, he’s a veteran of the game.”

“I could sit here and list a bunch of things, accomplishments Aries has had. Or you could Wikipedia it. I know what my game plan is for Sunday and what I need to do to fulfill my game plan to come home with the Impact World Championship.”

10

The July 23rd, 2018 episode of WWE RAW aired live from the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, OH. In addition to the takeaways below, Mickie James defeated Natalya tonight and Mojo Rawley demolished Tyler Breeze once again.  Here are 8 takeaways from this week’s show:

The First Women’s WWE PPV Will Air On October 28th

This week’s episode of RAW kicked off with Vince McMahon in the middle of the ring as the locker room was on the entrance ramp. Vince introduced Triple H and Stephanie McMahon down to the ring for a historic announcement.

Stephanie and Triple H had a brief exchange with RAW GM Kurt Angle on the entrance ramp before getting into the ring with Vince. Triple H thanked the Superstars and said that nights like tonight happen because of all of them. Triple H stated that a bond is formed when you get in a WWE right and put your trust in someone else’s hands and that bond has never been stronger than it is today.

Triple H asked all the female Superstars to step forward on the stage. He added that the men behind them and the WWE Universe supports them and the crowd cheered. Triple H got choked up a bit and congratulated them for stealing the show again and again. Stephanie said these moments don’t just happen because of opportunity, they happened because all of the crowd deem it important.

Stephanie brought up the #GiveDivasAChance hashtag and how it led to all of this. Stephanie then announced that on October 28th, over 50 women will participate in an event called Evolution and it will be the first-ever women’s PPV. The RAW Women’s Championship, SmackDown Women’s Championship and NXT Women’s Championship will be defended at the event. The finals of the Mae Young Classic will also air during the show.

the b team raw 7 9

The B-Team defended their RAW Tag Team Championships against Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy tonight on RAW. Bray Wyatt and Bo Dallas started off the match. Wyatt threw Bo into the corner and then leveled him with a Clothesline as RAW went to a commercial break.

When RAW returned, Bo Dallas was in control and had Bray in a Chin Lock. Bray broke the hold and once again leveled Bo Dallas with a Clothesline. Matt Hardy leaned over the ropes and tagged in as Axel tagged in at the same time.

Hardy went right after Axel and connected with a shoulder tackle. Matt bounced Axel’s face off of every turnbuckle and then hit a Clothesline in the corner. Hardy followed it up with the Side Effect for a two count.

Opinion: RAW’s tag division is a total bore and needs something drastic to happen to make it interesting once again.

Elias came down to the entrance ramp to talk about his debut album that was released earlier today. He was immediately interrupted by Strowman and Braun marched his way to the ring holding the MITB briefcase.

Strowman brought up Roman Reigns and Lashley facing each other tonight in a #1 contender’s match. Braun said that it doesn’t matter if it is Roman Reigns, Bobby Lashley or Brock Lesnar because sooner or later a monster is going to come calling.

Braun raised the MITB briefcase and asked the WWE Universe if they wanted him to be the new Universal Champion. The crowd cheered but then Kevin Owens interrupted and came down to the entrance ramp.

Owens said that his son suggested that he befriend Strowman and that Braun crushed his dream the same time he crushed his spine at Extreme Rules. Owens stated that his kids are now scared because they see the pain on his face with every step he takes.

Owens stated that Strowman tried to take everything away from him and vowed to take everything away from Braun. Owens shouted that he won the Steel Cage Match at Extreme Rules and said that Strowman’s problems have only just begun.

Constable Corbin joined the party and called Strowman’s actions “morally reprehensible” at Extreme Rules. Corbin added that he found someone that can teach Strowman how to control his temper and Jinder Mahal came out from backstage.

Mahal and Sunil Singh got in the ring with Strowman as the crowd booed. Jinder wanted to help Braun find his calm and nirvana. Mahal announced that Stephanie McMahon and Constable Corbin have personally appointed Jinder in assisting in Braun’s journey to find inner peace.

Strowman stated that he has a mantra of his own and instructed Sunil to come towards him. Braun handed Sunil the microphone and asked everyone to close their eyes. Strowman asked everyone to repeat “get these hands!” and the crowd chanted along.

Strowman then booted Mahal in the face and grabbed Sunil as he tried to escape. Strowman then planted Sunil with a Running Powerslam as Jinder retreated up the entrance ramp.

Ziggler tagged in and walked right into an overhead kick from Balor. Seth pleaded for the tag in the corner as Balor slowly made his way back up. McIntyre tagged in and prevented Balor from tagging in Rollins for a moment.

Balor escaped and tagged in Seth Rollins. Seth knocked McIntyre out of the ring and followed it up with a Suicide Dive. Rollins then launched Ziggler into the barricade and then hit McIntyre with a Clothesline in the ring. Rollins climbed up to the second rope and connected with a Blockbuster on McIntyre for a near fall.

