Jay Lethal On Working Against Alberto El Patron, Thoughts On Internet Wrestling Community

2

ROH TV Champion Jay Lethal recently appeared as a guest on the Chad Dukes Wrestling Show to promote his upcoming match against Alberto El Patron. Below are highlights from the interview.

On wrestling Alberto El Patron: “The coolest part of it is my dad, who watches anything and everything wrestling, is a big fan of Alberto’s, so it was actually cool getting to wrestle somebody that my dad was a fan of AND beating him so that way I could rub it in my dad’s face.

“But also, much like when I wrestled Ric Flair, Kurt Angle, I love those high-profile matches where you know there’s gonna be a lot of eyes on you because there’s a lot of press and publicity and such surrounding the match. I always love rising to those occasions because it’s kind of a lot of pressure, you know? You know the competition is going to be watching, especially since Alberto came from somewhere else, some of the people over there are going to be watching, it’s really exciting. It can be nerve wrecking, but I love those moments in wrestling.”

On the internet wrestling community: “That’s where we get to almost judge whether not what we’re doing is working. I think a lot of the internet wrestling community fans are bit smarter than the average wrestling fan, which is why they come together in this little internet community. I definitely think that it’s a positive that they are there, although they shouldn’t be taken too seriously sometimes.

“The wrestling world is becoming smarter, and what I mean by that is, I remember a time where there were so many fans who only knew what the WWF was and that was it. Now that they are finding out about independent shows and all the other things like that they’re becoming smarter, not even because they want to be but because it’s happening naturally. I do believe if we can please them, and its very easy to know if they’re being pleased, [laughs] they do not keep it to themselves.

“Every wrestler is egotistical, we all are. We all want to be praised. So no matter what it is we do, no matter who the wrestler is, don’t let them fool you, we all search for comments about what we are doing. Some of us take those comments too personally, they take it to the heart and they let it get us down if we thought we did something good but find out there was a massive amount of people or maybe a small amount of people who don’t think that it was good. That really gets some people down, I’ve seen it happen and it’s a shame. But overall I think it’s a good tool.”

Roman Reigns: “When I’m Talkin’, Shut The Hell Up And Let Me Talk”

140

WrestleMania 31 main event challenger Roman Reigns spoke to Rolling Stone today to discuss last night’s RAW, his character’s evolution, being underestimated and much more. It’s a lengthy interview and we highly recommend you check it out.

Since winning the Royal Rumble, Reigns has had to battle throw intense negative backlash and is still getting mixed reactions with less than two weeks until WWE’s biggest show of the year. During his promo last night on RAW, Reigns improvised when the crowd began chanting for the man he defeated at Fastlane to solidify his title shot, Daniel Bryan. Reigns doubled down on his position from after the Rumble, stating that if fans want to cheer for Daniel Bryan, he’s “all for that.” But Reigns sounds like he’s getting fed up with fans not buying in to his promos:

“That’s just an instinct thing. That’s not something you learn in a warehouse or people can tell you. If you’re a Daniel Bryan fan, I’m all for that. The more people Daniel Bryan will bring into arenas, the better. The more people I bring in, the better. But when I’mherzog talkin’, shut the hell up and let me talk.”

When asked if winning the WWE World Heavyweight championship is his ultimate goal at WrestleMania, Reigns told Rolling Stone’s Kenny Herzog:

I just want to go out there and do my thing, and a lot of that is winning the WWE Championship. I can’t stress enough how that title is everything for us. But for me, I would like to wake up and know, “Yeah, that was a five-star, you-can’t-touch-that match.” I’d like to be able to walk to the back thinking, “Can’t one of y’all do that.”

He added that he’s enjoying ‘learning on the fly’ and is “absolutely” saving his best for Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania.

Potential Spoilers For WrestleMania Main Event, IC & US Titles

Potential Spoilers For WrestleMania Main Event & Future Storylines

113

With less than two weeks to go until WrestleMania 31, booking plans are in the process of being finalized and we’ve got some information regarding three of the top matches on the show. WWE insider ‘MetsFan4Ever’ has released some major details regarding what’s planned for the main event as well as the IC & US titles.

According to the Reddit user, the word going around Tuesday night’s SmackDown tapings is that Brock Lesnar is very close to signing a new contract with WWE. The deal would be similar to his current deal, with Lesnar presented presented as a special attraction making limited appearances.

