Elimination Chamber Booking News, Plans For First Tough Enough Episode

11

– With the Elimination Chamber taking place just a few weeks after WWE’s most recent PPV offering, the creative team is said to be enjoying the short turnaround time.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the creative team likes that they have only a few of weeks to set up angles and blow them off. The feeling is that spending four weeks of television to set up and pay off a story gives too much time for the matches – which have been very repetitive in recent months and lead to overexposure.

– There is talk of having the very first episode of the new season of WWE Tough Enough to be built around 30 contestants battling to make it into the house. If this does happen, the eliminations and the picks of those who qualify will be shot at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

Details On TNA’s Talent Conference Call: Destination America, ROH

47

TNA held their talent conference call on Wednesday afternoon to address a wide variety of topics, ranging from the Destination America ‘cancellation’ rumors to the blockbuster news of Ring of Honor TV being the new lead-in show to TNA starting next week. Here are some highlights:

– The call lasted approximately 90 minutes, with Dixie Carter addressing the various issues before handing it over to the talent for a 30-minute Q&A session.

– Dixie Carter addressed the ‘cancelation’ rumors, sort of. She acknowledged that Destination America does have an out clause in their contract, which she reassured them is normal for TV deals. While she wouldn’t directly address Dave Meltzer’s report about Destination America planning to drop Impact in September, she said they are on good terms with the network and are under the assumption that they’ll be on Destination America in 2016.

– Regarding Ring of Honor, Dixie Carter spun it as a positive, noting that ROH as a lead-in will likely bring new viewers to TNA.

– During the Q&A session, MVP was one of the more vocal wrestlers holding Dixie Carter to task, asking about late pay. Dixie reportedly downplayed checks not being sent out and there was understandably some hostility and frustration during this portion of the call.

Overall, the tone of the call was mostly positive, with Dixie Carter putting a positive spin on the ROH news and reassuring talent that they are moving forward under the assumption TNA will remain on Destination America through 2016.

Will Samoa Joe Still Be Allowed To Work ROH TV?, More On ROH’s Airings

8

– Ring Of Honor TV will not only air as the lead-in to TNA Impact Wrestling each Wednesday night on Destination America, but a replay will also air immediately following Impact.

The episodes will premiere on Saturdays on Sinclair affiliates prior to the Wednesday broadcast/replay on Destination America.

– With ROH now airing on cable television, there’s already speculation that WWE will nix his appearances in the promotion. The same rule would likely apply to Rhyno and other talents if they handle the Joe situation that way. Joe is currently booked to appear on the 6/20 edition of ROH TV, teaming with AJ Styles to take on Kazarian and Daniels, however that could change due to ROH’s new deal with Destination America.

– It has been rumored for a while that Seth Rollins’ finishing move — the “Curb Stomp” — has been banned by WWE. During a recent fan Q&A, Rollins was asked if WrestleMania 31 was the last time we will ever see the move, and the WWE World Heavyweight Champion confirmed it. Check out the clip below.

Update On ROH/Destination America Deal: How Did It Come About?, TNA’s Role

21

As reported earlier today, Ring Of Honor will be airing on Destination America beginning next Wednesday night at 8pm EST., right before Impact Wrestling. The ROH shows that air on Destination America will be repeats of the weekend shows that air on Sinclair Broadcasting.

One of the reasons Destination America made the decision to bring ROH on board was because of their deal with TNA. The issue with TNA is not a viewership problem, but rather the fact that the cable company is having difficulty selling ads on the show.

Because Destination America pays the amount that they pay for TNA, and because they are not making the money back, they are looking for another company — which ended up being ROH — so that they can keep wrestling on the network, as they do want to have the sport on their channel.

ROH will reportedly make money off of the deal with Destination America, and because they will be paying significantly less for ROH than TNA, they will likely make money as well.

At last word, Impact Wrestling is still renewed after September, but there’s always a chance that things could change, especially if ROH’s show helps Impact.