Roman Reigns Will Face Brock Lesnar At WWE SummerSlam

Reigns RAW 7 23

After being interrupted all night during RAW, Elias finally got a chance to perform a song from his debut album. Elias gave a shoutout to the band O.A.R. that was sitting in the front row and then referred to himself as the biggest musical act on the planet. Elias strummed his guitar and started to perform a song from his album. He stopped and said that he wasn’t feeling the vibe from Cincinnati tonight.

Elias then said that the crowd was the grossest collection of humans that he has ever seen in his life. Lashley interrupted and made his way down to the ring. Reigns and Lashley battled in the main event of RAW. The winner of the match would face Brock Lesnar at WWE SummerSlam for the Universal Championship.

Reigns started off the match in control and Clotheslined Lashley out of the ring. Roman followed him out there and bounced Bobby’s head off the barricade. The action returned to the ring and Lashley connected with a Clothesline that knocked Roman out of the ring this time.

Roman punched Lashley in the face on the apron and then went for a Drive-By. Lashley caught Reigns in midair and planted him with a Belly to Belly Suplex on the floor outside the ring as RAW went to a commercial break.

When RAW returned, Reigns and Lashley connected with a Clothesline at the same time and both Superstars fell to the canvas. Both Superstars got up and traded shots. Lashley got the upper-hand with a Clothesline and followed it up with a Belly to Belly Throw that sent Reigns flying across the ring.

Lashley drove his shoulder into Roman’s midsection in the corner of the ring. Reigns lifted Lashley onto his shoulders but Lashley was able to escape to the ring apron. Reigns ran towards him but Bobby ready and hit Roman with a Clothesline.

Roman battled back and hit a Leg Drop for a two count. Roman geared up in the corner and went for the Superman Punch but Lashley caught him in a Full Nelson. Roman backed Lashley to the corner and broke free with a few elbows to Bobby’s face.

Lashley charged at Reigns but Roman got out of the way and Lashley slammed into the ring post. Lashley connected with a Powerslam out of nowhere and went for the cover but Roman kicked out at two.

Lashley set up for the Spear in the corner of the ring and waited for Roman to get to his feet. Lashley went for a Spear but Reigns countered into a knee to Bobby’s face for a two count. Reigns followed it up with a Superman Punch for another near fall.

Lashley connected with a Spear and went for the cover but Reigns somehow was able to kick out at the last second. Lashley set up for a Spear once again but Reigns hit a Superman Punch out of nowhere. Reigns went for the Spear but Lashley blocked it with a knee to the face. Roman bounced off the ropes and connected with the Spear for the pinfall victory. Roman Reigns will now battle Brock Lesnar once again at SummerSlam for the Universal Championship. Reigns and Lashley shook hands after the match.

Opinion: Lashley and Reigns had a much better match at Extreme Rules. Everyone expected Reigns to win tonight and challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship. I find it impossible to get excited about another Reigns and Lesnar match. The only positive is that if Reigns wins, the Universal Championship will be on RAW every week.

SummerSlam: Lesnar vs. Reigns Confirmed

21

The long, winding road to determining Brock Lesnar’s SummerSlam has arrived at a familiar destination. Roman Reigns defeated Bobby Lashley in the main event of Monday’s WWE Raw from Cincinnati, Ohio to become #1 contender to WWE’s illusive Universal Champion.

Brock Lesnar will make a rare WWE television appearance next Monday night to confront his SummerSlam challenger. It will be interesting to see how fans react to Lesnar and Reigns this time around. It’s been a favorite past time of WWE fans to boo Roman Reigns at every turn, but WWE has been playing up that Lesnar is an absentee Champion – and that’s turned ugly in the past (see: WrestleMania XX).

With Brock Lesnar’s WWE contract nearing its conclusion, the 41-year-old is already back in the USADA drug testing pool ahead of his expected return to UFC in 2019.

In addition to next week’s Raw and his upcoming match against Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar is advertised for the August 20th episode of Raw from Brooklyn, the night after SummerSlam. This could be Lesnar’s final WWE appearance.

Ronda Rousey & Charlotte Flair Among Others To React To WWE Evolution Event

4

Ronda Rousey and former WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair were among several superstars to react to the big news that was made official on Monday night.

That announcement was WWE Evolution, which is an all-women’s exclusive pay-per-view event that will take place on Sunday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. ET from NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in New York.

The event will stream live on WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view featuring Women’s Championship Matches from Monday Night RAW, SmackDown Live, NXT and NXT UK, as well as the finals of the all-women’s tournament, Mae Young Classic 2018.

