Plans For Daniel Bryan vs. Dolph Ziggler At WrestleMania 31 Off?, Update On Possible Changes

95

There’s a possibility that plans for a Daniel Bryan vs. Dolph Ziggler match at WrestleMania 31 may be off.

Some are speculating that once Bryan vs. Roman Reigns was made for the WWE Fast Lane pay-per-view in a number one contender’s match that the company had already started heading in a different direction leading into WrestleMania.

*Spoilers* For WWE Fast Lane & WrestleMania Involving Roman Reigns

While it’s unlikely, there is a possibility that Bryan ends up working against Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, however most assume that the main event will remain Reigns vs. Lesnar for the title.

Regarding the Bryan-Ziggler match, there is said to be a reason why WWE has Ziggler teaming up with Ryback for a tag-team match on tonight’s SmackDown show. Apparently there is talk of keeping Ziggler and Ryback as a duo and having them work a tag-team match at WrestleMania 31, which would obviously scrap the possibility of a Bryan-Ziggler singles match.

Charlotte Says She Will Headline A WWE PPV Some Day, Talks NXT Divas Division

45

NXT Divas Champion Charlotte recently spoke to the folks at talkSPORT’s “Gorilla Position” podcast about her future goals in WWE.

Regarding the Divas division in NXT, Charlotte claims fans haven’t fully seen yet what they are capable of.

“We’ve only given a taste [so far], that’s only a little bit of what the girls can do down here,” said Charlotte. “I don’t know how long it will take, but we won’t stop until we prove to the world NXT means business.”

The daughter of WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair continued, pointing out the fact that she fully believes she will headline a WWE pay-per-view one day.

“I guess that sounds cliched but that’s what I want to do. I want to be taken as… I know we’re not men, but I want to be a main eventer,” said Charlotte. “I know one day I will main event a pay-per-view. It might not be Wrestlemania, but it will be a pay-per-view.”

Update On Kalisto’s Gay Character, Possible Fast Lane Spoiler, Sting/WM31 Update

64

– Although it was reported on Tuesday via Reddit user “MetsFan4Ever” that WWE officials were considering changing NXT star Kalisto’s gimmick to that of a gay hair stylist, WWE sources reached out today and claimed that is not the case, and that Kalisto will not be changing characters at all.

MetsFan4Ever has since posted an update – stating that his initial report was that the idea was being considered – not that it was definitely happening. It remains to be seen if WWE does pull the trigger on this unique character change, but it was discussed.

– In what could be taken as a sign of a possible Fast Lane spoiler, as of this week the people in charge of handling the actual promotional materials for WrestleMania 31 were still under the impression that Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns will be the main event of the show. In the promotional materials, the workers were told to feature Reigns the most prominently, followed by Lesnar and John Cena.

It’s worth noting that WWE has not included Sting in any of the promotional materials for WrestleMania as of yet, and since he’s all but confirmed for the event, his involvement will likely be a major selling point for the show, so new materials will likely be released in the near future to include him.

Details On Changes To Original Plans For WWE Fast Lane Pay-Per-View

101

As seen on Monday’s RAW, Daniel Bryan vs. Roman Reigns is now set as the main event for the February 22nd WWE Fast Lane pay-per-view, with the winner going on to face Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 31.

Prior to the Royal Rumble backlash, the original plans for Fast Lane was to have Reigns defeat a top heel, possibly Big Show, in the main event on the show, while Bryan was likely to lose to Bray Wyatt in order to keep Wyatt strong for The Undertaker.

Regarding booking for Bryan, WWE originally wanted to put him in a match with Sheamus at WrestleMania 31, however Bryan himself requested that he work with Dolph Ziggler instead. It’s worth noting that it’s considered possible that Bryan still ends up working with Sheamus, although it is considered unlikely at this point.

Back-Story Behind Cesaro & Tyson Kidd’s New “Brass Ring Club” Name

47

As noted recently, Cesaro, Tyson Kidd and Adam Rose have been referring to themselves as the “Brass Ring Club” in recent weeks, including wearing t-shirts with a logo on it that is similar to the New Japan Pro Wrestling “Bullet Club” faction.

