Paige Explains Why WWE Wanted Her On Total Divas, Her Relationship With AJ Lee

20

The following are highlights of a new Miami Herald interview with WWE Diva Paige:

On why officials wanted her on Total Divas: “That’s the thing about ‘Total Divas’ because you don’t expect me on it; so it brings something new to the table. That’s pretty much why they wanted me on it in the first place. They wanted me a while back. At first, I was like, ‘No.’ It was wrestling, wrestling, wrestling. After a while, I spoke to my family about it. Then when the opportunity came again, it was like, ‘You know what. Yes. I’m going to do it.’ It was an opportunity I didn’t want to regret later on. These are girls I work with all the time, and they are great people. So I thought, ‘Why wouldn’t I want to work with them on a reality show, too?’ The only thing I was worried about is that I shut off from my personal life. I’m not good at opening up with people. It took me a while on the show to do it, but when you see it you will say, ‘Okay. That’s the reason why.’”

On what to expect from her on the show: “You’re going to see me be very blunt with people. You’ll see me have some kind of confrontation, whether it be physical or verbally. You’ll see me make terrible decisions. You know what though; that’s me. I just like people can see it. They can see I am completely different than the rest of the girls. I change the whole dynamic. You’ll see me open up. I’m going to share a lot, which I never do. I’m going to share a lot of my background and a past relationship. You’ll see a lot of that, but then you’ll also see the crazy stuff I’m up to because I try to make the most out of my days off. When we are home, you run errands typically. But I’m like, ‘No, I’m going to do this or that.’ I’m a little bit of an adrenaline junky. I’m doing a lot of crazy stuff, and I drag Foxy [Alicia Fox] and Rosy [Rosa Mendes] along for the ride.”

On her relationship with AJ Lee: “She is actually one of my best friends. She knew I was coming up, and this was my debut. Here is me, this girl from NXT that wins the championship on her first day. AJ was so sweet and so humble, and she helped me every step of the way. She was incredibly nice. She gave me tips. Before she went away for a little bit, she told me what to do and how to react. She helped me with promos. I would go to her and say, ‘Hey, what do you think about this?’ Then she would say, ‘That’s good, but what if you did it this way?’ She is so helpful. We travel together. I’m so lucky to have her and work with her. She has always been this different diva, kind of like the anti-diva. I really looked up to her. I’m happy to have had a storyline with her.’”

  • Jim Ross Talks Vince McMahon’s “Brass Ring” Speech, His WWE Departure, GFW

    9

The following are highlights of a new U.K. Mirror interview with WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross:

On working Global Force Wrestling’s English-language presentation of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 9 this weekend: “Jeff Jarrett made the inroads, he and my business manager worked out the deal, it was a win-win for both of us, so I said ‘I’m in.’ I’m excited about it. I’ve been in this business for 40 years, so when you get a chance to do something new after being around that long, it’s pretty motivating. I look at this as a new adventure, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

On if he will call another event after this weekend: “I don’t know if I’ll do any more, I don’t know that I want to do any more. If there’s anything after that it’ll be a bonus. But I’m going to do this show, I’m preparing to do this show, like it’s my last major pay-per-view lead play-by-play.”

On his WWE departure: “I had 21 years there – it wasn’t like I had a brief little run and everything was over. I had a great run in WWE, I went into the Hall of Fame, there were a lot more good days than bad ones. Was it the ideal way to exit? Probably not. I assumed a level of responsibility in that SummerSlam symposium, I was driving the train and the train got off the tracks, so the decision was made that it wasn’t a good thing and I moved on.”

On Vince McMahon saying he would be open to working with Ross again on Steve Austin’s podcast: “There’s an old expression in wrestling that says ‘never say never’, when you are in my stage of my life, where I’ve been so blessed with this career, I’m not going to tell you that I’d never go [back] but it’d strictly depend on my role and how much time away from home it would demand. I leave the door open. Would I say definitively no, I would never work for WWE again? Absolutely not. It would necessitate me to give it some thought and it would depend on what the job description was and what they wanted me to do. I’m 62, I’ll be 63 in January, I have to be conscious of jobs.”

On whether or not TNA tried to hire him: “No. They know I don’t have any desire to get back in the weekly grind of that. Dixie and no-one else has asked about me coming back full-time and that’s why this opportunity [with GFW] was so fit really – it was a one-time deal, a one-off. I like knowing I don’t have any pressure on me beyond that, I can focus on this one big event, really try to nail it without any pressure that I’ve got to do something tomorrow, or next week, or next month.”