Rousey, Flair, RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss, Sasha Banks, SmackDown Women’s Champion Carmella, Nia Jax, and Asuka, as well as WWE Hall of Famers and Legends Trish Stratus and Lita, are advertised to appear at this show.

Triple H, Stephanie McMahon and others have sounded off on the announcement, which you can see here:

“Because of all of you, men and women using your voices for change, we are able to provide the platform to show the world that women can do anything and be anything they want to be,” McMahon said on Raw. “Because of all of you, we are able to stand here and make another first-ever announcement. On October 28, over 50 women, then, now and forever, will participate in an event called Evolution, and that event — I am privileged to announce — will be the first-ever all-women’s pay-per-view.”

“Three years ago, our fans demanded a change with the hashtag, #GiveDivasAChance, and an evolution started,” said Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE Executive Vice President, Talent, Live Events & Creative. “Since that time, our female Superstars have overdelivered in every opportunity presented to them, and I expect nothing different during our first-ever all-women’s pay-per-view event.”

Updated Card For WWE SummerSlam 2018

2

Following Monday’s edition of WWE RAW from Cincinnati, Ohio, the card for next month’s SummerSlam pay-per-view is starting to take shape.

As seen on RAW, there was a backstage segment with Baron Corbin, Kevin Owens, Kurt Angle and Stephanie McMahon where Owens begged for another match with Strowman. This led to the announcement with a stipulation being made as it will be Owens taking on Braun Strowman and if Owens wins this match then he gets Strowman’s Money in the Bank contract that guarantees him a world title match anytime within the next year.

This marked Owens’ first appearance on the flagship show of the company since the WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view event in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the PPG Paints Arena on the WWE Network earlier this month that saw Owens beat Strowman in a steel cage match once Strowman tossed him off the top of the cage.

WWE Evolution All-Women’s PPV Event Announced

17

WWE was teasing a historic announcement for Monday’s RAW from Cincinnati, Ohio and they delivered. Vince McMahon, Triple H and Stephanie were on hand to announce WWE’s first-ever all-women’s pay-per-view event titled, WWE Evolution.

WWE Evolution will take place on Sunday, October 28th from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, New York. This event will see 50 women from WWE’s past, present and future (WWE, NXT and legends).

Michael Cole noted after the announcement that the RAW, SmackDown, and NXT Women’s Titles will be on the line as well as the finals of the 2018 Mae Young Classic Tournament at this show.

Last week when this idea was rumored, it was reported that this show is apparently being planned due to the lack of female stars at the Greatest Royal Rumble event in April and that it could be a Network Special similar to the show at Saudi Arabia.

Stephanie had not been seen on RAW since the night after WrestleMania 34 in April where she was attacked by Ronda Rousey following their mixed tag team match at the biggest event of the year for the WWE.

Braun Strowman On Feuding With Roman Reigns, Potential In Lars Sullivan, More

1

Despite the fact that Braun Strowman is Mr. Money in the Bank, that doesn’t mean that he’s done with Roman Reigns.

Strowman recently spoke with Riju Dasgupta for Sportskeeda to talk about various topics including working and feuding with Reigns on WWE television. This is where Strowman stated that he’ll never be finished with Reigns but rather giving him a break for now.

He had a pretty rough 2017 when I started the ‘Get These Hands’ movement. He was a very literal punching bag for me. I’m giving him a little break right now.”

Strowman also commented on the comparisons he gets to Lars Sullivan, who is currently working in the NXT brand. The RAW star noted that he’s heard of the NXT star but doesn’t know a whole lot about him and that he sees potential in him.

He’s got a little mean streak and I like that. And I’m always looking for somebody to get in there with and ‘get these hands’. So, if he wants me, come and get ’em!”

Finally, Strowman commented on how he could cash in his Money in the Bank contract as it will be difficult to do so with WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar not on television each week.

“You know, I get asked that a lot. I might just have to jump on a horse or whatever and find him in the woods of Canada or wherever he’s living. So, yeah. So, fingers crossed, we cross paths in the airport or something. I’ll fight him in the middle of Minneapolis or something.”

Brian Cage On Who Fans Want To See Brock Lesnar Feud With Next

1

Brian Cage claims to know which feud that fans want to see involving Brock Lesnar next on WWE television.

Cage, who won the Impact Wrestling X-Division Title at Sunday’s (July 22, 2018) Slammiversary pay-per-view event, was recently interviewed by The Sports Daily to talk about various topics including working with Bobby Lashley in his last match in Impact Wrestling before the former ECW Champion made his return to the WWE.

Cage stated that it was a huge honor and was awesome of him to do that for him as he enjoyed working with Lashley and wishes that they would’ve had a slower build-up to their match but he understands the time constraints. He noted that it was a great feud and praised Lashley for being a great athlete.

