Sting was written out of TNA storylines at Thursday night’s TNA Genesis Week 2 tapings, airing next Thursday, January 23rd on Spike TV.

*Spoilers* TNA Genesis Tapings Results For 1/23

Sting faced Magnus in a high-stakes match for the TNA World Championship. The stipulation was Sting got one more title shot if he put his TNA career on the line.

With a lot of interference, Magnus got the win and retained his title. After the match, Magnus tore up Sting’s TNA contract, effectively writing him off television.

As reported earlier this week, Sting has actually been working for TNA without a contract – and has been in talks with WWE regarding a match at WrestleMania XXX.

Report: Hulk Hogan Says He Will Be At WrestleMania

53

WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan says he will be at WrestleMania XXX on April 6th and will be “working” at the event, according to a report at WrestlingINC.com.

Hogan attended this week’s Affiliate Summit West marketing conference from Las Vegas, Nevada to promote his Hostamania web hosting service.  The news comes from a fan who attended the summit and spoke to Hogan personally, so take that for what you will.

Big Update On Hulk Hogan’s WWE Negotiations

Sting In Talks With WWE, The Next NXT Stars To Get Called Up

50

– WWE is is currently in talks with Sting, who is not under contract with TNA. Sting has been working a lot of recent TNA live events in what could be part of a ‘farewell tour’ for the 15-time World Champion.

– The next talents from NXT who will be called up to the main roster are Women’s Champion Paige, Emma and Alexander Rusev (with Lana).

Paige is currently out of action due to injury and did not appear at the most recent NXT tapings. The soonest we could see her back in the ring on NXT TV is the live WWE Network special on February 27th. Emma made her WWE television debut on this week’s RAW, where she was spotted in the crowd and was acknowledged on commentary. Rusev has been impressing WWE officials while working dark matches and live events.

Big Update On Hulk Hogan’s WWE Status

55

Hulk Hogan reached a verbal agreement with WWE this past week, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The latest is that Hogan will not be wrestling at WrestleMania XXX and most likely would not pass a WWE physical. That said, he will have some sort of role at the WWE Hall of Fame and WrestleMania XXX. WWE has been talking about inducting the WrestleMania 1 main event (Hogan & Mr. T vs. Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorf) into the Hall of Fame, with all 4 men being on hand for the ceremony.

As reported earlier this week, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper has been pushing for a match at WrestleMania that would pit himself & CM Punk vs. Hulk Hogan & John Cena. Piper put Punk over during Old School RAW and tried convincing Punk to get on board for the idea, but it wont be happening, for a variety of reasons.

At one point there was talk of Hulk Hogan appearing at the ‘groundbreaking’ WWE Network announcement, but the company did not want Hogan’s return to distract from the Network announcement. The decision was made to hold off on his return, which will help pop a big TV rating as WWE is negotiating their TV rights fees.

WWE Network News: Libraries Of Past Promotions, What’s Being Edited & More

15

– With over 1,500 hours of archived WWE content being available when the WWE Network launches on 2/24, this represents only about 1.5% of the entire WWE library.

The company owns the tape libraries of over a dozen promotions (AWA, Georgia Championship Wrestling, Memphis, OVW, Deep South, World Class, Smoky Mountain, Stampede, among others) and that content will be rolled out on a weekly basis. They will also occasionally remove content, so it’s unlikely the entire catalog will be available at any one time.

– WWE will be airing a lot of footage from past events that had been previously edited out of DVD releases. Events featuring commentary by Jesse Ventura (royalty issues), ring announcing by Gary Michael Cappetta (legal reasons) and Chris Benoit (with a disclaimer) will all appear on the Network.

– Music is a more of a difficult issue. WWE executive Perkins Miller has said this will be handled on a case-by-case basis, but a lot of 80’s wrestling and ECW shows used mainstream hit songs, which could result in additional royalties being paid out to the artists.

Backstage News On Batista & Ultimate Warrior’s WWE Deals

32

– “The Animal” Batista’s return to WWE television on Monday’s RAW has been several months in the making. Triple H and Batista began negotiating back in September, with both sides coming to an agreement around October. He’ll be working a close-to-fulltime schedule (including house shows), taking time off when needed to promote his movie projects.

