Scott Hall Comments On Recent Alcohol Relapse

29

WWE Hall of Famer Scott Hall is back on track after a recent alcohol relapse and run-in with the law landed him back in the headlines. Hall, a recovering alcoholic, had an incident over the weekend at a bar in Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Police were called to the scene, but no arrest was made.

Scott Hall commented on the situation on Wednesday morning, thanking everybody for their support during this rough time. The Bad Guy says he’s back on track and doing well, which is great to hear.

https://twitter.com/SCOTTHALLNWO/status/773485003850252290

Addiction is a terrible disease and relapses on the road to sobriety are more common than not. Hopefully with renewed commitment and the right support system around him, Scott Hall will continue on his road to healthy living.

As Scott Hall said during his WWE Hall of Fame induction speech, “Bad guys don’t last, but Bad Guys do.”

What Happened After SmackDown, Curt Hawkins Returns Next Week, Repug Action Figures

23

– After Tuesday’s SmackDown Live went off the air, John Cena came out to a huge pop and saved Dean Ambrose from getting beat down further by AJ Styles. Bray Wyatt came out they did the Cena and Ambrose vs. Styles and Wyatt dark match main event. The heels worked over John Cena for most of the match until Cena made the hot tag to Ambrose, who cleaned house. Wyatt went for Sister Abigail on Ambrose, but he reversed it into Dirty Deeds for the win to send the crowd home happy.

– FACT: Curtis Hawkins returns to SmackDown Live next week.

– Ringside Collectibles tweeted this photo of Mattel’s WWE action figures to promote the upcoming Women’s Championship match at Clash of Champions. If you can’t tell, that’s Charlotte and Sasha Banks.

WWE Smackdown Reaction (9/6)

16

This week’s episode of Smackdown started off with Daniel Bryan discussing the Six-Pack Elimination match for the Women’s Championship this Sunday at WWE Backlash. Bryan then was joined by all six participants. Becky Lynch was introduced first, but was eventually joined in the ring by Natalya, Alexa Bliss and Carmella. After some insults back and forth, a brawl was about to break out. Becky Lynch was outnumbered 3-1 but the Naomi and Nikki Bella ran to the ring to even the odds. Nikki Bella and Carmella came face to face in the ring. Nikki Bella went to punch her but Carmella rolled out of the ring and retreated. Becky Lynch and Naomi then tossed Natalya and Alexa Bliss out of the ring. This segment was pretty entertaining. Alexa Bliss had the best insult of the promo.

The Miz confronted Daniel Bryan backstage about his match with Dolph Ziggler at Backlash. Miz isn’t too happy about facing Ziggler. Bryan stated that if The Miz didn’t want to be in the match all he had to do was forfeit the Intercontinental Championship. The Miz angrily walked away.

The Miz vs Apollo Crews

Dolph Ziggler joined commentary for this match. Apollo Crews had The Miz looking foolish in this match and it was looking like he was going to get the victory. Crews sent The Miz flying outside the ring. The Miz recovered but then got in Ziggler’s face next to the announcer’s table. Apollo Crews then went for a Dropkick through the ropes but both The Miz and Ziggler moved out of the way. Crews then was explaining to Ziggler that he wasn’t trying to hit him and The Miz took advantage of it. The Miz shoved Crews into Ziggler then slammed Crews against the turnbuckle outside the ring. Miz then rolled Crews back into the ring and hit the Skull Crushing Finale on him for the victory.

After the match, The Miz and Maryse were celebrating on the entrance ramp. When Miz looked back into the ring he realized that Dolph Ziggler was holding his Intercontinental title. Ziggler was daring Miz to get in the ring and try to get his belt back. The Miz then cowardly asked Maryse to get the title for him. Maryse went into the ring and got the belt while Ziggler laughed in disgust.

Winner: The Miz

Reaction: I thought this match between Apollo Crews and The Miz was better than the one they had at Summerslam. I don’t really understand why Ziggler is already vying for the Intercontinental Championship and I will understand it even less if he actually wins the belt on Sunday. He has come up short in every significant match since the draft, it really doesn’t make sense to me why he already challenging for another title. I’d rather see The Miz continue his run with the IC title.

Bray Wyatt had another pre-taped promo. Wyatt stated that at Backlash, the predator becomes the prey. Bray also claimed that when all is said and done, all that will be left of Orton at Backlash is the chunks of meat stuck to the Eater of Worlds’ teeth. Bray Wyatt then had a crazy look in his eyes and told Randy Orton to run.

Reaction: Why would anyone run from Bray Wyatt? All he does is cut promos that turn out to be meaningless because he lost the match.

