HHH Speaks On Next Week’s RAW Main Event, Kane Attacking Daniel Bryan

12

WWE has posted the latest sit-down interview between Triple H and Michael Cole on their official company website. As usual, “The Game” talks about a number of topics.

HHH spoke about the upcoming main event on next Monday’s RAW between Randy Orton and John Cena, referring to the match as an “epic main event.” He also noted that big things are expected for the match.

Regarding Kane’s attack on Daniel Bryan at this past Monday’s RAW, Hunter claimed Kane was just defending himself. He claimed that there will be an internal investigation to determine whether or not Kane made a mistake on the job.

Triple H also praised Bryan’s effort on Monday’s RAW and noted that he expected Orton to have a better performance.

  • Jim Ross Speaks On CM Punk’s WWE Departure, Current WWE Locker Room, More

    8

The following are highlights from a new Newsday.com interview with WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross:

On the current WWE locker room compared to the Attitude Era: “This whole locker room has a different feel to it, and a different — they’re not as edgy as the Attitude Era locker room. They’re not as competitive. I don’t know that they’re as hungry. But now, CM Punk is different. [Compared with] today’s corporate wrestler, CM Punk is a little bit of a rogue. And I don’t mean that in a negative way.”

On CM Punk: “Over the last two of three years, he’s been my favorite WWE performer to watch in the ring, without question. He would’ve been a huge star in the Attitude Era, without question. Here’s the deal: He’s a very cerebral guy, who has an old-school spirit, that really cares about every aspect of the business. I think that he needed time off, ample time off, to recharge his batteries. I think he has, for lack of a better term, a major case of burnout. And I think the problem should have been recognized and addressed much earlier than letting it get to a head and him being so frustrated and such a sense of hopelessness that he decided to go home. Walking away from a problem is never a solution. Never. Solve the problem.”

  • Backstage Concern Over Alberto Del Rio Leaving WWE

    85

There was talk backstage at Monday’s WWE RAW that Alberto Del Rio has been making noise about potentially leaving the company when his current WWE contract expires, according to a report at PWInsider.com.

Apparently Del Rio has been frustrated after going from being a top guy on the SmackDown brand to what he considers to be someone simply being fed to Batista. A lot of the talk in the company is that due to Del Rio’s age, him talking about retirement in the past and the fact that he has had a considerable amount of success and notiriety in Mexico, that maybe it’s getting close to the time that he eventually walks away.

There is no definitive word at this point as to whether or not Del Rio has started working on a new contract, but there is at least a certain amount of concern over his future after the talk at RAW this past Monday night.

  • Jim Cornette Talks About CM Punk’s WWE Departure

    25

Between The Ropes interview with Jim Cornette
    Host: Brian Fritz
    Interview available at Betweentheropes.com

On his place in wrestling history: “I would eventually like to be remembered as the second best manager ever in wrestling next to Bobby Heenan. If I could get that, I’d be happy.”

On having any regrets or being too outspoken: “I’ve been cranky with people in the past. I get cranky because I always place more importance on the quality of what I was doing because I was a fan and all performers are insecure I guess. I was always a wrestling fan. If I was allowed in this business, I wanted to get it right. I wanted to be noted for being a great whatever I was doing at the time and that was more valuable to me than money. It was never a job to me. So, I’ve probably short-changed myself but at the same time I would not have had as many of the wonderful experiences that I have had if I hadn’t pissed some of the people off I’ve pissed off.”

On why there is still typecasting in wrestling when it comes to size of wrestlers and that hasn’t changed considering all of the changes in wrestling over the years: “I don’t ****ing know what the people looking for talent are looking for these days. It’s almost to the point where I hate doing a wrestling school seminar because if I tell a guy ‘you’re great, I’d hire you in a second’ that’s the kiss of death. I look for drive and passion for the business and aptitude, a certain amount of look but a certain amount of potential also for a look that you might have. And a guy who is a natural performer in the ring. I don’t know. As I always say for the type of people who like that type of thing, that’s the type of thing those people like.”

