Lex Luger Talks Death Of Miss Elizabeth, McMahon Purchasing WCW, WrestleMania X & More

0

To promote his recently released autobiography, Wrestling with the Devil: The True Story of a World Champion Professional Wrestler – His Reign, Ruin, and Redemption, former WCW World Heavyweight Champion Lex Luger appeared on Wrestling’s Glory Day Weekly podcast to address his memorable career. Topics discussed include the Four Horsemen, Vince McMahon acquiring World Championship Wrestling, WrestleMania X, and even the tragic death of Miss Elizabeth.

On April 19, 2003, Luger was involved in a domestic dispute with Elizabeth Hulette, then his live-in girlfriend, in the garage of their townhouse in Marietta, Georgia, during which Luger allegedly struck her-he was charged with battery. Two weeks later, Hulette died in the townhouse they shared, after mixing pills of hydrocodone, and Xanax with vodka. Regarding this tragic event, Luger states, “It was a very dark, sad time in my personal life.

“I’ve made a lot of bad choices outside of the ring over the years that led to me giving up my family, my beautiful wife and two children. I developed a double life and there was a lot of collateral damage from that to my friends, my family and those closest to me including Miss Elizabeth. She always will be the first lady of wrestling. It was a real tragedy, I was living a lifestyle back then, a lot of drugs, alcohol, I call it the life of folly in my book. It led to a lot of tragic things. and that was the biggest tragedy you could ever think of to have a close friend like Elizabeth as a result of it. People say, ‘well Lex, you didn’t make her drink or shove pills down her throat,’ but I was a very big influence on her life at the time and I was doing that and she wanted to do what I did. So if you talk about regrets in the past guys, we can’t erase the past and we have got to take responsibility and I take a lot of responsibility for that tragic event and what happened.”

Additional highlights from the interview are as follows:

His thoughts on first finding out about Vince McMahon buying WCW and being on the last Nitro: “I was happy for Vince because I knew, man, he had won, that was a genuine moment for him. I was like, ‘yeah, buddy, everybody had you counted out there when we were beating you for ‘x’ amount of weeks straight. I was happy for him.”

On the night before WrestleMania X, not becoming WWF Champion, and online rumors: “Contrary to what is said, Vince never promised me the belt. He never made me any promises at WrestleMania between Bret, or I, or Yoko. Nor did I expect him to make any. Why would he? I was thrilled to be a part of the main event of WrestleMania. Visit Wrestling Inc It’s funny, I was talking to a guy in an interview recently and a guy said, ‘It was on your Wikipedia that you were drunk the night before at a bar at WrestleMania X and you were supposed to win the belt and Vince got mad at you.’ I wasn’t even anywhere near New York. I was with my wife and two kids in Hartford, Connecticut, staying with friends the night before WrestleMania. I did a lot of stupid stuff back then, but that wasn’t one of them. Rumor becomes fact sometimes, I laughed at that for years. Of all the stupid dumb stuff I did outside of the ring, that was one that I didn’t do. I always found that humorous, crazy how rumors can start. Who came up with that one?”

Vince Russo coming in as head writer in WCW: “I think that Russo and Ferrara did their best to create a young, fresh group of guys, kind of doing an invasion like the now did and really on paper, a pretty good idea. They had a great reputation coming from the WWF for being very creative, really when we found ourselves slipping, consensus wise most of the guys were pretty excited that they were coming in. I think they gave it their very best effort, and the young guys came in and gave it their best effort.

“I think part of the problem was for when the young guys were beating these legendary guys like Hogan in the middle of the ring… I think the fans, as much as they love seeing young talent emerge, I think it was almost like a little bit too much too soon, in my opinion, and the fans didn’t really buy into it like they had hoped. It was a good idea but the fans didn’t quite buy into it. They did their best, but things just didn’t work out the way they hoped. It wasn’t from a lack of effort on the new guys part, the writers or the young wrestlers, it just didn’t get over the way they had hoped. But I didn’t think it was a bad idea.”

Ric Flair and being a member of the Four Horsemen: “Well, Ric lived his persona both in the ring and out of the ring. I found that out right away, I feel like for about three years there hanging out with the Horseman, I feel like I didn’t sleep for almost three years. Ric could stay up all night, then he go to the gym and work out with me, then he go and wrestle an hour. I don’t know how he did it. Ric will always tell you image is everything. He always had a limo waiting for us, we flew usually private or if we flew commercial, first class, stay at really nice hotels. Ric was everything he said he was both in and out of the ring, that’s for sure.”

