KENTA Comments On Training With WWE This Week

13

Pro Wrestling Noah star KENTA posted a blog about his training at the WWE Performance Center this week. Here’s an English translation from yottsumepuroresu.blogspot.jp:

“I am sorry for having you all confused over the various information about my visit in the US.

As a matter of fact, I am in the States and enjoying the WWE training. But as for now, it’s not about getting a tryout or a contract.

It is indeed true that I have always been yearning for a spot in WWE, and I’ve always wanted to give it a try sometime. After all, you only live once. “I should have given it a try.” “I should have chosen another way.” I’ve had those regrets when I was in my middle and high school, and even after I got in to this business. I just did not want to regret later about something I haven’t tried, so I used my time off to participate in the WWE workout. The executives were at the workout, so perhaps I may have left a mark.

The place is full of competition and hungry guys. It’s not as simple as being good at Puroresu or having strength. There are so many guys with monster physique and guys who are way athletically superior to me. And even they don’t get into the big league. That’s how tough this place could be. I can easily imagine that surviving in this environment could be severe. And spending a few days in that environment became a really good experience for me.

I’m sorry to have caused the confusion, but one thing I can say for sure is that “I’m glad I came”. I would like to work even harder making use of this experience.

And lastly, I would like to thank [NOAH] President [Akira] Taue for letting me take this chance.”

  • Latest News On Jeff Jarrett’s Possible New Wrestling Promotion, Jarrett Comments

    23

While rumors continue to make the rounds on the internet that TNA founder and longtime pro wrestling star Jeff Jarrett is working on a potential new pro wrestling promotion, Jarrett continues to remain tight-lipped regarding actual specifics.

“Double J” noted via his official Twitter account a couple of weeks ago that he spent three days in Los Angeles to take a number of business-related meetings. When Jarrett returned home from the L.A. trip, he tweeted, “Back in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Great three days in Hollywood. Time to analyze, digest all the info, and make some decisions.”

We noted a week ago that Jarrett was reportedly scouting talent for the potential project, a fact Jarrett confirmed with a tweet on January 23rd that read, “Spent the morning doing one of the things I really love about this business. Watching good independent talent. There is a LOT out there.”

That same day, Jarrett’s wife Karen noted on her verified Twitter account, “First thing tomorrow looking for office space. I am so excited!”

Jarrett himself continues to post tweets on his official Twitter account regarding talent scouting, including one where he re-tweeted Smith Hart, the oldest son of wrestling legend Stu Hart, and brother to WWE Hall Of Famer Bret “The Hitman” Hart, which stated, “Jeff Jarrett will be doing a talent evaluation seminar with @3AWrestling in March. Opportunities like this are rare.”

Our friends at Newsday.com sent word that while Jarrett declined an interview request from them this week, he did note in an e-mail to them, “I can tell you I’m making good progress, so, stay tuned!”

Elaine Schock, who is the publicist of country music star Toby Keith, who is rumored to be involved with the project, noted to Newsday, “I still have not heard anything that I can confirm.”

Keith is a longtime pro wrestling fan who has appeared for TNA Wrestling in the past, and was even rumored to be meeting with TNA officials late last year in regards to possibly buying the promotion.

  • Daniel Bryan Speaks On His Relationship With Brie Bella, MMA/Wrestling, More

    6

The following are highlights of a recent interview with WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan from TheClassical.org:

On his relationship with Brie Bella: We very rarely get time off, so for us, it’s mostly just recovering from wrestling. A lot of times, I’ll leave on Friday and I don’t get home ’til Wednesday, so then I have the rest of Wednesday, which I’m exhausted [for], and then Thursday, [for] which I spend a lot of the day packing for the weekend. We don’t go on a lot of dates per se. Our lives are relatively boring in comparison to what you would think.

But when we do get some time off, like for Valentine’s Day [2013], we had like four days off, and we went to Sedona, Arizona, which is like a little piece of Heaven. We did some stargazing. We went hiking. We went on this guided spiritual tour thing. It was so much fun. It was beautiful. It was out in the mountains and all that kind of stuff. That’s kind of the thing that we’re into.