On agreeing with Vince that no WWE Superstar has grabbed the brass ring since John Cena: “Since we signed John Cena, no-one has outworked John Cena. John Cena’s work ethic is beyond reproach. It’s been phenomenal to see what he does and he’s made himself a brand. John was willing to do things that had not been done, he was willing to take a chance – his wrestling attire was non-traditional, he was a Caucasian rapper and that was unique for wrestling, that was bold. Vince made a good point, Cena did all he could to become the guy. Has anyone else since John Cena worked in every phase of their game to get really good? I think the argument could be made that some have worked as hard as Cena in some areas, but not across the board as he has.”

“Sometimes if you look at your talent as athletes, not entertainers, they need to be challenged occasionally – we need you to play better, I need you to lose 20 pounds, I need you to work on your tan, as silly as that sounds. From an athletic point of view, every coach has those heart-to-hearts with their team at some point in time. If you’re going to go down the athletic road, every now and then they need a pep talk, and every now and then they need to ask themselves, ‘What have I done to make myself better than I was last week? What am I doing to make myself a more valuable player?’ I think Vince is sending a subtle message there, or not-so-subtle, that Cena was the last guy that went the complete distance to grab the brass ring. And then when he grabbed the brass ring he didn’t quit growing, he kept trying to get better. He’s their guy right now, lord knows what they would be without John Cena.”

  • Brie Bella Teases Big Storyline For Total Divas, Nikki Talks Relationship With Cena

    2

The Bella Twins spoke to the folks at E! Online to promote this Sunday’s return of WWE Total Divas on the E! network. Below are some excerpts from the interview.

Brie Bella on having baby fever and a big tease for this season: “You actually have to tune-in this season. Because there is a huge decision I have to make and it’s kind of crazy what the cameras caught so I’m really excited because it’s a really big moment in my life.”

Nikki Bella on her family interfering in her relationship with John Cena last season: “The family drama was tough because you know, also being in entertainment, she (Brie) is the only one who truly has my back and is someone that I trust. And my family too. My mom’s my best friend, my brother, and so when I watched all that and saw what they did, one, I felt terrible for John. Like, how do you put him in that position? And two, I was beyond shocked that they would do that to me. And it was very difficult; it’s like one of those things that you could forgive but you can’t forget. And it’s still kind of difficult when I think about it, I kinda get a little pissed.”

    0

The following are highlights of a new Radio Yorkshire interview with TNA’s Rockstar Spud:

On Impact Wrestling network negotiations: “Every few years, TNA and Dixie have to go through these negotiations and the way social media has evolved over the last three years, has been ridiculous, so now everyone feels apart of everything that is going on, we have these negotiations regularly there not an issue, but because now with social media, people are saying their having negotiations everyone is making a mountain out of a molehill, it’s seems to just snowball, none of us internally were worried what was happening because we knew what was going on.”

On working with Ethan Carter III: “When we first met, we were a bit wary of each other, I’d never really anything of his previous work, I didn’t know that was him but for him it was a fresh start with the right opportunity, that is what wrestling is about it’s about the right person getting the right opportunity and the right people watching. Both us have the same mindset to wrestling, we both have the same thoughts onto getting the baby face over, we have the same sort of teaching we both have been to OVW and have that instant chemistry.”

On Destination America: “It’s such a positive thing, Spike were amazing partners they really were, but we’re now on a network much like Challenge in England, their whole channel has a big hole for wrestling, that’s what Destination America is, their whole thing is catered towards Impact Wrestling now they bring a lot of their live audience and a lot of their viewers, which can only help their channel like with Challenge in England.”

On Dixie Carter: “She’s amazing, I couldn’t ask for a better boss, on camera she is an absolutely evil woman but off camera the most wonderful person you will ever meet. She’s personable, polite, and a friend.”

The show opened with Adrian Neville coming out and talking about how he should be coming out to congratulate Sami Zayn on his title win, but Zayn couldn’t be there to accept it because of Kevin Owens. Charlotte came out for a promo. She said that she’s beaten everyone there is to beat in NXT. Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch came out and jumped Charlotte, but Natalya ran out to even things up and set up a future tag match.

    5. Finn Bálor and Hideo Itami beat The Ascension. There was another GTS tease by Itami which once again popped the crowd big and enticed a “GTS” chant. Itami scored the win after a spinning roundhouse kick.

  • Jim Ross Blog: NXT Takeover: R Evolution Thoughts, Kevin Owens, Corey Graves

    7

The following are highlights of the latest blog by WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross:

On NXT Takeover: R Evolution: “Enjoyed Thursday night’s NXT two hour special a great deal. The two hour show buzzed by quicker than a hiccup in one of the best produced wrestling shows I’ve seen in a long while. The show had a great start with the debut of Kevin Owens and ended with a startling and shocking close with Owens turning on his long time friend from Quebec Sami Zayn moments after new NXT Champion Zayn won the title from Adrian Neville in a helluva wrestling match.

