WWE Magazine Hints At Dean Ambrose Leaving The Shield

70

The new issue of WWE Magazine features a fan Q&A section where Dean Ambrose refers to Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns as his “former partners.” When asked which WWE Superstars make him laugh, he replied:

“My former partners, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. I was probably the class clown of the group so I’d usually start the joking and ribbing. But those two are hilarious. Daniel Bryan is funny too but more because he’s funny looking.”

While this is by no means a sign that The Shield is breaking up any time soon, it’s a strong indication that The Shield was in fact planned to break up around WrestleMania time, as was rumored earlier this year.

Michelle Beadle Talks About Her Backstage Incident With AJ Lee That Ended Her Friendship With CM Punk

96

Sports reporter Michelle Beadle was Jim Ross’ guest on this week’s Ross Report podcast at PodcastOne.com and spoke about her infamous backstage incident with AJ Lee at last year’s Tribute to the Troops tapings.

Michelle said that she considered Phil a friend but apparently she was wrong. She saw him backstage at Tribute to the Troops and affectionately said “What up F*** face?” She noted that Punk was alone at the time and she was with members of WWE PR at the time. Then the next thing she knows, AJ Lee confronted her and started yelling in her face, which she thought was a rib. She looked at Punk to get his reaction of what was happening, but he kept his back to her. WWE apologized to her for AJ’s behavior. A few days later, she saw websites writing about the altercation.

Michelle Beadle Says CM Punk Suffers From “Crazy Girlfriend Neutering”

While she and CM Punk used to go out to dinner and text each other, they stopped being friends that day.

“Phil was one of those cool guys that didn’t fall into a certain role and kind of did what he wanted but to watch all of that happen and have someone tattle on me and have their girlfriend get in my face is a little pathetic. It’s ok, i’ve moved on.”

JR asked her if she was surprised at CM Punk’s decision to leave WWE. She said she’s not shocked he left, but it’s more shocking that he has not yet returned. She expected him to appear at WrestleMania and as a WWE fan, she misses his TV character.

Other topics discussed include her job at ESPN, how she became a wrestling fan and more. She also revealed that she’s had talks with WWE about joining the company. You can listen to the full interview below:

What Happened After RAW Went Off The Air With John Cena & Bray Wyatt

13

After Monday’s WWE RAW from Knoxville, Tennessee went off the air, John Cena grabbed a microphone and joked about the locals drinking moonshine all weekend to celebrate Memorial Day. Since a lot of people were clearing out, he said it must be past “last call.” He then started singing “Rocky Top” with the crowd, which brought out Bray Wyatt.

John Cena taunted him with the “no pearls in your pants” routine, which provoked Wyatt and led to a match. Cena defeated Wyatt with an Attitude Adjustment in about 6 minutes.

Both men hit their signature spots, with Cena kicked out of Sister Abigail. Towards the end, the referee got knocked out, allowing Rowan and Harper to interfere. Bray brought a steel chair into the ring but accidentally hit Rowan with it, allowing Cena to hit his finisher for the win. After the match, Cena sang Rocky Top again as he left the ringside area.

Overall, it was a lively crowd, with a good portion of the upper deck curtained off.

The Authority, Kane & Brad Maddox Fired

This week’s show begins with an extensive Memorial Day video package. After that, we shoot live inside the arena and Justin Roberts introduces Stephanie McMahon and Triple H. HHH’s “King of Kings” music plays and out to the ring comes The Authority.

Stephanie begins by welcoming us to a “historic edition of Monday Night Raw.” She says tonight is all about choices. She says Daniel Bryan has the choice tonight to do the right thing and surrender the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The fans break out in “Yes!” chants.

HHH continues by talking about how some people become flash-in-the-pans and some people become legends. He calls Daniel Bryan a flash-in-the-pain. A light “CM Punk” chant breaks out in Knoxville. HHH then goes on to talk about how Evolution are legends and that The Shield won’t be able to stop them at Payback this Sunday.

“The Game” goes on to talk about the contract signing tonight between Evolution and The Shield.

