Lilian Garcia Talks WWE Rules, The Secret To A Successful WWE Career, Tripping

4

Former WWE ring announcer Lilian Garcia recently spoke to interview site Naluda.com and commented on the most challenging part about her WWE job – the rules. She said:

“RULES!!! When there were big matches, the rules, a page long, would be handed to me that day, sometimes right before the match. I had to memorize every word exactly as they were written, wow….what pressure!! The pressure came from me because I always wanted to do my best and make the match introductions extremely special!”

Lilian did have positive things to say about her longtime employer. She commented on the secret for a long and very successful WWE career like her own:

“Be dependable, care about your job, work hard, and above all be grateful for the opportunity! Know that working at WWE is a team effort. The less ego you have, the more you will enjoy the ride. And above all, have fun!!”

Lilian also commented on if she had any scary or embarrassing moments. We know she had several tripping incidents over the years, and she commented on one accident in London:

“Yes! Within 2 weeks of each other, during my entrance to the ring, one week my shoe strap broke where I had to take off my shoes and go barefoot to the ring, and the next one in London, I tripped over the pyro cannons that were not supposed to be there. Scary then, but sure is funny now!!”

Sasha Banks Wants To Main Event WrestleMania & Be On The Cover Of WWE 2K

15

Sasha Banks recently spoke with SI.com’s Justin Barrasso and revealed big dreams for her WWE future, including the cover of the WWE 2K18 video game. She said:

“I’ve accomplished so many of my dreams already, but main-eventing WrestleMania is a dream. Also, I want to be on the cover of the 2K game next year–bye bye, Brock. The sky is the limit, and there is no limit to my dreams.”

Sasha Banks also believes her story with current Women’s Champion Charlotte is far from over. She commented on the number one thing she’s learned in WWE:

“Patience is key. You can’t get selfish, and that’s the number one thing I’ve learned at WWE. The world continues to go round, and I just knew–given the right opportunity and the right moment–that the world would know I was good, but now the world knows that I’m great.”

The Fairfield, California native says everything came together for her once she moved to Boston. “I joined a wrestling school, and it was the same wrestling school I remember emailing when I was twelve and they told me I was too young. Then, there I was at 18, walking through the doors to this fantasy camp and I was the only girl. I walked in and thought, ‘I got this,’ and I got it. They gave me three months of free training, and they helped a little Mercedes KV turn into ‘The Boss’ Sasha Banks. That’s why I love Boston so much, it’s home. I got the phone call for my tryout in Boston. Boston is home, I love it.”

Details On WWE’s Original Plans To Pair Alberto Del Rio & Paul Heyman

26

With Alberto Del Rio reportedly on the way out of WWE once again, more details are emerging about his most recent run with the company. Prior to his return with Zeb Colter back in October, Del Rio was reportedly supposed to return with Paul Heyman by his side instead.

According to Dace Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE originally had big plans for Del Rio’s return. The company had reportedly promised him a main event push with Paul Heyman has his manager. Early on in his return, he was so close with Vince McMahon that they would fly together and sit next to each other on the company jet.

Pairing Del Rio with Colter instead of Heyman was an idea from McMahon himself, and it ended up not working out as well as they had hoped.

“When that pairing didn’t work, McMahon moved on to his next toy, so to speak,” Meltzer wrote. “His next run as part of the League of Nations was no better and he was just a guy on the card, even though he had a top main eventer contract.”

Del Rio was first joined the company in 2010, then was released in August of 2014 for slapping an employee who made a racist joke about him. Del Rio went on to work for AAA, Lucha Underground, and ROH, before turning to WWE at Hell In A Cell in October of 2015.

CM Punk Ready For His UFC Debut, Has A Message For His Critics (Video)

55

CM Punk recently spoke with TMZ about his upcoming MMA debut, which takes place in less than two weeks at UFC 203 on 9/10 from Cleveland, OH. It was a quick interview, but here are some highlights:

When asked if he has a message for his critics, Punk replied, “Who the f*ck cares?” He focuses on himself, stays positive and doesn’t have time for people doubting him.