Becky Lynch, Naomi & Nikki Bella vs Natalya, Alexa Bliss & Carmella

The match started off with Alexa Bliss slapping Naomi in the face. Naomi didn’t take too kindly to that and responded by kicking Bliss about 20 times in a row. Becky Lynch was then in the ring with Carmella and had her grounded. Lynch tagged in Nikki Bella but Carmella noticed and scampered to the outside of the ring. The match wound up being very back and forth. Nikki Bella picked up Carmella and slammed her to the mat. Bliss broke up the pinfall and took out Nikki. Becky Lynch then charged at Bliss and the two fought outside the ring. Inside the ring, Carmella took advantage of the situation and applied the Code of Silence to Nikki Bella. Nikki had no choice but to tap out.

Winners: Carmella, Alexa Bliss & Natalya

Reaction: I enjoyed the segment that kicked off Smackdown and I also enjoyed this tag team match. The Carmella and Nikki Bella feud is entertaining and I’m looking to the Six-Pack Elimination Match at Backlash.

Tag Team Tournament Match: American Alphas vs The Usos

Before the match, both teams shook hands. As soon as American Alpha turned their backs to head to their corner, The Usos attacked them from behind. American Alpha recovered rather quickly and won the match moments later. After the match, The Usos turned heel and attacked American Alpha. The Usos targeted Chad Gable’s leg and performed an Uso Splash on it. Gable was left screaming in the ring as Jason Jordan came to his aide. It was revealed on Talking Smack that American Alpha will not be able to compete at Backlash due to Gable’s injury. At Backlash it will be the Hype Bros vs The Usos to determine who will take their place in the finals.

Reaction: This was a much needed change for The Usos. They were getting booed anyway, might as well give the crowd a reason to.

https://twitter.com/rhyswwemania/status/773328570831740928

Fandando came down to the ring and revealed that Tyler Breeze was unable to make it to Smackdown. Fandango then brought a woman into the ring to dance with, but he it didn’t go too well. Fandango then asked for someone else to come out and dance with him and Kane’s pyro went off. Fandango seemed excited that Kane wanted to come down to the ring and dance with him. Kane then Chokeslammed Fandango and mocked his dance moves. Kane then left Fandango lying in the ring.

Reaction: The WWE should just replace Kane’s entrance music with this. There has to be something better for Kane to do than Chokeslam someone named The Milkman and Fandango.

AJ Styles broke the phone of someone he thought was taking a picture of him backstage. AJ then yelled at the person to pick the pieces of his phone up.

Tag Team Tournament Match: The Hype Bros vs Heath Slater & Rhyno

All of Heath Slater’s fake family are ringside for the match. The Hype Bros controlled the match early and Heath Slater was desperately trying to tag in Rhyno. The match changed when Rhyno was finally tagged in. Rhyno cleaned house and defeated the Hype Bros. Heath Slater celebrated with his fake family ringside after contributing virtually nothing to his team’s efforts.

Winners & Advancing to the Finals at Backlash: Heath Slater & Rhyno

Charly Caruso was about to interview Dean Ambrose and AJ Styles in the middle of the ring but Ambrose asked her to leave. His reasoning was that things might get violent and AJ Styles tends to get nervous around beautiful women. Ambrose then gave Styles an old bowling participation trophy. Styles then claimed that he wasn’t a joke and Ambrose pointed to the screen. The video of Styles falling groin-first onto the top rope last week was shown. Ambrose claimed that he was just trying to give Styles a high-pitched voice to go along with his soccer mom haircut. The crowd then chanted “soccer mom”. Styles stated that he took Cena’s headband and that on Sunday he is going to take Ambrose’s WWE Championship. AJ Styles then stated that he defeated John Cena clean and that Ambrose is no John Cena. Ambrose then went off on a brilliant rant and said that the WWE doesn’t give away trophies for the face that comes in second place. The show ended with AJ Styles hitting Dean Ambrose with a low-blow. Styles then broke Ambrose’s bowling trophy.

Reaction: This promo started off pretty corny but the last couple of minutes were excellent. Every once in awhile, Ambrose cuts a promo that makes you realize how good he can be on the microphone. The match between Styles and Ambrose has the potential to be something special at Backlash. Overall, this was a good episode of Smackdown.

What did you think of this week’s episode of Smackdown? Let us know in the comments below.

American Alpha Out Of Tag Tournament Finals At Backlash

54

American Alpha defeated The Usos on SmackDown to advance to the tag tournament finals at Backlash, but Chad Gable suffered an MCL sprain that will prevent his team from competing this Sunday.

On SmackDown, Heath Slater & Rhyno defeated the Hype Bros and American Alpha beat The Usos on SmackDown to advance to the tag tournament finals. After American Alpha got a quick win over the Usos, the Samoan twins turned heel and viciously attacked American Alpha.

It was announced on Talking Smack that Gable sustained an injury at the hands of The Usos and as a result, American Alpha won’t be able to compete in the finals.

At WWE Backlash, The Usos will face The Hype Bros. The winner of that match will face Heath Slater and Rhyno later in the evening to crown the first SmackDown tag team champions.