On CM Punk leaving the WWE: “I can totally identify with CM Punk. His body is beaten up, he’s been on the road for ten years, he doesn’t live big and I’m sure he’s got more money than the federal government and he doesn’t like what they’re doing with him and he’s just tired of the whole thing and he wants to go rest. And he said at a comic convention one of these days he’s going to go buy a cabin in the middle of nowhere and we’re never going to see him again. You know, I wish I could have been like that. I said I’ve made six-figure incomes most of the last 30 years but I never made a million dollars. And guys these days can make a million dollars. If I had made a million dollars in one year, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. I’d be in the castle but no one would ever see me again. All in all, ****, Punk, good for you! Go home and don’t come back until you want to. I love that. That is the greatest thing I’ve ever heard.”

Former WWE Diva Speaks On Her Hatred For Vince Russo, WrestleMania & More

    10

SESCOOPS.COM reader Neal Jones sent along the following:

Recap of Leilani Kai on In Your Head Wrestling Radio
    by Vic Schiavone

Host Jack E. Jones welcomed legendary ladies wrestler Leilani Kai to IYH Wrestling Radio.

    Highlights included the following:

What was the build-up like for you for your match in WrestleMania I? Could you see how big this was going to be?: “I didn’t really realize it at first. I did a match with Wendi (Richter), and I retained the belt, but afterwards I had actually gone to Japan and I didn’t get back till probably two days before the actual event of WrestleMania. I didn’t realize how big it was until I got there. Once I was in the arena, there was so much excitement going on; people running around everywhere, and seeing celebrities and all. I didn’t realize how big it was, not at that moment I didn’t. I realized it afterwards; they had a big huge party and everybody was there and having a good time and dancing. It was a little bit different, but I didn’t realize really how big it was until I was there. I didn’t hear much talk about it when I was overseas…I didn’t really realize how big it was going to be, but it was the most exciting night of my whole life. I loved it; it was a lot of fun.”

Where did your hatred for Vince Russo start?: “It started when he wanted me to do mud wrestling. I had come to the event, I think it was Denver, Colorado, to wrestle a lady named Brandy Alexander, and they just changed it on me and wanted me to do mud wrestling on the show. I was like, ‘You’ve got to be out of your mind; I’m not going to do anything like that.’ Now that I think about it, I would do anything if I can let him get in the mud with me, maybe in a cage, and I’ll wrestle him and let him see what it feels like. I’d love to do that; get in a mud wrestling match with him in a cage. But that was an awful long time ago, and I just didn’t care for that at all. That’s not what I’m about, and it really upset me pretty bad; it wasn’t a very good scene. I really don’t think that he knew what he was doing, I really don’t. It didn’t do a lot for a lot of the young talent getting in the business; it wasn’t good for them at all. I don’t think they were treated right and he just messed it up with that cartoonish-type thing. I think it messed it up for a lot of the guys who were really trying to make it in the business and worked so hard to pave for pro wrestling. I just didn’t care for the way he pursued his characters or whatever cartoonish things he did. It really made me mad when he said that to me; I was really upset, I think I really went off on him.”

    Other topics discussed included:
·Who are some of the younger female wrestlers that stand out to her?
·What does she think the differences are between women’s wrestling now and when she broke in?
·How did the match against Alundra Blayze at WrestleMania X come about?

  • Ron Simmons Speaks On Mae Young’s Death, Atlanta Wrestling Fans & More

    4

SESCOOPS.COM reader Neal Jones sent along the following:

Recap of Ron Simmons on In Your Head Wrestling Radio
    by Vic Schiavone

Host Jack E. Jones welcomed WWE Hall-of-Famer Ron Simmons to IYH Wrestling Radio

    Highlights included the following:

How do wrestling fans in Atlanta stand out from fans in other parts of the country?: “Well, I think that they’ve got a little bit of background and history, because you had Georgia Championship Wrestling, you had NWA, WCW…there are a lot of roots in professional wrestling here. It goes way back, and believe me, you are talking about excited fans; I mean hardcore, wrestling fans, who know their history of it, know the origins of it, know the guys and the different generations of the wrestlers. The South is really a wrestling haven for people that have grown up in the business and in particular Atlanta.”