– The deal to bring The Ultimate Warrior back into the company for a WWE Hall Of Fame induction was reportedly finalized a week before Christmas. The deal was brokered by 2K Sports, who worked with Warrior directly on the WWE 2K14 video game. As previously reported, Warrior dealt directly with Vince McMahon and had no interaction with Triple H. Warrior apparently wanted an apology for the 20045 “Self Destruction” DVD and is getting a proper DVD release on his WWE career that will be released the Tuesday before his Hall oof Fame induction and WresteMania XXX.

As for Warrior’s Hall of Fame inductee, both Vince McMahon and Hulk Hogan are rumored to be doing the honors. Considering how much leverage Warrior had during the negotiations, it seems unlikely that he’d sign off on Hogan inducting him, so Vince appears to be the frontrunner. Warrior’s well-documented unpredictability and what he’ll say during his speech is one of the main selling points for this year’s ceremony. This was referenced by JBL several times on Monday’s RAW and was acknowledged by Warrior himself this week on Twitter.

Update On Goldberg vs. Ryback At WMXXX, PTP TV On The WWE Network?

32

– According to reports, the match WWE hoped to schedule between Goldberg and Ryback for WrestleMania XXX is said to be close to dead due to the fact that both WWE and Goldberg are far apart on the financial side of the potential agreement. However, one WWE source noted that the company hasn’t quite ruled out the possibility of a Goldberg vs. Ryback match just yet.

– As previously reported, WWE Superstar Titus O’Neil posted a tweet on his official Twitter account expressing some excitement over good news he received regarding the WWE Network. O’Neil’s tag-team partner, Darren Young, recently posted the following update on his official Twitter account:

Ryback Backs Out Of Arm-Wrestling Challenge, WMXXX Ticket Sale Update

5

– JBL recently referenced a story during commentary on WWE television regarding an arm-wrestling challenge between Ryback and Titus O’Neil. According to reports, O’Neil challenged Ryback to an arm-wrestling match, but Ryback didn’t accept. The idea was for the two to compete in an arm-wrestling match for money, with the loser donating to charity.

– According to the latest estimates, WWE has sold approximately 55,000 tickets for WrestleMania XXX, which is considered very good at this point. The legitimate capacity for the set-up they will be using in the arena is 70,000, although WWE will likely claim a figure of 82,000 or more. The current attendance record in the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans, the site of WrestleMania XXX, is 87,500 for a Rolling Stones cocert in 1981.

  • Jim Ross Blog: Thoughts & Memories Of The Late Mae Young

    2

The following is an excerpt from a new Jim Ross blog where he posts his thoughts and memories of the late Mae Young:

“Thanks for stopping by on such a melancholy day. Please proceed as I remember the late, Mae Young.

Johnnie Mae Young was born in born in Sand Springs, Oklahoma on March 12, 1923 and she passed away at the age of 90 on January 14, 2014.

To say that Mae was a pioneer might be an understatement. She always defied the odds and the societal stereotyping that many women could not escape.

To think that a 15 year old high school student would be so bold as to travel to downtown Tulsa from the Sand Springs suburb that she lived to challenge the best women’s wrestler in the world to a legit, wrestling match is incredible.

    It was, at worst, ‘great.’

That’s the day that the “The Great” Mae Young found her true calling in life.

  • Mick Foley Blogs About His WWE Contract Status

    0

WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley recently posted the following blog on his official Facebook page:

    A GOOD TALK IN CONNECTICUT

Yes, it looks like I will be sticking around a while. It’s probably foolish for me to even think about leaving WWE, especially knowing that whether I’m officially with them or not, they are always going to be part of me. I tried, really tried to distance myself from WWE a couple of times – at one point, I didn’t do anything at all with them gor over a year and a half (October 2001 – May 2003) and during all that time, in the hearts and minds of fans, I was still a WWE guy. Well, with the exception of one excited kid in New Hampshire who yelled out, “you’re the guy from Robot Wars” and a stunned UK memorabilia collector, who was overjoyed to meet his favorite novelist.