WWE SmackDown Results (9/6)

880

This week’s episode of WWE SmackDown aired live on the USA Network from the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, NE, and is the go-home show before Sunday’s Backlash PPV.

– Daniel Bryan is in the ring to welcome us to SmackDown and discuss the new SmackDown Women’s Tile. He invites Becky Lynch out to the ring to talk about why she wants to win the belt. Natalya interrupts and says Becky’s promo is boring, and that she’s supposed to be the star of SmackDown. Alexa Bliss and Carmella come out next, and the three of them get in Becky’s face. Naomi and Nikki Bella come out to back up Becky. They start going at it and Daniel Bryan leaves the ring. The babyfaces come out on top, but Nikki is down.

– Dean Ambrose is in the back in the catering room and he’s not pleased with the quality of the food or coffee. He pours a bunch of sugar in someone’s coffee and leaves.

– Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan are in the back talking about the SmackDown women’s division. Shane botches his promo when talking about the six-pack challenge and the six-woman tag match tonight. The Miz walks in and complains about having to wrestle tonight. Bryan calls him out for walking away from Ziggler last week when he challenged him. Bryan says if he doesn’t want to work his match, he’ll be stripped of the title.

The Miz def. Apollo Crews: Dolph Ziggler is on commentary, making fun of Miz for not fighting him last week. The Miz controls the opening moments of the match until Crews hits a dropkick that sends Miz rolling to the outside, then follows up with a moonsault off the apron onto the IC Champion. Back in the ring, The Miz hits a backbreaker and a neckbreaker for a 2 count. Crews pins Miz for a two count with a sunset flip, and Miz answers with a big boot and a flying clothesline. The Miz comes off the top rope but Crews catches him with a belly to belly overhead suplex. Crews comes back with a splash in the corner and a flying clothesline, then goes to follow up with a suplex but Miz thumbs his eye and rolls outside. The Miz slaps Ziggler at ringside, Crews slides outside but Miz dodges his kick and pushes Crews into Ziggler. Back in the ring, Miz hits the Skull Crushing Finale for the ring then runs up the ramp. Ziggler has his title belt in the ring, and tells Miz to come get it if he wants it. Miz sends Maryse in to get it instead.

– Renee Young is on the set of Talking Smack talking to AJ Styles. AJ is still mad about last week, and freaks out at someone for letting them air the footage of what happened last week.

– The Usos are in the back talking about the Tag Title tournament, and preparing for their match tonight.

– The lights in the arena cut out and we see a pre-taped segment with Bray Wyatt on his rocking chair cutting a promo on Randy Orton.

Natalya, Alexa Bliss, & Carmella def. Nikki Bella, Becky Lynch, & Naomi: Naomi starts things off with a series of kicks on Alexa for a two count. Becky and Carmella get the tags and Becky cleans house. She hits a flying clothesline and then a flying forearm in the corner. Natalya pulls Becky outside and drops her behind the ref’s back. Carmella chokes Becky on the middle rope, then once again behind the ref’s back Natalya gives Becky a kick to the head. The heels tag turns tagging in and working on Becky. Nikki gets the hot tag and lays out Alexa. She hits a spinning kick off the middle rope for a near-fall on Alexa. Carmella tags in and NIkki hits a Fireman’s carry into a neckbreaker for a two count when Natalya breaks the tag. This clears the aprons and ends up with Alexa hitting a knee rop and a moonsault on Nikki. Becka takes Alexa to the outside. Back in the ring, Carmella locks Nikki in the Code of Silence for the win.

American Alpha def. The Usos: They shake hands, but as soon as American Alpha turns around they beat them down. Within two minutes, Gable and Jordan hit the Grand Amplitude for the win. The Usos shake hands with them after the match, but then beat down the winners. Gable sells a knee injury after the beat down.

– Randy Orton gets interviewed in the back about Bray Wyatt, and tells a story about a man in the woods getting bitten by a snake. He says at Backlash, Bray Wyatt won’t know what hit him.

– Fandango is in the ring saying that his partner Tyler Breeze isn’t here tonight, so he’s going to dance in the ring with a random girl who was standing in the corner. He says he doesn’t like her dancing, then Demon Kane interrupts. Fandango says he wants Kane to dance an wants to “feel the fire in his belly.” Kane chokeslams him and leaves.

– AJ Styles yells at some random guys in the back who he thinks were taking a picture of him. It was a picture of the guy’s family, but AJ smashes him phone anyways and reminds them that he’s the face who runs the place.

Rhino & Heath Slater def. The Hype Bros: Slater and Ryder start things off. Mojo gets the tag and continues working on Slater. Ryder gets the tag and they double team both Ryder and Rhino. After more beating on Slater, Rhino gets the tag and hits a spinebuster on Ryder. Slater tags himself in and is now in the ring with Ryder while Rhino and Mojo brawl outside. Ryder goes for the Broski Boot on Slater but Rhino pulls his partner out of the way and Ryder gets crotched on he ropes. Rhino tags himself in and Gores Ryder for the win.