Mae Young passed away recently; do you have any memories of her you would like to share?: “The only thing I can say about Mae Young is that it was just an honor to have been around her for the many years that I had the privilege of seeing her even in action and being around her. She was just a great woman; always cheerful, always had something uplifting to tell you. Along with (The Fabulous) Moolah, her partner, when you saw one of them you might as well had seen them both because they were very much alike, and they were fantastic women as well as great wrestlers period. I don’t want to say just for being a woman, I mean period; as tough as they come, and she will surely be missed. God bless her.”

    Other topics discussed included:
·What were his thoughts on Ole Anderson and what was it like being in the ring with him?
·What was it like wrestling with Butch Reed in the tag team Doom?
·What is his favorite horror movie?

KaBOOM! and WWE are teaming up to build a new playground at Woodland West Elementary School in Harvey, Louisiana, which serves more than 700 children in grades K-5. To kick-off the project, WWE Superstar Kofi Kingston® hosted a Design Day at Woodland West Elementary today during which children had the chance to brainstorm, draw and design their dream playground. Elements from the drawings will be incorporated into the final design for the playground.

The children will have their final design come to life during WrestleMania Week on Friday, April 4, when WWE Superstars, WWE employees and community volunteers will spend the day mulching, shoveling and hammering together to build them the playground of their dreams. • Well-Known Wrestler Trying Out To Become San Diego Padres Announcer

    6

SESCOOPS.COM reader Marc Kruskol from MJK Public Relations sent along the following:

World Champion Pro Wrestler taking a shot at the Big Leagues

He was listed by the San Diego Padres as applicant 362, but much of the world knows him by a different moniker – “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce.

Men and women from across the country and from all walks of life –baseball fans and aficionados and radio professionals and everything in between – flocked to Petco Park on January 25th to audition to become the new Public Address Announcer for the San Diego Padres.

Pearce, a resident of San Diego, was one of nearly a thousand prospective applicants that turned up, but comes from a very different background – it appears he was the only world champion professional wrestler in the bunch.

A five-time NWA World’s Heavyweight Wrestling Champion, the 35-year-old Pearce bucks most of the stereotypes associated with pro wrestling. Sure, he sports a bald head, goatee, and an athletic 245-pound frame that could conjure memories of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, but there’s more than meets the eye. With a degree in Communication, Pearce has also worked as a television producer and director, film maker, model, and public speaker in addition to trotting the globe for the last 18 years as the villainous “Scrap Iron”. Last December he worked as a coach and trainer with the developmental talent for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), the multi-million dollar wrestling empire owned by Vince McMahon.

One of his duties as coach: Speaking.

“The majority of stories told in television pro wrestling are through the spoken word,” says Pearce. To that point, Pearce’s speaking is easy and free, and on top of it all, Pearce has that distinct voice – the most obvious of necessities one would assume the Padres are looking for in a PA announcer. “My resume is probably the most unique among the applicants,” said Pearce. “I can’t imagine there are many pro wrestlers sitting behind the mic for a big league team. I’ve had a wonderful career, but this is a baseball fan’s dream job. Why not me?”

The Padres have reportedly narrowed the field down to 20 finalists, all of which will compete for the job once again at Padres FanFest on Saturday, February 8 with the Top 3 to be decided by fan voting online via social media (#PadresPA).

“Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce is one of those finalists.

“It’s an honor,” says Pearce. “The fact that the Padres would open this opportunity up to virtually everyone speaks to their commitment to the community and finding a voice that represents it. It’s exciting, and I like being the dark horse in the race. I literally have nothing to lose.”

    12

The following are highlights from a new Jim Ross Q&A update:

On why fans should take Randy Orton as champion seriously after losing multiple “non-title” matches: “It’s an old school philosophy. The champion losing non title bouts gives the impression that the title holder is vulnerable and ripe for the pickings.”