The nickname and t-shirt logos were done because WWE officials asked Cesaro and Kidd to come up with an idea for a name for their new tag-team. The two came up with the name “Brass Ring Club,” likely as a response to Vince McMahon’s “brass ring” speech during his appearance on the initial live “Stone Cold Podcast” on the WWE Network.

WWE officials reportedly liked the idea and the name, with many thinking it was a clever name for the duo.

There is no word yet, however, as to whether or not the company will accept the name for full-time use and get behind it.

WWE Continues To Have Miscommunication Between Their Own Departments

12

Another recent example of miscommunication between WWE departments came during the January 29th airing of WWE SmackDown in Canada.

During the show, WWE was pushing the Daniel Bryan vs. Kane “Casket Match” as the end of the Bryan-Kane feud, advertising it as their final match against each other.

Meanwhile, commercials during the same show were advertising Bryan vs. Kane matches at upcoming non-televised live events, and even included localized promos from Kane to promote the matches.

Backstage News On WWE Still Being Perceived As “Trashy” Among Advertisers

41

Regarding the perception of WWE in the advertising world right now, an executive who works in television ad sales and was working with Dodge recently said that the company bought time on shows that underperformed in the ratings, so they were owed “make good spots” on the station.

It was suggested to representatives that since the ads were essentially free at this point, to run them during WWE RAW, as the show draws well in the 18-49 demo, which is the demo that buys cars. The advertiser, when given the suggestion, first said that WWE would not be something that their company would ever purchase time from.

It was told to the reps that WWE has changed their image to become more advertiser friendly. The person then reportedly said, “I do understand that, but WWE doesn’t make sense for Dodge Dart. WWE is very trashy and not appropriate for our target.”

Jerry Lawler Makes Wrestling History At NBA Game, Photo Of WWE Title At Super Bowl Parade

6

– As noted, Jerry Lawler worked a match at the “Pro Wrestling Night” themed NBA game between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Oklahoma City Thunder on January 31st. Reuniting for the announcing of the match were Memphis Wrestling legends Lance Russell and Dave Brown, who are considered one of the best pro wrestling announcing teams in history.

Lawler, Ric Flair and Maverick, a local wrestler, did backstage promos and vignettes throughout the game and Lawler eventually worked a match.

There were 18,000 fans in attendance at the FedEx Forum in Memphis that night, and despite Lawler’s lengthy history in the city, it was said to be the largest crowd Lawler has ever worked a match in front of in that city.

As part of Memphis Wrestling night, the first 3,000 fans that showed up received replica championship belts. They also promoted the WWE Fast Lane pay-per-view, which will be held in the same arena on February 22nd.

You can check out photos of Lawler and Flair at the event by clicking here.

– Speaking of replica belts, as noted, Triple H sent the NFL’s New England Patriots some replica titles for the team to use during their Super Bowl victory parade. Stephanie McMahon recently tweeted the following photo of the team holding the belts in the air during the parade.

The Miz Talks Future Of His Tag-Team With Mizdow, Return Of Tough Enough, WM31

8

WWE Superstar The Miz recently spoke with the folks at Ring Rust Radio for an in-depth interview. During the discussion, Miz talked about the return of Tough Enough, his recent tag-team with Damien Mizdow and his hopes for this year’s WrestleMania.

Below are highlights from the interview:

On his recent role on “Sirens” on USA Network: “Here is what I want you to imagine. When you go to the gym, the guy grunting, wearing compression pants, barely has anything on, staring in the mirror, checking out his muscles, and flexing is the character that I am portraying right now. It was a lot of fun. I have been in a lot of gyms and seen a lot of these characters so it was a lot of fun to play. The cast of Sirens is just so cool and so fun. Sometimes when you do a guest-starring role, it’s very hard to come in because these guys all know each other and you don’t know anybody. They really made me feel like part of the family which made me very comfortable on set. That is acting 101, to be comfortable and relax and they made me feel like that. We had a lot of fun and it’s going to be a great episode. With Psych no longer on, I feel like Sirens has taking over where Psych left off. Psych was such a great show, a fun show, and an interesting show that I also once guest starred on. Now Sirens is taking over that funny, interesting, cool comedy that I’m really happy to be a part of.”

