Rapper Wale Talks To MTV About His Scuffle In The Audience At Monday’s RAW

5

As previously reported, rapper Wale was involved in a physical altercation in the crowd at this past Monday’s WrestleMania XXX “go-home” edition of WWE RAW, which took place in the rapper’s hometown of Washington, D.C.

Following the incident, Wale spoke to MTV to explain the story behind the scuffle. It was just a dude that was like, ‘I’mma kick your ass. I better not see you here,'” the rapper told MTV News on Tuesday.

“I was like, ‘Yo, is this you?’ And one thing lead to another, and I just kind of mushed him a little bit,” said Wale. “Honestly, if there wasn’t kids right there, it would have went a little bit differently, but I just wanted to be conscious of them. It’s not to say it was the right decision. But in the moment, you know.” “People get it misconstrued,” he went on. “Like, ‘Oh, you’re so butt-hurt.’ It’s not even that. I come from a place where when we was at the lunch table and n—as was jonesing on each other, I’ll respond. I’m gonna have something better, too. And now we’ve come to a place where, if you respond, you’re a bitch. Somebody could say ‘F— you’ 100 times, if I say ‘f— you’ back, then I’m a bitch. And people be like, ‘You’re famous, you shouldn’t care.’ ”

Wale concluded, “I care what people say because I try to be a man of the people. I just don’t understand, [in] society, why we champion people like that in this day and age. I remember when people used to admire real people that stand behind their words or are stand-up men. I come from that. I had to address him as such. It wasn’t nothing really serious.”

  • Jim Ross Speaks On HHH vs. Bryan, WrestleMania XXX, Ross Report Podcast, More

    2

The following are highlights of a Best Of New Orleans interview with Jim Ross:

On what we can expect at his one-man shows on Thursday: “I’ll do a succinct open, to get everybody up to speed on my career, and then we go right into the questions-and-answers. Fans can ask any question they choose. No topic is off limits — I call it a no-holds-barred Q&A — and the questions lead to stories. I’m not a stand-up comedian, but a lot of the stories are organically humorous, so there will be a lot of laughs. The questions make every show different, and I think that’s better than a long monologue. Each show has its own personality, its own tone, tenor and uniqueness. I don’t work off a teleprompter or script. I’m still a wrestling fan, been one my entire life, so I like spontaneity and improvisation.”

“I think my story is motivational in spirit for some. I was raised as an only child on a 160-acre farm in East Oklahoma, not a child of privilege by any stretch of the imagination. A guy from Oklahoma, with a Southern accent, who had three Bell’s Palsy attacks that left me with paralysis around my mouth — that guy isn’t supposed to be successful, especially on television.”

“So we have comedy, history lessons, some motivation. And the audience is just as involved as I am, asking questions and stimulating banter. It’s gonna be a fun night. For the VIP ticket holders, after the show I’ll do a meet & greet and talk to them one on one. And you know I’m gonna bring down all the barbecue sauces, the mustard, ketchup, jerky, so we’ll have those on hand as well.”

On his pick for the sleeper match at WrestleMania XXX: “Because of what’s at stake and the two guys in it, I think the Triple H/Daniel Bryan match could very well be the show-stealer on that card. I expect that match to go on early, so the audience is going to be fresher, full of “P & V.” Then the fact that there’s something definitive at stake as relates to the winner. [The winner gets a title shot later that night.] You have a destination, you have a reason, you have two highly talented guys that have so much professional pride. I think that Triple H/Bryan match is one that will tell a very compelling story. It’s not the beginning or ending chapter; another chapter will be written later in the night. But it’s got a chance to be a great match.”

On his biggest learning curve while doing his podcast: “What I’ve learned is to have a basic outline of things that you want to address, but don’t work from a script. Leave yourself the flexibility to deviate from your GPS — you’re still gonna get to the destination. You want the podcast to be entertaining and informative, but don’t overscript; that takes the spontaneity out of it. It’s the same as my live shows. It’s better being more conversational, more one-on-one and personal. Podcasting has been a real fun venture. I’m enjoying it, it’s a good way to stay connected to the business.”

