Report: Impact Wrestling Possibly Moving To Thursday Nights

18

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFWmAdVz71w

It sounds like there may be another change on the horizon for TNA’s weekly Impact Wrestling broadcast. Dave Meltzer reported on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio that there’s serious talk between TNA and Pop TV about moving Impact Wrestling to Thursday nights. Nothing is official as of press time, but Meltzer feels that the move to Thursdays is probable.

Impact Wrestling currently airs on Tuesdays, and starting July 19th, so will WWE Smackdown. Impact would have one hour of unopposed programming after SmackDown ends if they were to stay on Tuesday nights.

Impact Wrestling aired on Friday nights on Destination America starting in January of last year, then switched to Wednesday nights in June. The show has been airing on Tuesday nights since the company’s January 5th, 2016 premiere on Pop TV.

Brock Lesnar On Working With Vince McMahon, His UFC 200 Training Camp (Video)

12

UFC 200 main eventer Brock Lesnar spoke with Megan Olivi ahead of his big fight this weekend against Mark Hunt. One of the main topics of discussion was his relationship with Vince McMahon/WWE and how his UFC return came to be.

“The devil’s in the details in the language; it’s not complicated when you have the right people who understand your contracts and understand your life,” Lesnar explained. “That really boils down to it. Vince giving me the nod to be able to do this, I have great respect for the man and I think he has a greater respect for Brock Lesnar after I walked out in 2004 and went on to become UFC heavyweight champion.”

Lesnar also remarked how Vince knows that a happy Brock is easier to work with.

Regarding family life, Lesnar said his family is currently living in Canada. He wants to raise his kids how he was raised – learning the meaning of hard work and “country living.”

Brock also discusses Saturday’s fight, his training camp and more, noting that he’s not afraid of getting hit by the hard-hitting Hunt and believes he will win as he’s confident in his own abilities.

NJPW Champion Making ROH Debut at Death Before Dishonor XIV

0

Katsuyori Shibata has been booked to appear at Ring of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor pay per view on August 20th. Shibata is also scheduled to make his UK debut at Revolution Pro Wrestling this Sunday at York Hall in London against Zack Sabre Jr.

There has been speculation that 2016 could finally be the year that Shibata wins the prestigious NJPW G1 Climax tournament. Shibata does appear to have regained the trust of New Japan after leaving to pursue MMA in the mid-2000s and these international bouts could be setting the stage for a major IWGP title push in the near future.

TNA Impact Audience Way Up This Week For The Final Deletion

21

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mhw7nIjcqw

Viewership was up significantly for this week’s TNA Impact Wrestling on Pop, which featured the Final Deletion angle with Matt and Jeff Hardy. The July 5th episode of Impact Wrestling averaged 410,000 viewers, way up from last week’s 322,000. This was the most-watched episode of Impact since moving to Pop back in December.

All around, this is great news for TNA and a sign that the buzz on social media translated to a spike in viewership. TNA’s strategic decision to provide select members of the wrestling media an advance preview of the segment paid off. The positive reviews that followed certainly had an effect on the increased interest.

Next week, TNA looks to keep the momentum going with Destination X, featuring TNA World Champion Bobby Lashley vs. new TNA X Division Champion Eddie Edwards and EC3’s grudge match against Drew Galloway.

TNA Makes Offer To Former ROH Star, Why WWE Backed Off

17

MLW Radio reported earlier today that former ROH star and one-time WWE prospect Moose had signed with TNA. They later posted an update, seen below, noting that TNA has made an offer but Moose hasn’t made a decision yet.

It’s no secret that Moose has been on WWE’s radar and was expected to be at the WWE Performance Center this fall. The Wrestling Observer reports that WWE backed away from signing Moose due to a 2009 domestic incident with his now ex-wife, that led to a one-game suspension as he was playing in the NFL then. WWE reportedly told Moose that it was a timing issue, due to the recent incidents with Adam Rose and Jerry Lawler, not a closed door.

Bret Hart On Triple H: “He Could Never Lace My F*cking Boots Up. Period.”

74

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart went off on Triple H once again on latest edition his Sharpshooter Podcast. In a conversation with his sons Blade and Dallas, Bret spoke about the WWE 2K video games and questioned why Triple H got a 98 rating in last year’s game while his character was given an 85. This got Bret started on a rant about Triple H being a “very good, medium, mediocre wrestler” and WWE’s portrayal of wrestling legends.

Here’s a transcript of Bret’s comments about Triple H and why the number of championships a wrestler has won says little about their contributions to the business.