On what he takes away from his acting experiences: “You know anytime you get to act with different actors it’s a whole new experience. You learn so much about yourself and different things. Acting on a movie set is very different than acting in the WWE. In WWE we are performing for everybody in that arena. You have 18,000 strong cheering or booing you, where when you are on set you just have 20 people there. You don’t have anyone chanting “you suck” so it’s a completely different experience. You get more than one take, you get a bunch of different camera angles. You take what you learn from every experience and bring it back to the WWE. What I’ve learned is with acting and doing things for film you get a bunch of different takes, but in live TV you only get one.”

On finding downtime and what he does with it: “Time to myself is being in the WWE. We are on the road 250 days a year, we’re traveling, and the media stuff is a blast. I enjoy going to these different locations and going over the different media we do is a blast for me. Time to myself I don’t really need it. I’m young, I’m having fun, and as long as I’m having fun I don’t need time to myself. I want to work as much as possible because I enjoy what I’m doing.”

On the future of Miz and Damien Mizdow: “It’s funny that every sees to see this tension brewing between Mizdow and myself. The fact is that Damian is a stunt double. What was he doing before he met me? Nothing. He was crazy, he was barely on TV, and he never had a championship. Since he has been with me I have brought him to the promise land. I have made him relevant. I have made people cheer for him and love him. The reason why they are cheering for him is because he is an extension of me. If you watch him he is doing everything I do. So in a sense, everyone is cheering for me. So teasing this and that and the other thing, as long as Damian keeps doing what he is doing then that is completely fine with me. As long as he knows his place and where he stands. If he starts thinking that he is better than his place then we will start having problems.”

On how he and Mizdow play off each other and how they help each other in terms of furthering their characters: “It’s because I can play off of anyone and I am an amazing actor as well as a sport entertainer. I am a seasoned vet, I’ve been in WWE for ten years and I can make anybody look good. That is exactly what I am doing with Damian right now. I am making him look a million bucks, like the star that he could finally be. The problem is that if Damian decides that he is a bigger star than he really is, he is going to have a problem. Look at anyone that has been attached to me as a tag team partner, where are they at now? Look where Alex Riley is. You think he just wants to be in the preshow? No. Every Superstar wants to be in the main event of WrestleMania and do the things that I have done. If they over step their boundaries then they are going to have a problem. As long as Damian doesn’t overstep his boundaries, than he will be ok.”

On the return of Tough Enough and the benefits and disadvantages of participating: “I only see benefits to be honest with you. You look at me: a person trying to make it to the WWE, trying to get there, it’s difficult, and it’s hard. Putting a show like Tough Enough on air you get to see what people have to go through to make it into WWE. That is just a part of it. That’s just the beginning round. They don’t tell you about the middle and even the end game. I think it’s a great opportunity for people and the fans to really appreciate what people have to go through on a day-to-day basis. I love the show and it gave me the opportunity to be a WWE Superstar. I thank that show every day because if that show was never there, there may never have been a Miz.”

On what he hopes to do at WrestleMania: Everybody wants that moment. “That Monday after WrestleMania that everybody is talking about. Everybody saw that moment at the Super Bowl yesterday when Butler got that amazing interception and won that game that’s the kind of moment you want. Did he get the MVP? No he didn’t, but people are talking about Butler and that’s what I’m doing. Right now, Roman Reigns VS Brock Lesnar is probably going to be the main event at WrestleMania so obviously I can’t take that. I can make sure though that I have a moment that everybody remembers and is talking about that next morning. That is what the goal is.”

On the person he would most like to face at a WrestleMania: “Right now I would love to wrestle the Rock. It would be movie star VS movie star. Obviously I am a better actor than the Rock. I will be a bigger movie star I just need to find those couple of movies that really elevate me. I am building my cape and my resume right now to get to that level. Obviously the Rock is a little older than me and he is going to do great. I imagine I’ll be bigger, I’ll be the one hoisting up an Oscar and an Emmy and a Golden Globe as well as the WWE championship if we ever do get in that ring.”

On what he needs to do to get back to the WrestleMania main event level: “Everyone always has different answers for that type of question. I think they are a lot of things involved with getting to the main event of WrestleMania. With me when I started going towards the main event, I felt the elevation and kept feeling that every time I did something it got better and better. Right now I am feeling like I am in those beginning stages again. It takes a while to build until you get to that main event at WrestleMania. This WrestleMania main event is already set in stone, so I am looking forward to the next WrestleMania. To build and build, and get bigger and bigger. Just keep making entertaining television where people are captivated by the Miz and what I am doing. They always want to know what I am doing and what I am going to say when I am not there.”