“When I left WWE in September 2013, I’d been there a little over 20 years, and in the business 40. I’m 62, I thought maybe I’ll slow down a little bit — but I enjoy being busy, being active, being around people.”

“The one-man shows, the podcasts, the project for Fox, the family brand of food products — it keeps me out of mischief.”

New “Paul Heyman Guy” To Be Announced Soon, CM Punk’s WWE Future

    63

Paul Heyman spoke to ThisIsInfamous.com this week to promote WrestleMania 30. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

A New Paul Heyman Guy Coming Soon: “We’re going to broadcast his identity and we’re going to publicize and promote it and present it and market it and make as big a splash as humanly possible regarding this new Paul Heyman guy.”

His CM Punk Promo On RAW From Chicago: “My task at hand is to elicit the response from the viewer that they find the Brock Lesnar versus Undertaker match compelling enough to purchase the pay-per-view or get involved with WWE Network to see the match. So when I went out in Chicago, I knew my responsibility was to sell you on Brock Lesnar vs The Undertaker any way that I had to, which included sitting there for the first ten minutes and discussing the 800-pound elephant in the room, which is why C.M. Punk wasn’t appearing in his hometown.”

“As a performer, to get the opportunity to come out in Chicago to CM Punk’s music and to sit down Punk-style in the ring, and tell the true intimate story of this Paul Heyman guy, while I’m doing my job promoting Brock versus Undertaker is the greatest professional high you can offer me.”

If CM Punk Will Ever Return: “You know, there were only three people in the room that night, and that was C.M. Punk, Vince McMahon, and Triple H, and none of the three have talked about it. So whether C.M. Punk will ever or won’t ever appear in WWE again is truly only known by the three people that were in the room on that given evening. Anything else that is stated about it is merely speculation.”

Paul Orndorff Interview: Being Tougher Than Hogan, Never Getting A WWF Title Run

    12

“Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff sat down with CJ Sabia on the debut episode of the Blue Steel Cage on the VOC Nation Radio Network. Check it out as “Mr. Wonderful” about his body and extensive training regimen in the 1980s, his shoot-style wrestling ability, recovery from neck injury, thoughts on Mr T, wrestling for WCW, and experiences turning on and wrestling Hulk Hogan.

Blue Steel Cage airs weekly, Friday nights at 9 PM ET on the VOC Nation Radio Network at vocnation.com, and simulcast on thebradyhicks.com. The show takes a look at professional wrestling from the viewpoint of an experienced former wrestling promoter, covering today’s wrestling news from both The WWE and the independent wrestling scene. Call into the show (855) VOC-RADIO.

On Not Beating Hogan for the WWF World Title:

“That’s what they should have done. And instead of making hundreds of millions of dollars they could have made thousands of millions of dollars if they had done that. We talked about it some and that’s what they should have done … I guess for some reason because [Hulk] was 6’5” and weighed 320 pounds that he was this big huge thing that nobody should beat him for the belt. If they would have said “Let’s go out there, Paul, and you fight for your life and Terry, you go out there and you fight for your life,” you can bet your ass I would have fought. I guarantee … I would have won and [Hulk] knows it.”

    On Today’s Product:

“It’s been so downgraded. You look at boxing, you look at MMA fighting, that’s what people are watching. It’s more believable. That’s what people want to see. They don’t want to see that phoney baloney out there. They want to see something real. They want to see somebody lose a tooth, have a black eye.”

    On Working with Hulk Hogan

“It worked out because the heel ran the show. I ran the matches, and I worked off of [Hulk Hogan]. [Hogan did] his best to work off of me because [he’d] never be able to keep up with me. I did that with Hogan. That’s why we worked together good. We [were] two Florida boys. I wasn’t buddy-buddy with him. I didn’t weigh 300 pounds but I weighed 240 pounds and I was a badass and he wasn’t.”

On the Art of Being a Great Wrestler:

“I still call it a sport, because it is a sport. To me it takes years and years and years and you’ll never master it. As long as you have an opponent, you have to work around that opponent. And you’ll never master it. Never. You can be good at it, you can be great at it like I was. Or you can be good at it and okay with it. Whatever.”

