Triple H’s NXT TakeOver: London Call: Sami Zayn’s Return, NXT Plans For 2016 & More

8

Triple H held his regular NXT conference call for the “TakeOver: London” special on the WWE Network next week and as usual, “The Game” dropped a couple of gems.

HHH noted during the call that former NXT Champion Sami Zayn will indeed be in action at the event live, but his match will not air as part of the TakeOver: London special. Instead, Zayn’s return match will be taped to air on the following Wednesday’s episode of NXT TV on the WWE Network.

Additionally, it appears that there will be a Fatal 4 Way and Elias Samson’s debut during the event in London, but those won’t be airing until the next NXT TV episode as well.

Triple H said WWE is looking at promoting more TakeOver specials airing in various time slots in the future, including one in Japan in 2016, due to the success of the “Beast In The East” WWE Network special earlier this year.

WWE posted the following photo on the official NXT Twitter page of Triple H taken during the NXT TakeOver: London conference call on Thursday morning.

Headlined by Finn Balor vs. Samoa Joe for the NXT Championship, NXT TakeOver: London is scheduled to air live on the WWE Network at 3pm EST. / Noon PST. from Wembley Arena in London, England.

Update On The Status Of ESPN SportsCenter’s Weekly WWE Coverage

5

For the second week in a row, there was no WWE segment or WWE Superstar interview on ESPN SportsCenter.

Last week, ESPN analyst and former WWE talent Jonathan Coachman claimed that they were simply taking a week off because he was out of Bristol to take care of different ESPN duties. This week, while Coachman is covering the UFC events in Las Vegas this weekend, he was available if a WWE segment was booked as ESPN’s coverage of the UFC shows didn’t start that early in the week.

Despite the two-week break, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that the weekly segment is not canceled, nor is it considered “on hiatus.” There is a WWE segment currently booked for the show next Tuesday, December 15th. No guest has been announced as of yet, but “The Coach” will be back with someone from the WWE roster for an interview in the usual time slot.

Brock Lesnar’s Return Not Drawing Well, Lesnar Possibly Working Three PPVs In A Row

36

In what is internally considered a big disappointment, the December 19th WWE live event at The Forum near Los Angeles, California has only sold under 5,000 tickets, despite Brock Lesnar working the show. John Cena was also advertised for the show originally, which only makes the figure that much more of a let down.

With the 12/19 date being just over a week away, it will obviously not be a live WWE Network special like his first two live events in Tokyo and Madison Square Garden were, as WWE would have begun the advertising by now, especially with ticket sales not moving as well as one would expect.

Lesnar is also scheduled to return to WWE television in the near future, as he is booked for the Royal Rumble pay-per-view in January. He will be appearing on multiple upcoming RAW shows starting in a couple of weeks.

One RAW date he is scheduled for that is particularly interesting is February 8th in Seattle, Washington, as it is a few weeks after the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, but a few weeks before the WWE Fast Lane pay-per-view. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that this indicates Lesnar will be working three pay-per-views in a row, as WrestleMania 32 follows the Fast Lane pay-per-view in February.

Daniel Bryan Says He Thinks His WWE Career Could Be Over

55

Unfortunately for Daniel Bryan fans, it looks like the “Yes! Era” could very well be over.

The New Paper out of Singapore recently interviewed Bryan while he was on his promotional tour in the area. During the interview, Bryan mentioned that his WWE career may be over. Below are some of the highlights.

On his wife Brie Bella:

“She’s beautiful and I look like this (laughs). There are certain frustrations that come with our job that can be hard to explain to people. So being there for somebody and to truly know and understand the frustrations is one of the things that have really brought us closer.”

On his WWE status and the injuries that have kept him from getting cleared by a WWE doctor:

“I think it could be the end of my career in WWE, but I don’t think it will be the end of my career. I could find another passion, but it would just be sad because this is what I have been most passionate about since I was five.”

Update On SmackDown Moving To USA Network, At Least One Significant Change Expected

22

As seen in his blog posted on Monday, WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross alluded to changes coming to WWE SmackDown when the show moves to the USA Network.