On whether he feels he’s still trying to prove himself to fans and wrestlers because his journey to the top was so unconventional: “Every day of my life is a fight. I don’t think I will ever get the respect I deserve in the WWE. I will never go to the Philadelphia’s or the New York’s and get cheered or get “Miz is Awesome”. They just don’t like me and don’t respect me. They don’t respect the way I got to the WWE even though they respect people whose Daddy got them into the WWE which I find amazing to me. I felt like I did the right path and I did everything right. Obviously I did everything right because I am the one being successful and proving everyone wrong. So I do enjoy the negativity I get because I generate positivity out of it and use it as adrenaline and energy to basically go out there and perform to the best of my availability.”

Details On Who Put Together This Year’s Royal Rumble Match, WWE/Tapout Update

26

– Regarding the criticism of this year’s 30-man Royal Rumble match, Jamie Noble was the producer of the match, with Joey Mercury serving as the assistant in putting the match together. Also involved in helping structure the match were Michael Hayes, Pat Patterson and Brian James (aka Road Dogg). That is probably the reason James was so upset when seeing the reaction on Twitter, with people calling it the worst Royal Rumble match of all-time.

– WWE’s sponsorship deal with Tapout clothing has been officially completed. As noted last week, at this point it’s just a question of when the deal will be officially announced to the public.

Business Insider’s Graham Flanagan Explain What Everyone Gets Wrong About WWE Being Fake

3

Graham Flanagan, Senior Video Producer at BusinessInsider.com, has a video feature up on WWE and non-fans that don’t understand why we watch. Flanagan points out that WWE is worth over one billion dollars and has a large fanbase. Yet, there is still a large part of society that thumbs their nose at WWE and it’s fans. Some of those non-WWE fans don’t realize that we realize it’s pre-determined just like fans of TV shows like “Homeland” know that the show is not real.

He also explains the terms “marks” and “smart marks.” You can check out the video below. I think all of us know at least one person that wonders why we watch. This might be a post that you can share with them to drive home the point.

Update On Justin Gabriel’s WWE Departure: Walks Out During RAW, Upsets WWE Officials

46

Regarding Justin Gabriel quitting WWE a few weeks ago, word is that he made the decision to do so at the final RAW before the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

Gabriel showed up to RAW that day like he would any other, and was once again told that they had nothing for him that evening. At that point, Gabriel made the decision to leave the arena in the middle of the day.

One person informed WWE officials that Gabriel left to go sight-seeing, while another claimed he left the arena to go sky-diving.

Gabriel returned to the building a few hours later and was again told that WWE officials had nothing for him that night. He decided right then and there that he didn’t want to work for WWE any longer.

From there, Gabriel booked his flight home and while he was in between connecting flights, he received a phone call from the WWE head of talent relations, Mark Carrano. Carrano reportedly told him at that point that WWE had booked a segment for him on RAW, but that no one could find him anywhere in the arena to tell him that. It was then that Gabriel made his departure official, as he informed Carano that he had left the building and was quitting the company.

WWE officials were said to be unhappy with the way Gabriel handled the situation, but ultimately a few days later, they granted his release request.

Daniel Bryan Explains Why WWE Fans Seem To Get Behind Him More Than Cena & Reigns

43

WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan recently spoke to Digital Spy and talked about his appeal to the fans compared to John Cena and Roman Reigns.

“Part of the secret is people love saying ‘Yes!’,” said Bryan. “Even if people don’t like me, they have fun throwing their fingers in the air saying ‘Yes!’ So that is part of the secret, but another thing about John Cena and Roman Reigns – not that they’ve had an easy road to the top in WWE, John Cena was nearly fired before he became WWE Champion for the first time – but they probably had a much easier path than I did.”

Bryan continued, explaining that Cena and Reigns are more of a “prototypical WWE Superstar” than he is.

“They are more of the prototypical WWE Superstars than I am,” said Bryan. “So when I came in I don’t think any of the top WWE people looked at me as, ‘Oh this is somebody who we look at as being a future main eventer for WrestleMania’ or even a future WWE Champion, or even a future Intercontinental Champion!”