Former WWE Writer Talks About Triple H Trolling Fans, Bray Wyatt & More

    35

More Like Radio with Andrew Goldstein
    Host: Gary Cantrell
    Available at Morelikeradio.org

Bray Wyatt’s promos getting better: “My big frustration in the beginning was Bray Wyatt was saying a lot of things but none of it mattered. None of it made sense. None of it meant anything. He put Kane on the shelf and no one really cared because they never explained why. We weren’t getting the why to the Wyatt Family. We were just getting these bizarre promos and bizarre sort of black out moments. We just weren’t getting a reason why they were terrorizing who they were terrorizing and now finally their promos are starting to make sense now because they’re sort of raging against this 10 year fan favorite John Cena establishment. They’re making themselves anti-establishment in their own way.”

Serious Cena vs Comedian Cena, does it hurt the Bray Wyatt build: “In general i think that Cena shtick is so damaging to most storylines he’s in. I like that last week, that go home week to the PPV where they make Cena be serious. I thought the build to both Rock matches were really frustrating to see them both take it in a joking manner as opposed to serious. My big critique of the Cena/Rock build in those promos were like that’s just not how men talk to each other when they have a personal conflict. It was all jokes, quippy one liners and pop culture references when they could have gotten a really intense personal conflict story out there. In terms of Cena with Bray, i don’t think we needed the jokes but it didn’t affect me as much this time because we haven’t anybody approach Bray Wyatt like that yet. It was kinda cool to have Cena verbalize what a lot people sitting at home watching are sort of joking about with Bray Wyatt. I don’t think it hurt the story because he came out last week and was more serious in tone.”

Adding Triple H to the Triple Threat and “trolling” Internet Fans: “Super smart move. Especially if Triple H actually wins which i don’t think is going to happen but lets just play out that scenario. Let’s say Triple H beats Daniel Bryan. It’s the most epic trolling of wrestling nerds of all time. They would be dangling a carrot in front of every smart wrestling fan and pulling it away. I would like it just for that reason. The other thing, playing that scenario out. Triple H wins, he gets put in the match. How cool is the 3 guys from Evolution in one match? As triple threats go, i wouldn’t mind seeing that match.”

    WWE Raw (3/31)

Here we are the Raw before WrestleMania XXX. The go home show of all go home shows. Did Raw deliver? Check out our YES! and NO!

Brock Lesnar Finally F5's after circling the ring 10 times. NO!
Brock Lesnar Finally F5’s after circling the ring 10 times. NO!

    The Undertaker & Brock Lesnar
The Undertaker comes out and cuts seeming the same promo he has each week he’s had a mic. Out pops Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman, eventually Brock circles the ring seemingly a dozen times, before the obligatory Paul Heyman distraction where he slips in with a chair, to distract The Undertaker enough so that Brock can “sneak” in and get his hands on The Dead Man.

I had such high hopes for this program, but I must tell you, I’ve been less than impressed. Paul Heyman cut an amazing promo a few weeks back simultaneously putting over The Streak, and why Brock Lesnar would break it (Undertakers age, wear and tear). Since then this has been a lackluster build for me. Am I really to believe that a huge man like Brock Lesnar is THAT afraid to get into the ring? I can buy into some trepidation, but this was ridiculous.  NO!

Alberto Del Rio takes it to Big E. Good Match YES!
Alberto Del Rio takes it to Big E. Good Match YES!

Big E. vs. Alberto Del Rio
I thought Big E and Alberto Del Rio put on a great match, with several near falls and a clean Del Rio win. Of course why they constantly beat a champion, I’ll never understand. Does anyone remember when they actually had in-ring introductions for a Big E intercontinental championship match? That being said, YES!

    Summer Rae vs. Natalya
I liked how a clip was shown from this past weeks Total Diva’s and there was a match to tie things in. I suppose that’s the one thing we lack when it is seemingly all the Total Divas ganging up on AJ who didn’t want to be on the show. However, the conflict was clearly 100% manufactured, and if there was any ounce of reality to Total Divas before this, there isn’t now. YES!