ROH had previously been in talks with Destination America to air specials on their network, however that deal never came to fruition. ROH, however, is said to be thrilled with this deal because it allows them to expand into markets that Sinclair isn’t in.

There is no working relationship planned between TNA and ROH, so anyone speculating about a possible invasion angle can put that idea to rest. The reason no one in TNA knew about ROH’s deal with the company is because they had nothing to do with it.

TNA Caught Off Guard By ROH/Destination America Deal?, Recent TNA Viewership

13

– Apparently the announcement that Ring Of Honor is coming to Destination America next month caught several people within TNA off-guard. As noted earlier, MVP said on Twitter that talents were not informed of the deal ahead of time. TNA reportedly has a conference call with talent scheduled for later today.

– Friday’s TNA Slammiversary 2014 repeat on Destination America drew 232,000 viewers. The number was down from the previous week’s show, which drew 395,000 viewers for the original airing and 125,000 viewers for the replay.

TNA To Address Talents Today, MVP Makes Interesting Comment

25

TNA has reportedly contacted their talents to request that they take part in a conference call scheduled for 3pm EST. today.

While this is just speculation, the belief is that the call will be where TNA President Dixie Carter finally addresses the Destination America rumors, including today’s news that Ring Of Honor is coming to the network.

While the word going around is that all of TNA talents were contacted, MVP initially denied the claim, but followed up minutes later with an interesting comment. Below are MVP’s tweets on the subject.

Update On ROH Coming To Destination America: Repeats Only?, Length Of The Deal

11

Regarding Ring Of Honor coming to Destination America in June, the episodes that will be airing are the ones owned and distributed by Sinclair Broadcasting. The shows will air first on Sinclair affiliates during the weekends and then air on Wednesday nights on Destination America.

Executives from Destination America and ROH have reportedly been building a relationship over the past couple of months and the two sides reaching a deal is said to be independent from what is going on with Destination America and TNA.

Destination America apparently wants pro wrestling on their network, and want to be known as the “destination” for the business.

While this has yet to be confirmed, ROH is scheduled to air weekly on Destination America at least through the end of 2015, possibly longer.

Destination America is now the one-two-punch to professional wrestling, adding RING OF HONOR (ROH) to its line-up after launching IMPACT WRESTLING in early 2015. With this great partnership with Destination America, we can continue to expand our footprint and reach while producing entertaining, original content and continuing to provide wrestling fans some of the best wrestling content available.”

RING OF HONOR will premiere on Wednesday, June 3 leading into IMPACT WRESTLING, making Destination America the home for wrestling every Wednesday evening. The first match will feature the Briscoe Brothers, Mark and Jay, as they face off with the House of Truth in the main event. Also catch athletes of New Japan Pro Wrestling battle it out with the RING OF HONOR stars and follow former NFL lineman Moose compete against BJ Whitmer.

Since launching in 2012, Destination America has become one of cable’s top fastest-growing networks, and continues to earn telecast ratings records among key series. In 2015 to date, Destination America has acquired over 50 million unique viewers. With top series that explore unique American cultures and ways of life – including Paranormal Survivor, Hillbilly Blood, Buying the Bayou, and BBQ Pitmasters – Destination America’s programming spans the nation from Alaska, Hawaii and Colorado to Louisiana, West Virginia and communities in between.

Breaking News: ROH Coming To Destination America Next Month

47

Ring of Honor will premiere on Destination America on Wednesday, June 3rd.

Yes, you read that correctly. Destination America tweeted the news on Wednesday, with ROH’s official Twitter account re-tweeting the announcement.

ROH will air at 8pm EST and will be immediately followed by TNA Impact Wrestling.

This is an unprecedented move, with two rival national promotions airing back-to-back on the same network. The network has reportedly been very frustrated with advertisers being unwilling to buy commercial time during TNA programming.

