Darren Young Says He Was “Terrified” To Come Out As Gay, Wanted To Take Boyfriend To WWE Events

14

As disclosed Wednesday, Darren Young opens up to People in the Oct. 14 issue about his sexuality. Quotes from the article have surfaced online and it is revealed that the WWE Superstar was terrified to come out of the closet.

“I was terrified of losing friends, losing my job, just everything,” Young said. “I had no idea what would happen if I came out.”

Young’s decision to come out was not an easy one. Family and close friends found out two years ago while he was competing on WWE NXT, but he continued to live a troubling “double life.”

Young explained that he was “tired of hiding” and that he “wanted to be able to take [boyfriend of two years Niccolo ‘Nick’ Villa] with me to WWE functions.” He also wanted to be able to go out to dinner without looking over his shoulder, hold hands in public, and do other things heterosexual couples do without hesitation.

Young, who’s real name is Fredrick Douglas Rosser III, went public on Aug. 15 in an impromptu airport interview with a TMZ cameraman. The WWE Superstar, however, immediately second-guessed the decision.

“It was spur of the moment, and I said what I said and I was confident. But when I left, I said to myself, “What the hell did I just do?” Young said. “I went straight to my hotel room and I was sick as a dog, throwing up and crying. I was terrified of how people would perceive me.”

Despite his fears, Young was greeted with support by not only the sports-entertainment organization’s management and fans, but his colleagues as well.

“His sexual orientation never had anything to do with him as a person, and at the end of the day it shouldn’t matter,” said tag team partner Titus O’Nell.

“They all embraced me, and that was just shocking to me. I truly love them,” Young said. “It was such a relief. I’m not hiding anymore and I’m living the dream.”

The issue officially hits newsstands on Friday. Click here for additional details.

Maria Kanellis Says She’s Not A Failure After Leaving WWE, Latest From Trish Stratus

12

– Maria Kanellis has published an article on Diva-Dirt.com addressing the topic of life after WWE.

In the article, Kanellis responds to critics who associate her with failure since she has not appeared on national television in over four years. The former Playboy says she is content with current situation.

“I’m now happy to be moving forward with my life but I feel as if WWE fans aren’t ready for me to do so. They want to hear more about the Bella twins debacle. They want me to insult the girls that are on Total Divas. But, the truth is I have a lot more on my plate that what those chicks are up to or the happenings at WWE. Also, I don’t stay angry for that long. It’s bad karma and there are too many beautiful, positive people in my life to worry about the people that hurt me,” wrote Kanellis.

“I don’t know what the answer is to make people understand my main goal in life has nothing to do with twins or to make people understand LIFE is good even without WWE. I will tell you this: when fans tell me I failed, it saddens me. I am sure that so many former WWE wrestlers feel this exact way. Because our lives aren’t over. I’m not dead. And I most certainly am not a failure. What is so great about WWE? The fame? The money? Or the traveling around the world? I guess all of it is great but to me it was just five and a half years. To me it was not the greatest or the worst experience in my life. I’ve lived for 25 and a half years without WWE and I would like to live at least 70 more. So, in the grand scheme of things my time at WWE is just a fabliau in my life and to ruminate on it is to live in verisimilitude.”

– Former WWE Women’s Champion Trish Stratus and her husband Ron welcomed their son Maximus into the world on Monday—he was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, at a weight of 8 pounds, 3 ounces. The 37-year-old released a message on Twitter on Thursday thanking friends and fans for their support.

“Yesterday was an amazing first day at home w/ our new little guy. I can’t even begin to describe how much love my heart is filled w/ for Max,” wrote Stratus on Thursday morning. “And thank u to everyone for all the wishes for us, it’s been overwhelming to see the love from you guys. So much love for Max! #babystratus.”

Update On TNA’s Future, Kurt Angle’s Status For Bound For Glory

22

– As of this writing, returning TNA star Kurt Angle is not scheduled to wrestle at Bound For Glory later this month. Angle will still be at the event, as he’s being inducted into TNA’s Hall of Fame that weekend.

– Regarding the future of TNA, the outlook is mixed. While the general feeling is that TNA will continue to exist through 2014 because Spike TV does not want to lose one of their top shows.

