On if he considers Arrival to be the WrestleMania of NXT: “Everyone here has been saying it feels just like a WrestleMania. So, I would say yes.”

On if he helps train the NXT stars and who his favorites are: “Work with them as much as I can when I’m here. No favorites. Want them all the succeed.”

On why Adrian Neville isn’t on RAW yet: “When he has the most chance to succeed, he will be.”

On the most innovating and compelling aspect of the WWE Performance Center: “From a learning and safety stance, the crash pad ring will add years to careers!”

On if we can expect a Best Of NXT DVD: “Once we have enough to fill one. BTW it’s called @WWENetwork”

On if WWE only looks at talent who develop in NXT: “We look for talent any place, any time, any where!”

  • Kamala Talks Racism In WWE, Vince/Homosexuality, Beating Up Andre The Giant

    108

VOC Nation sent along the following highlights of a recent interview with Kamala:

On becoming a wrestler: “I didn’t really want to be a wrestler. I liked watching wrestling and I couldn’t really find a (real) job.I was with Bobo Brazil and he started training me. I thought itwould be a quick way to make some money, get wealthy, and get rightback out of it. I never wanted to be a wrestler. If I had to do itall over again I wouldn’t be a wrestler.”

On his start and his gimmick: “My first match was with The GreatMaphesto; he broke me in and gave me my start. Jerry Lawler came upwith the Kamala idea. I used to live in Africa and I startedpainting myself back then.”

On working with Andre the Giant: “Andre wasn’t the friendly guy that he appeared to be. He was real temperamental and had a nasty attitude. When I first started working with him, he called me a (derogatory) name in the ring and I beat him up. After that, I never had another problem with him. A lot of (top guys had problems with Andre too). He would just go out and mop the floor with people. He treated (wrestlers) nasty, and the fans too. Andre would do it just about every night. Guys would watch through the curtain to see what he was going to do.”

On working with Hulk Hogan: “We had a lot of good matches and drew a lot of fans all over. Working with Hogan was easy and a treat. I loved working with him.”

On racism in the WWE: “In Summerslam 92, I had one of my biggest matches against the Undertaker. He made a half million dollars and I made 13 (thousand). There was a lot of racism in the WWE. I remember so many times when I was there, I would get there early and find me a nice dressing room; the agents would (kick me out and) let (the white stars) have the dressing room. When I went out to the ring, I was a superstar; backstage I was a nothing.”

On the Undertaker: “I love the Undertaker. If I see him on TV, I’ll stop and watch. I love his gimmick, and I like him. He’s a respectable man and I got along real good with him, and I love his work.”

On retirement and regrets: “I don’t miss it. I wish I had made money where I could have retired and enjoyed life. I worked so hard all those years and didn’t make any money. If I had made money, I would have done the right thing and invested it. I don’t watch wrestling today. If my friends are watching it, I’ll get up and leave. It brings back bad memories.”

On Vince McMahon: “Vince McMahon has certain people that he will pay. If you get along with Vince, do him sexual favors, you’ll get along good with him. But if you just (do your job and) mind your own business, then he doesn’t like you for some reason. There was a lot of men with men in those days and even men with boys. I know a lot of guys that (failed drug tests) and it was documented that they passed, and I know what they did.”

  • Mick Foley Speaks On Being Outspoken About WWE, Network, Eddie Guerrero

    9

The following are highlights of a new Mick Foley Facebook blog:

On being outspoken about the WWE product lately: “Yes, I’ve been outspoken lately about a couple of things in WWE. But much as I felt when I was working elsewhere, and had to accept that my own kids preferred the WWE product to the product my company was offering, I had to make a decision: stop watching WWE out of protest for the one thing I felt like they were doing wrong (which they still might get right) and miss out on that valuable family bonding time WWE provides us….or agree to disagree with WWE on an issue or two, and enjoy all the good things they do with my family.”

“I mentioned a couple of days ago that I might stop watching “Raw” for a little while…and I might. But with this new WWE network, abandoning the product completely would seem kind of futile, especially in a house full of WWE fans.”