“They gave him a big push over Reigns, which was awesome, I congratulated him on that. But everyone wants to see [Brock] Lesnar and Lashley. I don’t think we need Lesnar and Roman Reigns for the 16th time.”

Cage continued by stating, “He has that super X-Factor, when it comes to pay-per-view buys, I think he’s only second to Conor McGregor. Even (Ronda) Rousey ain’t drawing the numbers Lesnar is. I think he adds legitimacy both to WWE performers also to any pro wrestlers and MMA. I like his work, as far as in the ring.”

Cage added that Lashley’s got a system that’s actually pretty cut and dry but he still loves his matches and would love to work with him again.

Roman Reigns vs. Bobby Lashley to determine new #1 contender for Universal Title is slated to headline this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW to find out who will be facing Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.

Back in the ring, Rollins continues the offense on Ziggler. Drew and Balor gets the tag, and Balor turns things around. The fight spills out to ringside and Drew drops Balor across the ring barricade. Back in the ring, Balor fights back and Rollins finally gets the hot tag. Balor and Ziggler go at it until Rollins kicks Ziggler away. McIntyre comes back with a reverse Alabama slam on Rollins for a two count. Winners: Seth Rollins & Finn Balor

– Bobby Lashley does an interview backstage about having to beat Roman Reigns again tonight. Lashley says he’s looking past Reigns to Lesnar, and he’s going to look right in Lesnar’s face and tell him he’s coming for him at SummerSlam.

– The broadcast team sends us to a video package looking at the history of the feud between Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley, and their road to facing Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title.

– Elias is out to the stage again to promote his album, but he quickly gets interrupted by Kurt Angle. Angle says he’s not here to interrupt, but, he wanted to tell Elias the floor is his and he can do his song, because these people want to hear a song from his debut album. Kurt tells Elias the floor is his, and Elias thanks him. Elias says his music will heal your soul and he wants to give a shout out to O.A.R. sitting at ringside. Elias starts to sing, but then stops and trashes the crowd for being the grosses collection of humans he’s seen. Bobby Lashley makes his entrance and interrupts now to come out for his match.

– Finn Balor vs. Baron Corbin; and Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre are announced for next week. Brock Lesnar is also advertised for next week’s show.

Bobby Lashley vs. Roman Reigns: The opening bell sounds and Reigns backs Lashley into the corner early on. They run the ropes and Reigns hits a flying clothesline, and then he knocks Lashley outside. They briefly fight around ringside before Reigns takes things back in the ring. Lashley fights back with some clothslines of his own and then he knocks Reigns outside, and Reigns takes a breather on the floor. Lashley goes outside and Reigns hits an uppercut on him, but Lashley fires back with a belly to belly overhead suplex on a floor. Back in the ring, Reigns tries to fight back but Lashley shuts him down with a spinebuster. Reigns gets to his feet and they trade punches, then they hit a double clothesline and both men are down. They fight on the apron and Reigns hits a leg drop for a two count. Reigns looks for the Superman punch, but Lashley dodges it and puts him in a Full Nelson hold. Lashley wrestles Reigns down to the mat but Reigns fights out. Reigns misses a shot and Lashley drops him, and Lashley measures up for a spear. Lashley misses and Reigns comes back with a kick for a two count. Reigns follows up with a Superman punch for another two count. Lashley rolls outside for a breather as Reigns stalks him around the ring. Reigns leaps off the ring steps for a Superman punch but misses. Lashley throws Reigns back in the ring and follos up with a big spear for the two count.

WWE Files Trademark Application For Starrcade

5

WWE filed a trademark application for the phrase STARRCADE last week, July 17, 2018. According to the United States’ Patent & Trademark office, the application will be assigned to an examining attorney approximately 3 months after filing date.

The proposed use of the Starrcade trademark would cover: “Entertainment services, namely, the production and exhibition of professional wrestling events; providing wrestling news and wrestling information via the Internet, a global computer network or a mobile app” and more.

WWE Starrcade

Starrcade was created by Jim Crockett Promotions back in 1983 and was the flagship annual pay-per-view of World Championship Wrestling (WCW) until 2000. WWE revived the Starrcade name last December for a special live event from Greensboro, NC.

WWE Starrcade 2017 featured special appearances from Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Arn Anderson and Goldust competing as “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes. The event featured two steel cage matches as the double main event, with Charlotte retaining the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Natalya and AJ Styles retaining the WWE Championship against Jinder Mahal.

With rumors of an all-women’s pay-per-view event taking place later this year, it will be interesting to see if WWE utilizes the Starrcade name for that show. We could get an official word on the all-women’s show later tonight when Raw General Manager Stephanie McMahon delivers her ‘historic’ announcement.

What do you think about the possibility of WWE Starrcade being an all-women’s pay-per-view event ?