Flair leaving WCW in 1991 with the title before their scheduled cage match and showing on WWE TV with it: “I was scheduled to wrestle Ric in the cage and I was scheduled to win the title that night. I wasn’t told a lot, but they told me, we’re putting you in the cage with Ric and you’re winning the world title. As far as what happened after that, it was political stuff behind the scenes that I was not privy to. I heard that Ric was trying to negotiate a new contract, and I wanted the best for Ric, so when Ric ended up on television with the belt in the competing organization, I never had any hard feelings about that because I knew Ric had worked so hard and had such an incredible career. He was trying to do what was best for him and his family, from a business sense, I never took it personally. Check out Wrestling Inc. I was disappointed I didn’t get to wrestle Ric in the cage to win the world title, but I wasn’t upset with Ric that he went and did what he had to do and what he thought was best business wise for Ric Flair.

“WCW at the time, they were negotiating with Ric almost right up until the day of the match. To still come in and do the match, it just fell apart at the last minute. Ric almost was WCW, so for Ric to leave was a huge void and vacuum that myself and nobody could possibly even entertain the thought of replacing. They didn’t even have a belt ready yet. I think a lot of the guys were disappointed that Ric wasn’t there, but the show must go on.”

Edge Responds To Triple H’s Recent Remark On Raw, Will He Return To WWE?, Talks Haven

0

As seen on the October 21 episode of Raw during the contact signing for the WWE Championship Match between Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton at Hell in a Cell, Triple H offended WWE Superstars and fans alike with his verbal burial of the talents of Bryan, as well as Chris Jericho, Edge and Rob Van Dam. WWE’s Chief Operating Officer grouped Bryan with his three predecessors and declared that like them, he is not capable of being “The Face of WWE.” The official WWE website caught up with Edge for an interview and asked him about the WWE Chief Operating Officer’s flippant remark.

“When you look back on WWE’s history, how many guys really were “the guy”? There was Bruno Sammartino, then Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, The Rock and now John Cena. Then again, does Triple H like guys with long hair that are better looking and more athletic than him? Probably not. And I think the three of us fall into that category,” responded Edge.

“The Rated-R Superstar” previously addressed Hunter’s remarks on Twitter, stating, “I think everyone forgets it’s entertainment. Santa isn’t real either. Or the Easter Bunny(I think, rabbits are sneaky).”

The 11-time World Champion appears regularly on Syfy series Haven, which started in July 2011, as Dwight Hendrickson. In response to whether he envisioned the show lasting through a fourth season then, Edge said, “I envisioned the show [going to season four], but I don’t know if I envisioned myself going to season four. [My involvement began] when WWE got in contact with the “Haven” producers, who were interested in using a wrestler. WWE said, “We got this guy. He just retired. We think he can do it.” And it just worked out. I went out and one scene turned into four scenes, turned into four episodes, turned into being asked back for the next season. That turned into seven [episodes] and then being asked back again next season and becoming one of the focal characters of the show.”

Edge was also asked whether he will return to WWE, and replied, “I’ll use the absolute most over-used cliché, “never say never,” because when I have come back, it has been fun. If it’s fun, cool and creative and would shake things up and help some new, young talent, I would.”

Edge has been posting paintings on Twitter, and discusses this and more in the interview. To access it, click here.

Early Creative Plans For WrestleMania XXX (Sting and Goldberg)

10

With WrestleMania XXX only five months away, WWE officials are working on the card for the pay-per-view event. However, much of the card will hinge on whether agreements with inactive individuals can be made, such as former World Heavyweight Champions Goldberg and Sting. Here is the proposed card for the event.

* A match pitting Triple H against “Stone Cold” Steve Austin for control of WWE, with Austin representing Vince McMahon, is not expected to occur.

* WWE officials want to secure Sting, whose contract with TNA Wrestling is set to expire, for the event and have him face The Undertaker. The fallback plan is Undertaker facing Brock Lesnar as originally scheduled.

* WWE officials are very interested in securing Goldberg for the show and having him face Ryback. If a deal falls through, Ryback will instead face Big Show. However, if WWE is able to secure Goldberg, Ryback will then face Big Show at Elimination Chamber.

* CM Punk facing Randy Orton is currently planned for the event. Punk had been planned to win the 30-Man Royal Rumble to receive the accompanying World Title shot, but current talk has the winner facing the holder of the World Heavyweight Championship.

* While Shawn Michaels has denied the possibility of wrestling again, there are people within WWE who wholeheartedly believe that he will face Daniel Bryan on the show.

* Goldust is scheduled to turn on Cody Rhodes, leading to the match both have requested for years. Company officials are pleased with Goldust’s work since returning to the promotion a few weeks ago: he’s exceeded all expectations.

Meanwhile, the ongoing Triple H vs. Big Show feud will not culminate at the event. A match between both individuals is scheduled to occur between December and February at Elimination Chamber.

