WWE taped tonight’s episode of NXT on October 8th in Winter Park, FL at Full Sail University. Here’s what you’ll see on tonight’s NXT broadcast:

– NXT Women’s Champion Bayley opens the episode with a promo about her match with Sasha Banks at NXT Takeover: Respect. Alexis Bliss hits the ring and they exchange words. Bliss grabbed the title, threw it in Bayley’s face, then walked away.

– The Vaudevillians defeated Sawyer Fulton and Angelo Dawkins in a non-title match.

– Nia Jax defeated Evie in a singles match.

– Apollo Crews won the number contender’s battle royal to secure a future NXT Title Match. The final four were Samoa Joe, Crews, Tyler Breeze, and Baron Corbin.

– Variety reports that WWE Studios will soon begin work on the script for their film about the life of WWE Hall of Famer “Gorgeous” George Wagner. Josh Gad, a Tony Award nominated actor and comedian best known for voicing Olaf in Frozen, has signed on to co-write the screenplay

President of WWE Studios Michael Luisi commented, “Gorgeous George was a true pioneer in television. Josh is a true talent and we are thrilled to see him and Ryan tackle such a groundbreaking story.”

Kalisto Credits Dusty Rhodes For Helping Create His Character In WWE

Kalisto recently spoke with WWE.com about Lucha Libre, and revealed that Dusty Rhodes helped him decide on his WWE character. Here are some highlights:

On lucha libre:

“I was amused by the luchadors and the art they wore on their faces. Lucha libre is translated as ‘free fighting,’ but it’s really a different way of presenting wrestling. It’s an aerial art, but it’s also about having a unique presence.”

On Dusty Rhodes helping him find his character:

“I did that in the indies, but I didn’t know what it meant. I just did it to have fun. I told Dusty my whole story, about how I grew up as a fighter, and we talked about how lucha means to fight for your dreams. He said, ‘You’re full of life, and lucha excites you. You are lucha.’”

Backstage Update On John Cena Filming New TV Show While Away From WWE

Wrestling author and reporter Scott Keith recently reported that WWE United States Champion John Cena is most likely taking time off from the ring to host a new television show. Following his announcement that he would be taking a leave of absence, there was much speculation as to why. Keith reported that the new television show that Cena would be hosting would be a new fitness-themed reality show that will eventually air on Fox.

Filming of the new show is scheduled to run from Monday, October 26, 2015 all the way through the first or second week of January 2016. The show is set to air in early spring. Cena is advertised, however, to make his return to action at WWE’s post-Christmas live event tour.

Cena will indeed be filming something during his time off, and according to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live, the length and specifics of the schedule have yet to be determined. WWE officials and Cena continue to be very hush-hush on why he’s taking time away from the ring, which is unusual as officials typically announce if a talent is taking time off for TV and/or movie roles and projects.

While it is very possible that during his hiatus he may be filming a new project, that may not be the main reason for his taking time away from WWE specifically. This past summer, Cena asked WWE for a break for what he claimed was regarding “personal issues.”

– Eva Marie returned to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida on Tuesday after missing the NXT television tapings last week due to Total Divas filming commitments in Paris. As noted recently, WWE has been in the process of coming up with creative non-wrestling ideas for Eva Marie. Marie tweeted the following about returning to training.

– WWE Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens took to social media to express his excitement about the news that he now has an official Kevin Owens Throw Blanket available via WWE Shop. As you can tell, Owens was pretty excited.

WWE taped the following matches for this week’s edition of WWE Main Event prior to the SmackDown television taping on Tuesday night in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Dark Match:

– Tyler Breeze def. Damien Sandow in singles action for the live crowd to kick off the evening. Sandow is back to being the original Damien Sandow still. In the end, Breeze hit the Beauty Shot for the 1-2-3.

WWE Main Event:

– Stardust def. Fandango in the first match taped for WWE Main Event. The fans were into Cody chants during this one. The finish in this one was simple, as Stardust hit his finisher and picked up the win.

– Ryback def. Adam Rose in the next match taped for Main Event. The Cincy fans were super into The Big Guy on Tuesday night. Ryback got the win in about five minutes with a Meathook Clothesline and a Shellshock.

– Nikki & Brie Bella def. Naomi & Tamina in tag-team action, as the “Divas Revolution” wrapped up the Main Event taping when Brie hit a Facebuster for the pin at about the six minute mark.

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Tuesday evening as part of a big announcement — SportsCenter will be doing a weekly segment looking at the “Top 5 Moments In WWE” hosted by Jonathan Coachman.

