  • Mick Foley Blogs About His WWE Contract Status

    0

WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley recently posted the following blog on his official Facebook page:

    A GOOD TALK IN CONNECTICUT

Yes, it looks like I will be sticking around a while. It’s probably foolish for me to even think about leaving WWE, especially knowing that whether I’m officially with them or not, they are always going to be part of me. I tried, really tried to distance myself from WWE a couple of times – at one point, I didn’t do anything at all with them gor over a year and a half (October 2001 – May 2003) and during all that time, in the hearts and minds of fans, I was still a WWE guy. Well, with the exception of one excited kid in New Hampshire who yelled out, “you’re the guy from Robot Wars” and a stunned UK memorabilia collector, who was overjoyed to meet his favorite novelist.

My official contract with WWE runs out soon, but we have mutually agreed to continue to work together on a case-by-case handshake deal – the same way I did some of my best work (remember the 2004 Randy Orton program) with WWE in the past. The only minor difference (other than not getting a weekly check…ouch) is that I will work prospective WWE dates and projects around my schedule, instead of working my schedule around prospective dates. With the success of my live shows (thanks everyone) I needed more flexability in my schedule. But WWE has shown some interest in partnering with me on these live shows in the future, and a WWE produced, first-class, multi-media one-man Mick Foley show has always been my long-term goal. As WWE showed with the roll-out of the new network, when they go into something, they go ALL in – and I’m crossing my fingers, hoping they’ll go ALL in on a fall 2014 15th anniversery “HAVE A NICE DAY” production – even if it’s just for a limited run.

Besides, the second issue of my WWE comic just came out, and Wrestlemania is just around the corner. My kids LOVE WWE, and the prospect of their being part of Mania, without Dad being part of WWE was a downer. They have great seats for the big show – Santa Dad sprung for the good seats (no more watching the show on a TV monitor in a crowded “Friends and Family” suite, 100 yards from the action, overlooking a parking lot for my gang) Besides, do you have any idea how expensive hotel rooms are in New Orleans on Mania weekend? Put my room on Uncle Vinnie’s tab, please.

  • Gunner Speaks On AJ Styles & Jeff Jarrett Leaving TNA, Hulk Hogan, Dixie Carter

    5

The following are highlights of a recent interview with TNA star Gunner:

On having a tryout in front of Hulk Hogan: “I was aware that I was being watched. When I got that dark match, D-Lo said Dixie’s watching, & Hulk’s watching. Here is your opportunity so don’t go out there and screw it up. I’ve always worked well under pressure and I think being in The Marine Corps helps you in dealing with a lot of pressure. It was my opportunity and I was either going to go out there and shine or I was going to burn. Hulk gave me a lot of compliments, not only for my dark match, but throughout the time he was there. He seemed to enjoy a lot of my character, so that meant a lot.

On TNA being on the road versus the Impact Zone: “There are pros & cons to both. Being on the road was great because you get to see different towns and different wrestling fans. The Impact Zone has the same people there usually every week or every month, which is not bad, but then again it’s really nice to get in front of say like, a southern crowd like we will in Alabama for Genesis. It’ll obviously be a hot crowd. But it’s good to be back in the Impact Zone. We have a home base and we know the crowd will be pretty lively.

On AJ Styles leaving TNA: “Superstars leave promotions all the time. It doesn’t mean he (AJ) won’t be back. He may have some things going on that he wants to take care of first. All it is, is giving somebody like me the open door to be the new poster child for the company.

On the state of TNA: “I honestly believe that all is well. It seems that theres’ things going on in WWE that the internet doesn’t hit on. It seems that because we are a younger company, I feel like we are the ones that get hit on so much. I don’t think personally anything is wrong with the company. We’re having more live events in 2014 than we did in 2013. We’re doing the UK tour which is a very huge tour for us plus the new TV deal we just signed in the UK and we’re still with Spike TV, so I don’t think anything’s wrong with the company. I honestly don’t see Impact going anywhere.

