Zema Ion Addresses Recent Life Struggles, TNA Stars Predict “Breaking Bad” Finale, Meet ODB

7

– In June, inactive TNA Wrestling star Zema Ion’s fundraising campaign following an emergency appendectomy was futile as it failed to raise the needed $30,000 he was hoping to raise—it only raised $6,648, which he did not receive. Ion recently appeared on The Pain Clinic (listen here) and revealed that he became depressed after being informed he may have cancer, not to mention that he owes thousands of dollars in medical bills. He dubbed the ordeal “a really dark time,” but says he’s feeling better these days.

MVP Speaks On Possibly Going To TNA, Why He Left New Japan, Bryan/Punk

6

The following are highlights from a new interview with former WWE Superstar MVP:

Update on his wrestling career: I’ve been fun–employed, living life and enjoying it. As far as the musical single, it’s a hobby that I’ve been having fun with, if it catches on and something happens, that’s cool. It’s just an outlet for me. I’ve been in touch with my people from Lionsgate developing this TV show that’s in the works, not a reality show! It’s a documentary show and taking some time off from wrestling. Let my body heal up and checking out the scene.

Reasons on leaving New Japan Pro Wrestling: I wanted to stay closer to home to work that’s in development which is pretty cool. But besides that just recharging the batteries. I love New Japan (Pro Wrestling). People that know me and know my story and know that Japanese wrestling is the apex of pro wrestling for me. To have been in Japan, to have been the inaugural IWGP Intercontinental Champions, to have been accepted in there wrestling culture and to have spent the time there was a dream come true and I needed to back up for a second, reassess the scene and decide what I wanted to do.

Going back to wrestling in Japan or the United States: That’s the beautiful thing of having options. As I understand it, when I gave my notice to New Japan they made it very clear when I wanted to return, the door was open for my return. Now that All-Japan (Pro Wrestling) is trying to kick things up, (Masahiro) Chono is there, my good friend Low-Ki is there, I understand that D-Lo (Brown) is there, I’ve been told there is some interest on that side of the street. Domestically, when I left WWE, I was told that the door is still open. I was there when they were here in Houston recently for Smackdown and I came by and said hello, gave hi-fives to everybody and there was no serious conversation about a potential return but if there was a discussion and I would be defiantly willing to talk and that’s kind of where we left it. Same thing with TNA. I’m always willing to talk but it’s just not there right now. The scene is real interesting. WWE is banged up with injuries and a lot of young guys that they are trying to make. TNA seems to be restricting financially. Domestically, it is an interesting time right now to see what happens now. I’m just kicking back with my feet up and seeing how things develop but there’s no telling.

Would TNA even be an option?: It’s an option for two reasons. Your wrestling fans will understand me but your WWE fans will have no idea what I’m talking about. The first reason is when I started training in Duke “The Dumpster” Droese’s warehouse wrestling school, I was training to be a professional wrestler and I thought at that point of my career if I had the chance to wrestle in Puerto Rico that would be pretty damn cool. Then Norman Smiley took me under his wing and started polishing me up about Japanese wrestling and that was my goal. I wanted to wrestle in Japan that was my dream! As luck would have it, I was able to spend time in WWE. So for me, I’m a professional wrestler, I’m not a “WWE superstar”, that’s where I made my name and that’s where I had most of my fame and success but before that I wrestled in the territories of Puerto Rico in the independents, had my time in WWE, had my time in Japan, so if I were to go to TNA, TNA would be another chapter of my wrestling career like the guys back in the day that did territories. You did time here and time there and that was your career and that’s kind of how I see myself. I don’t see myself as Coca-Cola or Pepsi-Cola, I see myself as Cola, I’m not branded and I go wherever I want to go. The second reason why I would go is Samoa Joe. As far as the Japanese style, wanting to go and having that kind of match, Samoa Joe is a guy that I wanted to wrestle for ten years and I think Joe and I can do some epic, epic damage to each other.