Matt Riddle Rumored To Be WWE Bound

10

Evolve Champion Matt Riddle is rumored to be WWE bound. The “Super King of Bros” had been scheduled to work multiple dates in Dublin, Ireland for Over The Top Wrestling during SummerSlam weekend, but pulled out due to a ‘scheduling conflict.’

On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Live, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez said they don’t know for sure what’s in store for Riddle, but he’s probably headed to WWE. Alvarez addressed a fan asking about Matt Riddle and expressed a similar sentiment.

Both New Japan Pro Wrestling and WWE have been interested in Riddle, but New Japan would only use him for limited dates in the United States, which wouldn’t be enough to sign him.

Riddle has been the Evolve Champion since Evolve 102 back on April 5th when he defeated Zack Sabre Jr., who had been champion for over a year. His next Evolve title defense takes place on Saturday, August 4th when he defends against Shane Strickland in a Hardcore Rules match from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA.

Having canceled scheduled appearances during SummerSlam weekend, it would not be entirely unexpected to see Matt sitting ringside during NXT Takeover: Brooklyn at the Barclays Center. Should he sign with WWE and join NXT, Riddle would be amongst an absolutely stacked roster that includes Adam Cole, Aleister Black, Ricochet, EC3, Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa, Velveteen Dream and Keith Lee.

Discussion: Are you familiar with Matt Riddle’s work? If so, do you think Matt Riddle would be a good addition to NXT?

Taz Reveals Which Suplex He Came Up With The Name For

3

Former WWE Hardcore Champion and commentator Taz recently took to his radio show, The Taz Show, and discussed several professional wrestling topics. Taz was famous for his suplexes inside the ring. He noted how he never used the German Suplex in ECW because everyone else was.

Taz said he could hit a variety of Suplexes on opponents such as Christian and Sabu. He also credited himself with naming the “T-Bone Suplex”:

“That’s what I named it,” said Taz. “Whatever people called it, but that’s what I called it. I kinda named it. And [for] simple reasons; it looked like a T, right? I was grabbing you like a T, I was grabbing between your legs and around your waist, it was like a T motion from the side.

“And I would turn you in the air where I was the base of the T and you were the top part, the horizontal part of the T. And that’s why I called it a T-bone, and everybody loves a T-bone steak. Of course you gotta put over T-bone steak, right? So, that’s where that came from.”

The Big Plans WWE Had For Dolph Ziggler Before He Joined The Spirit Squad

9

As we’ve previously noted, WWE Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler was recently interviewed on former WWE ring announcer Lilian Garcia’s podcast, Chasing Glory. During their conversation, Ziggler’s run as a member of The Spirit Squad came up.

Ziggler noted that just before getting the call up to the main roster, and eventually being made part of the plans for The Spirit Squad, he was pitched an idea of being the protegee of Kurt Angle thanks to his amateur wrestling background:

“A little before I got called up to do the Spirit Squad I was told by the in-between when you’re hearing you’re gonna get called up to WWE, the main roster. They were like, ‘hey they really like that you have an amateur wrestling background’ and I had my crew cut, my military haircut.

“They go, ‘it’s great that you have no tattoos, we’re kinda looking at you as Kurt Angle’s protegee or something.’ If Kurt Angle hadn’t won that gold medal and came to WWE I might not have even got a chance. But because he was so good and he did so well when he got here they’re like, ‘maybe we can give some smaller guys a try and because of him I got a chance to work here.

“And they go, hey maybe we consider you as his protegee and I go, ‘what? This is the craziest thing ever!’ Cut to four weeks later and I’m a cheerleader with four other guys, but still the thought was there that maybe that was gonna happen.”

Kurt Angle On If He Prefers Brock Lesnar In WWE Or UFC

1

WWE Hall Of Famer and Monday Night RAW General Manager Kurt Angle recently did another Q&A on his Facebook page. He took various questions from the WWE Universe, one of them asking for his thoughts on Brock Lesnar’s upcoming UFC fight.

“The Beast” returned to the mixed martial arts (MMA) world at UFC 226 when he got into the Octagon and confronted newly-crowned UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier. The pair got into a shoving match and UFC President Dana White later announced Cormier vs. Lesnar would be the next fight for the heavyweight strap.

Angle said that he expects a great fight between the pair “if it happens,” but admitted he prefers seeing Lesnar full-time in WWE:

“Could be a great fight if it happens. I’d prefer Brock full time in WWE though.”

Steve Austin Believes Managers Should Still Have A Presence In Pro Wrestling

5

They don’t make managers in professional wrestling anymore like they used to. Back in the day the pro wrestling world featured managers such as Bobby Heenan, Jimmy Hart, Paul Heyman, Jim Cornette and Paul Bearer.