There remains a strong possibility that the Carter family will sell the struggling promotion over the next 12 months. In the event that TNA is in fact sold, the company would likely undergo a major transformation.

The 42-year-old labels WWE’s version of extreme as “Disney,” and that it’s not ECW. Matt Hardy has responded to Anderson with the following:

This match will be one of two matches held on Oct. 12 as part of the OMEGA Championship Tournament. Click here for event details.

– Luke Gallows is heading to Japan to wrestle for Pro Wrestling NOAH. He last appeared for TNA Wrestling as a member of Aces and Eights before parting ways with the organization in July.

TNA Impact Wrestling Preview: Hogan’s Final TNA Appearance?

3

The following is a preview for tonight’s episode of Impact Wrestling.

* Hulk Hogan confronts Dixie Carter and reveals whether he is “Team Dixie” or not.

* TNA World Champion Bully Ray vs. Samoa Joe.

* Chris Sabin & Kenny King vs. Jeff Hardy & Manik

* 3-Way Knockouts Match: Brooke Tessmacher vs. Velvet Sky vs. Lei’D Tapa.

* Magnus runs the Gauntlet.

Also appearing are Sting, AJ Styles, Robert Roode, Daniels and Kazarian.

(Spoilers) TNA Impact Wrestling Results For 10/3

12

The following are spoiler results for the Thursday, October 3rd edition of TNA Impact Wrestling which was taped on Thursday, September 26th from Little Rock, Arkansas.

-Jeff Hardy & Manik def. Kenny King & Chris Sabin. King bled a lot, legitimately, as he did “last week” on Impact (which was the show prior to these tapings on Sept. 27th). The finish in this one came when Hardy hit King with the Swanton for the 1-2-3.

-Austin Aries came out and issued a challenge for a Four-Way Match at the Bound For Glory pay-per-view with himself against Chris Sabin, Manik and Jeff Hardy. Hardy then said that it should be an Ultimate X match for the X-Division Title.

-Velvet Sky vs. Brooke Tessmacher was scheduled to happen next, but never actually got underway. The winner was supposed to get a shot at ODB for the TNA Knockouts Title, but Lei’D Tapa ended up attacking both Sky and Tessmacher.

-A.J. Styles came out and did an interview. He said he appreciated what Hulk Hogan tried doing for him, but Dixie Carter showed her true colors. He talks about not having a title shot in over a year. Bully Ray comes out and basically tells Styles he can’t win because Dixie Carter is in his head.

-Magnus vs. The E.G.O. faction in a Gauntlet Match was next. Magnus defeated Christopher Daniels, who was first up, after hitting him with the Falcon Arrow. Next up was Magnus against Kazarian. Magnus won that one as well via the Camel Clutch. Finally, Magnus took on Bobby Roode. Roode ended up beating Magnus with the Ankle Lock.

-Sting comes out and he and Magnus get into an argument. Magnus was throwing a fit and Sting told him to go to the back where they can talk things out. Magnus refused. Magnus talked about quitting because this is a results-driven business, and he’s not giving the results. This led to an announced Sting vs. Magnus match, with Sting pointing out that he was put on the map in one single match against Ric Flair (WCW Clash Of The Champions).

-Samoa Joe def. Bully Ray via Disqualification. The finish here came when Joe put the choke on Ray and he tapped out, but the referee never saw it because he was down. Ray then hit Joe with his chain but the referee ended up seeing that and called for the bell, which prompted the DQ finish. Ray was about to give Joe the piledriver on the floor but Styles ended up coming out to make the save.

-Dixie Carter and Hulk Hogan were the main event segment on the show. Carter asked Hogan if he was going to be behind her, ala the ultimatim she had given him “last week.” Hogan said it was a great offer for somebody else, but not him. Hogan says he’s quitting the company. Carter ended up getting on her knees, grabbed Hogan around the legs, and begged him not to leave the ring. Dixie continued to freak out over the fact that Hogan had quit as the show goes off the air.

Saturday Morning Slam Unlikely To Return, Daniel Bryan & Brie Bella’s Relationship, John Morrison

13

– It would appear that WWE’s kid-friendly program, Saturday Morning Slam, is through as it is no longer listed as an active show on the company website and the new television season has begun without it airing.