JR wrote the following:

“Expect some noticeable changes to WWE Smackdown when it moves to the USA Network in January. Hopefully, RAW and Smackdown will be more episodically produced after they both start airing on the same network.”

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported on Wednesday that “at least one significant change” is on the way.

While there aren’t many details regarding what the “significant” change or changes will be, it could be related to the look and production style of the show, or possibly some on-air talent changes, such as changes to the announce team.

As Ross noted in his blog, it could also have something to do with the fact that both shows will be on the same network, which would allow WWE to produce shows that are more episodic in nature.

WWE SmackDown premieres on the USA Network on Thursday, January 7, 2016.

First Look At Sheamus In TMNT (Photo), New Movie Franchise For The Rock?

25

– WWE Word Heavyweight Champion Sheamus posted the following promotional poster for his character in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. He plays the role of Rocksteady, a thug who is often joined by his trusty associate, Bebop.

The trailer for the movie will be released on Thursday.

– Speaking of wrestlers in movies, Deadline.com is reporting that The Rock has signed with New Line Cinema to star in a new action-comedy movie that will be co-produced by his company, Seven Bucks Productions. The movie will be directed by Will Gluck and written by Dave Callaham.

While there is no word on the plot of the currently untitled film, it’s expected to be a throwback to classic buddy action-comedies such as Lethal Weapon and 48 Hours. The hope is that this project will become a new franchise built around The Rock.

Sting Reveals He Will Require Neck Surgery

59

Sting was Ric Flair’s guest for this week’s WOOOOO! Nation podcast and revealed that he will require neck surgery to repair the damage sustained during his match against Seth Rollins at Night of Champions.

Sting said that his neck whiplashed during both buckle bombs by Seth Rollins. Sting says that after the first buckle bomb, he had shock going down his left and right thighs down both down to his fingertips. After the second buckle bomb, he began to lose strength in his legs and had a “temporary paralysis.” For a few minutes, he didn’t think he would be able to continue the match. He pushed through it until he needed to compose himself while a referee intervened.

Unfortunately, MRI results and his doctors have determined Sting will require surgery to correct what he believes is cervical spinal stenosis.

“Yeah, MRI’s and neurologists have been looking at it, Dr. Maroon out of Pittsburgh, he’s looked at it. He’s telling me that I’ll have to have a surgery,” Sting said. “The dust only in the last couple weeks has kind of started to settle a little bit for me, just trying to get so much done in life but now it’s time to go get this thing taken care of. No, I’m hoping (they don’t have to do a fusion surgery). I know that’s one of the techniques that they use and I’m not sure if Dr. Maroon will have to do that or not. I’ve got two spots in my neck that are troublesome. I guess it’s called cervical spinal stenosis. That’s what it is.

I have two areas in my neck where the spinal canal, which holds the spinal cord, it’s kind of choked off in two different locations. Lucky that a catastrophe didn’t happen that night, long story short. I’ve gotta go get it fixed. I guess John Cena had something very similar, he had his fixed, and Dr. Maroon has done several of the WWE guys up there and all with great success.”

There had been some speculation that WWE would reach out to Sting to compete at WrestleMania 32 if he was healthy to compete, but now that’s out of the question. Perhaps a WWE Hall of Fame induction is in order. Either way, we wish the Stinger a speedy recovery.

Would CM Punk Return To WWE For $50 Million?

114

With the recent downturn in WWE’s viewership and the overall quality of the product, a lot of ideas have been tossed around regarding how to improve the situation. One fan on Twitter reached out to CM Punk and said WWE would probably be willing to offer him $50 million to return. While WWE would almost certainly love to have Punk back in the fold, the Second City Saint doesn’t sound too interested.

Punk is currently in the midst of a lawsuit with WWE’s Dr. Chris Amann for comments made during the Colt Cabana Art Of Wrestling podcast that dropped around Thanksgiving 2014. He continues to train with Duke Roufus’ MMA camp in Milwaukee and is expected to make his UFC debut next summer.