Destination America has yet to release an official statement regarding the future of TNA on the network.

Ric Flair On Wanting To Return To WWE As A Manager, HHH’s Role In WWE & NXT

3

WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair recently spoke with Thomas Feaheny about a number of topics. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On returning to WWE as a wrestler: “Physically, I am more than able to return. I don’t think that’s going to happen, Vincent Kennedy McMahon does not have me on the roster.”

On returning to WWE as a manager: “I would love that. I have been waiting on that for two years, but I don’t anticipate that happening now. I understand that they have so many young guys, people they want to get established, I have no problem with it, but I don’t think it will happen.”

On his daughter wrestling in NXT: “I think she is going to be one of the biggest stars in the female division… I don’t miss one of her matches. If I’m not there in person I am watching her on the network.”

On Triple H’s role in WWE and NXT: “I personally wish he was in the ring more because he is such a great performer. It’s hard to maintain that edge when you are working part-time. I think he is doing a phenomenal job. On a personal note, NXT is his baby and he has a lot to say about Raw and Smackdown, and he is doing a great job. When you wrestle part-time, the chances of injury can happen much easier.”

NXT’s Four Horsewomen Talk About How They’re Changing Women’s Wrestling

13

NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Bayley and Becky Lynch spoke to WWE.com this week about their efforts to change the face of women’s wrestling.

Dubbed the “Four Horsewomen of NXT,” each of them talked about what they’re doing to ensure WWE has no choice but to #GiveDivasAChance.

Charlotte said it’s hard to be the “hardest worker in the room” in the NXT Women’s division, because everybody is the hardest worker in the room. She raved about Triple H’s decision to hire (the recently promoted) Sara Del Rey and said she gets goosebumps thinking about how lucky she is to have so many talented women to work with.

Bayley said Triple H has been incredibly supportive of them, showing a lot of interest in each individual. Triple H has solidified their mission to revolutionize women’s wrestling.

Becky Lynch said she stopped watching wrestling many years ago because it didn’t seem like women had a chance to be featured in a meaningful way. She said she walked around the WWE Performance Center and did not see any women’s wrestlers featured on the WWE PPV poster banners there. She knows that in five years, when she walks around the performance center, she’s going to see Bayley, Sasha and Charlotte on those banners. “Hopefully I’ll see myself, too, but I know I’m going to see them, and it’s not just because they’re good for girls. They’re just good. Just really good, and we’re just changing.”

Sasha Banks said that when she was working the indies, people wouldn’t care about women’s matches. Now, people come up to her and tell her she had the best match on the show. Male wrestlers come up to her and admit they are going to have a hard time following her match, which is an amazing feeling.

James Storm Talks TNA/Destination America Rumors, Billy Corgan & More

4

TNA star James Storm recently appeared as a guest on the v2 Wrestling Podcast to talk about a number of subjects. Below are some highlights from the interview..

On if he prefers being a heel or a babyface: “I always prefer being a heel, just because I was always taught that it’s easier to piss people off than it is to make people happy. These days it’s hard for good babyfaces to get over because everybody wants to cheer for the cheaters or the guys that they think are cool or something. For example, John Cena. It’s hard for him to get over as a babyface, but I think if he turned heel, people will really boo the hell out of him. Or he would actually get those people who are booing him now to start cheering for him. Wrestling fans are weird, but at the end of the day they want to cheer for whoever they want to cheer for and that’s how it goes.”

On who can be the top babyface for TNA: “I could. Given the correct program and everything, I believe I can be that pure babyface that TNA needs. Just for the simple fact that people can relate to me. I’m not the giant 6-foot-4 jacked up guy. People from town say, I want to root for this guy because he kind of reminds me of someone I’d like to hang out with or could hang out with, you know? It’s just one of those things where I don’t feel like I got the proper push at the time when I was the World Heavyweight Champion, but that’s all behind me now and I’m just moving forward. Given the right opportunity, I could be that pure babyface that TNA needs.”