On TNA pushing but not committing to young stars: “I understand what you’re talking about and it already happened to me because in 2011 I was in the bound for glory series and I was hot being a singles guy, then I sat home for 8 months, and it wasn’t anything I did wrong, it was just a revamping of the character. There could be things going on behind the scenes that I don’t know about perhaps like somebody not getting along. It is known and it has been said, and Dixie has had conversations with us, and the new talent relations guy said 2014 is the year for the young guys to step up.”

On Jeff Jarrett leaving TNA: “That was kind of out of left field with a lot of us. On a personal level, Jeff helped me a lot also. He was always there for me to ask questions about promos or anything and as far as that, he’s a guy I consider a friend. And on a professional level, I don’t know why he left. Jeff Jarrett is a smart man. He’s a smart business man when it comes to wrestling. He’s been around it his whole life. I wish him luck and hope I get to work with him again someday because he’s always been there for me.”

On how hands-on Dixie Carter is with TNA creative: “When it comes to writing storylines, she doesn’t have any say so in that. She kind of lets the professionals do that. I don’t get to sit in on production meetings so I don’t know what goes on with that stuff. She does keep an eye on everybody and she does watch the show live when we do it. She’s right in front of the monitor in the back. She has input and it is valuable at times because she’s the owner of the company and you definitely want to hear what she has to say.”

  • Matt Striker Speaks On Hulk Hogan/Metallica Rumor, Relationship With Edge

    4

The following are highlights from a recent Journey Of A Frontman interview with former WWE talent Matt Striker:

On if he’ll give more time to his music career now that he’s done with WWE: “Yeah. The thing about music with me though is that I have to be inspired. I need a muse. I have to have a desire to sit down behind a drum kit or pick up the guitar or do anything, as far as making music goes. When inspiration hits, now that I give it more time, of course I would expect it to be something that I could pay a little more time to.”

On the Lemmy documentary and fans of Motorhead in WWE: “No. I’ve seen the Motorhead one, but I haven’t seen the one that was focused on Lemmy himself. My exposure to Motorhead came from my Aunt Sheri. I always dug just how driving they were. And I always chose Motorhead over AC/DC. That was pretty much how that worked for me. Growing up, you either dug Motorhead or you dug AC/DC. But when I got to WWE, it turns out that a few people that I really looked up to were big Motorhead fans. William Regal, Triple H, guys like that. So I got to meet Lemmy once backstage at a WWE event. He and Hunter were just talking in a hallway and all the wrestlers were walking past Lemmy and they had no idea who he was. It broke my damn heart. So I remember interrupting their conversation and I was a little scared that I was gonna offend Hunter, but at the same time, he knew that I was a fan. I said to Lemmy, “Hey man, I just wanna let you know, it’s really f’ing cool to meet you!” And Lemmy chuckled, we shook hands, and I just kept walking. And that was a very cool thing for me. I don’t think anyone else knew who the damn guy was! And they should all be put out to pasture for that.”

On the way Lemmy would be treated by those in WWE: “Then you’d watch everyone go into ass kissing mode because they would want to gain favor with Triple H. They’d say, “Oh man! Great to meet you! I really like uh…Ace of Spades!” They would just throw out whatever commercial Motorhead song they thought they knew. I just thought it was cool that Triple H saw the fanboy in me and almost thought it was cool how sheepishly I approached Lemmy to just shake the guy’s hand. And I mean it’s just so cool. That’s a musical icon. That’s a great treasure of the world, Lemmy should be.”

On musicians he’s met backstage in WWE during the RAW guest host era: “I got to meet the guys from Alter Bridge. They were hanging out with Edge and that was pretty cool. I’ve met George Thorogood through CM Punk. That was really neat. I think there’s a Chicago connection there. Ozzy Osbourne, Zakk Wylde, got to meet them backstage at RAW. I dug that WWE, for a while, was using really cool musical guests, not just for Wrestlemania. So I would really dig when those people would come around because being a musician, I would watch their soundchecks. And I would just watch how they would finger a chord or how a drummer would hit a particular note somewhere. So I always really, really liked that sort of stuff. I also got to chill with Snoop Dogg in his personal dressing room, but I won’t get into much more! (laughs) But wink, wink, wink!”