Of course only one of those men, Paul Heyman, is still an active manager today. This was something WWE Hall Of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin discussed on the latest episode of his podcast, The Steve Austin Show, with MLW’s Court Bauer.

“The Texas Rattlesnake” noted that you don’t really see managers anymore in professional wrestling. Austin argued that they are the “salt and pepper” to a great Superstar:

“You just don’t see [managers] anymore,” said Austin. “To me, they were the salt and pepper on a great steak. Such colorful, flamboyant personalities, either that mouthpiece, or that dressing, or whatever it needs to be to enhance that talent further, or be the crutch, or be an addition to, and just make that person a superstar.

“The way I grew up watching wrestling when I was seven or eight years old, and going through the territories, and having my share of managers. Whether I liked them or not, or wanted them to be with me, I learned a lot from them. To me, they’re part of the landscape that is pro wrestling.”

WWE SmackDown Live 1000 Episode Date, Summer Rae’s New Look (Photo)

1

WWE SmackDown Live 1000 Episode

WWE will be presenting a special episode of SmackDown Live in the near future as it was reported by Pwinsider.com that the 1,000th episode celebration for the show that the blue brand represents is currently scheduled to go down on October 16th in Washington, DC.

It was also noted that WWE is already making plans for the big event, which is similar to what the company did for the 1000 episode of Monday Night RAW back in 2012.

SmackDown made its debut on television back on August 29, 1999 in Kansas City, Missouri and has aired on several networks over the years including UPN television network, The CW, MyNetworkTV, SYFY, The USA Network, and will air on FOX starting next October which is expected to make SmackDown the A-show of the company.

Summer Rae’s New Look

Former WWE star Summer Rae has changed up her look as she dyed her hair red after years of being blonde.

Rae, who departed from the WWE last year and is currently a successful model, posted the following photo on her official Instagram account:

Who Should Be Traded To Smackdown, Sasha Or Bayley?

It was announced last week at Raw from General Manager Kurt Angle that if Bayley or Sasha do not get along one could be traded to Smackdown. While the tag team of Bayley and Sasha vs. Dana Brooke and Alica Fox did not “end well” it will be interesting to see if WWE will follow up on the trade angle.

This editorial will look at the pros and cons of trading either Sasha or Bayley to Smackdown and who should Smackdown trade in place of either female superstar.

The Storyline Thus Far…

Bayley and Sasha have been feuding for the better half of 2018. With their recent “counseling” angle costing them two weeks off from wrestling on Raw and even  Extreme Rules, one would wonder what is the next step for the feud.

Angle announced to Bayley that either she or Sasha could be traded to Smackdown if they don’t “get along” and their following tag team match proved that they are not on the same page.

The last segment between the two rivals revealed that Sasha “loves” Bayley in a way that might be stronger than friendship. Many rumors are speculating that a lesbian angle between the two might be in the works after this encounter but like every WWE storyline, it’s subject to change last minute.

The Trade To Smackdown

While the lesbian angle would coincide with the current LGBTQ movement, both females are heterosexual and Sasha is married while Bayley is currently engaged with her fiance. I say this as a lot of wrestling fans cannot put the distinction between kayfabe and real life and at this point would seem to be forced just for the sake of it.

If we were to ignore the ambiguous statement from Sasha and continue with the trade angle one would have to consider the pros and cons of either females being traded.

Bayley (Pros):

The move to Smackdown could very well be in Bayley’s favor. During her tenure on Raw, Bayley has fallen from grace and hasn’t been considered a serious contender for the Raw Women’s Championship after her injury from last year.

On Smackdown she could get fans re-invested as she could re-ignite a feud with real best friend Carmella and battle for the title in the remaining months of the year. Bayley could also provide more face power to the Smackdown Women’s division as heels outnumber the faces as of right now.

Lastly, if the feud with Carmella is booked properly, she could be the third women in history to hold both Raw and Smackdown Women’s Championship.

Bayley (Cons):

If the trade were to be made it could be helpful for Bayley in the beginning but could be detrimental as well.

Currently, Smackdown is focusing on a possible Women’s title match with Carmella and Becky Lynch, the other storyline had the IIconics and Rose and Devile elevate Becky to the number one contender status.

In the dust, Naomi has not been used for a storyline for many months and Lana is involved with the Rusev Day angle. Long story short, Bayley could be thrown into obscurity if creative has nothing for her on Smackdown if traded.

Sasha Banks (Pros):

Sasha has let the WWE Universe know time after time that she would love to go to Smackdown and emulate her wrestling idol Eddie Guerrero from his time on the blue brand.

On Smackdown, Sasha could bring back the heel persona she portrayed on NXT and rule with an iron fist on the B show. I personally feel they would take more of a chance of turning her heel on Smackdown as it is the B show and Smackdown is known to take more character risk and persona changes than Raw (minus the Emmalina hype).