– Deam Ambrose and AJ Styles head out to the ring to talk to each other. Ambrose excuses the interviewer standing between them, and proceeds to air the footage from last week of Ambrose crotching AJ on the top rope. AJ is very displeased with the footage airing again, and Ambrose explains that he was just trying to give him a high pitched voice to go with his “soccer mom haircut.” AJ says he’s going to take Ambrose’s title belt on Sunday, just like he took Cena’s headband by beating him clean in a WWE ring. Ambrose says he beat AJ before and he’ll beat him again. Ambrose calls him “the face that comes in second place,” so AJ delivers a kick to the groin of Ambrose. AJ stands over Ambrose as SmackDown goes off the air.

Jim Ross On Alberto Del Rio and Paige Relationship Rumors, CM Punk’s UFC Debut This Saturday

5

In his latest blog entry on jrsbarbq.com, Jim Ross offers his thoughts on recent rumors regarding Alberto Del Rio and Paige’s relationship, CM Punk’s debut fight this Saturday at UFC 203, the WWE Network, and more. Highlights are as follows:

CM Punk’s UFC debut this Saturday against Mickey Gall:

Doing a great deal of MMA related media the past few days to discuss the upcoming UFC debut of former WWE star CM Punk this Saturday on PPV. Punk has an uphill struggle considering that he;s never fought in this environment before but I’d never count him out especially when one factors in the 4 ounce glove element. To create a buzz, perhaps Punk should actually embrace his pro wrestling legacy this week, instead of knocking it as some perceive, as many MMA fans will buy the PPV to see Punk get hammered Saturday night while Punk’s wrestling fans will buy to hopefully see Punk win.

UFC was strategic in signing Punk as his presence will enhance what appears to otherwise be a not so special PPV event. I’m certainly going to buy the show.

Bottom line is that Punk’s WWE created celebrity and the curiosity element will likely lead to a decent number of PPV buys Saturday night in Cleveland.

Recent rumors regarding Alberto Del Rio and Paige:

Personal relationships within the pro wrestling business are daunting. I’ve said that for years. Most ‘pro wrestling romances’ aren’t successful over the long haul but the point is that no company will ever have any success in legislating such. I’m not sure that any companies are attempting to intervene, namely WWE and the Alberto Del Rio/Paige relationship. I’m not a believer of every internet rumor that I read nor do I think that WWE would condone such interactions with staff and talents.

It’s impossible to dictate personal relationships in any business especially when those in question are independent contractors. If Paige is totally committed in her personal life with ADR, and which she has the right to pursue, I’d be surprised if she returns to WWE any time soon.

Hope I’m wrong as it relates to the apparent, troubled careers of both talents.

Scott Hall Removed From Airport Bar By Police

29

WWE Hall of Famer Scott Hall was kicked out of a bar in the Atlanta airport over the weekend for allegedly cursing at a female bartender.

According to TMZ, Hall was drinking beers and tequila shots at a T.G.I. Friday’s on Saturday afternoon when he got into an altercation with the bartender. Hall allegedly hit on her and called her a bitch. The woman’s father happened to be at the bar and and called over the manager, who asked Hall to leave. When he refused, they called the cops.

Cops responded to the intoxicated person call and recognized Hall when they arrived. The situation was diffused and Hall was not arrested. Here’s video of what went down:

Will Ospreay To Work A Reduced Schedule Due To Injuries

3

Will Ospreay will be taking some time off in the near future to heal undisclosed injuries. Ospreay is widely regarded as one of the top independent wrestlers in the world. Unfortunately, his exciting, high-flying style comes at a price. “I’m not going to make the extent or my injuries public and being honest it’s nothing to be scared about or fear for my life. But if I carry on doing the style of matches I do at the rate I do them at my body has no time to recover and that’s when I’m gonna get hurt,” he revealed on Instagram.

“I’m going to honour some of my commitments as a champion in other places, and filling out my duties in touring with NJPW but once I’m in my home country I need to rest.” He urged his fans not to panic, as he’s able to walk and is relatively healthy. “But it comes a point where your body can only take so much and I’m making the adult decision to give my body time to heal.”

Eva Marie Update, Roman Reigns Vest Petition Trends

40

Despite serving a 30 day suspension from WWE for violating the talent Wellness policy, Eva Marie is still permitted to work on WWE’s Total Divas series. She’s been in the Bahamas along with her husband Jonathan, The Miz and Maryse filming scenes for the upcoming season. Not a bad way to serve a suspension.