Punk said we very well could see him bust out some wrestling moves in the Octagon if the opportunity presents itself. He referenced Dan Henderson recently dropping an elbow on Michael Bisping, so you never know.

A lot has been said about Punk getting into MMA pretty late in the game. The 37-year-old former pro wrestler is fighting an uphill battle against Mickey Gall, who is only 24 and sports a 2-0 professional record. Punk has been training relentlessly since signing with UFC back in December 2014. He named his heart and his chin as his two biggest strengths, stating once again that he’s in this for the long haul.

He vows to win at UFC 203 and expects a rowdy crowd in Cleveland. The fans who are there to see him win will be loud and he expects to win over everybody else.

Punk was jokingly asked if AJ Lee could make it in the UFC and if he would support her becoming a fighter. He and AJ support each other with everything they do, whether it’s as an author, UFC fighter or astronaut.

Rob Van Dam Talks Potential WWE Return, Retirement

21

ECW original Rob Van Dam recently appeared on The Buzzards Wrestling Podcast. With WWE bringing back so many familiar faces to pad out the RAW and SmackDown rosters, it seems like RVD would be a great fit for either brand. The former WWE Champion would be open to getting back in a WWE ring under the right circumstances, but it would first require WWE expressing interest.

“First off, it’s not up to me. I mean, I have no inside information,” he said. “Second off, Hunter – Triple H – is the boss of WWE, and I really can’t tell you if that’s in his vision. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not. I don’t think he’s ever seen me as someone he thought should be pushed forward. I think every achievement I got was in spite of him and people that think like him. And like I said, I’m an exception. I’m not the traditional, stereotype that they’re looking for. I get that. I get that.”

Rob Van Dam knows he’s on the tail end of his career, but he’s not ready to call it quits just yet. Despite a long career and a few injuries along the way, he feels as good as he did when he was in his 20’s. “I’m not looking to do much more in wrestling, but at the same time, I don’t really see a big advantage in retiring. Don’t know, really, if you are gonna see the end of my wrestling career real soon. I know, physically, I still feel as good as I have in like the last 20 years.”

At the same time, he doesn’t know if he still has the killer instinct it takes to hang with the up and coming guys. He can still go in the ring, but to keep up with the demands of a full-time WWE Superstar. He admitted, “Honestly, everyone else in the dressing room wants it more than me. They do, and that’s an issue. Because they’re all 22 and they’re all so excited to be there – and I can’t wait to get out of there and get some dinner afterwards. It’s been like that for a long, long time.”

It’s a really good interview. You can listen to RVD on The Buzzards Wrestling Podcast here:

Ric Flair Speaks On His WWE Status, The “Four Horsewomen,” AJ Styles

4

Ric Flair says he’s currently waiting to hear back from WWE about returning to TV. The Nature Boy was on Main Event Radio recently to talk about his WWE Superstar daughter, and being written off of television.

“I’m waiting to hear,” Flair said of potentially returning to WWE TV. “I’ve actually got some time off after being on the road with them for five months. After she [Charlotte] fired me, I actually took a deep breath and said I’m going home for a couple of months. I love working for the company, it’s a phenomenal place to work. If they need me and they want me to come back, I’m ready to go.”

Flair was written off of WWE television when Charlotte fired him in-storyline back in May. Flair says he couldn’t be prouder of his daughter and feels that Charlotte is the foundation of the women’s division.

“She’s doing so well and she and her friends Sasha [Banks] and Becky [Lynch] — the whole division is strong, she’s right in the middle of it, having the time of her life and working hard,” Flair said.

As far as Charlotte possibly forming a “Four Horsewomen” group, Flair says that’s up to the creative team, but he doesn’t see it happening on the main WWE roster.

Flair also spoke on AJ Styles reaching WWE, saying that he really enjoyed Styles in TNA and couldn’t be happier that he’s now with WWE. You can check out the full interview here.

Eva Marie Dyed Her Hair Black (Photos)

94

Eva Marie is no longer “All Red Everything.”