On his thoughts of a potential Daniel Bryan vs. Kurt Angle match: “If both were healthy and the match was creatively presented as it should, there is no doubt that those two wouldn’t have a great performance.”

On his thoughts on how WWE should handle the upcoming event in Chicago without CM Punk: “The show must go on and hopefully it will have enough good content to help some fans move on so as to not to negatively disrupt the broadcast to an unwatchable degree.”

On his thoughts of all the recent hatred from the fans towards Batista: “I’d guess it was merely the fall out of the Daniel Bryan situation and not directed directly at Batista.”

    33

2014 WWE Hall of Fame inductee The Ultimate Warrior tweeted the following about the death of Academy Award winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman:

WWE Hall Of Famer Speaks On Jake “The Snake” Roberts’ Sobriety

    2

WWE Hall Of Famer “Cowboy” Bill Watts, who has had a rocky relationship in the past with the soon-to-be WWE Hall Of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts, recently spoke to Doug Mortman and Dave Lagreca on the Busted Open radio show about Roberts. Regarding Roberts’ sobriety, Watts stated the following:

“Well I certainly wish him well and I hope that this time it’s for real. I know he’s had these turnarounds and I think it’s been questionable if they been real. So I hope it is for his sake because at one time Jake was somebody you enjoyed to be around. As a matter of fact, we had set up for Jake a really good position with WCW. But then he went back and he slid back. And I’m just going to say this, that it’s a tough thing. It’s an extremely tough thing; substance abuse. My own family, I’ve had to deal with it. It’s the hardest thing in the world because you try to appeal to them logically but there is no logic. Because you’re talking to the substance. And it’s the most heartrending, horrible thing I’ve ever had to deal with. The Von Erich family for instance. The things that they went through as a family. I mean that entire tragedy. One of the hardest things was the fact that Jack never could get his hands around the understanding that his children; that his boys had become drug addicts. And that whole thing was just so–because those were good kids! They really were and then what happened to them. So we’ve seen the drugs and we’ve seen what’s going on with it. And I know why Ted DiBiase; I talked with one time. He was trying to relate to me how many guys that passed away and there’s been some substance abuse involved in wrestling in the last 20 years. And I’ve had a lot of friends that have lost their sons and that’s been the underlying factor. It’s just a scary, scary thing. But there’s a lot of things challenging the kids today that fortunately you know–I was glad that when I was in college, all we had was beer.”

Ventura spoke about the alarming widespread surveillance of United States citizens and the failures of the Republican and Democratic parties.

“I now view the United States from the outside, and I don’t like what I see,” Ventura said. “You know what the favorite T-shirt was off the grid down here a couple years ago? A picture of [former President] George Bush, and it said weapon of mass destruction. Is that the way we want the United States portrayed throughout the world? I don’t think so.”

He also said talked about the role of money in politics and said his own campaign raised less than he made as Governor. His TV show is not about making money – it’s about educating the public.

“I don’t need the money. I’ve made the money,” Ventura said. “I don’t need no more money; I can live right now and my family until I die.”

  • Report: Another TNA Star Has Heated Exchange With Management During U.K. Tour

    8

As previously reported, TNA veteran Kurt Angle had a backstage blow-up with “Big” John Gaburick during the company’s U.K. tour. Apparently Angle wasn’t the only star to have a heated exchange with the TNA executive.

According to a new PWInsider.com article, TNA star Eric Young had a verbal exchange with Gaburick during the U.K. tour as well. Gaburick apparently ran down Young backstage after his Monter’s Ball match with Abyss, which was taped for this week’s edition of Impact Wrestling.

The report claims Gaburick told Young that he took too long in selling an attack from Abyss and should have exited the ring quicker due to the fact that they had additional segments to tape.

As a result, Young, who is well liked and considered to be a performer who rarely speaks out, didn’t hold back this time. According to reports, Young vented his frustration over the situation and the matter was quickly resolved. Basically put, it wasn’t a major incident or anything like that.