The big news is that Triple H is reportedly trying to sell Vince McMahon on the idea of Brock Lesnar retaining the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. This scenario would also have implications on two other WrestleMania matches.

If Brock retains, the plan is for John Cena to defeat Rusev for the Unites States Championship and Daniel Bryan to emerge victorious in the Intercontinental Championship Ladder match. With Brock Lesnar only making occasional appearances on WWE television, the idea is for John Cena and Daniel Bryan to headline various RAW, PPV and live events defending their titles, which would bring a great deal of prestige to both.

While things can change over the next week and a half, this is one the main ideas being considered.

Jim Ross Blog: Samoa Joe To WWE?, Sting’s RAW Performance, Zbyszko & Nash In WWE HOF

1

Jim Ross updated the blog on his official website on Tuesday, writing about the Samoa Joe to WWE rumors, Sting’s performance on Monday’s RAW and some of the inductees in this year’s WWE Hall Of Fame class.

Below are some highlights from JR’s latest blog:

On Samoa Joe: “I had a great conversation Monday night with @SamoaJoe for a future podcast. Joe is one of the most intelligent and perceptive athletes that I’ve spoken with on our podcast and I certainly hope that WWE signs him as he could be invaluable in multiple areas for the wrestling side of the company IMO. It was the first time that we had talked in over a decade when I told him that, at that time, he wasn’t ready to be signed to a WWE contract to which Joe said motivated him and that he respected my honesty. Over the years I’ve become a big fan of his physical style but him getting trained in the Japanese style of wrestling helped him a great deal to become the star that he is today.”

On Sting: “Great seeing Sting on WWE TV which, for the longest time, I thought would likely never occur. Steve Borden is one of the best men in the biz and has always been a class act and one of my favorite people to work with over the years including his early days working in Mid South for Cowboy Bill Watts. I am beyond thrilled to see Sting finally get his ‘WrestleMania Moment’ this year as it is well earned and will be a moment that I will personally celebrate with The Stinger. Good things do often times happen to good people even in the wacky world of ‘rasslin.”

On Larry Zbyszko and Kevin Nash in the WWE Hall Of Fame: “Happy for Larry Zybszko going into the WWE HOF with Bruno Sammartino set to induct him. We all have our mentors and Bruno was Larry’s and the two Pittsburghers made money and had excellent matches together including the much ballyhooed Shea Stadium event back in the day. Larry was one of the more underrated broadcasters to work in the wrestling biz, too.”

“Sounds as if Kevin Nash will be the final inductee into the 2015 WWE HOF class and for that I’m happy. When Kevin couldn’t get the time of day when he first started in WCW, I used him my WSB Sunday night radio show and everyone soon found out that the former Tennessee Vol could talk and talk well. We’ve been friends ever since.”

WWE Lawyer Jerry McDevitt Comments On Wrongful Death Lawsuit From Nelson Frazier’s Widow

4

The Boston Herald has a new article up on Cassandra Frazier (widow of former WWE Superstar Nelson “Big Daddy V” Frazier) filing a wrongful death lawsuit against WWE, with comments from WWE attorney Jerry McDevitt.

The lawsuit is being brought against the company by Konstantine Kyros, an attorney who also filed a lawsuit against WWE on behalf of “Big” Vito LoGrasso and others regarding bran injuries.

McDevitt was quoted in the article stating that WWE will likely “seek sanctions” against Kyros for bringing “frivolous lawsuits” against the company, noting that they feel Kyros is simply looking for a payday.

The WWE attorney also pointed out the fact that WWE provides health and wellness services for all of their performers, even when they retire.

“They just ignore these things and allege whatever they feel like alleging,” said McDevitt. “You can’t do that as a lawyer. You have to be basing your allegations on a reasonable investigation of the facts. It’s not some creative writing exercise to see if you can get media attention.”

McDevitt said Frazier’s case is a tragedy, but that the nearly 500-pound wrestler’s death had nothing to do with his career as a professional wrestler.

“It’s an embarrassment to be a lawyer sometimes,” McDevitt stated. “It’s ridiculous that someone can … try to blame someone because a gentleman with a weight problem died of a heart attack in the shower eight years after he last performed. It’s ridiculous to try and blame someone for that.”