Video: Chris Jericho Explains How He Would Like To End His Legendary Wrestling Career

12

Following yesterday’s highlights, the folks at WhatCulture.com have released additional excerpts from their one-on-one sit-down interview with part-time WWE Superstar Chris Jericho.

In today’s highlights, Jericho talks about how he found out he was going to be becoming WWE’s first-ever Undisputed Champion and explains how he would like to end his illustrious career. Below are some of the highlights, which you can also watch via the YouTube player embedded above.

On how he found out he was winning the WWE Undisputed Championship:

“I found out about it the day of the show, literally, that afternoon. And I’d heard, maybe, a couple of rumors about it here and there, but you never know and I’d heard rumors that other people were going to get it as well, so it was not a big, planned thing that you might expect, like, plans drawn out and dates and all that sort of stuff. Whether it was a last minute decision or it was something in the plans for a while, I knew about it that afternoon.”

On how he would like to end his legendary pro wrestling career:

“There will never be a retirement match. I’ll never have one. When I’m finished, it might be a house show in Wolverhampton [England], but when I’m done, I’ll know it and that’s it. There will be no retirement tour, no retirement match, no big WrestleMania sendoff. I don’t believe in that either. I think when you’re done, you’re done and I don’t need somebody to pat me on the back and say how great I am. I’d rather just ride off into the sunset and just disappear and that’s probably what’ll happen. It might’ve already happened. You don’t know!”

Global Force Wrestling Announces Live Events In New York & New Jersey

Global Force has announced live events in New York and New Jersey for January 2016:

Global Force Wrestling to invade the Northeast

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Global Force Wrestling will break new ground in 2016 as founder and CEO Jeff Jarrett brings his promotion to the Northeast, a hotbed of pro wrestling, for the first time to open the New Year.

It all kicks off with a Jan. 22 show at legendary wrestling venue the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, New York.

“Double J made his first-ever appearance in the Northeast at this venue in 1993,” said Paul Lloyd, president of the MHCC. “We are thrilled that GFW has chosen Poughkeepsie to be a part of its first tour of the area and we’re sure the rabid wrestling fans in this area will be eager to join the force.”

The next night, Jan. 23, will feature a co promotion between GFW and Pro Wrestling Syndicate from the Rahway (New Jersey) Rec Center. The card will include matches between GFW and PWS stars.

“We’re honored to be working with GFW,” PWS owner Pat Buck said. “Fans are going to see a great combination of global talent mixed with the stars of PWS.”

GFW NEX*GEN champion Sonjay Dutt, who took the belt from P.J. Black at Showcase of Champions in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in November, will defend his title, and stars such as GFW’s Jeff and Karen Jarrett and TNA’s Bobby Roode are scheduled to appear. More stars will be announced in the coming weeks. Check Globalforcewrestling.com or @GFWWrestling on Twitter.

“This is a great way to kick off what will be a monumental year for GFW,” said Jeff Jarrett, who also will wrestle on both shows. “We have promised from the outset to be the most interactive brand in professional wrestling, and we were inundated with requests from fans in New York and New Jersey to bring Global Force to the Northeast.”

Tickets for both events go on sale on Friday. For the Poughkeepsie card, you can go to the Mid-Hudson Civic Center box office or any Ticketmaster location, charge-by-phone 1-800-745-3000, or online at Ticketmaster.com. Videos: John Cena On The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon (12/8)

6

John Cena appeared on the NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy on Tuesday to promote his new movie, Sisters. Cena told Jimmy he’s doing a great job since taking over The Tonight Show. Fallon asked Cena if he has been relaxing during his time off from WWE. Cena says he’s actually been keeping extremely busy with his new show American Grit.

Cena talked about getting into weight training when he was 12 years after being encouraged by his grandfather. Cena said lifting weights built his confidence and eventually he got into bodybuilding competitions. Fallon joked that their lives were so similar. Fallon showed a photo of a 21-year-old Cena at a bodybuilding competition and Cena joked how he’s still taking his clothes off and getting oiled up for a living. Cena hyped the movie Sisters and Fallon complimented him for his work in Trainwreck.