– There’s a ridiculous Roman Reigns petition at Change.org, thanks to a user known as “Mike Huck.” He’s petitioned Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, Jack Tunney, Mick Foley, John McCain, Tony Cardenas, Barack Obama, Francisco Aguilar, and Elijah Cummings over Reigns’ “illegal” vest. The petition has made it to Facebook’s trends list and currently has almost 4,000 supporters. Below is the description:

Require Roman Reigns to remove his ILLEGAL vest during the course of WWE competition.

Roman Reigns has been systematically breaking the rules of Admiral-Lord Mountevans Unified Rules of Professional Wrestling through the use of illegal body armor to protect himself during the course of matches with legitimately dressed competitors, and has been doing so throughout his career.

We require swift action that prohibits the use of this body armor in all future WWE contests by Mr. Reigns and anyone else.

RVD & Sabu On VICE Show, More Success For The Rock, Natalya Working With Popular Trainer

2

– Former ECW & WWE stars Rob Van Dam and Sabu will be appearing on Thursday’s episode of “Traveling the Stars: Ancient Aliens with Action Bronson and Friends” on VICE’s new VICELAND channel.

– We recently reported that WWE Smackdown Superstar Natalya has been working out to get in better ring shape over the past year. Both Nattie and Alicia Fox sat down to speak with “The National” to discuss their fitness regimen as well as the new era for women in the WWE. Natalya notes that she’s been working with Rob MacIntyre of the “Hard Knocks South” gym, who’s also worked with stars such as John Cena. Natalya had this to say regarding her progress and goals:

“My coach, Rob MacIntyre, trained Olympians and (fellow WWE wrestlers) John Cena, Nikki Bella, Cesaro, and the list goes on. He has helped streamline my workout through an app he’s designed called Mogy. If I have only half an hour, I’ll go into my app find a workout that he’s designed for me and focus on just a few lifts. I’ll focus on doing a few Olympic lifts that work my whole body.

The workout is very important so that I warm-up my body for a match. I’ll go into Rob’s app and I’ll find three lifts I like: I’ll do a clean and jerk combo, I’ll do some Olympic dead lifts and some squats. If I don’t have a lot of time, I won’t lift really heavy, I’ll lift for reps. If I have more time, I lift heavier weights. I have a weightlifting belt I wear. It’s really awesome. The Olympic lift helped me a lot with my in-ring performance. If I only have 30 minutes, Rob recommends low weight and high reps.”

What Happened After RAW With Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns (Video)

9

After last night’s WWE RAW from Kansas City went off the air, Chris Jericho and WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens teamed up to beat down Roman Reigns. Seth Rollins ran down to ringside to make the save for Reigns, but wound up getting a spear from Reigns. The show ended with Reigns celebrating to a mixed reaction from the crowd.

Rollins coming to the ring to help Roman Reigns getting beat down by two heels is certainly a babyface move. Rollins wrestled Jericho on RAW and challenges the heel champion Kevin Owens in the main event of Clash of Champions. All signs are pointing to a full Seth Rollins babyface turn, which we can’t complain about. Many people were pushing for Rollins to return from his knee injury as a fan favorite, especially with the great WWE 24 special focusing on his road to recovery. Finn Balor’s SummerSlam injury at the hands of Seth seem to have put Seth on course for a big run as the top babyface on RAW.

Here’s footage of Reigns spearing Rollins:

WWE Cruiserweight Division: Updated Roster, Plans For RAW & NXT

29

WWE’s Cruiserweight Division is set to premiere on the RAW brand in less than two weeks and we’ve got a pretty good idea of how the roster will look. Following last night’s show, the following names will be featured on Monday Night RAW starting 9/19:

  • Johnny Gargano
  • Tommaso Ciampa
  • Brian Kendrick
  • Rich Swann
  • Noam Dar
  • TJ Perkins
  • Cedric Alexander
  • Akira Tozawa
  • Jack Gallagher
  • Gran Metalik

There are several WWE Superstars on the RAW roster that could work Cruiserweight matches and more names will be added in the months ahead, but these are the 10 men who will round out the division for now.

In recent weeks there have been reports that WWE is creating a new Cruiserweight Championship for the division, but it remains to be seen how the first champion will be crowned. WWE could award a championship to the winner of the Cruiserweight Classic tournament, but CWC favorites Kota Ibushi and Zach Sabre Jr. are not signed to WWE and are not expected to be part of RAW in the immediate future.

RAW’s cruiserweights will work RAW and NXT television, NXT live events and eventually RAW live events as well.

More On Miz & Bryan’s Talking Smack Segment, Nakamura & Roode’s Entrances In 360

14

– The recent Talking Smack segment featuring Daniel Bryan and The Miz was loosely scripted, but WWE officials were surprised with how it played out. Both men were given some leeway with what they could say, but few people expected it to get the attention it did. While The Miz cut one of the best promos of his career and showed a fire rarely tapped into by the Intercontinental champion, there’s also a feeling that it won’t lead to a real payoff since Daniel Bryan can’t wrestle.

