Dolph Ziggler Talks About His Quest For Greatness, His Size Working Against Him, Orton’s Push

8

WWE star Dolph Ziggler recently spoke to MLive.com to promote next week’s Night of Champions pay-per-view from Detroit, Michigan. Ziggler once again incorporated “shoot” elements into his interview, blurring the lines of what’s real and what’s part of the storyline.

The two-time World Heavyweight champion is known for giving 110% in the ring and putting his body on the line every single time he walks through the curtain. Ziggler says it’s part of his strategy to reach the top of the mountain, whether the powers that be believe in him or not:

“I’ve made it clear; I’m not patient at all – several times. I’ve been very vocal about my position on the card and in the company. I’m not trying to say ‘Hey, everybody sucks and I’m great!’ But I love doing this, and at some point you go ‘OK, It’s not my time right now and I got to figure something out’ And when it’s time, that’s when I must go out there and make as huge of an impact as I can and let everyone know ‘I dare you to follow that, I dare you try something better.’ And when they don’t, I’m very outspoken about it and it can get me into very hot water.”

One of the main arguments against pushing Dolph Ziggler as the face of the company is that he’s not tall enough. Ziggler has an answer for that critique – saying that he’d have no problem holding his own in a “back alley” with one of his taller co-workers:

“Everybody can be just so outspoken about taller guys, and guys like Randy Orton being the face of the WWE, the WWE Championship. I dare you to put me in a back alley with Randy Orton or someone like that. I guarantee I’m not afraid of someone taller.”

When talking about what drives him, Ziggler referenced “other companies” and UFC to make his point:

“I’m always trying to make myself a better sports entertainer. I’m always trying to find out why people cheer at certain times. I love this, I love doing this. I have no desire to switch companies or go to UFC or anything like that. As of right now, working on the entertainment aspect is my favorite thing to do, my favorite hobby right now.”

Finally, Ziggler expressed frustration with Randy Orton leapfrogging him and being given the top spot on WWE television:

“I’m very outspoken about where I should be and where I need to be in the WWE. I love that I’ve never been one handed anything – ever. If I would’ve have been handed things, I don’t know if I would’ve been able to enjoy it as much. Every time I turn a corner, it seems like the rug is being taken underneath me. It’s like ‘Hey, great job!’ and then nothing. It’s like ‘Hey, wow, look what you can do!’ and I’ll say ‘Thanks, boss!’ and then there’s nothing. And so, it’s hard (to stay upbeat), but you have to deal with it and it makes me hungrier every single day knowing that I’ve scratched and clawed for everything I’ve earned in this business.”

-WWE Superstar Dolph Ziggler recently spoke with MLive about maintaining and staying positive through the ups and downs of his pro wrestling career. Ziggler stated:

I’m very ambitious, and I’m very outspoken about where I should be and where I need to be in the WWE. I love that I’ve never been one handed anything – ever. If I would’ve have been handed things, I don’t know if I would’ve been able to enjoy it as much. Every time I turn a corner, it seems like the rug is being taken underneath me. Dixie Carter Speaks On Recent TNA Firings, Signing Too Many MMA Stars, Bully Ray

16

The following are highlights from TNA Impact Wrestling president Dixie Carter’s recent interview with The Ministry Of Slam:

On criticism over signing too many MMA fighters to TNA deals: “I’ve gotten criticism for bringing these guys in but when you’re looking for talent and there’s only two teams, where do you go to get your star players from? You’re going to mostly look to each other and then every once in a while, you’ve got to build your own talent which takes a lot of time.

So here are two guys that are major superstars. Both come from wrestling backgrounds, and both are training their butts off right now to be in the ring. I think it’s a great way of trying to find some superstar talent and not having to take so many years to try to grow somebody’s stardom. Both of these guys are so well-known and they love professional wrestling. They’re committed and they’re training, and I’m excited for people to see their potential. I think it’s a great way of looking for new talent, and talent that have never been seen before in our world.”

