Kofi starts off against Anderson and lays him out with a flying back elbow to the take control. Enzo gets the tag and they hit double cross body splashes and double dropkicks on the heels, before turning against each other. Corbin blocks one Fameasser, but Ziggler successfully hits it on his second attempt for a near-fall. AJ Styles def. John Cena: The crowd is hot for this one. Cena and Styles lock up and trade holds in the opening minutes. Cena can be heard pretty clearly on the WWE Network feed giving instructions to AJ when he’s in the side headlock. Cena hits a series of takedowns and goes for the Attitude Adjustment but AJ gets out and hits a series of right hands and chops. AJ continues with the offense, but Cena comes back with a belly to belly suplex for a one count. AJ avoids taking any more damage and goes to work on Cena, hitting a knee drop and a vertical suplex. AJ Styles said “shit” at one point and it was censored on the WWE Network. Cena hits a big back body drop and a couple shoulder tackles, but AJ comes back with a dropkick. AJ hits a hurricanrana that sends Cena to the outside and AJ follows up with a suicide dive. AJ goes back in the ring for a second dive, but misses this one. Cena goes for the Attitude Adjustment off the top, but AJ fights him off. AJ goes for the Phenomenal Forearm but Cena catches him in the Attitude Adjustment position. Styles gets out and locks Cena in the Calf Crusher, but Cena gets to the ropes. AJ works on Cena with leg kicks, but Cena comes back with a big clothesline and hits the AA for a near-fall. Cena can still be heard on the WWE Network giving instructions to Styles. Cena comes off the top rope but AJ catches him and drops him with a powerbomb for a near-fall of his own. AJ hits a Pele Kick and a Styles Clash on Cena, but Cena kicks out at the 2 count. AJ goes for a 450 splash off the top rope, but Cena gets his knees up for the block. AJ and Cena repeatedly try their signature moves on each other but they keep evading them. Cena gets AJ up for the AA, but the referee got knocked down in the commotion and there’s no one to count the pin. Gallows and Anderson come out and hit the Magic Killer on Cena and pull AJ ontop of him. The referee gets back in and counts to three.

Dean Ambrose def. Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens, Cesaro and Sami Zayn: As soon as the bell rings everyone starts brawling, and eventually Sami Zayn hits a big suicide dive over the top rope onto everyone else on the floor at ringside. Jericho uses a ladder as a weapon to take control of the match, until Ambrose gets him from behind and body slams him into the ladder. Jericho comes back with a vertical suplex into the ladder. Cesaro hits the ring and cleans house with European uppercuts. Owens lays him out with a superkick then hits cannonballs and everyone sitting the corners. Sami Zayn hits a t bone suplex on Owens into Jericho, then hits them both with big boots. Del Rio goes to work on Zayn with a ladder, then hits a double foot stomp on Cesaro onto a ladder. Del Rio and Cesaro climb a ladder in the middle of the ring and Del Rio gets him in an armbar on the ladder, until Owens superkicks him in the face. Jericho and Zayn climb the ladder, but Owens pushes them both off and climbs it himself. Del Rio hits the backstabber on Owens off the ladder, then lays the ladder across the turnbuckle. Ambrose knocks Owens off the standing ladder into another ladder, then grabs the briefcase for the win.

Rusev (c) def. Titus O’Neil: Rusev rolls to the outside as soon as the bell rings and the two men brawl all around ringside in the opening minutes of the match. Titus’ kids are in the front row. Back in the ring, Rusev works on Titus in the corner and hits a spinning heel kick for a 1 count. Rusev hits a variation of the swanton bomb and continues the beat down on Titus. Titus sidesteps a splash in the corner and hits a pumphandle slam for a 2 count. Titus hits a splash in the corner and a big boot, then a spinebuster for another 2. Titus hits another pumphandle slam for anther near-fall. Rusev hits a couple kicks and gets Titus in the Accolade for the win. Rusev cuts a promo on Titus’ kids after the match.

New WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins def. Roman Reigns: The two former Shield members trade holds and takedowns in the opening minutes, and Roman seems to get the upper hand until Rollins sends him to the outside with a dropkick and a knee to the back. Rollins dives through the middle ropes onto Roman at ringside, then hits a couple running elbows on him back in the ring. Roman comes back with a Samoan drop, and after several minutes of offense he hits a tilt-a-whirl powerslam for a near-fall. Rollins tries to mount a comeback, but Reigns sits him on the top rope and sends him to the outside with a right hand. Cole and JBL keep saying this is a “new Roman Reigns,” as Reigns and Rollins brawl around ringside. Back in the ring, Reigns hits a Razor’s Edge into a powerbomb on Rollins for another near-fall. Rollins gets up and sends Reigns to the outside, and follows up with a successful dive through the middle ropes onto him, and then connects with a suicide dive over the top rope onto the Champ. Back in the ring, he hits the slingblade for a 2 count on Reigns. Rollins goes for the Pedigree, but Reigns gets out and hits the Superman punch for a 2-count. Rollins hits a series of kicks and knees to Reigns, then a frog splash off the top for another 2-count. Rollins hits a turnbuckle powerbomb and a superkick for another near-fall. Rollins hits a few forearm shots in the corner, then takes things to the top rope. Rollins superplexes Reigns off the top rope and rolls into a Falcon Arrow, he pins and gets another 2-count. Reigns gets out of a Pedigree attempt and hits a sit out powerbomb for a 2-count. They trade blows in the middle of the ring until Rollins powerbombs Reigns into the corner, but Reigns no-sells it and Superman punches him. Rollins kicks out at 2. They take things to the outside and Reigns misses a spear, crashing through the fan barricade by himself. A doctor comes out to check on Reigns. Rollins takes things back in the ring and there’s a ref bump, which leads to Reigns only getting a 2-count for a spear. Reigns goes for another spear, but Rollins jumps and catches him in mid-air with a Pedigree for a 2-count. Rollins hits another Pedigree for the win.

– Ambrose’s music hits and he comes out with his Money In The Bank briefcase, and we have a match!

Jerry Lawler Released From Jail, Jim Ross Comments On Lawler’s Arrest

40

Both Jerry Lawler and his fiancée, Lauryn McBride posted bail and have been released from jail. They are each scheduled for court on Monday morning for arraignment.

In his latest blog over at JRsBarBQ.com, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross said that he was “shocked” to hear of Lawler’s arrest:

“Allegedly alcohol was a contributing factor in this matter that resulted in Jerry being suspended indefinitely from WWE  as WWE has a zero tolerance policy as it relates to domestic violence issues.

For the record, Jerry doesn’t drink whatsoever nor have I ever seen him act aggressively toward any female or anyone else for that matter. I have not spoken to Jerry recently and hope that this unfortunate matter can be resolved quickly and efficiently.”

Cedric Alexander Talks About WWE’s Cruiserweight Classic, Dropping 20+ Pounds To Qualify

9

Former Ring Of Honor star Cedric Alexander recently appeared as a guest on the Pancakes & Powerslams podcast and talked about his involvement in this summer’s WWE Cruiserweight Classic tournament. Alexander revealed that he actually had to drop over 20 pounds to qualify, which he was glad to do. Here are some highlights of what he said about

Having To Drop Weight To Qualify For The Cruiserweight Classic:

“I received the opportunity from a tryout I had back in February. In my mind, I was just going to test my worth as a wrestler to see what critics thought of me, because I was still wrestling for Ring of Honor at the time. During the tryout, I was pulled aside and asked, hey, could you drop some weight, because at the time I was weighing about 225-230. They said could you drop some weight because your style fits well with this Cruiserweight thing we have in the works. I said, yeah! I’ll lose the weight as soon as I get home! I’ll start working on it asap! And from that point on, it’s been a journey of busting my butt nonstop to get down to this 205.”

Leaving Ring of Honor:

“I actually told ROH about the tryout I was having. Everything was cool, and the cruiserweight thing was just a one-time shot from what I understood, so we’ll do this, but ROH is still there. But at some point, we just decided that it’s better that I focus on one thing and not try to do [multiple] things at once. We left on good terms, and if a time ever shows up that I can come back, then I will.”

What To Expect In The Cruiserweight Classic:

“I’ll probably be one of the highest-flying, hardest-hitting guys in the ring. You can expect me to win this cruiserweight classic, because I lost 22 pounds to get in this bad boy, and I’m not going to do that for nothing. I’m coming out for a win.”