On his relationship with Adam “Edge” Copeland: “Adam’s got a unique musical taste. As part of our unique friendship, we don’t really talk about wrestling, but we do talk about other things. And music is definitely on that list. He’s a big Pearl Jam guy too. And he’s a big Foo Fighters guy, that’s his band all day every day.”

On wrestlers in WWE who have strong music tastes: “That’s a great question. There’s a lot of guys that I connected with on different levels of music. I remember when I first got to WWE, I wasn’t well-received. I was the new kid in school. And one of our first European tours, we all travel on a bus. Good guys travel on a luxury bus, bad guys travel on a luxury bus. I was on bad guys’ bus. And I remember Chavo Guerrero and Mark Henry were in the back and they had their phones, they were listening to music. They were listening to a lot of good seventies and early eighties disco music and house music. So I opened up a conversation with them about that. So guys like Chavo and Mark Henry were into that style. Teddy Long used to be a DJ on the air and I used to travel with him. Man, we would talk about soul music. I mean just some real good stuff such as Teddy Pendergrass, The Main Ingredient, The Platters. Guys like Big Daddy V would put that stuff on in the locker room and most of the young, white wrestlers would leave! (laughs) It would just be me, Mark Henry, Teddy Long, and Big Daddy V tappin’ our toes to some cool Rare Earth and stuff like that. William Regal is a big Motorhead fan, as well as a big Smiths and Morrissey fan. He and I talked about that a lot. We had a little bit of a side wager, how many different Smiths or Morrissey songs could I work into commentary for a William Regal match? I think I hit about sixteen of them and tried to make them all make sense, while not just saying names of albums or songs.”

“Kane, I know he likes Pink Floyd. Sometimes you’ll hear Delicate Sound of Thunder coming from his private, little locker room. Vince McMahon is a big AC/DC guy, very muchso. CM Punk is very, very into a lot of alternative music, bands like Minor Threat and those other hardcore bands. He doesn’t go far without his headphones on. He really identifies with that culture. I believe he brings Lars from Rancid backstage. He’s a really, really cool, down to earth dude. Christian listens to Judy Garland, Barbara Streisand, Justin Bieber, and Celine Dion. That’s the truth. Jericho and I always got along really well and again, it wasn’t about wrestling, it was about music. Jericho is a music trivia machine guy. He’s buddies with Mike Portnoy whose from Long Beach, New York, two towns over from me. He’s buddies with Eddie Trunk, and being a Long Island kid, Eddie Trunk’s voice is a staple. Out here on Long Island rock and roll radio and stuff like that, And Jericho likes Rush a lot. And he’s a big Beatles guy too. And not just I Wanna Hold Your Hand and Here Comes The Sun, side two of Abbey Road and Let It Be and things like that. That’s what Jericho and I really talked about. He’s also a hair metal guy. Saxon and Warrant and bands like that.”

On Chris Jericho’s band “Fozzy”: “I have heard a couple of Fozzy songs. I had just never really gone out and pursued their catalog. I find that a lot of their stuff with Chris’s fronting reminds me of early Maiden or early Judas Priest and stuff like that. I admire Chris for having the courage and the talent to go out there and forge a career outside of wrestling. Chris Jericho’s a talented guy, musically. And also with his podcast and his web show. Pretty much everything Chris Jericho does is successful. That’s a testament to Chris’s talent.”

On cracking Vince McMahon up on commentary: “Oh, of course! It’s funny, when I was on commentary once, I don’t remember how the segue came up, but I started to break into my rendition of Stand Back live on RAW. And Vince came in my ear over the headset and you can just hear him laughing for a good thirty seconds and then said, “Knock that shit off!” (laughs) I would get away with the references no matter what because half the time, no one knew what I was talking about. There’s no way Vince McMahon or the executive producer of the television product in the truck was able to pick up on a reference I made. I used to go out there and make these independent hip hop references. I was very into guys like Slug, whose apart of Atmosphere or Brother Ali. And I would quote lyrics fully on the air on any show and then the feedback on the internet would be great. While Vince is catering to the nine year old kid, he forgets that there’s still a large population of people twelve and up that watch our product as well. You need to engage them as well. I was able to get away with a lot of stuff because I would cleverly veil my references.”