According to this week’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there are rumors of creative differences between CW executives and WWE officials as executives at the network apparently wanted WWE to alter the program’s format from taped matches to a news magazine—similar to NBA Inside Stuff—negotiations fell apart from there. For the time being, it’s a subject that nobody is officially discussing.

The show is rated TV-G (one level lower than WWE’s general TV-PG rating), and due to being aimed specifically at children, it does not feature any moves or holds aimed at the head or neck due to what is seen as their violent nature.

– The official WWE website has issued a poll asking fans whether Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella should have kept quiet about their relationship. With over 11,000 votes cast, 66% say “No. They have nothing to hide and being open and honest about their relationship is the best policy.” The other option is “Yes. Revealing their engagement and being part of “Total Divas” is just one big distraction to their in-ring careers.”

– Celebrating birthdays Thursday are WWE Hall of Famer “Bullet” Bob Armstrong (74), John Morrison (34), Danny Basham (36) and Mikey Batts (30).

Update On Vince McMahon’s Return To Television, “John Cena’s Fast Lane” Contest, Battleground

15

– With Monday’s Raw drawing one of its worst ratings figures in the last fifteen years (a 2.68 cable rating, with an average of 3.58 million viewers over the course of the show), there are people within WWE speculating that Vince McMahon will resurface on television sooner rather than later. Original creative plans call for the Chairman to return sometime in November.

Who Was Behind The Ryback/Paul Heyman ‘Proposal’ Angle?, Masked Men In Wrestling History, More

22

– On Monday’s Raw, it was teased that Paul Heyman wanted to marry Ryback after being “saved” by the former Skip Sheffield at Night of Champions. Instead, Heyman proposed that he become the latest “Paul Heyman Guy.” Vince McMahon was behind a shock tactic taking place on the program, as he made it clear to members of the writing staff that they feature “a spectacle” to lure viewers of ESPN’s Monday Night Football away during halftime. An unnamed creative writer then pitched the idea of teasing Heyman asking Ryback his hand in marriage.

– On the heels of Monday’s debut of Los Matadores, the official website of WWE has published a photo gallery highlighting the numerous masked individuals in the history of professional wrestling. A wide range of masked wrestlers are showcased, including Rey Mysterio, Mr. America, Sin Cara, Aldo Montoya, Blitzkrieg, Golga, The Midnight Rider, and Konnan as Max Moon.

– In recent WWE attendance figures: Sept. 27 in Denver, Colorado, drew 5,500; Sept. 28 in Dallas, Texas, drew 9,000; Sept. 28 in Huntsville, Alabama drew 4,000; Sept. 29 in New Orleans, Louisiana, drew 5,000.

– On Monday’s edition of TMZ on TV, wrestling fanatic Ryan Satin donned an “Employ Joey Ryan 2013” T-Shirt. This led to a debate over who is a bigger celebrity, Paris Hilton or Hulk Hogan.

Promoting Saturday’s WWE live event in Rochester, New York, at Blue Cross Arena, Brie Bella spoke to area newspaper Democrat and Chronicle. The former Divas Champion says she plans to enjoy her last few years with the sports-entertainment organization before shifting her focus to raising children.

“I’m Mexican and Italian. I want to raise my babies, I want to be home with them every day. And I’m excited for when that chapter in my life happens,” she said.

Bella, who became engaged to fellow WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan during a hike in Big Sur, California, last week, says always she looks forward to traveling to matches with her fiancé since they often create “little adventures” on the road.

“I’m a typical girl,” says Bella. “I’m such a Cathy Chatters. We’ll have a five-hour drive and I’m like ‘Yes! Him alone in a car — I can just express everything and talk to him.’ And I’m sure he’s like ‘Oh gosh, music!'”

Bella, who has appeared for WWE since 2008, says she enjoys the creativity she can bring to the ring.

“Every time you go out into the ring, you’re doing something different or figuring something out with your character or seeing how you can change a crowd. I think it’s just keeping your creative mind going that keeps me from getting burned out,” says Bella.

When Bella decides to hang up the boots, she will look back at her time with WWE fondly.