On recent TNA talent releases: “Well, I think the fact that you let talent go is not any indication whatsoever of any problems. I think part of our problem is that we didn’t turn the roster often enough. We only have one show so if we don’t have people on the show all the time. we are not in the position to have them sitting at home and being paid and not working. I think we have to get some more programming.

We have to be able to do that to where we can shift and make talent appear fresh, but going to another show versus sitting people at home. I think it’s been a long time coming. I know that our competitor lets people go constantly. We had not done it in a long time, and I think because we had not done it in a long time, that it raised some eyebrows.

It’s time for us to bring in some new faces, and we’ve got some exciting faces that will be appearing in the next several months. It’ll freshen things up somewhat. It’ll freshen up the people who are still on the roster and it’ll give the fans new and unique matches that they’ve never seen before. Like always, I’m sure some of the people that are no longer with us will return at some point – I’m hopeful for that. I think it’s a good healthy state of where we’re going and how we need to grow.”

On Bully Ray and the Aces & 8’s: “Bully Ray in my opinion has really stepped up and become a formidable singles champion. He’s done outstanding work. A lot of the young guys have come along under the Aces & Eights banner very quickly. I love the reformation of the Main Event Mafia; I love the younger members in there stepping up to represent our company. I think there’s going to be some interesting TV in the coming weeks.”

HHH then set up Daniel Bryan vs. Big Show for the main event. Fast forward the Shield triple powerbomb Bryan while Show watched. HHH then ordered Show to knock out Bryan, and after much deliberation he did. Fans reacted with a “you sold out” chant, and Show left with HHH, and Steph. RVD Talks About Backsage Morale In WWE, Why He Left In 2007

4

During a recent interview with SLAM! Wrestling, Rob Van Dam talked about backstage morale in WWE:

“The locker room is a different vibe, it’s a more positive vibe, guys are not afraid for their position like they used to be. At the end (of his first run with WWE) it was really miserable. Plus, I have more leverage now. I have more seniority with guys like Rock, Hogan, Flair, DX gone. It’s different how I’m being treated. I’m in a different point in my life. The traveling is not as hard as it was. I’m enjoying it now. We just had an 18-day tour and I was kind of apprehending that tour, but it wasn’t like that at all, it was a pleasure and I enjoyed it a lot.”

He also commented on why he left WWE back in 2007 and why he’s better equipped to cope with the WWE travel schedule:

“I left WWE because I needed more balance in my life, I needed to have my energies balanced and now was the time to come back. The schedule is not lighter. I’d say that it’s even more traveling than when I was here, but it’s not as challenging for me.”

Luger Says McMahon Has Offered Him A Helping Hand, Talks Elizabeth, Beating Hogan For WCW Title & More

6

Lex Luger appeared on Interactive Wrestling Radio where he discussed such topics as his shocking appearance on the debut edition of WCW Monday Nitro, defeating Hollywood Hogan for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, his brief stint in TNA Wrestling, his relationship with Sting, and the passing of Miss Elizabeth.

Contrary to popular belief, Luger and Vince McMahon are on good terms now. During the interview, Luger notably reveals that the WWE head has offered him assistance following his numerous battles in recent years. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

“THE TOTAL PACKAGE” LEX LUGER

Literally 18 years to the day after Lex Luger shocked the wrestling world and helped make the debut episode of WCW Nitro a success, we had occasion to sit down with the legendary former wrestling great. It was an amazing experience to speak with such an accomplished wrestling performer so candidly about his unique, often difficult journey through life over the past 10 years or so. From moment one, shooting the stuff about the upcoming football season, Luger seems happy for the first time in a long time and as a long-time fan and journalist, I can tell you that was a great thing to hear.

The interview, to promote his great new book called ‘Wrestling with the Devil”, discusses everything from career highlights to life lowlights and his finding of Jesus Christ. The book gives you such an amazing peak into the life of a wrestler who was amongst the absolute elite of our business and his rocky ride since his active wrestling career came to a close. I strongly suggest you picky it up. Tyndale, who also released NFL legend Tony Dungy’s book, did an amazing job piecing together a presentation in this book that both showcases Lex Luger’s wrestling career and, as it should be, his personal life. You can buy it now at book stores everywhere and at www.Amazon.com.