Other feuds that could happen is Sasha versus Becky Lynch or Sasha versus Naomi, even Sasha versus Asuka or Charlotte could be revisited and be given more time on the blue brand.  Her presence on Smackdown could be used to help elevate Mandy Rose and Sonya Devile. God’s Greatest Creation could get use some elevation in order to be taken seriously as a title contender and is numerously quoted as the “next Trish Stratus”.

Sasha (Cons):

If Sasha were to turn heel it would have to be booked right. While we have Carmella as the top Smackdown Women heel, we have the IIconics, Rose, and Devile there as well but have been mainly used for filer matches.

Obscurity could be another issue that Sasha could face if put on Smackdown. Unless she wins the Smackdown title in the upcoming six months she could be in the same barrel as Naomi if she isn’t being used for any storylines if traded.

My opinion on the matter if I was booking this feud? I would move Sasha to Smackdown. Sasha being on Smackdown could be the breath of fresh air that Smackdown might need right now and her turning heel has been hinted for over a year now and could finally happen on the B show. She just needs to be relevant on Smackdown in order for the trade to be worthwhile.

The Smackdown Trade

If either Raw female superstars were to be traded to Smackdown who would take their place?

Charlotte:

The Queen is still recovering from implant repair surgery and a resurgence on Raw could be her ticket back to being on top. While Charlotte has been making history on Smackdown, if she were to return back to Raw she could be pitted against Rousey in a feud that many want to see and could continue elevating the Raw Women’s Championship if she were to win it again.

Becky Lynch:

The Irish Lass Kicker is gearing up to battle Carmella for the Smackdown Women’s Championship. While Lynch has played the underdog on Smackdown for some time, her being traded to Raw makes more sense if Charlotte is not chosen. Her fighting persona could be used for a competition type feud with Rowsey to see who could compete to be number one contender for the Raw Women’s Title.

Naomi:

While Naomi’s second title win at Wrestlemania 33 was hometown moment, anything after that has been forgettable. A presence on Raw could spark a feud with Alexa Bliss and Mickie James and Naomi could be used as a transitional champion until WWE is ready to give Rousey her first title run.

How It Should Be Booked

Raw takes place tonight in Cincinnati, Ohio. It only makes sense to have another segment with Bayley and Sasha (in which the “love” statement could be further elaborated) that could lead to a match that night. From there Kurt could announce a match at SummerSlam between Sasha and Bayley and the stipulation would be that the loser of that match would get traded to Smackdown.

It puts eyes and attention on the fued and makes up for their absence from Extreme Rules. From there it’s up to WWE to see what decision they’ll take in trading who for who. Either way, this shake-up would add interest to WWE programming and not take away from it.

Reigns Makes Bold SummerSlam Claim, Usos’ Message For Bludgeon Brothers (Video)

1

Roman Reigns’ Bold Prediction For SummerSlam

Tonight (Mon. July 23, 2018) we find out who will go on to SummerSlam to take on Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Title – Roman Reigns or Bobby Lashley. Last week on Monday Night RAW both Reigns and Lashley won their respective Triple Threat matches.

Now they will face off on tonight’s edition of RAW, with the winner going to SummerSlam in attempt to dethrone “The Beast.” Reigns recently took to Twitter and talked about getting to spend some quality time with his daughter in Los Angeles this week.

With all that behind him now, he says he’s ready for Lashley tonight and declared he’ll be the one going to SummerSlam – and he’s going to beat Brock Lesnar:

The Usos’ Message For The Bludgeon Brothers

Four teams will compete in a tournament on SmackDown Live to determine SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions The Bludgeon Brothers’ next opponents for the straps. One of those teams is none other than former SDL Tag Team Champs The Usos.

Jimmy and Jey posted the following video message to The Bludgeon Brothers from WWE’s official Twitter account backstage from a Springfield live event:

John Cena May Have Teased Upcoming Match On Social Media

3

The build for the upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view is up and running but one name has yet to be mentioned on WWE television and that’s John Cena.

WWE is not advertising Cena for any upcoming events. He was last seen when he beat Triple H in the opening match on the main card of the Greatest Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in April.

However, over the weekend, Cena had fans talking about an interesting photo on his official Instagram account which led to speculation that he was hinting at a match against The Undertaker. Their first encounter was at WrestleMania 34 earlier this year and was a short match which led to a lot of fans believing that they could do a rematch in the future.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BlaohtXgHzK/?hl=en&taken-by=johncena

Also, a fan asked longtime pro wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer on Twitter if he thinks Cena will appear at SummerSlam, which Meltzer responded with the following:

Another interesting turn about this speculation is the fact that since 2004, Cena has worked SummerSlam every year and with WWE considering it being the second biggest event of the year just behind WrestleMania, one would have to assume that there’s a good chance Cena will work this upcoming event.