My official contract with WWE runs out soon, but we have mutually agreed to continue to work together on a case-by-case handshake deal – the same way I did some of my best work (remember the 2004 Randy Orton program) with WWE in the past. The only minor difference (other than not getting a weekly check…ouch) is that I will work prospective WWE dates and projects around my schedule, instead of working my schedule around prospective dates. With the success of my live shows (thanks everyone) I needed more flexability in my schedule. But WWE has shown some interest in partnering with me on these live shows in the future, and a WWE produced, first-class, multi-media one-man Mick Foley show has always been my long-term goal. As WWE showed with the roll-out of the new network, when they go into something, they go ALL in – and I’m crossing my fingers, hoping they’ll go ALL in on a fall 2014 15th anniversery “HAVE A NICE DAY” production – even if it’s just for a limited run.

Besides, the second issue of my WWE comic just came out, and Wrestlemania is just around the corner. My kids LOVE WWE, and the prospect of their being part of Mania, without Dad being part of WWE was a downer. They have great seats for the big show – Santa Dad sprung for the good seats (no more watching the show on a TV monitor in a crowded “Friends and Family” suite, 100 yards from the action, overlooking a parking lot for my gang) Besides, do you have any idea how expensive hotel rooms are in New Orleans on Mania weekend? Put my room on Uncle Vinnie’s tab, please.

  • Gunner Speaks On AJ Styles & Jeff Jarrett Leaving TNA, Hulk Hogan, Dixie Carter

    5

The following are highlights of a recent interview with TNA star Gunner:

On having a tryout in front of Hulk Hogan: “I was aware that I was being watched. When I got that dark match, D-Lo said Dixie’s watching, & Hulk’s watching. Here is your opportunity so don’t go out there and screw it up. I’ve always worked well under pressure and I think being in The Marine Corps helps you in dealing with a lot of pressure. It was my opportunity and I was either going to go out there and shine or I was going to burn. Hulk gave me a lot of compliments, not only for my dark match, but throughout the time he was there. He seemed to enjoy a lot of my character, so that meant a lot.

On TNA being on the road versus the Impact Zone: “There are pros & cons to both. Being on the road was great because you get to see different towns and different wrestling fans. The Impact Zone has the same people there usually every week or every month, which is not bad, but then again it’s really nice to get in front of say like, a southern crowd like we will in Alabama for Genesis. It’ll obviously be a hot crowd. But it’s good to be back in the Impact Zone. We have a home base and we know the crowd will be pretty lively.

On AJ Styles leaving TNA: “Superstars leave promotions all the time. It doesn’t mean he (AJ) won’t be back. He may have some things going on that he wants to take care of first. All it is, is giving somebody like me the open door to be the new poster child for the company.

On the state of TNA: “I honestly believe that all is well. It seems that theres’ things going on in WWE that the internet doesn’t hit on. It seems that because we are a younger company, I feel like we are the ones that get hit on so much. I don’t think personally anything is wrong with the company. We’re having more live events in 2014 than we did in 2013. We’re doing the UK tour which is a very huge tour for us plus the new TV deal we just signed in the UK and we’re still with Spike TV, so I don’t think anything’s wrong with the company. I honestly don’t see Impact going anywhere.

On TNA pushing but not committing to young stars: “I understand what you’re talking about and it already happened to me because in 2011 I was in the bound for glory series and I was hot being a singles guy, then I sat home for 8 months, and it wasn’t anything I did wrong, it was just a revamping of the character. There could be things going on behind the scenes that I don’t know about perhaps like somebody not getting along. It is known and it has been said, and Dixie has had conversations with us, and the new talent relations guy said 2014 is the year for the young guys to step up.”

On Jeff Jarrett leaving TNA: “That was kind of out of left field with a lot of us. On a personal level, Jeff helped me a lot also. He was always there for me to ask questions about promos or anything and as far as that, he’s a guy I consider a friend. And on a professional level, I don’t know why he left. Jeff Jarrett is a smart man. He’s a smart business man when it comes to wrestling. He’s been around it his whole life. I wish him luck and hope I get to work with him again someday because he’s always been there for me.”

On how hands-on Dixie Carter is with TNA creative: “When it comes to writing storylines, she doesn’t have any say so in that. She kind of lets the professionals do that. I don’t get to sit in on production meetings so I don’t know what goes on with that stuff. She does keep an eye on everybody and she does watch the show live when we do it. She’s right in front of the monitor in the back. She has input and it is valuable at times because she’s the owner of the company and you definitely want to hear what she has to say.”