    The Authority
The Authority implying that Daniel Bryan is a “Flavor Of The Day” like Fandango was last year.

The Authority’s Farewell To The “Yes!” Movement, Batista, Randy Orton
Triple H and Stephanie come out and cut a brutally honest promo that blurts the lines between story line and reality. They made some interesting arguments about people wanting to be on a bandwagon, and support a cause. This brought out chants of CM Punk, Yes, and others including boring. After a Stephanie McMahon narrated promo about Triple H always beating the “Flavor of the Day” including Booker T, Chris Jericho, RVD, Kurt Angle and Jeff Hardy,  Out comes BOOtista, and Orton. Pretty much the same song and dance.  Objectively I think this was a good Heel Triple H Promo.  But I’m exhausted from these Authority promos, and Batista and Orton coming out in succession. I’m tired from Daniel Bryan not getting anywhere in the stratosphere of equal mic time. By itself this was good, but after weeks of this, I’m over it. So I say NO!

The Usos & Los Matadores vs. The Real Americans & Ryback and Curtis Axel
This is basically the Pre-Show match with two teams combined. Less reason to get excited about the match itself. After an incredible year of tag-teams in the WWE in 2013, everything that I have enjoyed up to this point has vanished. Cody Rhodes and GoldDust were the hottest Tag Team attraction in WWE last year, they should have been in the tag-team titles mix, or facing each other, in a brother vs brother match that has been rumored for two years.  The USO’s have been in line to win the Tag Titles since July of 13. What better way to elevate those titles then have them win it at WrestleMania XXX against the Outlaws? So another match, similar to what we will see on the small big stage, and I fear that The Uso’s who should retain this, may not possibly, so that a title change gets a reaction, or creates some sort of moment. NO!

Backstage Segment: The Shield & Roman Reigns vs. Kane
I enjoyed this backstage segment from The Shield, they seemed like a cohesive unit here, and I hope to see more of this at WrestleMania. Could The Shield stay together for a while longer? Many thought the match would be all three members of The Shield in a triple thread at this years WrestleMania. I would dislike it to see someone like Dean Ambrose accidentally or deliberately cause a loss for the team. I’d like to see The Shield show their dominance over the last two years. YES!

The Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar: A Subpar Build

    44

On the go-home episode of RAW last night, the Beast Incarnate finally got the upper hand on the Dead Man with a little help from his advocate, blasting the Undertaker with a devastating F-5 after Heyman provided the distraction.

Thus far, there has been little physical contact between the few, with the only instances being the Undertaker chokeslamming Lesnar through a table during their contract signing and Taker hitting Lesnar with a few punches after popping out of a casket.

To say that this feud has not been fully fleshed out would be a serious understatement. In fact, I would not even hesitate to call it a complete disappointment.

Unlike Undertaker’s feuds the past few years, this one seems rushed together with no backstory, made even worse by the fact that both superstars are part-timers who have rarely appeared on television together.

The CM Punk/Undertaker program was an epic feud that truly felt personal.
The CM Punk/Undertaker program was an epic feud that truly felt personal.

Last year’s feud with CM Punk was a masterful build, with a compelling backstory (Punk stealing the urn and mocking Paul Bearer), a weekly confrontation between the two leading up to WrestleMania, and action that actually made the feud feel personal (Punk dumping the contents of the urn on Taker).

This year has been the polar opposite. The two are fighting simply because Lesnar said he has accomplished everything in WWE except conquering the streak. I get that breaking the streak is a valid reason for a feud. After all, it was the reason CM Punk originally wanted to fight the Undertaker in the first place.

However, the difference between last year and this year is that last year’s feud was actually escalated throughout the weeks leading up to WrestleMania, while the Lesnar/Taker feud is literally in the exact same place as it was on the night of the contract signing weeks ago.

It is a shame too, because it is not like creative did not have material to work with. They could have mentioned the infamous confrontation between Lesnar and Taker after Lesnar’s UFC fight a few years back, or their previous feud back in 2002. Instead, it almost seems like the Undertaker has no stake in fighting other than defending the streak, and Lesnar seems disinterested as well. There were elements in place to make the feud seem personal but creative has failed to do so.