More Details On Why WWE Is Pushing Big Show, Daniel Bryan Blamed For PPV Drop

1

As previously reported, WWE is putting added emphasis on larger Superstars in recent weeks. This is apparently the reason we’ve seen a push for Big Show to the main event level, as well as the reason behind his match with Randy Orton for the WWE Championship at the upcoming Survivor Series pay-per-view on November 24th. Additionally, the large-guy-push in WWE is the reason for the added television exposure of guys like Luke Harper and The Great Khali.

A lot of the blame, as far as WWE is concerned, belongs to the recent attempt to push Daniel Bryan to the top. Bryan is getting the blame by WWE management for the recent drop in pay-per-views, as they feel they gave him a shot in the top spot for the last few months-worth of pay-per-views, and they consider the buyrates dropping to be a direct result of trying to push a smaller guy as opposed to a larger guy, which WWE feels the fans want these days.

Featuring 10 original songs written and performed by Hardy, and packaged along with lyrics and one-of-a-kind art by Hardy, the record is available for $9.99 as a download/$12.99 hard CD on www.shoptna.com, iTunes and select online retailers today. A must-have for industrial rock music and wrestling fans around the world, “Plurality of Worlds” offers listeners an other-worldly experience. With haunting tracks such as the standout “EveryOtherDay,” Hardy delivers a soulful, artistic album that defies convention, much like his signature in-ring high-risk wrestling technique.

“The songs on my new album represent my personal therapy sessions,” Hardy shares. “This collection is a combination of my soul and personal journal entries all put to music. It is the Plurality of Worlds.”

Junior Merrill, a longtime friend of Hardy’s, musician and songwriter, co-wrote all of the songs in the album. Additionally, TNA Wrestling Music Producer Dale Oliver co-wrote three of the tracks including “None of a Kind,” “EveryOtherDay,” and “Time and Fate.”

“Plurality of Worlds,” along with limited-edition, numbered, signed and framed lithographs created from Hardy artwork are the key features of Shoptna.com’s “Black November” sale. An ideal holiday gift for dedicated Hardy followers, fans will not want to miss this one-time chance to own or gift three different Jeff Hardy merchandise bundles featuring items such as Hardy t-shirts, arm bands, dog tags and slap bands.

About Jeff Hardy: Known as “The Charismatic Enigma,” Jeff Hardy is one of the most popular superstars in professional wrestling. Famous for his exciting, high-flying daredevil acts, Hardy is considered a pioneer of high-risk wrestling. This former World Champion has once again revolutionized his career with TNA. Hardy is best known for his work in tables, ladders and chairs matches where he regularly pushes the limits of professional wrestling. Fans are truly amazed by his undying resilience and commitment to his craft. Hardy famously competed in the second ever Monster’s Ball Match. During this contest at Bound for Glory 2005, Hardy performed his notorious Swanton. From the top of the arena entrance, Hardy landed onto Abyss, who was lying on a table 30 feet below. This is just one of the many examples portraying Hardy’s dangerous wrestling style and disregard for his own personal safety.

  • Huge Update On The TNA Sale + News On Hulk Hogan/WWE Negotiations
  • Cameron Speaks On New Season Of Total Divas, Filming The Show & More

    1

The following are highlights from a recent interview with one-half of The Funkadactyls tag-team, WWE Diva Cameron:

What to expect from the upcoming new episodes of E! ‘Total Divas’: “You’re definitely going to see the competitiveness of being in the WWE. There’s only, usually, one spot for the Divas so you can kind of see how being in such a competitive world, seeing how all the girls are trying to basically claw their way to the top. You’re going to see love stories; how the WWE and being on the road so much has an impact on all of our relationships, whether it’s the Divas who have relationships in the WWE or girls like Eva and I who don’t have relationships like that, impacts in both ways. But there’s always going to be drama, that’s for sure. You put seven girls together and it’s bound to be very drama filled, but I can’t give you everything because if I did, I’d ruin it, so you just have to tune in Sundays, after the Kardashians and watch Total Divas.”

Is it odd having the cameras following you all the time: “I mean, at first, it’s a lot because you have a lot of people invading your personal space but I’m so used to it now and it’s what I do for a living. We’re out in front of thousands and the cameras are in our faces when we’re in the ring or even out of the ring or when we’re doing stuff backstage. So, I actually love it and for me, being a Funkadactyl, it’s two of us and sometimes a lot of fans don’t get to know who we are and now we can have that outlet to be like ‘This is who I am’ and ‘That is who Trinity is’ so you can see a difference in our personalities and it’s nice for the fans to get to know us on an one-on-one basis.”

Her favorite part in filming the show: “Gosh, there have been so many good times; I’m trying to think. I can’t really think of one in particular. Actually, I do, but it’s going to be coming up in the second half of our first season, so I think you’ll know what I’m talking about when you see it.”