Stephanie takes over and says an issue with RAW General Manager Brad Maddox needs to be addressed. She orders Maddox to come out to the ring. Maddox enters the ring and HHH yells at him for allowing Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns to serve as guest commentators for the Roman Reigns vs. Batista match last week, despite orders from The Authority that no member of The Shield be at ringside. HHH asks Maddox to explain himself.

Maddox says he didn’t want to let The Shield be guest commentators. He says he was forced. Stephanie says she heard Maddox got roughed up by The Shield and understands that he didn’t have a choice. She says he hopes he understands that right now they have no choice.

Kane’s music and fire-pyro explodes and “The Big Red Machine” makes his way to the ring. Stephanie orders Kane to teach him a lesson. Kane obliges and chokeslams Maddox and then Tombstone Piledrivers him. Kane’s fire-pyro explodes again, his music plays, and Kane and The Authority stand over a fallen Maddox.

Stephanie asks for the music to be cut. She says she forgot to mention one thing. She tells Brad Maddox, “you’re fired.” Triple H’s “King of Kings” plays again as The Authority and Kane make their way to the back. We head to our first commercial break of the evening.

Cesaro (with Paul Heyman) vs. Rob Van Dam

When we return from commercial, after a quick “Bo Dallas makes RAW debut tonight” vignette, we see Cesaro and Paul Heyman already standing in the ring. Rob Van Dam is introduced by Justin Roberts, and RVD makes his way to the ring. Out next is Bad News Barrett, who cuts a “Bad News” promo on his way to the ring about Memorial Day and Van Dam losing to him this Sunday at Payback. Barrett joins the commentary team for this match, which is a one-on-one encounter between Van Dam and Cesaro.

The bell rings and here we go. Van Dam gets an early lead, all-the-while Barrett is talking on commentary about how he’s not going to beat him at Payback this Sunday. We head to an early mid-match commercial.

When we return from commercial, Cesaro is in firm control of the match, going for multiple near-falls in a row. We see some highlights of action during the break of Cesaro throwing RVD out to the floor.

Van Dam makes a comeback and hits pretty much all of his RVD-type moves. Barrett appears out of nowhere, leaving commentary to interfere, but Van Dam sees him and kicks him before he can enter the ring. As soon as RVD turns around, however, Cesaro rolls him up for the 1-2-3.

    Winner: Cesaro

After The Match: “The Celtic Warrior” Attacks

After the match, Sheamus’ music hits. The WWE United States Champion sprints to the ring and ultimately blasts Cesaro — his opponent for Payback this Sunday — with a Brogue Kick. We head to another commercial.

Eva Marie (with Nikki Bella) vs. Summer Rae

When we return from commercial, we see Eva Marie and Nikki Bella standing in the ring. Summer Rae makes her way to the ring.

The bell rings and here we go with a Divas singles match between Marie and Rae. Summer gets control of the match, but is eventually distracted, as Fandango and Layla come out, dance around and make out. Eva rolls her up and gets the 1-2-3.

    Winner: Eva Marie

Batista & Randy Orton and Goldust & Cody Rhodes Argue, Triple H Makes A Match

Backstage, we see Randy Orton and Batista talking. In walks Goldust and Cody Rhodes. They say they’re issuing an open challenge to any tag-team tonight. The two teams argue until Triple H comes in and makes a match between the two teams. HHH says this won’t be any ordinary match. We head to commercial.

  • Matt Striker Speaks On WWE Commentary Style, WWE’s Version Of ECW & More

    9

The following are highlights of a new In Your Head Wrestling interview with Matt Striker:

On people yelling in your ear while doing commentary: “Again, this has always been brought up; people say they’ve heard guys like Mick Foley or Tazz say this or that. You have to understand; those guys had a much different relationship with Vince (McMahon) than I did. Mick Foley made millions of dollars with Vince; I’m sure they spoke to each other differently than Vince would speak to me. I can say that I never was straight-up yelled at in my ear. Did Vince give passionate direction? Sure, but you have to understand what the man wants. If Vince comes in your ear and says “Talk to me about how strong Sheamus is” and you just repeat what Vince says “Well, Sheamus is really strong” of course he’s going to get angry. But if you go into a story about how strong Sheamus is, because Mark Henry noticed that Sheamus bench-pressed as much as he did in the gym earlier today, well now you’re giving it some depth. And I think that once Vince realized that I understood what he was looking for, he kind of left me to my own devices, as bad as some of my devices may have been in hindsight.”