“Succeeding in this sport has been so empowering,” says Bella. “It just gives a lot of fuel to your inner fire and makes you feel kind of unstoppable. At first it can be intimidating, but the drive that I got from my intimidation just created this really powerful woman inside of me.”

Austin Aries On Whether TNA’s Buzz Has Faded, Locker Room Turnover, Christy Hemme Incident & More

6

Promoting Bound For Glory, Austin Aries appeared as a guest on Busted Open Radio, hosted by Doug Mortman and Dave LaGreca (Busted Open Radio airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sirius 94 and XM 208), where he discussed a number of TNA-related topics. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

Difference a year makes: “It kind of just snowballed. I was given opportunities obviously I felt I took advantage of them. The people with the company agreed with me and I kept getting bigger opportunities which obviously cumulated in Bound for Glory with Jeff Hardy and winning the World Heavyweight Championship. Before that I was excited for the momentum I had and for whatever reason it came to a halt and now I’m trying to rebuild that and I think I’m slowly doing that and hopefully in a year from now, we are talking about me in the main event at Bound for Glory once again as World Heavyweight Champion.”

The buzz behind TNA fading: “I know why it’s gone and I’ll keep that to myself. I don’t control those decisions, all I can control is what’s in front of me and I feel whatever you put on my tee, I’m going to knock out of the park. I’ve always felt that way and the decisions that are made and what’s going to happen creatively that’s above my pay grade as they say and quite frankly, it’s not something that I want to stress myself out too much because I’m a passionate guy, I’m an opinionated guy. I love the industry and I’ve followed it ever since I can remember and I got to control the things that I can control and that’s usually with a microphone in my hand and when I step in between the ropes.”

Turnover in the TNA locker room: “You look at it two ways. Some people look at the turnover and the releases and they put a negative connotation on it but I think in any business and especially in the sports world, you need to keep that middle ground fresh and in wrestling, it’s the same way. You give guys opportunities , some guys run with the brass ring and some don’t but you can’t stagnant with that, you need turnover because it keeps that fire lit under everybody, keeps everyone performing to the best of their abilities, no one gets comfortable, you don’t want anybody getting comfortable and going to work and collecting a paycheck. You want to keep people on their toes and I don’t think the turnover is a bad thing. It gives new guys opportunities, it keeps fresh faces for the fans and they don’t get sick with the same old, same old and that’s a successful recipe for any business.”

The feeling in the TNA locker room: “I think it’s the same as it’s always been. I’m sure it’s like here when you guys come in and you got a great feeling in things and other weeks, your down about this, that and the other but overall, I haven’t seen a huge change in the locker room. I think we all understand what the company is structured like, why things happen and again, I think a lot of the guys take the same approach I do on let’s focus on what we can do and make the best of what we are given.”

Being a leader, professional, company guy and helping the X-Division: “I wouldn’t define and say I’m back in the X-Division per say. Right now, I started a little something with Chris Sabin and interjected with him, a little banter back and forth and we will see where that progresses to. I do think I have always been a company guy and I think that my passion and outspokenness can be misconstrued. I never been a selfish performer, I’m always coming up with the best ideas for the company to succeed. It’s never really been about myself and I’ve always prided myself on where ever you need to slot me in on the card, I can do that. If you need me to get the card off on a good start, I can do that. Opening the night out, I can do that. You need to give me a thirty minute, main event caliber match, I can do that. You need to put me in the tag (team) division, I can do that. You need me to go into the X-Division, I can do that. I think that was something that was important to me since I broke in; I never wanted to be pigeon holed as just this and just that. I want to be well-rounded and versatile as I can because that just means you are much more valuable to whatever company you work for.”

Bring reality to wrestling: “I’ve always said that the best pro wrestling is from when you pull from reality the most you can. The more authentic you can make it, the more tied to reality it is, the more people grab on to it. I think that’s the reason why people have gravitated to my character over the years, there’s an authenticity to it. I’m not putting too much of an act, I might be turning up the dial one way or the other but I am who I am and that comes out in my character when I’m on screen. As the fans get smarter or think they are getting smarter, we have to find ways to keep them on their toes, off balance and keep them guessing because that’s the name of the game and that’s where the drama comes in.”