Her trip to the plastic surgeon on the show and if she felt she made the right choice not getting the implants: “Definitely, I mean I think no matter if you are a woman of if you are male, we all have something about us that we would like to change, you know, and I just feel like this is how we were made and I feel like you should embrace that. I feel that, especially being a role model, that there are a lot of girls out there that feel like the image of what a women should look like should be this crazy, flawless person and we all have imperfections. None of us are perfect, we’re not super human, so whatever way, even if I would have decided to do it, I mean it would have been for my own personal reason not to say oh this is what you should change about yourself.

But I do feel like I wanted to send a positive message to young girls saying, you know what I’m a role model; not to knock anyone who has ever changed anything about themselves because that’s just their own personal thing and to make them feel comfortable. But in my situation, I just wanted to show young girls that I love myself and I love everything about me but I also want to show thing that I don’t like about myself and say that I have these imperfections but be happy with how you are.”

Her famous catchphrases from the show and if she’s surprised they’ve taken off: “I mean, it’s strange to think that stuff I’ve said my whole life, for ever and ever and I’d never even realized I had all these catchphrases. I mean I did have a really outgoing personality and have always has these phrases and sayings and pretty much not having a filter when I say things but it’s so awesome because it’s really catching on with the fans on Twitter and Instagram that are like ‘Girl Bye’ or ‘Boy Bye’ and ‘Dabomb.com’, you know what I mean? When I’m out and about shopping and people see me and are like ‘Girl Bye’. It’s so crazy but it’s so cool. SO I’m definitely capitalizing on that.”

What does she do in her free time: “Oh my gosh, I honestly like to sit on my couch with my dog, Glitty, and watch Family Feud. I love Family Feud and Mystery Detectives, that’s like my stuff right there. It’s actually hard for me to turn it off when I get home, I mean, that’s just me being nice; literally I’m always on the go. Even Vincent will go ‘Babe, just turn it off for a second and just enjoy’ but that’s really hard for me because I want to be successful; to me, I just want to give it 110% and when I’m not working it’s just I love what I do and I want to get better at what I do and I want to show my fans that. So, I’m literally always working, but when I do turn it off and put my phone away, and give him the attention that he needs, that’s what I do. But it’s really hard for me to turn it off, it’s something I really do need to work on because it is really hard.”

Former WWE Wrestler Escorted Out Of Toronto City Hall (Video), Latest WWE Alumni Addition, Mr. Nanny

    0

    – A video surfaced Thursday showing Toronto Mayor Rob Ford in a rambling rage, using threatening words such as “kill” and “murder.” Former WWE Superstar Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake attempted to speak with Ford at Toronto City Hall, but was escorted out by security after cutting a promo on the embattled mayor while advertising a submarine sandwich.

Footage from the incident can be seen here.

    – Savio Vega is the latest addition to the Alumni section on WWE.com. The website is branding him as one of the unexpected heroes of WWE’s “New Generation,” and acknowledges his path to the organization through Puerto Rican professional wrestling.

    – AVClub.com has published an article naming the nineteen least essential entertainments from 1993 and Mr. Nanny starring Hulk Hogan heads the dubious list—the movie was shot during Hogan’s hiatus from WWE following WrestleMania VIII.

The website labels Hogan’s early 1990s outside-the-ring ventures with the following: “Tuba-voiced pro wrestler Hulk Hogan was a ubiquitous media presence throughout the ’90s, trying his hand at everything from music (1995’s Hulk Rules) to restaurants (the terrifyingly punctuated Hulk Hogan’s Pastamania!) despite showing very little talent for anything that didn’t involve leg drops.”

Former WWE Wrestler Paul Roma Rips Triple H In New Shoot Interview (Video)

    30

Former WWE and WCW wrestler Paul Roma still harbors ill will toward Triple H, who was buried by the Chief Operating Officer years ago in WWE’s video release spotlighting the Four Horsemen-Triple H questioned Roma’s inclusion in the elite World Championship Wrestling group in 1993, and dismissively referred to him as a “job guy from WWE.” In a preview of his newly released shoot interview with RF Video, the three-time WCW World Tag Team Champion takes aim at “The Game.”

In response to Triple H’s remarks, Roma says, “If you didn’t take it in your a**, yeah you married the boss’s daughter, I get that. Something’s not right there, that I think we can all agree with. But at the end of the day, you’re not a great f****** worker. You’re not the Ultimate Warrior, jumping up on the ropes. You’re not Hulk f***** Hogan. You’ll never be as big as any of them, or Savage.

“You could write yourself into every WrestleMania, every year, every six months, you’re in another thing. But at the end of the f****** day, you are who you are.”

Roma made similar remarks during an interview in 2008, stating, “Helmsley, you suck, dude! You’re married to the boss’s daughter, who’s running the show. You’re gassed up and when you get off the gas, you shrivel and when you’re on the gas, you look like s***.”

Elsewhere in the preview video, Roma relays stories on Power and Glory, Barry Horowitz, The Rockers, Ric Flair and cheating drug tests.