On the Hulk Hogan/Metallica rumor: “I know he used to play bass in a bar as a young man. If that’s the case, then I auditioned for Metallica too. Maybe he did audition for Metallica. But I’m sure Lars would remember Hulk Hogan coming in to play bass. (laughs).”

    10

John Cena appeared on HLN’s “Showbiz Tonight” cable show on Wednesday night and spoke about his character’s “cool factor” – and why he doesn’t mind that a lot of adult male WWE fans don’t like him.

“A lot of times you don’t put into perspective how many people really take what you do as an impression on their daily lives. I have a great grasp on that. I enjoy a youthful audience and I truly cater to them. Rather than the older demographic that really doesn’t think I’m as cool. It doesn’t score me cool points and I lose a bit of street cred, but I get parents coming up to me all the time saying, ‘Hey, keep doing what you’re doing because my kid loves you.'”

Cena also spoke about the ongoing celebrity scandals involving Kanye West and Justin Beiber and promoted his “10 Weeks BodyChange” fitness and diet program.

  • NEWS: Jim Ross BACK With WWE + Daniel Bryan OUT For HOW Long Due To Injury?
  • Bully Ray Interview: The State Of TNA, Dixie-Magnus, WWE Network & More

    6

Former TNA World Champion Bully Ray joined Doug Mortman and Dave Lagreca on Busted Open.. You can hear Busted Open on SiriusXM 92 and on the SiriusXM app. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Being the “glue” that has been holding TNA together: “Well I appreciate you guys thinking that I’m the glue that holds the company together. That’s always nice to hear. Listen, I go out there–you guys know this damn well–whether you love me, whether you hate me, you gotta respect me just a little bit, cause every night I go out there to steal the show. And give the people exactly what they pay to see.  And they pay to hate me. And that’s what they get.”

Where his new, more mysterious Bully is heading coming out of Aces and Eights: “In wrestling, as you guys know, and in sports, in wrestling, in entertainment; you always have to evolve. So I’m giving the people the next level, the next chapter, the next evolution of Bully Ray. Some people might like it, some people might hate it. I really don’t care what they think as long as they tune in. And that’s all that matters.”

How he feels about the new Dixie Carter/Magnus regime: “Listen. In business there is always going to be changes going on. You guys experience change there; working at Sirius XM; all the time. Whether it’s McDonalds, or whether it’s in a hospital or whether it’s an auto body shop, whether it’s pro wrestling. There’s always going to be changes. Changes in talent, changes in personnel, changes in management, changes in direction, changes in theory on how the business should be run. So you always try to evolve. You always try to move forward and see what the next thing  is that is going to hit. So you know wrestling is no different than any other business. You keep evolving, you keep changing. So we’ll see what happens with this. Everybody wants to see TNA succeed. Everybody likes to sit back and whether it’s bash TNA or bash the WWE; people will sit there and bash. They don’t do anybody any good. Everybody is entitled to their opinion. You might not like something and that’s cool. But to sit back there and bash a company for no fricking good reason when all of the wrestlers are trying to go out there every single week and do their absolute best. And all of the creative members are trying to do their absolute best in the best interest of the fans. Sometimes things don’t always go the right way. Sometimes they go really great. You kind of gotta roll with the punches.”

His turn at Lockdown in 2013 in San Antonio: “OH! Well the first thing I got to say is this: whoever thought or came up with the delusion that those were plants in the audience; I would love to meet that person face to face and mafia kick them in their fricking jaw. That’s first of all. Then I’ll wish them a Happy New Year. That is the kind of hatred; that is the kind of emotional response that I strive on. That’s the kind of emotional response that me and Devon (Dudley) used to get on a nightly basis in ECW. I was so proud of the response at Lockdown. I was so proud that I was able to pull off what I pulled off. I was proud of the fact of being the champion. I was proud of the fact of being able to pull the wool over the eyes of all of the smart wrestling fans all over the world. And people were pissed off. And that’s what’s going to make me memorable; things like that. The last time you saw an incident like that was in Daytona Beach, Florida when Hulk Hogan joined the nWo. And to be able to do it to him and his daughter (Brooke) and shove it up both of their asses at the same time? That was golden.”