Updates On Kevin Owens’ Knee Surgery & Lana’s Absense

21

Speaking of that show, NXT women’s wrestler Becky Lynch says ticket sales are through the roof for what will be NXT’s biggest live audience yet:

Bully Ray Talks Possibly Working In NXT, Samoa Joe/WWE, Rey Mysterio Leaving WWE

7

Bully Ray spoke with Alex Obert of the Journey of a Frontman website while at Tommy Dreamer’s “House of Hardcore VIII” event in Philadelphia last weekend. Below are highlights from the interview.

On returning at the WWE Royal Rumble: “Well the Royal Rumble is a lot of fun. As far as the reaction was concerned, it was awesome. To be able to come back to Philadelphia ten years after I had left the WWE to that type of reception, you really can’t put any words to it. I kind of knew in the back of my head that I was gonna get a warm reception from the Philly crowd. Some people might of been shocked just how big the reaction was. It was overwhelmingly positive. If that was my last time that you ever saw me in a WWE ring again, not that I’m saying that I want it to be, but if that was the last time that you ever saw me, that’s a hell of a way to go out!”

On being in the ring with Luke Harper and Bray Wyatt: “I’m a big fan of those guys. I’m a big fan of most guys in the WWE, they’re all extremely passionate about what they do. You can tell that they whenever they go out there, they always strive to be the best and steal the show and do the absolute best that they can. The Wyatt Family is kind of reminiscent of the old Dudley clan back in the day. Big fan of Bray. Big fan of Luke and Erick Rowan. They’re doing a great job. It was fun to be in there with The Miz. It was fun to be in there with R-Truth doing the What’s Up and the 3D. It was all good, lots of fun.”

On possibly appearing at NXT: “I am open to anything that is fun and that would be good business. Me and D-Von have accomplished so much as a tag team and I’ve accomplished more than I thought I ever would as a singles guy. If you listen to the fans, they would love to see the Dudley Boyz back in the WWE and help bring that tag team division back to the heights that it once was. Our school is going on almost ten years now and we’ve been very proud of the students that we turn out. We are very proud of the way we train our students. On a whole, I’m really happy with the way everything has unfolded so far.”

On Rey Mysterio leaving WWE: “Whenever people leave a company or go to a company, everyone will ask what my thoughts are. It goes on every day. People come and go from companies every day, whether it’s wrestling or a bank or a big business or McDonald’s, people come and go all the time. When one person stays in a company for too long, they can sometimes get stagnant or stale. So it’s good because with Rey leaving WWE now, maybe he’ll go do some stuff that will light a fire under his ass even more. And now that opens up a spot for a younger guy in WWE to step up and become the next Rey Mysterio. It’s always good for the business when people come and go and rosters constantly get mixed up.”

On Samoa Joe possibly going to WWE: “That’s awesome for Joe. Great! I would love to see Joe be ultra successful in the wrestling business. WWE is the top of the food chain. When you get into pro wrestling, everybody always wants to wrestle for the WWE. Joe went to Ring of Honor, helped build Ring of Honor and he paid his dues there. He went to TNA and helped build TNA, paid his dues. Now he’s gonna have an opportunity with the WWE and I hope he knocks it out of the park. He’s worked very hard and he deserves it.”

Hulk Hogan Talks About His Favorite WrestleMania Memories, Relationship With Randy Savage

1

WWE Hall Of Famer Hulk Hogan spoke about his fondest WrestleMania memories and his relationship with “Macho Man” Randy Savage in the new WWE “Legends of WrestleMania” magazine. Below are some highlights.

On his favorite memories of WrestleMania: “You know, you can’t take anything away from that Andre match, brother. That’s a WrestleMania moment—93,000 people and Andre passing the torch to me. That match with The Rock, where I had been working for a different company, actually competing against this company, and came back here. The crowd showed their loyalty, that was huge. But if I really, really had to go with consistency, friendship and always being there for me, Randy [Savage] is the favorite guy.”

On his relationship with “Macho Man” Randy Savage: “Well, first off, when you work with Randy, it’s intense. The only other person that I could call at three or four o’clock in the morning to talk about wrestling and would even answer their phone is Vince McMahon. And that’s how Randy was. Except Randy called me! ‘Hey brother. Got an idea.’ So when you got in bed with Randy, you were in it for the long haul. Good or bad, brother. He’s going to drag you through the mud, whether you like it or not. And it was intense, because Randy was such a passionate person.”