He concluded by sharing his belief that the WWE fans see how hard he works and know that he’s not automatically considered a top guy, whereas Cena and Reigns are immediately viewed as such.

“They looked at me like ‘Oh, this guy is good at what he does, he’s a good little wrestler, he can go out there and he can perform – he might get a little bit popular, but he’s never going to be The Guy’. Whereas somebody like Roman Reigns or John Cena – people look at them and they think, ‘Oh, this guy could be The Guy, let’s see what happens’, and that was never me.”

Video: Triple H Talks To Michael Cole About Rock/Sting, Fast Lane, Stone Cold Podcast

1

The latest edition of Michael Cole’s weekly sit-down video interview with Triple H is now online.

In this week’s installment, the two talked about the recent “Stone Cold Podcast” interview this past Monday night on the WWE Network, where HHH claims that his appearance on the show drew 40 percent more viewers than Vince McMahon’s interview on the show.

When talking about the controversy stemming from the Royal Rumble, “The Game” explained that “backing Roman Reigns into a corner” on Monday’s RAW was done in an attempt to make things fair, as he feels they didn’t get a fair result to the Rumble match this year and the changes they made now makes things fair.

HHH complained some more about The Rock and Sting interfering in his business in recent weeks. He says The Rock is always welcome in the WWE, but not in a way where he interferes in his business. He points out that Rock and Sting are not WWE Superstars.

He continued on the subject of Sting, bringing up their upcoming “face-to-face confrontation” at this month’s Fast Lane pay-per-view. He promises to put an end to their problem if Sting shows up at the pay-per-view, and if he doesn’t, Sting is the coward that he always thought he was.

Latest On Randy Orton’s WWE Return, NXT Preview For Tonight

13

– As noted recently, Randy Orton has been advertised locally to return at several of the past WWE television tapings, but was held back due to creative decisions made by the company. Orton is being advertised for the February 16th edition of RAW in Orlando, which is the Fast Lane “go-home” edition of the show. With Orton scheduled to return in time for a program at WrestleMania 31, one would assume that if he doesn’t return on the 2/16 RAW show, he will be returning either at the pay-per-view itself, or at RAW the following night.

– The following matches were taped at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida for tonight’s edition of NXT on the WWE Network:

– Emma vs. Carmella

– Adrian Neville vs. Baron Corbin (Semifinals of the No. 1 Contender’s Tournament)

– Bayley vs. Becky Lynch

– Hideo Itami vs. Finn Bálor (Semifinals of the No. 1 Contender Tournament)

– Sami Zayn and Adrian Neville vs. Kevin Owens and Tyson Kidd

Backstage Reaction To Stone Cold’s Podcast With Triple H

37

Stone Cold Steve Austin’s podcast with Triple H from Monday night continues to make headlines, which is not surprising considering the number of controversial topics discussed.

Regarding Triple H’s comments a bout CM Punk where he said there is no animosity between the two parties, a lot of people were rolling their eyes at that one. That said, Triple H’s description of Punk saying “everything’s fine” when everything is not fine is viewed as a pretty accurate assessment of his demeanor.

WWE talent was also surprised that Triple H acknowledged that he prefers a 2-hour format for RAW. While its certainly a popular opinion, there are no plans to scale back RAW due to the millions of dollars WWE generates in ad revenue from the extra hour of prime time programming each week.

It’s also worth noting that during Triple H’s weekly sit down interview with Michael Cole at WWE.com, Triple H said that the show did 40% more viewers than Vince McMahon’s appearance on the Stone Cold Podcast back in December.

NXT Star Kalisto’s New Character: Gay Hair Stylist?

84

One of the reasons that WWE had The Lucha Dragons, Sin Cara and Kalisto, drop the NXT Tag-Team Championships recently is because they are contemplating giving Kalisto a new gimmick.

Verified Reddit user MetsFan4Ever noted recently that WWE is looking for a new masked Superstar to take over the void that Rey Mysterio will soon be leaving, however they have recently tried using Kalisto under a new, unmasked gimmick — that of a homosexual hair stylist.

WWE officials were reportedly pleased with Kalisto’s performance as that character and as a result, they are said to be seriously considering having him do that gimmick permanently instead of continuing with his current Kalisto character.