On the WWE Network: “So we spent a couple hours watching the network yesterday – catching a great steel cage tag-team match betweern Edge – WWE Universe & Christian – WWE Universe and The Hardy Boyz. Great stuff! We also caught the September 2000 match between Triple H and Kurt Angle with me, as commissioner, and brought back to life just how much fun that whole storyline was, and how an arena full of Attitude fans had let out a simultaneous “oooh” when Kurt, waiting in the rain (with umbrella in hand) had the audacity to give Stephanie McMahon a kiss on the chhek! Oooh. Sounds ridiculously innocent, and very much G-rated, but in the course of events, it was absolutely compelling.”

On watching old Eddie Guerrero footage: “I also had the chance to revisit an old friend who is no longer with us – Eddie Guerrero. Of course, anyone who was around when Eddie wrestled remebers what an amazing in-ring performer eddie was. But with the help of the new network, I was reminded of what an incredible entertainer he was, as well. I’d forgotten how funny his segments could be, and how the slightest expression – the wide-eyed look of wonder when he “accidentally” defeated Chyna for a championship – could create such a sense of fun; a reminder to me why just so many people loved the Attitude Era above and beyond the wilder elements that usually define it.”

  • The Miz Speaks On His Wedding, WrestleMania, Being A Heel vs. Being A Babyface

    1

The following are highlights of a recent interview with WWE Superstar The Miz:

On his wedding with Maryse: “I wanted a wedding where I could actually be able to talk to everyone and just hang out and have fun. It was beautiful and wonderful and perfect.”

On getting to WrestleMania: “You always try to find your way into that main event category. It’s a little bit of everything (to get there). It’s doing everything the WWE needs to do, and hopefully the fans catch on and say, ‘Hey, this guy works harder than anybody. This guy has the talent and the ability, whether it’s on the microphone or in the ring.'”

On being a heel vs. being a babyface: “I do it because I want to entertain that audience the best that I can. I want reaction from that audience. They can boo me, they can cheer me. I don’t care which one it is. I just want that initial reaction. That’s what it’s all about, entertaining those families that are our fans.”

    25

In what could be considered a sign that Sting has still yet to sign with WWE, he has been announced as Ric Flair’s replacement for the Revolution Pro Wrestling events in the United Kingdom on March 14th and March 15th.

As previously reported, with Flair signing a new deal with WWE, while he is still allowed to take outside bookings, they must be approved by WWE and if they conflict with any of the obligations he has with them, he must cancel those bookings. Flair did cancel, citing “personal reasons,” and as noted, RPW announced Sting as his replacement.

  • Fan Who Was Ejected From RAW For His Signs Speaks Out

    96

SEScoops.com reader Justin Stever was one of the fans who was kicked out of Monday’s RAW for his “disruptive” signs. Here’s his live account of what happened:

I went to Monday Night Raw on the 24th in Green Bay, WI. I still have the ticket and have pictures of the event where you can see me.

So they started the matches for Superstars and during the Kofi and Sandow match I raised the Golden Shovel I made. Nothing happened with that. Then I held up a sign for 3MB that said, The New J.O.B. Squad. Nothing happened with that one either. Then Raw started. Hogan comes out and you can visibly see me holding a sign that says, Hogan+Bryan=Ratings || Hogan+Cena=Riot.

After his promo was the Del Rio and Batista match. This is where it all started to go downhill. When Del Rio came out and was walking up the stairs you can clearly see me holding a sign that says, We Agree With CM Punk, UFC>WWE. As i watched it back i realized they took it away during the commercial break.

The second match of the night was Big E vs Cesaro. During that match you could not see me or the sign i held up however I was holding a sign that sad, I Missed My Flight To NXT, So I Had To Settle For This 2nd Rate Show. After watching Raw back i realized they were plugging the NXTArrival show and talking about how both Big E and Cesaro were on NXT, yet they took away an NXT sign? I was absolutely stunned when the event staff guy came over and said quote, “I’m going to need to take that sign too.” I said, “Are you serious? It’s an NXT sign.” To which he replied, ” Yup sorry, they told me to come get it.” I was just like wow whatever.

So then we get the Cena promo and you can also see me in the crowd with my Ronda Rousey sign. When Cena started talking i took off the shirt i was wearing and underneath i had a white t-shirt. I wrote on the back of the t-shirt, #CenaStrike Cena = midcard. I wrote it on the back of the shirt because I didn’t want to see him in the ring and wanted to make a statement. As I had my back turned I held up my Rousey sign that said, Ronda Rousey Would Make Super Cena Tap Out And Bleed. after the Wyatt family walked down the ramp is when the event staff guy came over and told me and the guy I was sitting next to to come over (off camera) and talk with the 2 officers that were there. The guy I was sitting next to was also kicked out and he didn’t do nothing wrong but be next to me. I had just met him and hour before the show when I got to my seat. He was holding my #SavageHOF Ohh Yeahhh sign during the Hogan segment.