Crowd reaction during Bound for Glory: “Absolutely not! I told the powers to be that’s exactly how it would be whether or not I kicked Jeff Hardy in the balls a week before, they disagreed with me and well, I was right and they were wrong and I have a job there and they don’t. Something too that I didn’t make public at the time was for about four or five months before that and year after that I was dealing with an annular tear in my lower back and a bulge in the herniated disc in my back so I was battling through a lot of injuries so from a personal standpoint, I was taking a lot of pride in my performance cause the pain I was dealing with to perform at that level but when you have those limitations and create that kind of atmosphere and put on that performance, its satisfying and that’s not to say that we all don’t do it at some point in our careers, Jeff (Hardy) has done it at some point of his career, he’ll do it again, I’ll do it again, it’s part of the game. I think one place where wrestling is progressing and needs to progress is that in life, there is not clear cut bad guys and good guys . Everybody is a shade of gray and we can talk about “Sons of Anarchy”, well whose a good guy and whose a bad guy , it’s a shade of gray and I think as long as you have strong, authentic characters people are going to gravitate to the characters that they can relate to and Jeff Hardy is a strong, authentic character and he’s got his fan base and they are very loyal to him and I think I am the same way and I was trying to express that you can’t just change that overnight. People that have followed me over a long time , they feel a passion and a loyalty to me and my character and the same way with Jeff (Hardy)and why turn one whole side against the other, it’s just not going to happen. It’s better off just playing against each other and everything is a shade of gray. Sometimes you wake up and you’re a better person then others, some days you’re in an ornery mood, you walk around with piss and vinegar, and other days you’re in a great mood. I think wrestling should dictate real life and that’s how it is. It’s also who I am interacting with because there are guys like Jeff Hardy, he is universally loved and he is one of the last true good guy and baby face who the people just take to. When I interact with him, it might seem like I’m being more of a dick for lack of a better term. If I’m dealing with Bobby Roode, who is kind of a dick himself, now they are looking at me and saying: “Maybe I like this Aries guy a little more” and that’s where the dynamics of the characters coming in. That’s why when you have strong, authentic characters , it’s how the characters and the dynamics of those different characters and not everybody is going to be playing the same role or being taken the same way every time. Every time I have got in to the ring with Jeff (Hardy ), I’ve always enjoyed it. He’s so unique, one of a kind, we meshed together well and our chemistry just happened to click. To be quite honest, our styles out of the ring, I think we are a like-minded then people realize as far as articulacy and mindset. I’m a little out there; I view the world in a whole different shade then most people.”

The possibility of Hulk Hogan and AJ Styles leaving TNA: “The tight knit group of wrestling fans that know the information, it might get them excited because they actually know it’s behind the scenes legitimate. I think to the casual fans, it’s lost to them because they do not follow it that closely and that’s not why they watch the product necessarily. The thing that we all have to be mindful with the performers that are out there, we don’t want to be too smart for our audience. We are a lot more plugged in and tuned to those behind the scene things but the vast majority of them are not. Sometime we can outsmart ourselves with the things that we can do out there.”

The Bound for Glory series taking away from feuds: “It didn’t turn out good because I didn’t win it. I think the concept has a lot of potential. The Bound for Glory series could provide match ups that you wouldn’t normally see because its guys who would never be feuding and I think for me; it gets drawn out a little too long and also can be streamlined. This is a personal preference if you are going to put up twenty points for some battle royal match or gauntlet match, it defeats the purpose because these should be one-on-one singles matches with a fifteen minute time limits because that’s what this is about. I’m not going to challenge for the World’s Heavyweight Championship in a battle royal and in some ways, it cheats the fans because for those fans who were really invested in it and they thought that this was the last night to see who advances now: “Oh hey, next week we are going to throw another gauntlet match for twenty points”, it’s kind of insult and I can understand as a fan, why at the time, I would tune out. I think it has a lot of potential but I understand there are a lot of moving parts and a lot of factors behind the scenes that had to be changed or maneuvered around and that’s the part that the fans do not understand. The necessities of the life that need to be done and if I was in the position to give suggestions , I think I would bring the competitors down to eight, shorten it up and put a real importance on it and maybe a couple Impacts would be strictly Bound for Glory series matches that night. Maybe once a month it would be nothing but Bound for Glory series matches or the other thing that I heard thrown out there which is a good suggestion is make it more of a tournament style because people can follow tournaments and that’s an easy concept to understand and I think the points can’t get confusing. “Its this amount of points for a victory but for a submission it’s this amount of points but if he’s disqualified, it is this.” To the casual fan who is not that invested in this, it might go over their heads. I think the concept is great, it has a lot of potential and I think it’s a work in progress and every year, we are trying to make it better and listen to all suggestions and hope to progress on it. You want to keep away from the “Team Challenge Series” as much as possible.”