There was nothing on the show that I did not enjoy for what role they each talent filled on the broadcast. There was a purpose in every segment and the talents worked smart and hard to maximize their valuable minutes.”

On Kevin Owens: “Owens is a keeper and has a uniquely, physical style that I like. Finn Balor had as memorable an entrance as I can recall in years. Neville vs Zayn could well challenge any thing we see at TLC….I hope the main roster was watching. Competition is knocking on their door. Charlotte vs. Sasha was crisp and well executed. Charlotte is getting so good that it could be scary in time. Sasha has a natural ‘attitude’ which is marketable. Great stuff from start to finish of this show.”

On Corey Graves: “I especially thought the announcers were excellently prepared and did a superb job all night. Nice to see Corey Graves get an opportunity to contribute as a broadcaster considering that concussion issues have curtailed his wrestling career. Cory got off to a great start and complimented his partners well. I admit that I’m often times too critical of pro wrestling announcing but Thursday night was a pleasure with which to listen.”

Bray Wyatt On Vince McMahon’s “Brass Ring” Speech, Wyatt Family Split & More

    15

The following are highlights of a new Chad Dukes Wrestling Show interview with Bray Wyatt

On the image projected from the lantern during the Hell in a Cell finish: “One thing and I want to get this out there so no one’s misconstrued, that was not Abigail… I don’t think anyone has looked closely enough. I think everyone skipped over that part and chocked it up to being some fancy illusion or something. I don’t ever do something just to be doing it. There’s always a point behind everything.”

On the Wyatt Family: “There is no breakup. That’s another thing I’d like to get out there. There’s friction between [Harper & Rowan] and that’s kinda part of the issue, is relinquishing some of that. When the Wyatt family is needed, the Wyatt Family will always be, and that’s the way I designed it, and that’s the way it will go on for ten, fifteen, who knows how long. The Wyatt Family is far from over, I can assure you of that. “I’m very proud of [Rowan], sometimes. He’s done some things since we split that I haven’t necessarily agreed with. I’m not so sure he’s a genius with a big IQ, I’m actually a hundred percent sure of that. [Laughs] But Harper is the Intercontinental Champion and that’s exactly where he belongs and why he needed to go out on his own. Because Harper is one of the greatest, most malicious entities in the entire WWE. He should be free to go after things like that.”

On Dean Ambrose: “This feud with me and Dean, if you look back at the Shield and all that, me and Dean Ambrose years ago would just be killing each other with bull ropes in armories all over Florida in front of ten people. I think it will go on forever. As long as we both can walk and survive after TLC.”

On Dream Matches: “I couldn’t help but notice that me and Steve had this natural chemistry together. I wish he’d lace the boots up. I’d really like to steal a couple shows with him… I still have my set matches that I think that I can possibly accomplish, but there’s four names that always keep reoccurring that would be big enough to be my dream matches: Jake Roberts, Steve Austin, Undertaker, & Sting. I want to get all four of those in my career and I’d like to. I’m not saying it’s not a possibility, I think I could get all four of those.”

On the Brass Ring comment: “I heard about the brass ring and all that, as far as I’m concerned my fingertips are already grasping that sucker right now. And if I don’t, if I never grab that sucker, I’m at least gonna yank it down and everyone’s coming down with me.”

Jack Swagger Responds To Vince McMahon Saying The Locker Room Is Not Ambitious Enough

    42

Jack Swagger was interviewed by Mike Jones of DC101 on Monday and commented on a number of topics, including Vince McMahon telling Steve Austin that the Attitude Era roster was more ambitious than today’s Superstars. Here are the highlights:

Vince Saying The Locker Room Is Not As Ambitious As The Attitude Era:

“This is an environment where literally hundreds of thousands of people want to be on this roster, and there’s what, 75 of us on top? To get here you have to be very ambitious but to stay here you need even more. It takes a lot of drive and a lot of hard work. I can only speak for myself that I have gotten hungrier. As far as the rest of the locker room, you know, it’s tough but you gotta see the finish line and sometimes that’s hard to do.”

    The Wrestlers Training At NXT:

“I know they’re training hard, otherwise they wouldn’t be there. They have a sign on the wall that says ‘When one comes in, one has to go out.’ It’s very cutthroat down there and I know that they wouldn’t be there unless they wanted it.”

    His Feud With Rusev:

“We had a very memorable matchup back in the summer, finishing up at Summerslam. And then last week he tried to go after Slaughter, now week he got Zeb. It’s time to stop all the jokes, stop all the talking and get down to who is tougher, and I got a feeling America will come out on top.”