– With Curt Hawkins returning to WWE television soon as part of the SmackDown brand, the former tag team champion stopped by the Performance Center in Orlando to check out the world class training facility.

– WWE has posted a new video looking at the 4 hottest free agents in WWE, including The Undertaker, The Rock, Luke Harper and Emma. As noted over the weekend, Luke Harper is headed to the Performance Center this week to see how his knee is doing after undergoing ACL surgery back in March.

– WWE has released two more 360 degree videos from NXT Takeover. Below, you can experience Bobby Roode and Shinsuke Nakamura’s entrances like never before. You can control the videos with your mouse or by tilting your mobile device.

Ember Moon Talks About Goals In NXT, Her Unique In-Ring Style

2

NXT newcomer Ember Moon was recently interviewed by Byron Saxton for WWE.com. After making her successful debut at Takeover: Brooklyn, we’re starting to learn more about her background. Ember moon reveals why she decided to train at Booker T’s Texas-based Reality of Wrestling Academy.

“After training with Vance [Archer, and General Skandor Akbar], I drove five hours for a tryout and made the cuts to be part of Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling promotion in Houston,” she said. “In addition to being able to work his shows, I received full access to his training facility. Booker was the one who helped me hone in on the high-flying aspect of my move set. Even though I was really comfortable in the ring, Booker gave me the confidence and motivation that I really needed to succeed in the wrestling world.”

She describes her in-ring style as unpredictable and a blend of lucha libre and strong style. As for her goals in NXT, she wants to raise the bar set by the Four Horsewomen of NXT (Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Bayley).

“They changed the way people view the Women’s division, and I want to continue that. I am not a porcelain princess; I am here to break barriers. I not only want to change women’s wrestling, but I also want to change the industry as a whole. This is the path they choose and the war I will take up arms for. It is a new beginning and I am ready for it.”

Alexa Bliss On Joining The Main Roster, Training For WWE Backlash

1

SmackDown Women’s competitor Alexa Bliss recently spoke with “For The Win” to promote her feature in the new Muscle & Fitness Hers magazine. Bliss will be part of the Six Pack Challenge this Sunday at WWE Backlash to crown the first-ever SmackDown Women’s Champion. As somebody who trains her body in a variety of ways, FTW asked how she will train specifically for this match.

“My preparation is focusing less on the other women in the ring,” Bliss said. “I’m focusing on how this is the first-ever SmackDown Live women’s championship and what I can do to the best of my abilities to make sure I’m the last person standing. The other girls can do what they can do, but it’s not going to match up to what I’m going to do.”

The 25-year old former body builder’s real name is Alexis Kaufman. “Alexa” is obviously inspired by Alexis, but what was the origin of the Bliss last name? “It was one of the names that I pitched. At the time, I was playing around with being a Southern Belle-type character in NXT and always say, Bless Your Heart. For a Southern woman to say that, it was kind of in an insulting tone. It ended up more like, ‘Bliss Your Heart.’ It became a play on words and not meaning a good thing and there are so many ways to take it, ‘Blissed Off’ and ‘Bliss Slap.’ I know if it got approved, it would be so much fun to play with.”

Bliss was drafted to SmackDown roughly six weeks ago. There have been a lot of changes involved with being on the road with WWE full time, most notably the larger crowds and the schedule. “We kept a very busy schedule in NXT, but it was more group oriented. You just assume everyone in NXT is going everywhere. Now everyone gets their own schedule with where to be on what day. I like it better. It’s a lot easier to work on my own schedule in when I’m working out, when I’m getting in the ring and training on off days.”

She added that doing television on a weekly basis can be a little nerve-wracking, but it’s also exciting. Especially with SmackDown being live, she’s had to get comfortable working without a “safety net.”

WWE Monday Night Raw Reaction (9/5)

26

Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon had an interesting discussion backstage to kickoff the show. Foley asked Stephanie why he should believe that she knew absolutely nothing about her husband Triple H’s involvement in last week’s main-event on Raw. Stephanie McMahon was able to convince Foley that she was telling the truth because she stated that she was embarrassed by her husband’s actions. Foley said he had to believe her because if he didn’t, that would make Stephanie a great liar and a terrible person.

Kevin Owens came down to the ring in a suite to celebrate himself being the WWE Universal Champion. Foley and McMahon were in the ring. Foley went to shake Kevin Owens’ hand but Owens blew right past him. There was then a ridiculous pyro for Owens as he stood on the turnbuckle. There were balloons all over the crowd and the audience greeted Owens with a “you deserve it!” chant. Kevin Owens then insulted the crowd and the audience booed. Kevin Owens then stated from now on Monday Night Raw is officially known as the Kevin Owens show. Seth Rollins then interrupted and angrily walked towards the ring. Seth Rollins started screaming at Stephanie McMahon. Rollins asked how she could do this to him after all he had done for her and Stephanie continued to claim that she had no idea that Triple H would attack him. Rollins wound up attacking Kevin Owens which led to Stephanie McMahon announcing that Rollins was indefinitely suspended. Foley then interjected and said that Rollins wasn’t suspended. Instead, Foley awarded Rollins with a shot at the Universal Championship at WWE Clash of Champions.

