The following are highlights of a recent Newsday.com interview with former Spirit Squad member Mike Mondo:

On his first meeting with Vince McMahon: “‘He was like, ‘Haha! This is going to work. I like it.’ I understood that this was a character [The Spirit Squad] that was going to get heat. The wrestling was almost secondary.”

On his first WrestleMania and getting encouragement from Shawn Michaels: “I remember just looking around at the Squad members and thinking, ‘We made it to the dance. We made it to WrestleMania.’ He [Shawn Michaels] said to us while we were down there, ‘Welcome to WrestleMania boys.'”

On Dolph Ziggler’s success after The Spirit Squad gimmick ended: “The fact that he’s had a lot of success with the Intercontinental title, and winning the world title and the Money in the Bank, that’s really cool. So if was not going to be me, I’m glad the next guy in line was Dolph.”

  • Mick Foley Speaks On Possible WWE Network Special, Comedy Show Hecklers

    2

The following are highlights of a recent Bellevue Reporter interview with WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley:

On getting heckled by fans at his comedy events: “I tend not to get hecklers. I tend to get over-exuberant wrestling fans. Fans who don’t always understand that they shouldn’t shout out the endings to my stories. Because, if they’re fans, they already know how the stories end. Those people enjoy it, but it’s frustrating they don’t let me finish the stories. Fortunately, I’m experienced entertaining on Friday and Saturday nights, when some people are drunker than usual. But if that happens, I just stand back and let the club handle it. I don’t fear a heckler. I don’t take pride in shredding them apart, but I’m not afraid either. We’re supposed to be having laughs… I take honor in the act of entertaining people who laid down their money.”

On whether or not fans can expect a Mick Foley comedy special: “Yeah, yeah. I believe this is the year WWE is rolling out their TV network. WWE gets this option on a special from me and, if they decide they don’t want it, then I can take it elsewhere. But fans can expect a special with an hour of my material relatively soon. And I’ll be happy about that too, because then I can stop going on the air and saying, “Trust me.””

Jim Ross Q&A: Warrior vs. Ryback At WMXXX?, Hogan, CM Punk/Chicago RAW

    12

The following are highlights from a recent Jim Ross website Q&A update:

On rumors that Hulk Hogan failed to pass a WWE medical: “I’m not a big, rumor guy. Surprised that you are. I’ve endorsed Hogan to be a part of WM30 for months and never once have I said that he needed to wrestle to be an asset to the event. Hogan has horrific back problems so why put him in any risk unnecessarily? That wold make no sense.”

On why we don’t see Undertaker much outside of WWE: “He likes his privacy and is serious about protecting the overall mystique of his TV persona.”

On who should induct Ultimate Warrior and rumors of him wrestling Ryback at WrestleMania XXX: “I have no idea who will induct Warrior at the WWE HOF and haven’t thought that much about it. I also have no idea why so many think that Warrior is wrestling Ryback at WM30? Has that match been officially announced or is it more speculation?”

On the idea that Bad News Barrett’s bad news at RAW in Chicago should be that CM Punk isn’t there: “That’s been suggested by others. It might work. Or Punk might be back.”

  • Shawn Michaels Speaks On Undertaker’s Streak, Daniel Bryan, WrestleMania

    22

The following are highlights from the new “30 Years Of WrestleMania” podcast interview with WWE Hall Of Famer Shawn Michaels:

On his “Mr. WrestleMania” name: “Honestly, the whole Mr. WrestleMania thing, it wasn’t anything that I said until WrestleMania 21, and it was just one of those silly lines you throw out there to just for the sake of sounding cool on a promo.”

On if Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak should end: “Oh, no. I think The Streak is The Streak. It can’t really be called The Streak if there’s a one in the loss column.”

On how he feels about Undertaker being the one to retire him: “I was thrilled about it, again, it’s certainly for me much like all of my career. There wasn’t a lot of planning, a lot of thought, the majority of what I did in my career was reactionary, because that’s when for me I hit the truest and most honest emotion out of myself. I think everybody in this industry loves to do everything in hindsight, and in hindsight everybody’s a genius, but the immediate reaction is what I go on. There was no planning that Undertaker would be the guy to end, none of those things were thought about. All of those things fell into place and I felt good about them and that’s what I based it on. I didn’t give it a lot of thought, it’s sort of like when you know something’s right you know it’s right and that’s how it was done.”