Cena wound up singing a verse from Adele’s “Hello” with the wrong lyrics and gave an Attitude Adjustment to his “inner child” (watch and see).

Jim Ross Blog: Bray Wyatt As A Babyface, Reigns & Sheamus’ RAW Segment & More

13

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross updated his official blog at JRsBarBQ.com for the second time this week with his thoughts on Monday’s RAW, including the much-talked-about Roman Reigns and Sheamus segment, his thoughts on Bray Wyatt’s potential as a babyface and more. Below are some of the highlights.

On Roman Reigns & Sheamus’ performance on RAW:

“Like the fact that WWE is trying to create a faction with Sheamus and company. Whether it works or not is TBD but hopefully the four talents involved are contributing to the presentation. If they aren’t and it fails then they need to look in the mirror.

Roman Reigns will advance faster up the ladder and with a stronger foundation if more of the Roman TV persona is presented naturally and not so scripted or produced. For Roman to be put in a position to carry a long in ring promo isn’t fair to him or his fans. Always play to the talents’ strengths and long oratory isn’t one of Reigns strengths just yet.

Might just be me but do most fans think the ‘Tater Tot’ line is funny? It was cute the first time that I heard it on RAW and then it got old in a hurry.”

On Bray Wyatt’s babyface tease:

“Loved it when the Wyatts came out to confront Sheamus’ crew. Did you feel the buzz when fans thought Bray Wyatt was going to turn into a long awaited, character baby face? He’s money in that role MO but has minimal, villain steam as he hasn’t won any big bouts in recent memory.

Talents that are NOT over do not get over by losing consistently. It’s simple human nature, folks.”

Alberto Del Rio Explains Why He Did Not Drop The AAA Title

3

WWE United States Champion recently gave his first interview to the Mexican media since returning to WWE, speaking to Felix Zapata from Reforma about why he vacated the AAA Mega Championship instead of dropping the title in the ring.

According to Kris Zellner of The Lucha Report, Del Rio said WWE originally allowed him to work AAA’s Guerra de Titanes show on 12/4, where he would have dropped the title. That show was cancelled due to what Del Rio called disorganization and then WWE pulled their offer for him to work one last show for them. Del Rio called it shameful that he wasn’t allowed to leave AAA gracefully.

This contradicts AAA’s side of the story, but Del Rio pointed to the fact that WWE allowed him to work for WWC in Puerto Rico over the weekend.

Chris Jericho Sign Confiscated Last Night, Kevin Sullivan On The Ross Report

12

– For whatever reason, a fan in attendance at the WWE Tribute To The Troops and SmackDown tapings in Jacksonville, Florida on Tuesday night had his Chris Jericho sign confiscated by security. Jericho ended up responding to a tweet about the fan having his sign taken away. He wrote the following basic response:

– This week’s edition of WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross’ “Ross Report” podcast features part two of his excellent interview with former WCW booker Kevin Sullivan. The official description for the episode, which you download right now at PodcastOne.com, reads as follows:

“Kevin Sullivan returns to talk about his booking days at WCW, Brock Lesnar, how he’d change today’s wrestling product, whether there’d be a Stone Cold Steve Austin if there hadn’t been a Brian Pillman, and the murder of his ex-wife Nancy Benoit & her son, and the suicide of her then husband, Chris Benoit.”

Photo: Fans Leaving Monday’s RAW Before Roman Reigns/Sheamus Main Event Segment

44

As previously noted, word hit the internet after Monday’s RAW that a noticeable amount of fans in attendance had left the arena prior to the final segment of the show. According to live reports from the show, members of the audience began filing out prior to the main event segment between Roman Reigns and Sheamus.

To update on this, Reddit user rayp913 shared a photo he took at the The North Charleston Coliseum during RAW, prior to the main event. He wrote:

“I went to Raw last night. This was the crowd behind the hard camera right before the main event […] I was considering leaving too.”

Here’s his photo from the 12/7 RAW in North Charleston, South Carolina:

Additionally, an SEScoops Facebook fan who was in attendance concurred with this story, writing on Tuesday: “A lot of people did leave before the main event.”