Bret: I like the new one. I have some discrepancies with the game a little bit. I went to a thing last Fall when the latest 2K game was coming out. They were telling me how I’m an 85 or something like that and Triple H is a 98. I remember I was like, “Why would he be a 98?” And they go, “Well because he’s the boss and we have to suck up to the boss.” I dunno, he was laughing about it. It kind of pissed me off. I thought, “I don’t care how many titles Triple H wins. He could never lace my f*cking boots up. Period.

Blade: WOAH! Shots fired!

Bret: He was a very good, medium, mediocre wrestler. He never blew me away with anything that he’s ever done. He’s never come up with much. He’s always been a very decent wrestler that could give you a good match. As far as being like mind blowing…

Dallas: The best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be.

Bret: I never saw it. I’ve still never seen it. I’ve seen him in some matches and the whole “4 Out Of 10” thing came out of his match with Lesnar. Which should have been such a good match. It was a mediocre match, if that. That’s where the “4 Out Of 10” comes from. He’s always a guy that will give you a “5 Out Of 10” match every night. He’s going to give you all he can give you and that’s just my opinion. There’s certain guys where you put these video games out and I don’t care. I think you have to do justice to the wrestlers as they were in their careers. It should be based on reality. Not things like who you know in the office. Vince could make him 35 time World Champion and it doesn’t mean he’s 35 times better than everyone else that ever wrestled. He’s just not. As far as the games go I think they should be honest. Someone like Bruno Sammartino should never be a jobber on a video game. So on and so forth. I think you have to pay respect. When I think of a video game I think about how I’d love to have Buddy Rogers versus Ric Flair. Something like that. Where you can wrestle these legends against each other from different periods and stuff. They should always represent the reality of what the wrestling business is and was. It should also include the respect the wrestlers have for each other in the dressing room.

Other topics discussed on this episode include:

  • The Harts final predictions for how Brock Lesnar will do this Saturday at UFC 200 against Mark Hunt
  • Whether a Brock Lesnar defeat hurts his WWE draw at all
  • Stephanie McMahon’s recent comment that UFC is not competition to WWE
  • What it means to Bret when an MMA fighter says they are a fan of pro wrestling
  • If it’s a given that Brock Lesnar will be victorious in his return to WWE at SummerSlam
  • Who would be a good opponent for Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam
  • Bret’s thoughts on pro wrestling video games
  • If WWE is risking burning out it’s fans with two PPV/WWE Network Specials a month
  • Bob Backlund’s chemistry with Darren Young
  • How painful the Crossface Chicken Wing is

UFC Heavyweight Says He’d Love To Join WWE, Will Speak To Dana White About It

9

UFC heavyweight fighter “Big Country” Roy Nelson says he’d love to join WWE and plans to speak with UFC President Dana White about it.

During an “open workout” media event in Las Vegas earlier this week to promote Thursday’s UFC Fight Night event, Nelson stated that he’d join WWE as soon as he gets the green light from UFC execs.

“I would love to go to WWE,” he said. “But, I think in our contracts we’re not allowed to do that. There are some people who get that little extra leeway. But, now I think everyone is kind of going that way, I might as well try it.”

He added, “I’ll talk to Dana and say, ‘Hey, can we do this?’”

Nelson (21-12) will fight “The Black Beast” Derrick Lewis (15-4) on Thursday night, the first of 3 consecutive fight nights from Vegas that culminates with UFC 200 on Saturday night.

Of course, MMA fighters and pro wrestlers crossing over is nothing new, with Ken Shamrock, Dan Severn, Tank Abbott, Josh Barnett, Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar all competing in both arenas.

Final Deletion Director’s Cut (Video), Reactions To The Segment

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GG6y-5OYc_0

TNA, Matt and Jeff Hardy certainly got the wrestling world talking about Tuesday night’s Final Deletion storyline, which ran throughout this week’s Impact broadcast and culminated with a match at the end of the show. The buzz on social media and our own discussion thread was overwhelmingly positive.

Drones, holograms, fireworks used as weapons, Broken Matt, a huge bump by Jeff Hardy, the Final Deletion had it all. As over the top and campy as it was, they produced a very memorable show that got people talking about TNA like we haven’t seen in quite some time. Here are some reactions from the wrestling world:

Meanwhile, it wasn’t all positive. Lucha Underground executive producer Eric Van Wagenen took a shot at TNA over the segment, while Jeremy Borash was quick to throw some shade at LU and the limited availability of the El Rey Network.