TNA changing its public perspective: Wow, how much time do we have? It’s weird cause it’s difficult to give criticism without being labeled a “hater” or I’ve had people tell me: “You sound salty” or “Your criticizing WWE”, I give criticism where I see its due and I think TNA has made the mistake of focusing on older guys for the sake of nostalgia or name without spending enough time building younger stars and that’s the kind of stuff that WWE is dealing with now. When you don’t spend enough time grooming and developing younger stars then there tends to be a backlash. I think the problem is and I heard a lot of people say this and some of guys there say this but it kind of seems like WCW light and what WCW was like at the end and as far as the fans are concerned, they want something else. The best and most lucrative time for the business was during the “Monday Night Wars” where there were twelve million people a week tuning into wrestling. Where did those people go? They are out there somewhere. What are they watching now? They are not all watching WWE and they are not watching TNA. I think in order for TNA to be a viable option for WWE is to go in a totally different direction. I think that a guy like AJ Styles was pretty much the backbone of the company, he is TNA Wrestling for all intents and purposes, and he shouldn’t be upset. There is no reason for a guy like him to be upset, he should be well taken care of and happy and there shouldn’t be guys questioning if they are getting paid and that’s another big issue that I’ve been hearing about and it’s there finances . So if their talent pool isn’t happy and if they have guys that are grumbling because they are not being given an opportunity because of guys higher up the ladder that aren’t making way for those opportunities and for being allowed to make those opportunities for the younger guys then you tend to run into some trouble.

TNA or the WWE Performance Center, what’s makes more sense for a young wrestler: It’s what you want as a professional wrestler. How do you define a successful career? On a few occasions, I’ve been asked to do training seminars and I break the guys into three groups. I want one group that does professional wrestling as a hobby. You got a full time job, a couple kids and a wife and you wrestle on the weekends for fun, you get out to the school once a week for practice and professional wrestling is your softball league, those guys stand in one group. Those of you who are hoping to have fun for a while, maybe get to wrestler overseas for a bit but you’re not trying to become a “superstar” but you want to wrestle in Japan, Mexico, Europe and willing to make the sacrifice and go through the pro wrestling phase then go stand in this group. Then if your goal is to be a superstar, you want to be on TV, you want to be a famous wrestler, you want to be a “rich and famous” wrestler then WWE is the place to go, if that is what you want and if that’s your goal, then the performance center is the way to go. However, just because you go there, doesn’t mean you are going to make TV. You got over a hundred that are trying to compete for TV time, you have to come out with a gimmick that will get you on TV whereas TNA that pool is a lot shallower so you have a much better chance to make it to TV and apply your trade. If you’re coming out of college and you have the option to go to the NFL or the CFL, it’s kind of a no-brainer.

WWE being more appealing with Daniel Bryan and CM Punk on top: Sure! We often would joke that about wrestling for F.I.P. many years ago in Crystal River, Florida in front of thirty drunken Mexicans at a bar, I don’t know what the hell it was but guys wanted to wrestle Bryan back in the day, he was tremendous. I can’t tell you how I proud I am to see two of those guys who I admired back in there Ring of Honor days on top in WWE. Especially having that international background and that appreciation for pro wrestling that came from my school of thought to make it to the top in that company. Talk about going against the odds, they are everything that a WWE champion has never been. It thrills me and the thought of going back and working with Punk or working with Bryan or working with those guys is great I know there style and they know my style and I think we would complement each other well, its intriguing.

State of Pro Wrestling in Japan: The state of Pro Wrestling in Japan is that New Japan (Pro Wrestling) is the top dog. New Japan is doing great business and draws great houses everywhere. I remember talking to the office one day and I won’t say who made the statement but the statement was made that if Tanahashi left New Japan the response was “Big, big problem. Serious Problem.” He is that guy that sells the tickets and with Okada emergence as a top tier player, he has made that New Japan ticket hotter. Sadly NOAH Pro Wrestling is up against the ropes. They are not doing that great. Recently a bunch of guys from NOAH left to join All Japan (Pro Wrestling). I don’t believe NOAH has any television right now and when (Mitsuharu) Misawa passed away that dealt them a blow. All-Japan was on the rope as well and it looked like they were going to go under but the new owner (Japanese corporation Speed Partners) seems to have big pockets. Muta left to form his own company Wrestle-1 and All Japan is getting back into the game and from what I gather New Japan is actually helping them out a little bit.