Having a crazy 2013: “No doubt. World Titles; women; whisky. Hanging out with Motley Crue in Vegas. Going crazy. My goal for 2014 is this: I want to get my World Title back. I want to piss off even more people and I want to see how many Knockouts I can get through in the locker room.”

Facing Ken Anderson at Genesis this Thursday on Spike TV: “Well you got to dig the fact that TNA does try to give away quality Pay Per View, main event matches on free TV. I think that’s where you gotta really look at TNA–you gotta tip the hat to them and say Hey! You know they’re trying. They’re not trying to hang us out for 39.95 every single month for a PPV. They are doing some of the old school things. Some of the things to keep wrestling fans happy and interested. And Genesis is going to be a very interesting PPV. Just the fact alone that you got me and Anderson; the feud that has been going on for months and months. And whether you like it or hate it, me and Anderson always deliver in that ring. You know if I’m out there, you gotta keep that channel on. You know if I’m out there, something is going to happen. You know if I’m out there, I’m gonna say something or I’m gonna do something that’s going to be totally unexpected. And at Genesis I plan on doing the same thing. And it started out with House of Hardcore a couple of months ago, followed up at Old School in Poughkeepsie, got Genesis right around the corner. If Bully Ray is out there, expect the unexpected.”

His thoughts on the new WWE Network: “I think it’s great for wrestling fans. As a wrestling fan and personally I am a wrestling fan. There are a lot of things that I would like to see. If I know that I can go to the WWE Network and just order something up and check out a match from back in the day that I want to see; that’s awesome. So I think it’s good for all of wrestling. It keeps wrestling out there. It keeps wrestling in the public’s eye. And now fans have access to whatever they want to see. It’s all about entertainment, guys. KISS goes up there every night; plays the same songs; Gene spits the same blood; they do the same pyro and people pay to see them. Because people love KISS. People love rock and roll; drinking whiskey; naked girls and partying. And that’s the same reason why people will always love pro wrestling. “

Daniel Bryan & Bray Wyatt Kick Off Raw vs The USO'S - YES!
Daniel Bryan & Bray Wyatt Kick Off Raw vs The USO’S – YES!

The Usos vs. Bray Wyatt & Daniel Bryan (Part 1) Raw starts off with the match advertised last week of Daniel Bryan and Bray Wyatt. The USO’s were in the ring at the start of Raw ready for the match. The lights blacked out for the Wyatts entrance, and came back on 30 seconds later to reveal Daniel Bryan and The Wyatts already in the ring. I liked the quick entrance. The match was good with Daniel Bryan in a more aggressive style. Luke Harper and Derek Rowan, interfered just before The USO’s were about to get airborne on Daniel Bryan and Bray Wyatt.  This prompted another DQ on the Wyatts in their second week in a row with Daniel Bryan. Daniel Bryan drops to his knees to receive a Sister Abigail from Bray Wyatt. As I said for the last two weeks, I’m okay with this story in it’s context, provided it doesn’t go 16 weeks to WrestleMania. YES!

Damien Sandow holding his own against John Cena - YES!
Damien Sandow holding his own against John Cena – YES!

Damien Sandow vs. John Cena I was fortunate to be in the crowd at Raw in Orlando, FL the night after The Hell-In-A-Cell Pay-Per-View. It was on that night that Damien Sandow cashed in his Money-In-The-Bank briefcase on John Cena. Although he didn’t win the match then, it was a great competitive match with Cena, and this episode of Raw was no different. There is a great chemistry between Sandow and Cena, and proof that Sandow should have a much more elevated status in WWE. All the things about Damien Sandow I enjoy are stripped away, no more robe, no more witty promos, he’s seemingly just an angry body. Where’s the man that would sign autographs with a quill pen? Why do we get “Sandow-Gimmick-Light”? I question this especially, because when he is called upon he delivers.  Match was great.  Don’t throw away Sandow after this. YES!