So Chris (the guy who was next to me) walked over and the officers asked if we had anything else of ours by our seats, I said yeah and he told us to grab everything. So i grabbed everything and the 5 of us (@officers, event staff guy, Chris, and myself) walked out passed the curtain next to the concession stand. The officer then asked Chris and i what was the problem. We said we didn’t know. Then the officer said, “Then why is he telling me you guys are being disruptive to the show?” I said all I’ve done was had 2 signs taken away. And then i threw my signs on the ground and said here look at them and tell me which ones are acceptable. The officer said he didn’t care about my signs and that wasn’t up to him. He then went on to say that Chris and I were welcome to stay but we could not go back through the curtain into the arena. And we were just like what that ridiculous and not fair. I said so you’re telling me i wasted $111 on a ticket and I’m cant watch 2 hours of the show? He said that’s not his problem and he said I’m going to have to ask you to leave the building and he proceeded to walk us all the way to the doors.

That’s the story. I didn’t get any of Chris’ information or anything. I wish I would have but its too late now. Looking back on the show I was not the only one with a sign in the air during the Cena promo so they cant really use the excuse that I was blocking other peoples views because 100’s of other should have been kicked out as well if that was the case. If you want to see the pictures I can send them in a separate email or you can take them off twitter but I didn’t post all of them on there.

So there you go. The full and true story. Your thoughts?

Jake Roberts Talks About His Surgery, Reveals Additional Growths (Audio)

    4

2014 WWE Hall of Fame Inductee Jake Roberts spoke to Bill Apter on Wednesday about undergoing a 5 1/2 hour surgery earlier this week to remove a cancerous tumor behind his left knee.

Jake said everything went well with the surgery, but also revealed that there are two more smaller growths on his legs as well. He’s thankful for the outpour of support and remains optimistic during this difficult time.

“Jake called me and wanted to make sure the right words got out there. Here is my audio interview with him regarding the surgery and what the doctor has told him thus far. Please share this. Due to the timely nature of the call there are no photos or production–just me doing the interview with Jake.”–Bill Apter 2/26/14

Dolph Ziggler Interview: Hulk Hogan’s Return, WWE Network, Concussions

    5

Dolph Ziggler spoke with “The Shark Show” on 94.1 KRNA on Wednesday (2/26) about to promote WWE’s live event from Cedar Rapids this Saturday. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Hulk Hogan’s Return to WWE on RAW:

“Hulkster came out, the roof came unglued, as a fan I couldn’t believe he was back here working for the same company that I work for. Every year I see him on something else and he looks exactly the same. He’s like our Dick Clark.”

    The WWE Network Launch:

“We’re all excited for it. We know that, you know, you’re always waiting to see what happens and waiting to see how this goes. We’ve been preparing for it for literally years. We’ve been doing interviews for years to get shows ready. Whatever happens Pay Per View wise, we know that no matter what we do, as long as we put out a great product, so many of the WWE Universe want to be part of this because it’s affordable, because of everything that it offers. I think it’s going to be great for everybody.”

    Suffering Two Concussions Last Year:

“I think the concern comes getting one and coming back too quickly while you’re still damaged. WWE has been so in depth and so over the top with protecting everyone that even when I was medically cleared, they still waited much longer to make sure I was fully recovered. As far as we know, medically cleared for weeks before I ever got back in the ring to check it out. We go above and beyond knowing what we know now about concussions and if I had any concerns, there is no way in hell I’d be back in the ring. My brain is way too smart to get it ruined. We’ve taken precautions and I took my sweet time getting back in that ring and now I feel like a million bucks.”

@ChicagoRAWcrowd Rallying Fans On Twitter To “#HijackRAW”

    74

A disgruntled WWE fan who is attending Monday’s RAW from Chicago has set up the @ChicagoRAWcrowd Twitter account. The fan is seeking followers who will also be at the Chicago RAW to organize chants during the show and “#hijackRAW.”

    The account’s description reads:

“We are sick and tired of being sick and tired. Chicago = Change #hijackRAW #WWEChicago #NoMovement”

Disgruntled about the direction of WWE, this is the first Twitter account we’ve seen with the sole purposes of taking over an entire WWE broadcast.