Would WWE be better if TNA was excellent?: I think there is a different mindset in Japan from the mindset of how they do their business. I think the WWE mindset is to crush all and don’t give anyone breathing room. I think that’s how it comes across. The most prosperous time for pro wrestling is when there was competition during the “Monday Night Wars.” That’s when everyone was watching and that’s when it was hot when the NFL wanted to pay Vince (McMahon) to move Monday Night Raw because it was cutting into their viewership. That’s very significant. For the Americans that want to wrestle in Japan and if you’re a young guy coming up from the Dojo, you’re going to learn how to properly wrestle, pro wrestle and you’re going to be in amazing shape cause you have to go through the Dojo and I think there is a training video on YouTube of myself working out with the young guys. Try doing that hung over and trying to play it off. It’s a huge experience and if you look at New Japan, take a guy like “Machine Guy” Karl Anderson, he is one of the best talents you never heard of, Masahiro Chono won the G-1 Climax two years ago, the last time you saw that was with Rick Rude which was eleven or twelve years ago who is killing things over there and one of the best guys you probably never heard of. You asked me the question before if a wrestler should go to the WWE Performance Center or to TNA? If you had the option to go to Japan first was there, I would say go and later on if those options are there, definitely. The guys that were my wrestling heroes made their way in Japan like Eddie (Guererro), Dean (Malenko), Chris (Benoit), (Chris) Jericho, and (William) Regal spent their time in Japan and they would all tell you, that’s what made them better than they were.

I’ve been by him when he’s gone out for WrestleMania and some really big things,” Bella revealed. “He got really, really nervous and he started talking about how long we’ve been together. Jim Ross Q&A: Kurt Angle/WWE Return, His WWE Status, More Talk Of TNA

8

The following are highlights from some new Jim Ross website Q&A:

On working with Boyd Pierce and Mid-South attempting to go national: “Boyd was a funny guy who loved to make people laugh. A natural born showman. Mid South attempting to go national was our best hope of surviving in our economically depressed base area.”

On Kurt Angle ever returning to WWE: “Truly, never say never. Kurt in the WWE HOF makes sense….wrestling? Not so sold on that except perhaps a retirement match at WrestleMania.”

On working with TNA in the future: “No disrespect taken…Just not interested in working w/ any wrestling company at this time.”

On JR being rude to fans asking about his contract status: “I’d suggest I interact w/ fans as well as anyone in the business or at least I try. I certainly don’t feel that I’m better than any wrestling fan or anyone else. At the same time, my exact contractual status w/ any organization isn’t something I care to discuss. Bottom line, I’m no longer employed at WWE and look forward to the future engaging other entities. Will my existing work in WWE, WCW and Mud Soth continue to exist on WWE projects? I’d say most likely to that.”

Update On Kurt Angle’s Future, Hulk Hogan/WWE Return Rumors + Early WMXXX News! [>>]

Spoiler: Hulk Hogan’s TNA Future Revealed

31

TNA shot an angle during the live edition of Impact Wrestling on Thursday night that saw the now heel president of the company, Dixie Carter, give Hulk Hogan an ultimatum. Carter informed Hogan that he had one week to decide if he was with her or not. Obviously the one week is up in real-time, as next week’s Impact Wrestling was taped immediately after the live show in Little Rock, Arkansas on Thursday night.

During the main event segment of the show taped for next week’s Spike TV broadcast, Hogan “quit” the promotion, with Carter on her knees begging him to stay. According to reports, Thursday’s set of TNA tapings was the final contractually obligated televised appearance of Hogan, whose contract expires in October. While Hogan and TNA are reportedly still negotiating a new deal, apparently the angle was shot as a possible send-off for the legendary star.