On WWE’s version of ECW and working with the original ECW guys: “Yeah, my thoughts were again, “Oh cool, I’m a part of something.” Looking back, ECW really gave me a vehicle to get a little bit of quality television time and ECW also got me to WrestleMania. When else would Matt Striker get an opportunity to go to WrestleMania? I was real fortunate for that, and some of the matches that we had I’m real proud of. The matches with guys like Rob Van Dam, Sabu, Sandman, Tommy Dreamer, Stevie Richards, Danny Doring, and Guido, they weren’t wrestling matches; those were fights. You fight those guys, and you end up either becoming really close friends with them, or you can’t stand the sight of their face.”

Storyline Plans For The WWE World Heavyweight Championship

    68

Update: On RAW, Daniel Bryan refused to surrender the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to Stephanie McMahon. Stephanie showed Bryan footage of his wife Brie putting her hands on her two weeks ago when Bryan was stretchered out on RAW, which Stephanie said was grounds for firing. Bryan now has until Sunday’s Payback pay-per-view to decide if he will surrender the title. Whether or not the title is vacated on Sunday or not, it’s still rumored that a new champion will be crowned soon.

Daniel Bryan’s WWE Return Could Take Longer Than Expected

With WWE Payback being this Sunday and the top matches for that show already finalized, there’s a lot of talk behind the scenes that the vacated WWE World Heavyweight Championship will be up for grabs at the June 29th Money in the Bank pay-per-view.

Making that show a “must see event” – we could see one MITB match for the vacated championship and second MITB match, with the usual Money in the Bank briefcase on the line, containing a contract for a future title shot.

Tyler Reks Shares Some Advice To Released WWE Stars, Talks NXT & More

    12

The following are highlights of a new Journey Of A Frontman interview with former WWE Superstar Tyler Reks:

Alex Obert: For the wrestlers on the road, how does a ten minute match in the ring compare to a standard workout?

Gabe Tuft: It’s two completely different animals. There is no substitute for in ring conditioning, there’s just none. You can be overweight, you can be skinny, or you can be in super good athletic shape with a great physique, but you may not have ring shape. It’s all about being able to take bumps, there’s really intense stresses that are being put on your body in the ring. And you just cannot compare to that. But building muscle outside the ring is also completely different and it’s necessary because the idea of wrestling is to look at somebody with a decent physique. Sometimes you get guys that are bigger and heavier on purpose and that’s their character, but for the most part, we want to see athletes. So that takes a completely separate regimen. If you’re on the road, doing house shows and TV every week doing a ten, twelve, fifteen minute match, that’s gonna keep your wind up in the ring. But you still need to go and you still need to lift.

Alex Obert: Who were your favorite wrestlers to work out with on the road?

Gabe Tuft: Masters was awesome cause he didn’t miss a day. Hawkins because we rode together all the time. Curtis, currently known as Fandango, another great guy to lift with. Tyson Kidd. Just guys that are really consistent that aren’t afraid to be pushed or to push me. Alex Riley was always in the gym, good guy to work out with. Mason Ryan, obviously huge and an inspiration, I think he was one of my main motivators while I was there. So those guys, great guys to work out with.

Alex Obert: With leaving WWE and starting your own business with Body Spartan, what is your advice for current WWE and TNA wrestlers who might unexpectedly get released and need a game plan so they don’t wind up on the indies in their fifties and sixties?