Jerry Lawler Comments On His Arrest & WWE Suspension

122

Jerry Lawler spoke with WMCActionNews5 from jail earlier today about his early morning domestic violence arrest and subsequent indefinite suspension from WWE.

Lawler said that he wrestled in Memphis last night at an event ironically named, “A Night in the Slammer.” When he got home, his fiancée drunk and they started fighting.

“When she drinks we get into a little bit of a shouting match and then she wants to leave,” Lawler said over the phone from jail. “I was not going to let her leave in the car, because she was not in any condition to drive. She got more and more upset.”

He and his fiancée told police very different versions of what happened, which is what led to both of them being arrested. When asked if he had a message to his fans about the arrest, Lawler said,

“It’s an unfortunate situation as a result of someone drinking too much. I’m saddened by it and hope we can get past this.”

WWE Smackdown Reaction 6/16/2016

2

This week’s episode of WWE Smackdown kicked off with a Highlight Reel segment. Chris Jericho claimed that the rug he was standing on in the ring cost $20,000. Dean Ambrose came down to the ring as the guest on the Highlight Reel and instantly taunted Jericho over the expensive rug. Ambrose pretended to spill his coffee several times while Jericho flipped out. The rest of the competitors in the Money in the Bank ladder match this Sunday all came down to the ring. Jericho, Del Rio and Owens will be squaring off against Zayn, Ambrose and Cesaro later in the show. Jericho was rambling on about how his team is going to beat the team of Ambrose, Cesaro and Zayn. That is when Ambrose finally decided to pour his coffee on the $20,000 rug. This led to a brawl in the ring.

Reaction: I’ve never really understood the Jericho and Ambrose feud. They are fighting over plants, jackets and now a rug. It’s a little too goofy for me. The matches between the two are entertaining though.

Big Cass vs Aiden English vs Kofi Kingston vs Luke Gallows

During Enzo Amore’s entrance, Big E and the New Day completely cut him off while he was talking. Kofi Kingston wound up getting the victory over Aiden English after hitting the Trouble in Paradise. This was a pretty quick match. Even though every other member of the tag teams in the match were standing around outside the ring, there was no brawl or anything of note that happened after the match. Enzo Amore and Xavier Woods joined the announcer’s table for this match and that as entertaining as the match itself.

Zack Ryder vs Baron Corbin

Dolph Ziggler joined the announcer’s table for this match. Zack Ryder got in a few moves early in the match, however Corbin quickly turned the tides. Corbin got the pinfall victory after hitting the End of Days. After the match, Corbin walked up to Ziggler and looked like he was going to attack him. Ziggler took his headset off and was telling Corbin to bring it on. Corbin smirked and walked away.

Reaction: The Corbin and Ziggler feud feels like it has gone on forever. There have been some entertaining moments during the feud, I’m just hoping that their match at Money in the Bank is the end of it.

Rusev vs Kalisto

Kalisto was in the middle of doing his flip into the ring during his entrance when Rusev caught him and beat him down. Sin Cara came out and tried to help, but Rusev was able to get the upper-hand on him too. Titus O’Neil then came out and Rusev tried to get away, but Titus caught up to him. Titus was able to get in a couple of shots before Rusev scampered backstage.

Reaction: When Titus O’Neil first confronted Rusev, I thought it was a breathe of fresh air. Fast forward a few weeks and they are pretty much doing the same exact thing every show. Rusev attacks someone and Titus runs down to help. Hopefully their match for the United States Championship at Money in the Bank will be good, I don’t see Rusev losing the belt so soon but what do I know?

The Club was being interviewed by Renee Young backstage when the New Day showed up and proceeded to make fun of AJ Styles’ ridiculous haircut. This led to AJ Styles challenging Xavier Woods to a singles match, with both the Club and the New Day banned from ringside.

AJ Styles vs Xavier Woods

AJ Styles relentlessly attacked Xavier Woods’ knee throughout the match. Xavier Woods barely got in any offense and when he did it was quickly stopped by Styles. However, Xavier Woods was able to put together a good sequence culminating in an Elbow Drop from the top rope on Styles. However, it was not meant to be for Xavier Woods on this night he tapped out to the Calf Crusher. After the match, Styles kicked Xavier Woods out of the ring and claimed that is just a taste of what he is going to do to John Cena.