Reaction: Overall, this was an entertaining way to open up the show. I’m still more interested to hear what Triple H has to say about the matter. It would be pretty obvious if Stephanie McMahon is lying to Foley. I hope they are going in a different direction with this story. I’d like to see something different come of this, rather than The Authority reuniting with Kevin Owens as the chosen one instead of Seth Rollins.

Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon were arguing backstage when Kevin Owens confronted them. Owens was annoyed that Foley awarded Rollins attacking him with a title shot. Foley responded by putting Kevin Owens in a match tonight versus Sami Zayn. Chris Jericho then sauntered up with his ridiculous scarf and started screaming at Foley. Jericho called him a stupid idiot. Foley didn’t appreciate that and put Jericho in a match with Seth Rollins later in the show. During this segment, Jericho referred to Kevin Owens as the longest reigning Universal Champion in history. Seven days and counting.

Bayley vs Charlotte

Charlotte controlled most of the match before the commercial break. When Raw returned, Charlotte was still in control but was getting frustrated with the referee. Charlotte wanted a faster count but the referee ignored her. This gave Bayley enough time to recover and she went on the attack. Her momentum was short- lived as Charlotte kneed Bayley’s leg. Charlotte had been targeting the leg the entire match. Dana Brooke was ringside with a clipboard and was instructed by Charlotte to take notes. The match ended with Bayley battling back and knocking Charlotte into Dana Brooke. Charlotte turned around and walked right into a Bayley to Belly. After the match, Charlotte slapped Dana Brooke in the face backstage.

Winner: Bayley

Bo Dallas vs Kyle Roberts

Bo came down with a “Bo-lieve in Bo” sign. Bo Dallas destroyed Kyle Roberts in under a minute. Bo Dallas was more aggressive in this match. He had an insane look in his eyes as he did his trot around the ring after winning the match. Michael Cole even commented that we are seeing a brand new Bo tonight. It appears that Bo Dallas has turned from Mufasa into Scar overnight.

Chris Jericho vs Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins stormed down to the ring and dominated the match early. Jericho was able to turn the momentum by dragging the referee in front of Rollins and then hitting Rollins with a Dropkick that sent him flying off the apron. When Raw returned from a commercial, it turned into a back and forth match. Rollins was beating down Jericho in the corner for forearms to the face. Rollins went to knee Jericho in the head but it was countered into the Walls of Jericho. Kevin Owens was watching backstage and he witnessed Rollins power his way to the bottom rope to break the hold. At this point the crowd was behind Rollins and very into the match. Rollins went for a Frog Splash off of the top rope but Jericho rolled out of the way. Jericho then hit the Lionsault but Rollins kicked out at two. Rollins was then able to connect with a Pedigree for the victory.

Winner: Seth Rollins

Reaction: This was a really solid match. Rollins gained some momentum heading into Clash of Champions in three weeks and the crowd has already got behind him.

Best of 7 Series: Sheamus vs Cesaro

In their second match, Sheamus sent Cesaro flying into the ring post and Cesaro injured his back. Cesaro came down to the ring with tape all over his back. Cesaro fought back as long as he could but his injury wound up costing him. Sheamus hit the Brogue Kick on Cesaro for the victory. Match #4 will take place this Wednesday in London.

Winner & Leading the Series 3-0: Sheamus

The Shining Stars vs Enzo & Big Cass

Enzo and Cass cut a promo before the match. They claimed that listening to The Shining Stars is just as painful as going into labor. Enzo then pretended to give birth in the middle of ring. Big Cass and Enzo then named the non-existent baby SAWFT in honor of The Shining Stars. Epico and Primo dominated Enzo Amore in the beginning of the match. Primo went to dive onto Enzo in the corner but Enzo rolled out of the way. This allowed Enzo to tag in Big Cass. Big Cass hit the Empire Elbow on Primo. Cass then tagged in Enzo. Big Cass when The Shining Stars got the victory via a roll-up.

Winners: The Shining Stars

Reaction: Once again, Enzo Amore is the reason Cass and Amore lost a match. It would appear that Big Cass and Enzo Amore aren’t going to be a tag team much longer. The only way I see them sticking together is if they start winning matches. One would assume that Big Cass would get fed up with losing and start pursuing a championship of his own. I’m not saying that is what I want to happen. I think Enzo & Cass are a fun tag team and should be vying for the titles. As of now, that doesn’t seem likely.

Nia Jax vs Ann Esposito

Esposito actually got in some offense in the beginning of the match. However, Nia Jax quickly turned the tables and won yet another squash match.