On who he wants to work with in TNA: “I’d really like to work with Bobby Lashley. I think me and him could have some good matches, with him being a babyface and me being a heel, or vice versa. I always like working with the bigger guys. It’s harder working with bigger guys when you’re the heel because it’s hard to get sympathy on them, but Bobby Lashley is one of those babyfaces that I think, even though he’s a big guy, he can still get sympathy on himself and make people care about him. I’d also like to have a good run with Kurt (Angle). I think with me being heel and him being the face of the company right now, I think that could be a really good angle.”

On a Beer Money reunion with Bobby Roode: “I think creative has got him doing something with Austin Aries right now. I wish him all the luck and everything, but it’s one of those ideas that I also pitched to TNA. Hey, how about we get Bobby Roode to join the Revolution and have Beer Money in the Revolution? So you never know, it can be something that kind of comes around. To me, I think that could be quite interesting to have Bobby part of the Revolution.”

On original plans for the Revolution: “The whole startup with the Revolution was a different vision than what I had in mind. TNA came and asked me if I would help these guys out a little bit, and I didn’t mind at all. My vision of it at the beginning was I wanted it to be me, Gunner, Sam Shaw, Lance Hoyt and Crimson. You look at that group and those are some bad boys. But they had a different vision of it and they asked me what I thought of it. I make the best out of everything that I’m given and if I’m able to help some guys out along the way, that’s what I’ll do. So far I’ve felt like I’ve elevated some of these guys up.”

On the growth of the Revolution: “First they asked me for my thoughts on it and I told them. Then they asked me to start out with Sanada and work from there. I was still getting my feet under me with the heel turn and just figuring what direction I wanted to go and everything. That was a learning process for me with Sanada, and we brought in The Great Muta and did a deal with him. Then it just started growing and we brought in Manik, Abyss and now Khoya, who I’ve been working with closely to try to get more ring time and more ring experience for him. I just told TNA that he needs more ring time. I can teach a monkey how to do wrestling moves, but to actually learn how to work in front of a crowd is something that he has to learn in the ring, in front of a crowd. It’s hard for someone to be taught that.”

On the future of the Revolution: “It’s one of those things where I’m not really sure. I think they’ve got more plans for it and they kind of want to take it in a different direction, maybe the direction that I thought of at the very beginning. They talked to me about some new people coming in and what I thought. I’m always about trying to make the product better, because once the product’s better, everybody makes more money. This whole Revolution thing, I like doing it, but at the same time I like being on my own as well.”

On his real-life friendship with Gunner: “I’ve been friends with Gunner and Crimson for a long time. They came to me when me and Gunner had our feud and they asked me if I would help elevate him because I think they wanted to do something with him and the World Title, and of course I was like, yeah. I love Gunner to death and if I can help him out, that’s fine. So we did all this and we beat the hell out of each other, but then he was left off TV for a while and that kind of bothered me a little bit. I’ve heard now that they’ve got plans to bring him back and do something really cool with him, so all the best to Gunner.”

On Billy Corgan joining TNA: “He was at the last TV tapings that we had. They already had the TVs written and everything right before he came in, so I don’t think he was able to change stuff around. I got to talk to him and I shot some ideas and he loved them. He gave me some of his ideas and I was just trying to make sense out of some of the things he was saying. I really didn’t know too much about him except he was the lead singer of the Smashing Pumpkins, but talking to him and getting to know him, the guy knows a lot about wrestling. He looks at it like I do, from a fan’s standpoint. How will this translate over to the fans? Will they like this or will they not? Will they be like, this doesn’t make any sense at all? Because wrestling fans are not stupid — they don’t want to have their intelligence insulted by some crazy, ridiculous storyline.”