The SmackDown Superstar is currently serving a 30-day suspension for her first violation of WWE’s talent wellness policy. After some initial confusion surrounding the cause of her suspension, it later came out that she had been taking Adderall. She issued a statement explaining,

“I violated policy by not turning in portions of required paperwork in the time frame WWE Medical deemed timely.”

The suspension announced August 18th will keep her out of action through WWE Backlash, when WWE crowns the first Smackdown Women’s Champion. When she returns, she’ll be sporting a dramatically different look.

Eva Marie posted these photos on Snapchat showing off her new jet black hair:

Alberto Del Rio Gone From WWE, WWE TLC Announced For December, More

27

– Alberto Del Rio will not be returning to WWE when his 30-day suspension is over. After news broke on Tuesday that Del Rio has been pulled from all future WWE events, our friend Raj Giri from WrestlingINC.com got some new exclusive details regarding his departure.

Alberto Del Rio’s lawyer actually informed WWE two months ago that he was opting out of his contract. Del Rio was reportedly frustrated with a string of empty promises from WWE management since his return to the company last year.

The former WWE Champion had a rocky run since his surprise return at Hell in a Cell last October. After a big United States Championship win over John Cena his first night back, Del Rio floundered with Zeb Colter as part of the MexAmerica gimmick. He’d later be part of the short-lived League of Nations stable, often looking highly disinterested on television. His romantic relationship with Paige also didn’t do him any favors.

Del Rio will be free to work anywhere by the end of September. We’ve already heard he’s taking bookings overseas and will be wrestling for WCPW in the UK this fall, probably the November show.

– Americos, the masked luchador squashed by Braun Strowman on RAW, is a Texan wrestler who competes for Traditional Championship Wrestling. Hyan, the woman squashed by Nia Jax on RAW, works for Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling promotion using the name Hyaneyoung

– WWE Tables, Ladders and Chairs is scheduled for December 4th from Dallas, Texas at the American Airlines Center. The news was announced at Tuesday night’s SmackDown tapings. A pre-sale is running through Friday (using code “WWETLC”) with tickets going on sale to the general public on October 1st. Based on WWE’s pay-per-view schedule for the rest of the year, this will be a SmackDown-exclusive event.

PROGRESS Champion Heading to Ring of Honor

3

Ring of Honor have released a promotional video hyping the impending debut of British wrestling star Marty Scurll.

‘The Villain’ is one of the biggest names on the UK circuit today and has already ventured stateside in the past for EVOLVE and PWG.

ROH have already announced that Will Ospreay will be heading out on the company’s UK tour this November and with Scurll now debuting there could be further British signings in the coming months.

WWE Smackdown Reaction 8/30

12

This week’s episode opened up with Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan watching The Miz’s brutal promo on Bryan on Talking Smack. Shane McMahon then stated that Daniel Bryan should apologize to The Miz, since Bryan is the General Manager of Smackdown and shouldn’t be provoking the talent. Daniel Bryan agreed that he needed to apologize but also thought it was ironic that Shane said that, given his current situation with Brock Lesnar.

The Miz came down to the ring and cut a promo about how awesome he is. Miz claimed that the Intercontinental Championship had been tarnished by quitters and losers. The Miz insisted that he would bring the title back to relevancy. Dolph Ziggler interrupted and stated that nobody in the audience believed anything The Miz was saying. Ziggler accused The Miz of being in the business just to get famous and then challenged The Miz to a fight. The Miz left the ring and Dolph Ziggler called him a coward. The Miz then took off his jacket and walked back towards the ring but Maryse stopped him. Maryse was shouting that Dolph Ziggler hasn’t earned a fight with The Miz. Finally, The Miz left and Dolph Ziggler stood tall in the ring.

Reaction: Dolph Ziggler makes sense in the Intercontinental Championship picture. However, he has been consistently losing for awhile now and it is going to take a lot for the WWE Universe to take Ziggler seriously. I feel like I’ve seen The Miz and Ziggler wrestle 10,000 times.  I would be more interested in the Intercontinental Championship if someone fresh was trying to capture it.