Jim Cornette Talks About The Origins Of Kane’s Character

    11

Jim Cornette appeared on the Inside The Ropes radio show this week and spoke about working with Kane in 1997/98, here are the highlights:

On Jim working on helping establish the Kane character:

“Glen Jacobs, Kane, was a special talent. I knew he had a great upside and potential when Dutch Mantell called me one time in Knoxville in 1995 and said “I’ve got this kid, he looks great, he’s huge, he looks wonderful, he’s sick of being in Puerto Rico and wants to come back to the states, his name’s Glen Jacobs and I think he’s got a great upside” So we made him Unabomb back in Smoky Mountain Wrestling. The Unabomber was hot back in those days. So we booked him, I did, against The Undertaker, for his first time, down in Knoxville at the Superbowl of Champions in August of 95 and Undertaker came in and wrestled him and that was my idea. Here’s a huge guy who can draw big money on pay per view against The Undertaker. That was my sole purpose for pushing Glen Jacobs. So Undertaker went back to Vince and told him “this kid’s gonna be great” so of course he went through his bad gimmicks that Vince wanted to give people and just right as they were about to fire him they said “hey you know we’ve got this idea, Undertaker’s evil brother” And I ran with that because Glen deserved it and was a great talent. They gave me the opportunity, for a while, to get a guy over, unmolested. Russo didn’t see anything in him, so he wasn’t gonna fuck with it. We gave Kane the opportunity and Russo truthfully wanted…. the match in October 1997, Kane interfered in the Hell in a Cell with Undertaker and Shawn Michaels, that was my finish, that was my match, my idea. We were leading to the WrestleMania the next March. So then Russo says “how about we have him chokeslam Undertaker through a table next week on RAW?” and I said “No you fucking idiot, they can’t wrestle each other for six months, lets not blow it straight away, lets build it and have some patience” So for once, possibly the only time, I got my way, we were able to build it to WrestleMania, it was a great match and it established Kane and he has been one of the millionaires club, making seven figures a year since then, based on the fact he’s a tremendous talent, he had the look, the ability and the passion to sometimes overcome bad creative and make himself a star. I like the fact I had some part in establishing him but the rest of it’s been up to him.”

On the origins of the character of Kane:

“The thing that put Kane over the top is that he didn’t just appeal to the wrestling fan, he appealed to a mass audience because my original vision was….my favourite horror movie was Halloween, Michael Myers and that was my original vision for Kane when I was told that Kane would be the Undertaker’s evil brother who’s existed all this time. I thought what if he was like Michael Myers, the main character in Halloween, what if he was like the embodiment of evil. That’s the flavour that not just wrestling fans but everyone watching the show, they got. This guy is the embodiment of evil, he’s somewhat inhuman,he doesn’t feel pain, he doesn’t feel remorse. That was the thing that kicked Kane off and then later on we did the dipsy doodles with him but first and foremost it was that this is Michael Myers from Halloween come to life and everyone can identify with a spooky mother fucker that doesn’t feel pain and just seeks to destroy people. That was what I gave to him and everything else he’s done, there’s been some good creative, some bad creative but he’s a great fucking guy, he’s a great talent and he’s made the most of what he’s had to work with. But originally, it was that this guy is the star of Halloween, he’s a monster, he’s spooky and nobody knows quite how he got these powers. That was something that could appeal to everybody.”

Those plans have apparently been scratched.

Additionally, for whatever reason, WWE decided to change the on-air role for Stephanie McMahon, as they stopped referring to her as one of the owners of the company.

  • Update On Jeff Jarrett’s New Wrestling Promotion: Weekly Tuesday Night Show?

    10

The latest regarding Jeff Jarrett’s new pro wrestling promotion is that it will be financed by a group of partners, and not just country music star Toby Keith. It should be noted that Keith is worth $500 million himself, which is a considerable amount more than what Vince McMahon was worth before the WWE stock went through the roof.

Also, regarding the promotion’s financial backing, when the group was looking at possibly buying TNA, they were always described as “Nashville music investors.”

Speaking of Jarrett, he appeared at a sports convention in Nashville on February 22nd. While he didn’t say much about the new promotion, he did confirm that it was “a go,” and also spoke about the idea of doing a weekly Tuesday night television show.