On his feud with Magnus and a potential match at Slammiversary: “Yeah, I believe that’s where they’re headed. I’ve worked with Magnus ever since he came into the company. When he first came in they put him with Doug (Williams) and then he and Doug always worked with me and Bobby a lot on all the live events and TVs just to get him used to the American style, because I don’t think Magnus had really been working that long when he came to TNA, maybe three years or something. It’s night and day with him now. He goes in there and he puts everything into his matches. He’s a student of the game. It’s really a testament to him to show that he’s not here to just collect a paycheck. He’s learning and he wants to be the best.”

On rumors of TNA being canceled by Destination America: “I’ve been told by the higher-ups that there’s nothing to worry about. TNA is owned by a billion dollar company, Panda Energy, so the money is going to be there. They talk about the network saying this and that. Every network wants great ratings, but the problem is that it takes time for the casual wrestling fans and the viewers to find Destination America. A lot of people don’t have that channel, or it’s a premium channel and they have to pay for it. My mom actually couldn’t find it until like a month ago. So it’s just taking people a little longer to find the Destination America channel. Nobody really knows except for the network and Dixie Carter, that’s how I look at it. Dixie cares about the wrestlers like they’re her own kids. If something’s going to go down, she’s going to have a meeting and talk about it with all of the guys, so that’s how I look at it.”

Golberg Talks About The Undertaker, His Heel Turn In WCW

0

Bill Godberg recently spoke to The Inquisitr to promote the upcoming Legends of Wrestling event on June 7th from Citi Field in New York, New York. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

His Heel Turn In WCW:

“I’m glad because I can be a role model for kids but oh man, did I want to be a heel. I would have been the best Bruiser Brody’ish, bald, freaking monster anybody would have been. People think Brock [Lesnar] is good as a heel, oh man. They turned me one time in WCW in Baltimore, the night before I wrestled Hacksaw Jim Duggan and he just got over surgery and he had cancer. I had to go out and blast him and had a Make-A-Wish girl in the back, with cancer. So I come back after the match and she’s in tears, wrestling is wrestling, I get it, the good, bad and evil and trying to storyline people in and out of what they think is going to happen. But I wasn’t going to do that. I failed as a wrestler in that I didn’t turn heel but I think I won as a human being. Because if there is one girl or one kid that thinks less of me and doesn’t idolize me because of the fictitious stuff I’ve done in the ring in a negative fashion, I don’t want to risk that. I didn’t reach the level I could have reached but it doesn’t matter to me. That one little girl destroyed me and I told them the next day that we’re going back., immediately.”

The Undertaker:

“Mark’s awesome, dude. Talk about revolutionizing the business, he was unbelievable and to see that he still does it in some capacity is unbelievable. And he’s a great guy and I very much appreciate him both in and out of the ring.”

Jim Ross Blog: Vince McMahon’s RAW Promo, Samoa Joe’s WWE Deal, More

4

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross recently updated his official website blog with his latest thoughts and comments. Below are some of the highlights.

On Vince McMahon’s RAW promo: “Thought that it was cool that Vince McMahon addressed the live audience in the soon to be closing Nassau Coliseum Monday night. The arena is a big part of the history of WWE and a place that I always enjoyed working. Not sure that I wouldn’t hae had the Fink there to do something, too.”

On Samoa Joe’s WWE deal: “The wrestling media and many in the fan base fascination over Samoa Joe’s ‘contract’ is actually becoming humorous. Is it really that big a story? If the talent is happy and the company’s that are hiring him are happy then what’s the issue other than “I got’s to know?’ I’m ecstatic for @SamoaJoe and feel great things are ahead for him in WWE and if not then someone will have really fumbled in the red zone.”

On TNA and Destination America: “TNA not addressing the rampant TV rumors of their relationship with Destination America is irresponsible. I’ve talked to many within the company who have no idea what their future holds and that’s not good business. Silence speaks volumes more often than not in the wrestling business when it comes to communicating with talent and of that I speak from extensive experience.”