Gabe Tuft: That’s a tough one. They can always come work for Body Spartan! (laughs) The door is wide open for any of my brothers in the wrestling community to come take part and be apart of the team. But on a separate note, as far as starting a business, I was lucky enough that I have a degree in civil engineering and I’ve always been an internet geek, that I was able to start something from scratch. I started an internet marketing company with my brother in law. I would just say for the guys out there, wrestling is not the end all. There is life after wrestling. You just have to stay motivated. It’s like in the book where I talk about finding motivation for being in the gym, the same goes for life outside wrestling. Gotta be motivated to go make money. Be innovative. Be entrepreneurial. Don’t get caught up in the rat race cause if you’re wrestling, you don’t wanna be in the rat race anyway. You’re meant for something different with all the ways to make money out there. I encourage guys that if that happens, call me, tweet me, I’d be happy to chat with you. I do start ups all the time and we help brand new companies with their branding and with their digital marketing. Any of those guys, man, I’m happy to have a free consult, sit down to do a phone conference, and hopefully get ‘em on the right path.

Alex Obert: Getting into your wrestling career, the first question I have, what was it like on NXT Redemption working main event programs with promo time and lengthy matches?

Gabe Tuft: It was the best thing that ever happened to us. Before, when on Smackdown and RAW, things were happening so quick, we would just sit there and hope for a match. If we got one, it was really short and there’s no time for promos. We couldn’t develop our characters. And all of a sudden, while on the C show, Vince just didn’t care about that. It was obvious because the writers were like, “Well, they don’t care so do whatever you want.” Tom was one of the main writers and he just came up with these great ideas, he came from a soap opera background, so he loved storylines. He was into writing not just a story for this week, but a story for five or six weeks, which as you saw, was something that happened. And we got tons of mic time, long matches, and I loved it. Hawkins loved it. It helped us develop our characters. And we had this miniature cult following and they loved it. Some people on social media were just saying that NXT Redemption was better than RAW and Smackdown. I don’t know if that’s true, but I had a great time. I enjoyed the fact that the fans loved it and they appreciated it and they liked the storylines and matches. We’re not Jerichos, we’re not Ortons, we’re not Cenas, we don’t have that many years under our belt, but we had a good time. And we think it was pretty entertaining.

Alex Obert: What’s your take on why WWE chose to abandon the competition format on NXT Redemption midway through the season and basically turn it into what the WWE version of ECW was?

Gabe Tuft: I think it was just a lack of anybody in a position to make decisions that cared. I just think it was kind of fallen off the radar, they had too much going on. The competition, it just started going on forever. The writers didn’t really think past this week, they never really thought into the future, it’s just what’s going on that week. “Okay, we’ve got Cena to wrestle, we’ve got Orton to wrestle, these guys wrestle. We’ll spend two minutes writing NXT.” That kind of thing. So it just kind of became it’s own different show, the whole competition just suddenly disappeared! (laughs) Nobody had any idea what was going on.

Alex Obert: A true wrestling veteran, William Regal, was apart of NXT Redemption. What did you learn from him?

Gabe Tuft: Regal is just a book of knowledge. And it was little things like ways to engage the crowd, how to pick one single person out of the crowd that was an agitator and to make eye contact, getting that person riled up so the people in the crowd would get riled up, just ways to work the crowd. How to work differently and creatively, how to build a story creatively, how to take our time. There’s a lot of stuff that the vets can offer, a lot of knowledge that you just can’t get in FCW and you can’t get unless you work with the guys in the ring, whether they’re there to compete or watch your matches and give you advice. It was not something that he just dished out. He was quiet at first and then he understood that we cared and we wanted to learn, so he gave us a little more and a little more and before you know it, he was helping us out quite a bit.

Alex Obert: You also worked a lot with Matt Striker on NXT Redemption. What was your relationship with him like backstage?

Gabe Tuft: Striker’s a great guy. He would always pull me aside and give me advice. Him and I are buddies, again, great guy. Another guy with a lot of knowledge, a great amount of knowledge for creating a story that’s interesting, not just going out there and wrestling, but telling a story. It’s just kind of a lost art. That’s what those vets have to offer. And Striker would watch every match and watch every promo Hawkins and I did. He’d sometimes pull me aside or grab me and grab Hawkins and say, “Real quick, just wanted to tell you this, this, this. Maybe try this or may I suggest you talk to the writer and try something like this? You got nothing to lose.” And ninety nine percent of the time, he was right. He just had a ton of good ideas that came to fruition for us.