However, as of this writing, this is pure speculation as WWE has yet to confirm Cena making an appearance at the show.

What are your thoughts on Cena potentially working this show? Sound off in the comment section.

Bruce Prichard On Vince McMahon’s Sleeping Habits

2

Former WWE official Bruce Prichard was recently interviewed on the Sam Roberts’ Wrestling Podcast and talked about what it was really like working for Vince McMahon.

One topic of discussion brought up was whether or not “The Chairman Of The Board” ever takes some time to get some rest. Prichard said that McMahon likely gets a few hours of sleep each night before an early wake-up call to get in a cardio workout.

He also detailed how McMahon sometimes takes 30-minute naps during the day from time-to-time. Prichard shared an experience of his own with McMahon, who used a tour bus to take a nape in once:

“He’d probably get a couple of hours of sleep before he’d wake up to do cardio. He takes like 30 minute power naps every once in awhile. I’ve gotten alcohol poisoning two times in my life, both times with Vince McMahon.

“The first time drinking moon shine and the second time was just a crazy night and I remember Vince coming to me and going, ‘Brucie, what are those buses like?’ Those were the early days of the rock n’ roll buses we had for the cameramen and the ring crew guys. Actually they’re pretty nice. McMahon said, ‘Get everybody off. We’ll take a nap in there.’

“We would go and just 30 minutes. He would go nap. He goes out and when he wakes up he’s like, ‘Goddamn let’s go. Holy cow that was good! Good times, huh? You know what? I think I got an extra minute there. I think that made a difference”

Brian Cage Reveals WWE’s Plans For Him Before Release

2

WWE almost pulled the trigger on a pretty neat idea for Brian Cage during his time with the company back in 2008.

Cage, currently signed to IMPACT Wrestling, was in WWE’s then-developmental territory of Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW). In a recent interview with The Miami Herald, Cage said that he was praised for his working ability by late Hall Of Famer Dusty Rhodes and was being considered for a main roster call-up.

A super-hero/villain gimmick was pitched that would have Cage go by the name of “Dark Claw.” He was being considered to either feud or tag team with Hurricane Helms, who had just brought back his Hurricane gimmick at the time:

“I am out there having awesome matches with Justin Gabriel, Tyson Kidd, Trent Barrreta, and Dusty Rhodes pulls me to the office and goes, ‘Let me tell you something baby. You are a phenomenal worker. You got to have something else.

“You can’t be that. Hey Matt, what’s that guy called the Honey Badger? The Wolverine yeah. But you can’t be the Wolverine because that’s a trademark, so give me something else. I went back, and I was looking through my trading cards and comics, and I said, ‘I’ll be like the Dark Claw which is Batman and Wolverine.’

“I made my attire off that, and they were going to bring me up, and then Hurricane came up and Dusty said, ‘OK, we are thinking of feuding or teaming you with Hurricane.’ So I started doing a bunch of heel promos but I got released.”

Kenny Omega Takes Shot At Tama Tonga For Lowering His “Average Star Rating”

2

Kenny Omega defeated Tama Tonga on Saturday in NJPW’s G1 Climax 28. Tonga was disqualified after repeated interference and giving a cutter to the referee. This G1 has seen far more interference and run-ins than what is normally seen in the promotion.

According to comments Omega made after the match, he was upset at Tama for cheating but for different reasons than you might expect.

“I’m not mad that you cheated in this match,” Omega said backstage. “In fact, what I’m most mad at is that by using your friends, by using a DQ just to beat me up and leave me possibly with injury, you, my friend, have affected my average star-rating.”

The Bullet Club OGs/Firing Squad have been interfering in several matches and Bad Luck Fale has already been disqualified multiple times for his actions. On the first night of the tournament, the Firing Squad interfered early in Fale’s match with Hangman Page, who was making his debut in the tournament. The BCOGs constant cheating has been the talk of the G1 thus far.

Kenny Omega Reacts To Match With Tama Tonga

Kenny Omega had the following to say when he got to the back after the match.

“Tama Tonga, nothing much has changed since last year, has it?” Omega said. “Last year, you yourself said the G1 didn’t mean anything. Clearly, the same is true. You don’t care about the 2 points, you don’t care about going to the finals, all you care about is making a statement that you and your boys care about each other. And oh boo f****ng hoo,  there’s a group of people that are better than you that dream bigger.”

“I thought you were clever by implicating the use of your boys,” Omega continued. “But Tama, at the end of the day, it was still all to make a very immature point that blood is thicker than water.”

“Tama Tonga, all take these boys and their talent and what they bring to the table over whatever the hell it is you believe in.”

The G1 Climax 28 resumes on Thursday.