Reaction: This was a good match that served it’s purpose. AJ Styles gets the win and acts like a pompous jerk after the match. Glorious. Cena vs Styles should be very entertaining at Money in the Bank this Sunday.

Charlotte vs Natalya

Both Dana Brooke and Becky Lynch were ringside so it was inevitable this match was going to have a bizarre end to it. Dana Brooke was taunting Natalya with the WWE Women’s Championship when Becky Lynch attacked her. Brooke dropped the title in the ring during the attack, Charlotte through the title at Natalya’s feet and screamed for the ref to remove the title from the ring. As the ref was removing the title, Charlotte chop-blocked Natalya’s knee and then locked in the Figure-Eight for the victory.

Reaction: This reminded me of an Eddie Guerrero tactic. I kind of wish that the referee disqualified Natalya because he thought she was using the title. The tag team match between these four at Money in the Bank really has no buzz whatsoever. The only thing I can see happening that is interesting in that match is Dana Brooke turning on Charlotte and I’m not really sure how interesting that is anyway.

Dean Ambrose, Sami Zayn & Cesaro vs Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho & Alberto Del Rio

The match started out with everybody brawling, but wound up with Cesaro and Del Rio squaring off in the ring. Cesaro threw an upper-cut party for Del Rio, hitting him with several in a row. Cesaro put Del Rio in the Cesaro Swing, but Kevin Owens broke it up. Cesaro was then succesful in putting Kevin Owens in the Cesaro Swing but Chris Jericho broke it up. You guessed it, Cesaro then put Chris Jericho in the Cesaro Swing and then locked him in the Sharp Shooter. Jericho tapped out but he was not the legal man so the match continued.  After the commercial break, the momentum of the match had changed and Del Rio was now dominating Cesaro. However, that momentum was short lived as Cesaro hit a huge Drop Kick on Del Rio and Sami Zayn was tagged in. Del Rio was able to tag in Jericho, who was greeted by Sami Zayn flying off the top rope. Eventually, Dean Ambrose was tagged in and he cleaned house. Unfortunately, Ambrose took one risk too many and ran into a Backstabber by Alberto Del Rio.

Things started breaking down when Cesaro accidentally hit Ambrose with a European Uppercut. Sami Zayn then accidentally flipped onto Cesaro outside of the ring. Kevin Owens decided to take out both of his teammates, leaving only him and Ambrose in the ring. Once again, Dean Ambrose had no issues with Owens and quickly defeated him with the Dirty Deeds.

Reaction: It seems like Dean Ambrose has pinned Kevin Owens 1,000 times. This was a fun and unpredictable match. The Money in the Bank ladder match Sunday with these six performers has the potential to steal the show.

Will Ospreay Challenges Vader, Heated Twitter Exchange Ensues

51

International wrestling sensation Will Ospreay and WWE legend Vader got into a heated conversation on Twitter early Friday morning that started with Ospreay challenging Vader to a match. The challenge is in response to recent criticism from Vader, who was outspoken about Ospreay’s recent classic with Ricochet in New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Battle of the Super Juniors event. When the Ospreay-Ricochet match started getting some mainstream attention due to its state of the art action, Vader said the match displayed “blatant acrobatics with no story” and could have been performed by two high school gymnasts. Ospreay first responded to Vader with a nod to his Vader bomb finisher:

On Friday morning, he issued the challenge. Here’s the full exchange:

Jerry Lawler Arrested For Domestic Violence (Mugshot)

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler behind bars this morning after being arrested for domestic violence, according to WFSB.com.

Lawler, 66, and his fiancée Lauryn McGride, 27, allegedly got into an argument that turned violent and involved a gun. McBride tells Memphis police that Lawler held her against the kitchen counter, hit her in the head, pushed her against the stove, put a gun on the kitchen counter, and told her to “go ahead and kill yourself.”

Lawler told police the argument started when McBride lied about where she’d been. He claims McBride scratched him in the face, threw a candle at him, and kicked him in the groin. Lawler claims she was drunk and was threatening to kill herself.

Police officers were unable to determine who started the altercation, so both were arrested. They were both booked into the Shelby County Jail around 1am Friday. Lawler was previously arrested in 1999 for throwing a ticket at a Memphis police officer and running over his foot.