On his famous WrestleMania 12 ring entrance: “We wanted to start making my entrances a little grander, and I got a rope and I swung down from the top of the house that was on the entrance. And I vaguely recall Kevin Dunn mentioning that at WrestleMania we are gonna try and get you a pretty cool entrance and that’s all I knew of it. Then I got to the Anaheim Pond that day, and went walking out and Vince was standing there and said ‘You gotta try this!”

On who he would like to face at WrestleMania from today’s roster: “That’s an easy one for me, it would have to be Daniel Bryan. I’d throw in any of The Shield members. I think those boys are talented. Throw in (Dolph) Ziggler in there, throw in Damien Sandow, I think Bray Wyatt and the Wyatt Family are really good. There are a number of guys put in the right positions that you could just tear the house down with. And at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about, it’s going out there and having a whale of a time making people yell.”

  • Mick Foley Explains Why His 2012 Feud With Dean Ambrose Was Dropped

    14

Earlier this week, WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley held a ‘Tales Of Wrestling Past’ comedy event from Nanaimo on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada.

During a Q&A session, Foley explained why his 2012 online feud wtih Dean Ambrose was abruptly dropped. Here’s a recap, courtesy of Reddit user /u/TheBronynSchulze:

“Last night I went to Tales from Wrestling Past with Mick Foley in Nanaimo, BC. If you ever have the chance to go, you absolutely must go. He’s a really funny guy with a lot of interesting stories. He did about an hour and a bit of telling stories and talking about his career and for the last hour of the show he took questions from the audience. I was lucky enough to be able to ask a few questions.

‘Who is your favorite current wrestler and why is it Antonio Cesaro?’ Followed by ‘What was the reason the potential Ambrose/Foley feud never happened?’

If you aren’t familiar with the potential feud, Foley and Dean had a viral video of them having a confrontation in an airport, followed by a number of tweets back and forth between them.

Video: Dean Ambrose Confronts Mick Foley At Hotel Prior To WrestleMania 28

Ambrose’s tweets contained threats to him and his family, saying he wanted to make his kids become homeless and orphans. The belief among dirt sheets at the time is that Foley wasn’t okay with these comments and told Ambrose to stop, and he didn’t and that’s why Foley called off the feud.

Mick explained that he did actually have a problem with the tweets directed towards his family and he texted Dean asking him to stop. Ambrose continued after the text and had several tweets mentioning his family. Little to Mick’s knowledge, Ambrose was working a UK tour and his cellphone couldn’t receive texts. So Dean continued tweeting and working the feud on Twitter.

When Dean came back from the UK he pulled the tweets and apologized to Foley. The feud was still supposed to happen until Mick failed the impact test. The doctors told Foley he should never wrestle again. Foley would then go on to his own doctors who told him the exact same thing.

Foley said he was upset that he couldn’t have the feud with Ambrose, but he believes it was best in the end because Ambrose ended up debuting with the Shield.”

WWE & Mattel Sign New Multi-Year Licensing Deal Through 2019

Steve Austin Speaks On John Cena’s Future, Advice To WWE Talent & More

    28

The following are quotes from “Stone Cold” Steve Austin from the latest edition of his “Steve Austin Show” podcast:

On advice to younger talent and John Cena wanting challenges for the top spot: “Let me tell you something, there ain’t nobody holding nobody down in WWE. Now it’s true that the powers that be do not believe in certain people. It is up to the talent to make management believe in them and give them a push. There is a pretty thin roster of talent in that locker room. There’s a lot of guys and gals, but when you talk about the cream of the crop, you’re talking about the best.”

“Vince McMahon will let anybody be a star that has the potential be a star. John Cena wants different dance partners. Triple H would love a different dance partner. Randy Orton would love a different dance partner. Daniel Bryan would love a different dance partner. C.M. Punk, if he comes back, would love a different dance partner. So, hey man, the doors are wide open, the ceiling is unlimited. I hear that all the time, man.”

On John Cena’s status as top dog and his work ethic: “John Cena is the top dog. He would love for someone to be in contention for that top dog status because he’s an alpha male, he’s a competitive cat and he wants to battle it out and fight for his job. All he does is keep going up and down the road, doing his best, giving it his all in the ring, and that’s all you can ask from a WWE superstar. All the cats I just mentioned are working their asses off and doing their deal. It’s gotta be up to the talent coming up to make some noise, not be afraid to go out on a limb and take a chance.”

On what current WWE Superstars should do: “You cats in the back who listen to my show in the back, do something, wake somebody up, grab that f—ing business, that company by the throat and say, ‘Hey, mother—-er I want a push!’ The sky is the limit, cats.”