To listen to this interview, visit www.WrestlingEpicenter.com. It is available on YouTube, MP3, and on our Facebook page. It is 100% free. No registrations. Just come and listen! And, check out the store if you like what you hear to help us pay our expenses to keep it free!

On the release of his book: “So far, so good.” He had help writing the book and says that getting the right people to help him write the biography was why the release was pushed back a few times. He jokes that the delays were entirely on him but is thrilled to have it out now.

On Sting: “Still are best of friends…we talk all the time.” Luger says he was honored to speak for Sting during his TNA Hall of Fame induction and maintains a close friendship with Steve Borden to this very day. Sting also wrote the foreward to Luger’s autobiography which some, including James, say is worth the price of the book in and of itself as it is so well done.

On contacting WWE regarding possible use of pictures for the book: “I have a great relationship with them now.” Luger said that he could have gotten pictures from them for his book if he had asked, but the publishers opted to have personal pictures used instead. He feels it was the right move as the personal pictures make it a more personal feel rather than a career retrospective.

On his relationship with Vince McMahon: “I know he wants to come off as “Bad Boy Billionare” but he’s not,” said Luger. Luger elaborates saying that when he was down and out after wrestling with all the problems he faced, Vince always went out of his way to check in on him and offer help. He feels not enough people realize that Vince is a genuinely good person on top of business man. But, he says that is probably by Vince’s own design.

Comparing the WWF from the NWA/WCW he previously knew: “Vince is a creative genius,” says Luger. He puts over the great things he did in the NWA like being a member of the Horsemen but he loved the Narcissist character and felt it could have gone further. When he was approached about the “Yankee Doodle Dandy” patriotic gimmick later dubbed the “American Rebel” by Stan Lane on commentary, Luger says he remembers speaking to Vince about it and not being sure if it would work. Vince said, “When you step off that boat, you’re going to be a red, white, and blue hero.” He says he was right and it was an amazing run.

On jumping to WCW for the first Nitro: “It was huge! To have worked a WWF house show the night before and the following night be on Nitro?”, says Luger. James mentions, as is touched upon in the book, it was the start of the contractual system that we know today where every name has a no compete clause and a set deal.

On beating Hollywood Hulk Hogan for the WCW Title: “I didn’t know until I got to the ring!”, Luger says. Luger says that Hogan felt the WCW fans needed a positive as the nWo had been getting the better of them for so long. He was honored that he felt strongly enough to choose him to be the guy to capture the belt. “It was only a week, but it was huge!” He then jokes about the after match celebration and the Giant (Big Show) carrying him around like a little baby. James says it felt special because they stuck with the celebration. They then joke about how long it took to scrub off the nWo paint.

On Miss Elizabeth: “I had a very negative influence on her at the time.” He felt that he needed to acknowledge all his mistakes in the book in order to make it a complete and honest account of his life. He approached Elizabeth’s passing with honesty and acknowledges the level of tragedy.

On his brief return to the ring in 2003 with TNA: “I was a mess back then,” Luger said. On the appearances (a tag match with Jarrett against Sting and AJ and an attack on AJ where he slammed him over the top through a table weeks later), Luger said he remembers that AJ Styles was an absolutely incredible athlete and an incredible guy as well. He says he’s glad to see TNA has a strong foundation but obviously is not yet in any position to compete with the WWE.

On his finding of Jesus Christ: “I was basically an Athiest,” said Luger. His journey to salvation began prior in 2006 while in jail. But, it was tested and made stronger in 2007 when he attended what we lovingly call the “Fiasco in Frisco” fan convention at the Cow palace. He suffered a muscle injury in his spine that made him paralyzed. He couldn’t move his arms or legs. “Could you imagine, a guy who worked out religiously not being able to move?”, says Luger. He says when he asked the doctor how long he’d be without the ability to move, he was told forever. Thankfully, that has not turned out to be the case. He can walk and drive now. He says he is grateful to have that kind of movement back and does not take it for granted.