Kane & Brad Maddox, No Triple H or Stephanie. Kane and Brad get into it backstage, and Mr Maddox comes up with a Bray Wyatt & Daniel Bryan vs The Uso’s rematch in a steel cage for the main event. With Kane adding that he will personally chain the cage door shut. I thought this would spell disaster for Daniel Bryan, with some ulterior motive for his former Co-Tag Team Champion.

I did like the fact that Triple H and Stephanie were not on the show this week. Although they seem to back Orton, promoting him as the face Of WWE, they haven’t been targeting John Cena, like they did Bryan, with beat-downs and impossible handi-cap matches.  YES!

Left - Intense Big Show to confront Brock Lesnar 1/6 YES! Right - Jolly Big Show eventually Beating Up Zed NO!
Left – Intense Big Show to confront Brock Lesnar 1/6 YES! Right – Jolly Big Show eventually Beating Up Zed NO!

On an unrelated note, is Kane injured? Kane is one of the longest tenured Superstars on the roster, I know he has been working several holiday house show matches, however I don’t recall him having a TV match since that aforementioned Orlando Raw I was at where, on that show he shed his mask, this was after returning from filming a See No Evil sequel. It looked like he had a noticeable limp coming down the aisle way.

Big Show vs. Jack Swagger I don’t like smiling big show. I liked hoodie and skull cap wearing, intense Big Show from last week. I want all business Big Show. I want a focused Big Show that is going to seriously take on Brock Lesnar. Big show almost has John Cena-itus. Big Show should learn from his mistakes. Smiling Big Show ended 3-4 Raws this fall, then lost the Big One. Big show can smile his way to another loss at the Royal Rumble. I like Zeb Colter,  but for some reason I DON’T want to see him hurt. I like Paul Heyman, but I DO want to see him get hurt. NO!

Moments before The New Age Outlaws, pull back their hands and walk out on CM Punk - NO!
Moments before The New Age Outlaws, pull back their hands and walk out on CM Punk – NO!

CM Punk & The New Age Outlaws vs. The Shield I’m hoping after The Royal Rumble, CM Punk will move away from The Shield. I love Roman Reigns but If the Shield were to break up, I don’t think he should be put against CM Punk one on one, yet. I like the idea of him building up his singles resume, perhaps with a Big E, Dolph Ziggler, a returning Jericho, maybe even Daniel Bryan, before we see CM Punk vs Roman Reigns in a big time match. I love the New Age Outlaws, and I don’t want to boo them. I haven’t checked out the Smackdown Spoilers (They are scheduled to take on Cody Rhodes and Golddust) so I’m curious to see if they are “bad guys” now.  They both appear to be in great shape, and would love to see them, hang around till WrestleMania, but not at heels. Besides, book him however you wish, but at WrestleMania XXX they will no doubt be faces one way or another.   NO!

Meaningless win for AJ. Waste of talent - NO!
Meaningless win for AJ. Waste of talent – NO!

The Funkadactyls vs. AJ Lee & Tamina Snuka Throw-a-way match, AJ being underutilized. AJ hasn’t had many title defenses, the belt isn’t as special, not because of the person, because of the booking. She taps out and pins people left and right, then a silly beat down afterwords. If you’re going to give her a clean win, why bother, having the faces beat her down after the fact, they lost. This is why there is a huge drop off in star power in WWE, because you have someone like an AJ Lee who can cut a dynamite promo, you can cultivate that, make people want to see her, and let her flourish! Instead of losing her in the shuffle of 20 Total Diva® tag matches. NO!

WWE Hall Of Fame 2014 Inductee The Ultimate Warrior will Headline The 2014 Hall Of Fame. Ironic I watched a DVD about how he was horrible person to work with, held up Vince McMahon for money at SummerSlam 1991, and “self destructed” But as the saying goes Money Talks, and there is a lot of people who remember the guy you see below and could care less about what was hapening behind the curtain. So for that (and because our Webmaster is a huge fan of the man from Parts Unknown) we say YES!