Smackdown Tag Team Championship Tournament Match: The Vaudevillians vs Hype Bros

The Vaudevillians controlled this match early on and it was looking like they were going to advance in the tournament. However, Mojo and Zack Ryder were able to battle back and hit the Hype Ryder on Aiden English for the victory. After the match, Ryder and Mojo were interviewed in the ring. Mojo pretty much just screamed into the microphone and jumped around. Zack Ryder finished the interview off by saying “you know it, bro”.

Winners & Advancing in the Smackdown Tag Team Championship Tournament: Hype Bros

Reaction: The Hype Bros are a solid tag team. They may not be for everybody but that is alright. I actually enjoy The Vaudevillians. I think there is room in the WWE for a silly gimmick like that. Having said that, I can’t remember the last time they won a match. There is no other word to describe The Vaudevillians other than irrelevant right now.

AJ Styles was prancing around backstage while wearing John Cena’s “never give up” headband. Styles was introducing himself to everyone as “the face that runs the place”. Styles ran into Apollo Crews and claimed to have forgotten his name. Crews spelled his name out and Styles laughed and stated that this wasn’t a spelling bee. AJ Stlyes then walked away and Apollo Crews just stood there smiling. He’s a very happy guy.

Styles then made his way to the ring and cut a promo on Dean Ambrose. Styles stated that he will defeat Ambrose at Backlash and also threw in a few more shots at John Cena. Apollo Crews then interrupted and AJ Styles once again made a spelling bee joke. I guess it was so funny the first time he just had to say it again. Apollo Crews stated that he had got permission from GM Daniel Bryan to challenge Styles to a match and that match would happen right now.

Apollo Crews vs AJ Styles

AJ Styles controlled the match in the beginning. He had Crews trapped in the corner and was beating him down. Crews battled back and hit a Dropkick. The action spilled to the outside of the ring and Crews hit Styles with a big punch. Crews then walked over to Mauro Ranallo and spelled out the word “punch”. The rest of the match was back and forth but Styles hit a Neckbreaker on the top rope. As Crews was recovering, Styles was getting himself in position. When Crews turned around he was greeted with a Phenomenal Forearm from Styles that ended the match.

Winner: AJ Styles

Reaction: This was a solid match. Apollo Crews even got some time on the microphone which was interesting. I think Crews has the potential to be great. He is already great in the ring, hopefully in time he will continue to improve on the microphone. He had a good showing against Styles tonight but it still kind of feels like he is just floating around with no direction. He is not chasing the Intercontinental Championship anymore. I hope the WWE comes up with something for Crews to do soon so they can continue to build him up.

Renee Young traveled to West Virginia to interview Heath Slater. Rhyno was also hanging out at Slater’s house. Heath introduced Renee to his wife, whom is not his actual wife. Renee was wondering where Heath’s children were. Slater claimed that they were outside somewhere picking up bottles and cans. Slater’s wife then brings over crackers and cheese whiz. This segment ended with Rhyno making creepy faces at Renee Young in an apparent effort to flirt with her.

Reaction: I found this segment to be painfully unfunny. They were constantly cutting to Rhyno eating crackers and Slater’s “wife” wasn’t funny. I guess the whole point of this segment was to prove that Heath Slater is white trash and poor. It was just dumb.

Bray Wyatt cut a promo on Randy Orton. Wyatt claimed that he was the “predator” now. Orton interrupted and claimed that he doesn’t feat Bray Wyatt. Orton then accepted Wyatt’s challenge to face him at Backlash. Orton then tried to run into the ring and fight Wyatt but the lights went out and that was the end of the segment.

Naomi & Becky Lynch vs Alexa Bliss & Natalya

Nikki Bella joined the announcer’s table for this match. Natalya and Alexa Bliss were dominating Naomi in the beginning of this match. Finally, Naomi is able to tag in Becky Lynch. Becky hit a Dropkick on Alexa Bliss. It was at this point that Carmella attacked Nikki Bella. Carmella came running in from the crowd. Becky Lynch was distracted by this and Alexa Bliss took advantage. Bliss rolled up Lynch and held onto her tights for the victory.