The success of the past Ring of Honor stars: “I’ve said this for a long time that if you were able to succeed in Ring of Honor like CM Punk and Daniel Bryan and myself were all able to do and you learn how to get over no matter where you are, WWE is just another place where you can get over. It’s really that simple. Talent is talent and understanding the business and understanding what you need to do to have the people connect with you. That’s not something that you can necessarily teach. That’s something that you have or that you don’t and all of those guys have it and they had it back then and they will have it in ten years. That’s why you can’t judge a professional wrestler with a tape measure, it doesn’t work that way. I’ve been judged that way before and I’m sure I will again and those people all failed in their assessments of my talent and I’ll prove that every time I step out there.”

TNA’s fan base being as rabid as ROH’s fan base: “I don’t know if that’s a successful direction to go, if it was then Ring of Honor would be in a lot better position than it is now. Reality is and the listeners do not like to hear this but the hardcore, tight knit wrestling community is just a small overall percentage piece of the pie and if you cater to that small slice, you’re missing out on the rest of the pie. I think the idea is to keep them invested and if you can get a buzz with that core of the fan base, it will resonant to the common fan. They are a very important part of our fan base, they are always going to be there, that’s really the backbone but you need to use them to help excite the common fans and you can’t cater to them because you’re probably going to lose a lot of the other people out there. It’s a slippery slope and you want to include as many people as you can in the entertainment value and for some people, its judging matches, star ratings, false finishes and all these kind of things and for other people it’s something completely different and we need to keep that in mind.”

Christy Hemme situation: “That’s a difficult situation. I’m not going to say a whole lot about it but it was an unfortunate event. I’ll just say I was disappointed in the way things were handled in multiple levels and I think I will leave it at that for now.”

Will TNA still be on the road a year from now?: “I don’t know. I’m not in those meetings and I don’t make those decisions. I hope they are. I don’t make those financial logistics of it. I think there are things that we can definitely do that would help us be successful while on the road as far as promoting and advertising. I think there are things that we dropped on the ball on but again, I don’t get paid to make those decisions. If I did, I think we would be in a little bit of a better position right now.”

ir?t=se0e6 20&l=as2&o=1&a=1626361398WWE Hall of Famer Jesse Ventura’s new book “They Killed Our President: 63 Reasons to Believe There Was a Conspiracy to Assassinate JFK” was officially released on Tuesday. The former Navy SEAL, pro wrestler, actor and governor will be on Howard Stern’s satellite radio show this morning to promote the book.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“Read all the evidence from the biggest conspiracy in American history!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past fifty years, you’re aware of the many hypotheses that the assassination of President John F. Kennedy was not done by one man. Whether you’ve read one or a dozen of the books on this topic, there’s no way to fully grasp the depth of this conspiracy.

For the first time ever, New York Times bestselling authors Jesse Ventura and Dick Russell have teamed up with some of the most respected and influential assassination researchers to put together the ultimate compendium that covers every angle—from the plot to the murder—of JFK. They Killed Our President will not only discuss the most famous of theories, but will also bring to light new and recently discovered information, which together shows that the United States government not only was behind this egregious plot, but took every step to make sure that the truth would not come out.

With 2013 marking the fiftieth anniversary of JFK’s assassination, this is the perfect time for They Killed Our President to be available to readers. The research and information in this book are unprecedented, and there’s nobody better to bring this to everyone’s attention than the former governor of Minnesota and US Navy SEAL, Jesse Ventura.”