As has been reported many times recently, TNA is in the middle of a major financial evaluation of all sides of the company, which has resulted in the departure of talents recently such as Ken Anderson and Mickie James, as well as the stalling of contract negotiations of AJ Styles. Also reported recently is the fact that Jeff Jarrett has been working in the TNA offices more lately. Jarrett was also backstage at the TNA television tapings on Thursday night. Whether or not this is TNA preparing for life after Hogan remains to be seen, however, the angle shot for next week’s television is certainly interesting considering everything that is going on right now.

We should have more information on the next few days.

Brodus Clay On Being Released By WWE In The Past, His Current Status & More

15

The following are highlights from a recent interview with WWE Superstar Brodus Clay:

So, when you started with the company [WWE], what were your goals back in Deep South and FCW?

It was all about taking baby steps. To be honest, I just felt I had been on an amazing journey to even get to be with WWE. All I wanted to do was move up the card. I didn’t get ahead of myself – you start in developmental, then you get on roster, then you wanna try to get on TV and then you hope that you can work in a good feud and so on. It’s all about small steps at that stage.

And in 2008 – when you were released – did you kind of write it off, was there part of you that had given up on working with WWE again?

Well don’t get me wrong, I had no delusions of grandeur, I left and went back to being a bodyguard. I mean I knew I’d wrestle again with but I just had to work hard it and try again to work for them. I didn’t give up even though it was a setback. By 2010 I was back with the company.

What are your memories of NXT? It looked like a fun show to work on?

Oh yeah, NXT was a lot of fun. It gave us all the chance to expand. We’d get there and they’d say “so what are you going to do?” and we’d be like “we don’t know!” So there was a lot of room to be creative. I mean even though were competing with one another, everyone was really supportive of one another. It was a great group to work in.

So, I’m sure you’ve been asked this many times but how did the Funkasaurus character come about?

Well, the nickname was something that was invented by my trainer, Rob. We kind of played around with it and then I think it was Bill De Mott who came up with ‘Planet Funk’ and it kind of spiralled from there. The American Dream, Dusty Rhodes, worked on my entrance with me and then we realised that I couldn’t dance! He just said “once you hear that crowd, you’ll know what to do”

First time you did that entrance was live on Raw – that had to be nerve-wracking?

Oh yeah. I mean I was definitely nervous. I knew that as soon as you do something like this it’s replayed and it’s all over the internet. And I hadn’t done it in front of more than a few of the guys really before so it was new and was so different.

Fastforward to today; you’re really over at the live shows, you have a ton of merchandise, you have a tag partner (Tensai) and you’re a fan favourite – so what’s the next step for your character/for you as a performer?

Well erm… I think you always dream of that world championship, or that one moment that you will always remember or that WrestleMania moment – something that you can kind of come back to again and again. I mean it’s great right now, I’m obviously tagging with Tensai, which is a real honour, so who knows where that will lead. Maybe something will happen for me in the singles roster.

Jim Ross/WWE Update: Problems With Vince McMahon, HHH Tried To Help & More

20

Several people within WWE believe Jim Ross will be back working for the company in time for next year’s WrestleMania XXX event. Additionally, many in the company feel JR will still be used for interviews on DVDs and other various projects.

One source noted that JR’s situation with WWE hadn’t been good since WrestleMania earlier this year, and that it was just a matter of time before something happened that would be the catalyst for WWE to officially pull the trigger on releasing him. Apparently the WWE 2K14 symposium was just that.

Triple H, who was JR’s boss while working with him in the developmental system, apparently knew that as far as Vince McMahon was concerned, it was only a matter of time before JR would receive his walking papers from the company. As a result, “The Game” tried to help JR as much as possible before the call was made.

Apparently there have always been issues between JR and Vince McMahon, as Ross has a history of speaking his mind to Vince when he feels a direction is wrong, while most people in WWE aren’t so quick to speak up when talking with McMahon.