Winners: Alexa Bliss & Natalya

Smackdown Tag Team Championship Tournament Match: Heath Slater & Rhyno vs The Headbangers

Mosh and Thrasher made there triumphant return and beat up Heath Slater for awhile. Eventually, Rhyno was able to drag Slater to the corner and he was tagged in. Rhyno then hit the Gore on Thrasher for the win. In the brief amount of time Rhyno was in the ring, he somehow busted his face open and was bleeding rather badly when this match ended.

Winners & Advancing in the Smackdown Tag Team Championship Tournament: Heath Slater & Rhyno

AJ Styles joined the announcer’s table for the main-event. Before the main-event, some guy in a suite was in the ring demanding a match. His name was Gary “The Milkman” Millman and he wanted a fight. The Milkman decided to strip down to his underwear in the middle of the ring. Kane’s music hit and The Milkman desperately tried to put his pants back on and get out of there. Unfortunately for Gary “The Milkman” Millman, he couldn’t figure out how to get his pants back on and was received a Chokeslam from Kane.

Baron Corbin vs Dean Ambrose

The match started off slow with Corbin in control. Ambrose battled back and sent Corbin outside the ring. Styles then slammed Corbin right in front of AJ Styles. The two began to bark at each other and Corbin took advantage and hit Ambrose from behind. Corbin was going for a Suplex off the second rope but Ambrose blocked it and knocked Corbin down. Corbin threw Ambrose against the barricade outside the ring. Styles got up from his seat and screamed at Corbin to stay on him. Corbin got in Styles’ face and claimed that nobody tells him what to do. Ambrose then hit Corbin from behind and Corbin went flying into Styles. The referee then disqualified Ambrose because Styles accidentally kicked Baron Corbin. Ambrose hit the Dirty Deeds on Corbin after the match. Styles was once again going for the Phenomenal Forearm, but Ambrose hits his leg and Styles falls crotch first on the top rope. Styles was just sitting there in agony and Ambrose came over and gave him a pat on the back. Ambrose then shook the rope and Styles screamed in pain. That was the end of the show.

Winner via DQ: Baron Corbin

Reaction: Last night’s episode of Monday Night Raw was very good so it would have been difficult this week for Smackdown to top it. They came up woefully short. Everything on this show just felt cheap. The Heath Slater interview was just not entertaining. I have no idea what the point of the Gary “The Milkman” Millman segment was. The finish to the main-event was very lame. The Apollo Crews and AJ Styles match was solid and Bray Wyatt had a decent promo. The rest of the show felt cheap and random.

What did you think of this week’s episode of Smackdown? Let us know in the comments below.

Charges Against Former TNA Star Crimson Dismissed

11

Back in April we reported on former TNA star Crimson being arrested for domestic assault after a security guard witnessed him headbutting his wife outside of a hotel in Tennessee. The couple both denied any incident and his wife Heather claimed she just fell. Full details on that incident are at this link.

The charges against Crimson have been dismissed, according to this announcement from the Law Office of Kimberly Turner & Associates, PLLC:

CHARGES DISMISSED AGAINST CRIMSON

Clarksville, TN, August 24, 2016

Charges against Anthony Gregory Mayweather, known in TNA Wrestling circles as “Crimson”, have been dismissed by the Montgomery County District Attorneys’ Office.

Mr. Mayweather was charged with domestic assault by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in April 2016.

Mr. Mayweather’s attorney, Kimberly Turner, subsequently met with the District Attorney’s Office to offer additional information for their consideration and following discussions between Mrs. Turner and the District Attorney’s Office, the charge against Mr. Mayweather was dismissed on July 22, 2016.

Mrs. Turner reports that “This has been a very difficult time for the Mayweather family and they are grateful to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office for considering all of the information provided and promptly dismissing the charge against Anthony.”

All records of the charges against Mr. Mayweather have been expunged.