On what wrestling can learn from MMA and vice-versa: Okay, so there’s a lot of things that wrestling can take from MMA. One of the things that MMA does very, very well—and boxing does this, too—is creating personality profiles leading up to big fights, like the 24/7 stuff and the UFC Countdownspecials—promoting people as personalities and how they’re training and how important this particular fight is for these fighters. I think they do an incredible job with that, especially given that they don’t have the hours of TV time that we do on WWE.

For example, if you would have seen [something on] me and John Cena, one of the interesting aspects is how different we are and the different lifestyles we lead and how we train. He’s very strong at doing the Olympic lifts. Whenever we go somewhere and we’re doing some Olympic lifts, people will always comment, one, on how strong he is, and two, on how great his form is. He’s worked extensively on his Olympic lifting—snatches, clean-and-jerks, all that kind of stuff. If he wasn’t wrestling and focused exclusively on that, [he’d] probably [be] world-class. For me, I do train with Olympic lifting and that sort of thing, but I’d rather be kickboxing and grappling. That’s how I train for wrestling. Those kind of personality profiles would really enhance the company [if they would] really get a look at people as they’re training for a big match.

What MMA can take from us is a lot, especially [with] fighters after they win. ‘Hey, is there anybody that you’d like to fight next?’ and when they’re just kind of like [apathetic voice], ‘Oh, you know, just whoever Dana White wants me to face,’ and that sort of thing. No, man! That’s a chance for you to get yourself over or to make a challenge. I think more and more guys are starting to get that now, especially with how successful Chael Sonnen has been with just using his mouth. Even somebody like Quinton Jackson was such a big talker. Any time that you can add something to yourself and make yourself more marketable, that’s going to help you in the long run, and that’s going to help whatever company that you’re fighting for, whether it be boxing, MMA or that sort of thing.

They could probably even take some stuff from having exciting ring entrances or fancier ring gear. You see that a lot with boxing. You get those awesome robes.

  • Dean Ambrose Speaks On Who He Travels With, Who He’d Like To Feud With, More

    27

The following are highlights from a recent interview with WWE Superstar Dean Ambrose from TheClassical.org:

On the early days of The Shield concept, how it was pitched to him, etc: It wasn’t ever pitched to us. It was very out of nowhere. It was a secret kind of idea. I have an idea—I’ll save that for another time—[of] what the original, original idea was. It’s just been ever-evolving. One day, it was just like, ‘All right, you three are going to wear black turtlenecks and run in and beat up Ryback,’ and we’re just like, ‘Uh, okay.’ At the time, you’re like, ‘I don’t even care.’ I [had been] in developmental for over a year at that point and was just ready to pull my eyes out, so [with] any tiny, little bit of opening they’ll give me, I was like, ‘Yup, let’s do it.’ I’ll kick in that door if you crack it open, and I think we all felt that way. But doing Survivor Series and interfering in a WWE Championship match on one of the bigger pay-per-views that the company does, that’s like, ‘Holy crap.’ If you know what the deal is or not, you can’t ask for a better spotlight than [that].

We didn’t really know what the deal was, and they didn’t really know what the deal was with it. We were kind of making it up as we were going along. The name—it’s just a natural thing. A lot of times, we’re defenders. We’re defending what we perceive to be justice, or the good of the business, or somebody who paid us off. We can act as a shield, so we were The Shield.

The attire came naturally. The entrance came naturally because why would we be in the locker room with everybody when we’re acting as mercenaries? I remember being like, ‘Why would we ever come through the Gorilla position? Who would let us in the locker room after the stuff we pulled?’ so we came through the crowd. Then, that’s like a thing, too. That’s like a statement for us, separating ourselves from the locker room as far as we want to outwork everybody and outperform everybody. We’re not your typical WWE wrestlers and we’re going to make ourselves into more. It’s like a statement that we’re taking over this business and we don’t care.