Rollins appeared via satellite and hyped his feud with Kane. They showed a clip Rollins mocking the Cleveland Browns and Johnny Manziel when RAW was in Cleveland.

WWE Diva Becky Lynch recently spoke with Irish America about how she got into wrestling, the current crop of Divas, and more. Here are some highlights:

Becky Lynch on her wrestling beginnings:

“Me and my brother would watch it [on TV] all the time and I loved it. But if you wanted to be a wrestler, you’d have to go off to England or America to train.

“It [Devitt’s school] was about an hour and a half away from me. And it didn’t even have a ring at the time. We wrestled for three months on just six blue mats on the floor in this tiny little hall at Saint Andrew’s national school. We’d go down there every Sunday and that’s how we learned, on the mats. We’d go across to England and do these summer camps where you’d train eight or nine hours a day in a gym. You’d sleep on the mats in the ring or under the ring.”

Lynch on what sets her apart:

“I think when you’ve got a passion for something, it comes out of you and people can feel it. Then your mind is so geared towards that, and how you can improve on it, and you’re so excited about performing that it comes together….

Everybody has that thing about them that makes them special, and sometimes we try to dull it down or we don’t always want to expose it, and maybe we’ve been taught that way or whatever. It’s just a matter of letting it out and letting it go and letting people in on it.”

What does she hope the ‘Divas Revolution’ accomplishes?

“We want it where it’s not just, ‘Oh it’s a girl’s match, let me go put the kettle on and have a cup of tea,’ or whatever. It’s like, ‘Oh, no, the girls are on. I need to see this. I can’t miss it!’ We want that for women’s wrestling. For the whole state of the division. For women in general, you know what I mean? It should never be an afterthought. It should always be that we are equally as credible as the guys, if not more so.

When I walk down to the Performance Center, there’s a hallway, and there’s a display of all the pay-per-view posters. It’s all the headliners, all the moneymakers, and they’re all men. All of them. Every single one of them. I walk down and every single time I just kind of shake my head a little bit. Because I know in five years, definitely in ten years, but no, five years, even three years, I know I’m going to be walking down and I’m going to see female wrestlers like Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks and Bayley, and maybe myself, there on those posters. That’s what it’s going to be, because that is the future.”

WWE taped this week’s SmackDown on Tuesday night from Cincinnati, Ohio. Here are the results, courtesy of Thomas M.:

– Roman Reigns kicks off SmackDown with an in-ring promo but is interrupted by Bo Dallas. Reigns defeated Dallas in a quick match with a spear. Afterwards, Reigns cut a promo about his match with Bray Wyatt at Hell In a Cell. Bray interrupted on the big screen.

– Sheamus and King Barrett defeated Cesaro and Neville. Stardust and The Ascension were ringside for the match and Stardust had a “Stardust Section” sign to mock Cesaro.

– Summer Rae cut a promo on Rusev and Dolph Ziggler announcing she will be the referee for their match later in the show.

– Dean Ambrose was interviewed by Byron Saxton and got a great reaction from his hometown crowd.

– Kevin Owens defeated Zack Ryder in a non-title squash match. Ryback watched from ringside and stopped Owens from destroying Ryder afterwards.

– Paige and Natalya argued backstage.

– Dolph Ziggler defeated Rusev when guest referee Summer Rae did a fast count. Summer Rae attempted to celebrate with Ziggler afterwards but got shot down.

– Backstage promo with Dean Ambrose and The Dudley Boyz.

– Luke Harper and Braun Strowman defeated The Prime Time Players. Harper took out Titus O’Neil wile Braun choked out Darren Young for the win.

– Divas Champion Charlotte defeated Alicia Fox in a non-title match with the Figure Eight. Team Bella beat Becky and Charlotte down after the match. Paige made the save.

– Natalya was shown laid out backstage.

– The Dudley Boyz and Dean Ambrose defeated The New Day by DQ when Xavier Woods hit Bubba Ray Dudley with the trombone. Ambrose got a huge reaction from his hometown. Lots of heat during this match. New Day got some cheap shots in after the match and stood tall to end the show.

WWE Working On U.S. Title DVD Set, Update On New Horror Film, Dudleyz/Jericho

– WWE may be releasing a two-disc DVD and three-disc Blu-ray set on the United States Title in 2016. WrestlingDVDNetwork.com reports that WWE is currently in the early stages of working on a title and match list for the set. We’ll keep you posted.