Chris Masters Speaks On A WWE Return, Going To TNA, Working With John Cena & More

18

The following are highlights from a recent interview with former WWE Superstar Chris Masters:

On his favorite WWE storyline that he was involved in: “Working the program with Shawn Michaels just because he was like, my childhood hero. That was almost the equivalent of winning the world championship in my book.Obviously for the record books it would be nice to say you’re a former world champion but I’m just really glad I got to work him before he retired and I was able to break into that generation before a lot of those guys essentially either went on to TNA or some retired, it was a very different landscape.”

On working with John Cena: “The kind of ironic part of the whole story is that we started training wrestling the same day together, same exact day, I was 16 at the time. So, you know, we go all the way back to the very beginning with each other. Ultimately, what happened was that two months into my training I fractured my ankle, had surgery and took a couple of years off because I was so young and Cena kept with it and within that time went on to WWE first and I came back to UPW and two years later I got signed, so you know, I was a couple of years behind him. As far as feuding with him, it was always nice to go out there with someone that the people are so emotionally invested in because it makes your job that much easier. They love Cena, so to work a guy on top of the card there’s no better payday than that really so you can’t complain from that aspect… On a personal level, we have never meshed. Our personalities are just very different. For whatever reason that is, it’s not a love or hate thing, it’s just two very different type of people.”

On a possible WWE Return: “You know, you can’t rule anything out of course, but I mean the problem with WWE right now for me is that it seems there’s no real room for opportunity. There’s just so many guys that they have and I haven’t watched in a while but from what I’ve heard they combined raw and Smackdown and if you want to just be there just treading water then yeah, but I would rather go there with the certainty that I was actually going to do something and be vital to the program. It just depends on the opportunity that’s there, and it doesn’t seem like there is to me. What do they have there like 100 guys in developmental and it just seems like right now I’m where I’m supposed to be and doing what I’m supposed to do but if the opportunity presents itself I’m not necessarily going to say no but there’s going to be some things to consider obviously. Even before my release I was always thinking in the back of my mind about the potential of quitting and either calling TNA or just reevaluating things because I knew how my work had come along but also at the same time they were at a point in the company where they needed babyfaces and they still weren’t using me so I was just like, if they aren’t going to use me at this point when are they going to use me? It still didn’t seem rational because it’s like, I’m not going to quit because this is the place I’ve always wanted to work, this is my dream, so that kind of overshadowed any thought of quitting but it did cross my mind at the time so that’s kind of where I stand with it now. I’m still just 30 years old so it gives me some time on my side obviously but I really can’t say for sure.”

On the possibility of going to TNA: “I keep an open mind about any wrestling company because it’s my ultimate passion, there’s really nothing else. If I had to fill out a resume, under qualifications I’d put what, standing vertical suplex and an unbreakable full nelson? I don’t know where that’s going to benefit me in society but one thing that I have been exploring while living in L.A. is different movie projects because coming out of our line of work it seems like a natural fit.”

Tammy Sytch Talks Today’s WWE Divas, WWE HOF, Getting Arrested & More

5

The following are highlights from a recent interview with Tammy “Sunny” Sytch.

On Being Approached by WWE for the Hall of Fame: “When I got the phone call I had no idea what was going on. I was packing for a vacation in Mexico. It was a Monday night at 9:30 and Johnny Ace called; I thought it was really odd that Johnny would call me during the show. About 15 minutes into the call, he asked me to turn on Raw; at the time, they were announcing Shawn’s induction into the Hall of Fame. He then told me that he was talking to Vince and they wanted me to be the second inductee. I cried for about 3 minutes. It was January 10, 2011 that I was told I was going to be inducted.”

On keeping it a secret: “They made me wait 2 months and told me I wasn’t allowed to tell anybody. I can’t keep secrets as it is. Everything that company does is a test, and I think they did it on purpose. I was the second person that they told, and I was the second to last to be announced.”