Listen to the full interview at www.WrestlingEpicenter.com. The show also includes a post show where James & Patrick discuss The Fallout of Summerslam and the current state of TNA.

Dusty & Dustin Rhodes Talk About Cody’s “Firing” On RAW

7

WWE.com has an article up about Cody Rhodes being “fired” on RAW, featuring quotes from his brother Dustin (Goldust) and his father, WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes. Here are some highlights of what they said:

Dustin: “What’s good for business? I don’t think Hunter knows right this second. I think he’s a little bit blinded by this job and his position. He wants to make his mark and I understand that. But he’s going about it the wrong way. Cody has taken whatever he has been given and has done it to the best of his ability with the perfect attitude. Sure, he’s a little hot-headed and impatient at times, but he was continuing to grow and continuing to cement himself as one of the top Superstars. His future was bright, and it was all taken away because some executive decided to abuse his power.”

Dusty: “It broke my heart to see this. Why would WWE be so stupid as to throw away a talented kid like this who does the right thing? I’ve kept my mouth shut long enough. The stupidity of what went down last night, the stupidity to take a kid in his 20s, probably the hottest product that we have at this stage in our industry, and to put him in a situation like that? Cody’s not gonna back down from anything. Give him an opportunity to wrestle Randy Orton, anywhere, anyplace, in an alley, it doesn’t make a [difference] to Cody … So why would you be stupid enough to throw something like that away, because he voiced an opinion, you know what I mean? It was not good for business, Hunter. It was not good for business.”

As noted earlier this week, Cody is reportedly taking time off to marry his fiancé, former WWE Diva Eden Stiles.

Matt Morgan About Returning To WWE & The Current Main Event Picture

20

Matt Morgan recently spoke to Raj Giri of WrestlingInc.com about a potential return to WWE. When asked about the prospect of working for WWE again after being granted a release from TNA several months ago, Morgan said:

“I think with that company there’s so many fresh matchups for me. There’s so many endless possibilities. That company’s really cooking right now on all cylinders. Triple H done an amazing job.”

He also commented on the controversy surrounding the fallout from WWE Summerslam – and fans who were upset that Daniel Bryan got screwed out of the WWE Championship by Triple H & company. Morgan says WWE is playing the situation perfectly and setting Daniel Bryan up for a long run as a main event talent:

“I just watched RAW the other night, the thing that he’s got right now with Randy [Orton], as well as Daniel [Bryan], is absolutely perfect. Perfect. And all the people that are b—hing and moaning going, ‘ah, they shouldn’t disrespect him by calling him small and s–t like that. They ruined his moment [winning the WWE Championship at SummerSlam].’ That’s the whole point! That’s the hook! The fans out there that think he’s never going to get higher – as far as reaction – than he was at that moment, you should see the reaction he gets when he finally climbs that hill and conquers.

It’s going to be something that, instead of maybe for eight months of him being super duper over, it’s something that they’re trading for years and years and years of drawing power. As him as the top dude, the top dog. My hat’s off, he’s done an amazing job.”

Titus O’Neal Dating Reality TV Star, Mick Foley Responds To Criticism About RAW

14

– People.com reports that WWE Superstar Titus O’Neil is dating reality TV star Omarosa Manigualt (“The Apprentice”). The report notes that this is Omarosa’s first relationship since her fiancee [actor] Michael Clarke Duncan passed away last year.

– After reading negative feedback to Monday’s RAW, Mick Foley posted the following message on his Facebook page:

“DON’T DO IT, BIG SHOW!

I noticed that there was some negative feedback concerning last night’s Raw – some people feel like the Triple H/Orton/Shield faction has assumed too much power, too soon. But let me ask you this: how many of you found yourselves talking to your TV screen..actually TALKING to your TV screens, saying things like “no, Big Show, don’t do it!” I know I was..and I don’t talk to my screen all that often.

The look in Show’s eyes after he KO’s Daniel Bryan was just heartbreaking. I believe he, along with Daniel, Punk and Heyman, are all embarking on some pretty deep trips into the human mind.