– Chris Jericho revealed on Twitter that The Dudley Boyz will be appearing on Wednesday’s episode of Talk is Jericho:

– To update on WWE Studios’ upcoming horror movie The Temple, Gene Simmons of Kiss fame will be an executive producer on the project. Filming will begin in February. Here’s the synopsis for the film:

“Temple” is written by Matt Savelloni (“Exile To Babylon”) and will follow a team of highly trained operatives who find themselves trapped inside an isolated military compound after its artificial intelligence is suddenly shut down. While investigating the source of the malfunction, the crew begins to experience strange and horrific phenomena as they attempt to uncover who or what killed the team previously stationed at the compound.

WWE Hall of Fame announcer Jim Ross took to his blog at jrsbarbq.com to express his frustration over how WWE is handling Seth Rollins’ character on TV. He’s also scratching his head over why Dolph Ziggler isn’t used in a better position on WWE television. Here are some highlights:

On WWE’s booking of Seth Rollins:

“The booking of WWE Champion Seth Rollins to rarely win on TV and to be an enhanced chickensh!t heel is a head scratcher. I thoroughly understand the concept of the vulnerable antagonist but for one’s champion to rarely win on TV is questionable. The booking of Rollins needs addressing IMO.”

On John Cena vs. Dolph Ziggler:

“Thought Cena and Ziggler stole the show but unfortunately the show stealer came early. Great opportunity for WWE to advance Ziggler to the US Title with Cena preparing to leave WWE for a short sabbatical. No idea why Ziggler isn’t used more prominently. He’s a helluva talent.”

On the booking of WWE diva Charlotte:

“Seemed as if WWE anointed Charlotte as their top female when she won the title but since then she’s not been featured. What am I missing here? I do like the way that the females have more people talking positively about them than in quite some time.”

WWE RAW Rating & Viewership Down Again

Monday’s 10/12 edition of WWE RAW drew a 2.33 rating with 3.285 million viewers, both down from last week.

The hourly breakdown paints another bleak picture for WWE’s flagship show. Once again, viewership declined each consecutive hour and the final hour featuring Seth Rollins vs. Kane in a Lumberjack match came dangerously close to dipping below 3 million viewers.

  • Hour 1: 3.518 million viewers
  • Hour 2: 3.254 million viewers
  • Hour 3: 3.082 million viewers

RAW ranked #4 for the night in cable viewership behind the NFL on ESPN, MLB playoffs on TBS and ESPN SportsCenter.

– India looks to be a very big market for the TNA brand in the next few upcoming years. TNA employees remain very optimistic that the company will land a new cable TV deal in the United States in 2016. They also hold out hope that next year will be a new launching point for a better overall position in the TNA company.

– Shane Helms continues to be praised for his recent work as an agent in TNA. Helms was responsible for the Bound For Glory main event with Matt Hardy vs. Drew Galloway vs. Ethan Carter III for the TNA World Heavyweight title. Additionally, Tommy Dreamer has been getting more agent work in TNA, as he most recently served as the agent for the “Bound For Gold” match at this year’s Bound For Glory pay-per-view.

Former WWE Divas Champion and wife of WWE mega-star turned UFC hopeful CM Punk, AJ Lee, has officially launched “AJ’s Animal Avenger” collection, which in conjunction with the “Beautiful Disaster” clothing company, features four t-shirts and one shirt for dogs.

Proceeds of “AJ’s Animal Avenger” collection will go to the “PAWS” charity based out of Chicago. You can check out AJ’s new collection at BDRocks.

The aforementioned Beautiful Disaster Clothing company made the following announcement:

Steve Austin Claims He Was Never Booked For Raw Next Week

Although he will be in the house to interview Brock Lesnar after the show, Stone Cold Steve Austin claims that he is not appearing on-camera at next week’s Raw. Next week’s Raw broadcast (Oct. 19) is the go-home show before Hell In A Cell and takes place in Dallas, TX.

Update: Sami Zayn To Appear At EVOLVE iPPVs, But Won’t Be Wrestling

As noted on Monday evening, former NXT Champion Sami Zaym has been officially announced for this weekend’s EVOLVE internet pay-per-views in New York.

It was made clear today that while Zayn won’t be wrestling at the shows, however he will appear before the live crowds during the events, and will air during the beginning of the internet pay-per-view broadcast.

Saturday commences with an early morning 5K beach run, followed by an afternoon of special guest speakers, including Bullard, and several SEAL capabilities demonstrations on Museum property. Entry into the facility is included. This family friendly venue will showcase the SEAL parachute team, the Leapfrogs; the K-9 tactical team; and additional enemy apprehension displays. More than 10,000 spectators are anticipated to attend.