On being ahead of her time: “Timing is everything. When I got there, there was no platform for girls at all: It was Miss Elizabeth standing there silent, or Sherri Martel and Alundra Blaze wrestling. I had to show the company that you can put all of this responsibility on a girl. Back in 1996 I was the first person other than Hulk Hogan that was doing mainstream interviews as a wrestler. Before me, Hogan was the only person that made it to Hollywood gossip and news shows. Would I have loved to do more? Sure, but we didn’t have the platform at that time.”

On coming in the business with Chris Candido: “I was hired first. They hired me as Tamara Murphy doing the Live Event News. Between WWE and Smokey Mountain I had a 7 day a week job. Five months into it they pulled Chris and I into a meeting and they offered him a job, and turned my broadcasting contract into a regular talent contract and the rest is history. It was easy for us to start together on the road; we were both 21, and being together and starting out that young, it made it so much easier. Chris had so much passion for the business. He started wrestling at 9 years old; that’s passion.”

On who broke her into the business: “Believe it or not, my first paying job in the wrestling business was for Bill Apter at Pro Wrestling Illustrated. I was 17 years old and just out of high school, and I was going with Chris to his shows and taking pictures and videos of his matches for his own use. I don’t know how, but Bill Apter got hold of my pictures one day and he loved the way I shot. I would use my own money to travel to the shows and develop my pictures, and Bill would pay me $10 a shot. But at least I got the credit for it and it got me started (in the business). Bill loved all of us eager young photographers.”

On being arrested for fighting a man: “Tell me you love me, put a ring on my finger, and then go and cheat on me and I’m going to kick your ass. (It’s unfair) to call me psycho, any woman would have done that. 20 days after you get engaged and you find out he’s been cheating the whole time? Any woman would have done that. Guys are pigs, I could go on and on an on.”

On DDP Yoga: “All he did in WCW back in 2001 was ramble about yoga. Back when I was in WCW, the whole locker room used to make fun of him. Before the shows he would be out at ringside with his yoga mat doing his yoga every single night. The boys used to make fun of him and rip him to shreds, and now he’s turned it into an empire; it’s funny.”

On what is missing from today’s crop of Divas: “With the exception of Nattie Neidhart, heart and passion for the business is missing. Nattie is in the business because she loves the business, not because she’s using it as a stepping stone for something else. The others, look what happens when their contract expires: They look for work in TV. In the Divas search, they didn’t even know who Kamala was. Passion and heart is missing, even from a lot of the guys. (There are very few guys with passion) Chris (Candido) had passion, CM Punk has passion, and Daniel Bryan has it too.

Jim Ross Q&A: Will He Sign With TNA?, His WWE Contract Status, Hogan/WWE Return

The following are highlights from some new Jim Ross Q&A on his official website:

On if he has interest in joining TNA: “No interest whatsoever at this time. Moving on to other things.”

On if wrestlers should be fined for giving/receiving chair-shots to the head: “Yes they must be protected from themselves. Chair shots to the head are ignorant.”

On if he has a legends contract with WWE now: “Why is this matter relevant or any of your business? No offense…”

On if Hulk Hogan could end up back in WWE once his TNA contract expires: “Don’t know….don’t care as it a non issue to me. Some day Hogan making a WWE appearance won’t surprise me.”

Backstage Update On AJ Styles’ Future, WWE Has Little Interest In Him

32

As we have reported in the past, AJ Styles’ current, short-term deal with TNA is set to expire in December. According to the latest reports, it appears highly unlikely that “The Phenomenal One” will end up in WWE after his short-term TNA deal expires. According to one source, there appears to be very little interest from the WWE side in signing the 36-year-old former TNA World Champion.

One person in-the-know in WWE went as far as saying there is “far less interest in AJ from the WWE side than a normal, rational person would think.”

As many saw on last week’s Impact Wrestling, Styles has entered into a new storyline with the now storyline heel president of TNA, Dixie Carter, where he claims to be currently working without a contract. As noted, that is untrue, as Styles re-signed the aforementioned short-term deal with TNA which gets them through December. Where Styles will end up by the time that deal expires remains to be seen.