Daniel Bryan Talks About Main Eventing WrestleMania, Being Compared To Steve Austin

    6

Daniel Bryan recently spoke to DirecTV to hype Sunday’s WrestleMania XXX pay-per-view. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Being Compared to Steve Austin: “I honestly don’t think they are accurate. There are some similarities, like anyone who has had issues with authority figures in WWE. But I think our attitudes and how we handle things are different. It was a different era when Steve Austin was battling Vince McMahaon. It’s kind of similar, but to me they are way different.”

Fighting Triple H: “The biggest thing is he’s just really smart and he knows what he’s doing. He’s been doing it for years. Not only that, but he’s also a big tough dude. He tore his quad and kept wrestling. He wrestled Cactus Jack in those Hell in a Cell matches and street fights. He is a multiple time WWE and World Champion. He knows what he’s doing and he knows how to win. Also, he’s been in those big matches and main evented WrestleMania before. I think all of those lend to his strengths.”

Potentially Main Eventing WrestleMania XXX: “That is what every wrestler who has ever wanted to step in the ring strives for. It’s funny, 3 years ago, I would do radio interviews and people would ask me what my goal is, and it was to main event WrestleMania. People you are talking to are like “Oh, that’s a nice little dream.” But now here it is and it’s within my grasp. That is literally – when you are lying in bed as a 15-year old kid, and you are dreaming of being a wrestler – that is what you are dreaming of. You want to be in the biggest match in the biggest show of the year. With 70,000 plus fans screaming. That’s what everybody wants when they start this.”

  • Paul Heyman Speaks On WWE’s Key To Success, Undertaker’s Character, WMXXX

    4

The following are highlights of a recent Bleacher Report interview with Paul Heyman:

On WWE’s key to success: “The key to WWE’s success and longevity is that they are, as modern and as relevant as the company may be in modern social media and platforms and contemporary distribution, the company is still built around old-school promotion. Who are these two fighters? Why are they wrestling? And why should I pay to see it? In order to answer those three questions you have to build up the talent. And you can’t just build up talent that has equity in their names. You have to make new stars. And that’s the mantra that has always worked best in any period that you could call the glory days.”

On the Undertaker character succeeding: “I don’t think it was as much the character as it was the man behind the character. I think The Undertaker is, much like Brock Lesnar, a once-in-a-lifetime wrestler, a once-in-a-lifetime athlete and a once-in-a-lifetime performer. You can’t just put somebody in that slot. You need someone who can own up to the role and someone who makes the role theirs, who walks in the skin of the character. When that gels, when the athlete and the performer come together, then you have someone who is truly box office. This is not something that someone else could have accomplished. You couldn’t have given that name and that character to anybody else—they would have never survived.”

On Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XXX: “I think it’s more than special. I’m very blessed. I get the best seat in the house for the match that has the most historical significance and the longest-ranging ramifications in terms of what happens after the match is over. This is Brock Lesnar’s chance to truly step into immortality. From my perspective it’s a match that Brock Lesnar doesn’t have to win but that The Undertaker must not lose.”

  • Chris Jericho Explains Decision Not To Return At WrestleMania XXX, CM Punk, More

    19

The following are highlights of a new Boston Herald interview with Chris Jericho:

On his WrestleMania XXX status: “I’m not a part of it and I won’t be a part of it. And it was my choice to sit out this year.”

On the reason he decided not to return: “If I’m going to be at WrestleMania, it’s going to be in a position that I can sink my teeth into, a position that I think is significant enough for somebody of Y2J’s experience level and notoriety. Looking at the card this year and you see everybody who came back — Brock Lesnar and Undertaker are back, Triple H is back, Batista is back, and it’s the ascension of Daniel Bryan — how many spots are there available for Jericho at this point in time?”

On the CM Punk situation: “Everyone’s asking, ‘Where is CM Punk?’ Punk had enough of whatever was going on, and none of us really know whatever it was, and he left. And that’s your only choice.”