Winner: Nia Jax

Anderson and Gallows came down to the ring and introduced “The Old Day”. Three people dressed as elderly members of The New Day then came down to the ring. What followed was a truly terrible promo. The crowd was dead silent as The Club insulted The Old Day. The person dressed as old Big E pretended to soil himself. The New Day then came out and the horrific promo continued. The New Day went to get into the ring to attack Gallows and Anderson but they rolled out of the ring. The New Day then danced in the ring as The Old Day danced in the background. The New Day then beat up The Old Day.

Reaction: Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston and Big E have demonstrated that they can be very entertaining in the past. In my opinion, they haven’t been entertaining for a pretty substantial amount of time now. I don’t think placing them in a promo as awful as this did them any favors. As for The Club, they aren’t entertaining either. They arrived to the WWE as a dominant force and have quickly been turned into a comedy act. This promo did nothing for the feud and created zero interest for their title match at Clash of Champions. All I really wanted to do during this promo was change the channel. If The New Day drops the titles to The Club at Clash of Champions, will anyone care? They are a less funny version of The New Day. I could go on and on about how awful this segment was but honestly I just want to erase it from my brain.

Darren Young vs Jinder Mahal

Titus O’Neil joined commentary for this match. Incredible. Darren Young won the match even though O’Neil tried to distract him. Darren Young then attacked Titus outside the ring. Finally, the referees broke them up. Bob Backlund raised Young’s hand in the ring and O’Neil retreated.

Winner: Darren Young

Alicia Fox and Nia Jax had a confrontation backstage. Alicia Fox was checking on her friend Ann Esposito when Nia Jax showed up to brag about her victory earlier. Fox started whipping objects around and one of them struck Nia. Jax then shoved Alicia Fox onto a table and walked away.

Braun Strowman vs Sin Cara

Sin Cara requested this match because Strowman ripped off his mask last week. Sin Cara got in some offense but eventually was defeated by Strowman. Sin Cara was tossed around outside the ring and Strowman got back into the ring and won via count out. Strowman then beat down Sin Cara outside the ring. Strowman then shouted “get out of my ring!” at Sin Cara, even though he was already laying outside the ring.

Winner: Braun Strowman

Sasha Banks came down to the ring and delivered an emotional speech. Sasha Banks finally was about to address the bad news she had to tell the WWE Universe but Dana Brooke. Sasha then got Dana Brooke in the Bank Statement and announced that the bad news was for Charlotte. Sasha Banks will get her title rematch at Clash of Champions.

Reaction: There was a brief moment where I actually thought Sasha Banks was retiring. Thankfully, that is not the case. There was some massive tool in the crowd that was chanting “boring” during this segment. I found that to be incredibly annoying. Other than that, this was a good segment that had me fooled for a bit.

Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens

Earlier in the night, Owens and Zayn had a confrontation backstage. Kevin Owens stated that winning the Universal Championship proved he was the better man. Zayn stated that one day he will win the Universal Championship and that he wouldn’t need Triple H to hand it to him on a silver platter. The match started off back and forth. Sami Zayn got the upper-hand as Raw went to commercial. When Raw returned, Owens was in control of the match. Owens hit a Running Senton on Zayn and then taunted him. Owens screamed that he was the Universal Champion and slapped Zayn in the face. Zayn then got up and slapped Owens in the face. Zayn then sent Owens outside the ring and flipped on top of him. Zayn then flipped onto Owens again outside the ring. Zayn rolled Owens into the ring and hit the Blue Thunder Bomb. Kevin Owens was able to kick out at two and Zayn looked frustrated. There were dueling “let’s go Sami” and “fight Owens fight” chants in the crowd. Zayn hit an Exploder Suplex on Owens into the the turnbuckle. Kevin Owens went for a Powerbomb on the ring apron but Zayn fought out of it. Owens was able to connect with the Cannonball on Zayn. Owens went for the Pop-up Powerbomb but Zayn avoided it. Zayn had a bad landing on his ankle and played up an injury. The referee asked if Zayn wanted to stop the match but Sami refused. Zayn was going for the Helluva Kick but his ankle gave out. Kevin Owens then hit a Superkick and followed it up with a Powerbomb for the victory.

Immediately after the match ended, Roman Reigns came down to the ring. Chris Jericho then came down to the ring to help out Owens. Mick Foley then came down to the ring and made a match for next week’s Monday Night Raw. Roman Reigns will face off against Kevin Owens next week. If Reigns wins, he will be added to the Universal Championship match at Clash of Champions. Jericho tried to ambush Roman but Reigns hit him with a Spear to end the show.

Winner: Kevin Owens

Reaction: The main-event was solid. There were a few other entertaining segments in this show but there also was a lot of filler. It makes sense for Roman Reigns to have a chance at the title because Triple H also cost him his shot at the belt last week on Raw. Overall, this was a pretty forgettable episode.