On who he travels with and guys he’d like to feud with in the future: I travel with The Shield. We keep it very tight and travel together. I’ll travel with Claudio [Castagnoli] sometimes—Antonio Cesaro. I get along with pretty much everybody. I’m really easy to get along with. I can be pretty quiet and keep to myself. I’m a guy who just kind of sits in the back of a room [to] watch and learn and see what everybody’s doing. I’m a super laid-back, easy-to-get-along-with kind of guy.

As far as who I’d like to feud with in the future, there’s so many [people] it’s hard to count. I’m sure eventually, it’s going to happen one day where either any of the three of us in The Shield are going to be looking across the ring from each other. You know, when that happens, that’ll be a good day because hopefully, it’s in a position where we’re doing it in a high-profile scenario for a lot of money.

Randy [Orton] is a guy. I’m on the same side of the fence as Randy right now, but Randy’s a guy that I love watching work. He’s a guy [where] I’ll always stop and watch his matches.

[Voice rises enthusiastically] Christian is just so unbelievably good. I mean, I always knew Christian was really good. Working with Christian, he’s been here for so long and has so much experience, you realize his brain is a super-evolved version of my brain [with] the way he sees matches play out, the way he comes up with things, especially in tag matches and stuff like that. Christian’s a guy who I’ve only had a small sampling of working with. Christian’s a guy I want to spend a lot more time in the ring with.

It’s awesome working with RVD, too. I’m a big ECW fan, so I got to work with him on a loop in California, and he’s cool. He’s friggin’ RVD. He’s got all the RVD spots and he’s ageless and stuff. There’s just countless guys that you want to work with for one reason or the other. I’m looking forward to diving headfirst into all of them.

Live Report From NXT: Fans Hijack Tapings With CM Punk Chants, Signs Confiscated

    76

SEScoops.com reader Jed Ebersole was at Thursday night’s WWE NXT tapings from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida. The show went off the rails almost immediately, with the crowd chanting for CM Punk and security confiscating signs from fans. Here’s his report:

“The show started fine [before the tapings began] , then about 2 matches in security confiscated a sign about ratings dropping. The crowd was wondering what was going on. So I got pissed and stood up with my “I’m a CM Punk Guy” sign and started a CM punk chant towards the staff.

The crowd went nuts and then they came and told me to hand over the sign or be ejected. I let them take it. We proceeded to then try to hijack every match with CM Punk chants. In the beginning a lady from management told me to stop and pulled me out of the arena. I went with her and went toe to toe about us fans being able to chant what ever we want. I asked to speak with someone higher and she wouldn’t let me. She told me again to stop and return to my seat. I told her that won’t happen and went back to my seat.

From there word spread that they were trying to get us out, but about 30 or more of us just kept going. We did our best to hijack everything. We are fed up and now we are the voice of the voiceless!”

It will be interesting to say the least when WWE tapes RAW from Punk’s home town of Chicago on March 3rd.

Jim Ross Blogs About CM Punk Leaving WWE

    28

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what he said about the CM Punk situation:

Is Punk’s WWE Departure Surprising? “Was it really unexpected? Likely not. Punk has not been a happy camper within WWE for quite some time. That point has been made abundantly clear on many occasions. He’s tired, he’s beat up, and he’s not enjoying himself at work … Punk is mentally and physically burned out and he’s not having enough professional fulfillment to work through his issues. He needs a break.”

Some Fans Thinking It Is Just A Storyline: “No, I don’t think this is an elaborate, TV storyline but instead it’s all about a highly motivated, talented wrestler who, at times, feeds off the chip on his shoulder, which is not a bad thing, who has hit the wall and isn’t enjoying what once was his primary professional focus….dare say his life. ”

Will Punk Ever Return? “I do not think that Punk has wrestled his last match in WWE. I do feel that it’s best for all involved for Punk to take much needed time off even if it means that he misses a WrestleMania.”

“CM Punk has been good for WWE. WWE has been good for CM Punk. I’m hopeful that they will resolve their issues and be good together once again in the future. Hopefully, the lines of communications, to whatever degree that can be maintained will remain open. If so, then this matter has a much better chance of being rectified.”
