Hogan/WWE Rumor Killer, WWE Superstars Do Impressions Of Each Other (Video)

13

– As previously reported, an article in The Examiner claimed that Hulk Hogan and WWE have “verbally agreed” to a deal to bring Hogan back in to the company. According to PWInsider, The Examiner reports are untrue. Apparently there have been ongoing discussions between Hogan and WWE, however nothing has been agreed upon as of yet.

This could be an example of The Examiner running a bad story, or somebody in Hogan’s camp leaking the news – in order to help Hogan’s position when negotiating with WWE and TNA. Either way, according to our sources, people in WWE are confident that a deal will be made and Hogan will be back with WWE in time for WrestleMania season.

– WWE has added a new video called “Rank’d – Impressions” to their official YouTube channel. The video, which you can watch below, features WWE Superstars doing impressions of other WWE Superstars.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE made AJ Styles a ridiculously low offer when he became a free agent just a few weeks ago. The offer was so low that it was for approximately 1/5 of what he makes in TNA.

Kevin Nash Talks About His First WWE Run, Road Stories, The Original nWo & More

8

Source: Big WrestleShark Show

Former WWE and WCW World Champion Kevin Nash was interviewed on this week’s edition of the Big WrestleShark Show, ahead of his upcoming appearances alongside Scott Hall and Sean Waltman on the UK Takeover Tour. In the near hour long interview, Kevin discusses who took him under their wing, the feeling in the locker room when he joined WWF, jumping to WCW, the early days of the NOW, his thoughts on TNA as competition for WWE, working a ladder match at 52 years old and more. Here are some highlights from the interview:

Moving to WWF the first time: “The biggest difference was I was in WCW, which was a television company that had wrestling and I went to the WWF, which was a wrestling company that did wrestling. It’s what they did, they specialized in it. From production, to professionalism, to direction, it was so night and day. Business was down then when I got there in ’93. But at the same time business was ten times better in WWF than it was in WCW. We’d get to buildings and the guys would be complaining the house was down, and I’d look through the curtain and it’d be the biggest crowd I’d ever worked in front of.

“There was always a perception when you were in WCW of ‘would you like to go to WWF?’ and the reaction was always ‘I don’t know if I’m ready.’ At the time all the guys that were in WWF who were all seasoned good workers with established persona’s. Then when my era came along, the New Generation, a lot of those guys were leaving the business. Check out Wrestling  Inc.When I came in to WWF, Hulk was going to Turner, there was a kind of a changing of the guard, it was a very young crowd… Bret had been there, but had spent most of his time as a tag team entity at that time, Shawn was on his up and coming, Scott Hall was becoming a star, the Undertaker was a star, Yoko was there and we were really starting to build a nucleus.”

Stories from the road: “We spent 300 days a year on the road when I first came in, and we would spend a ton of time in the UK because we did so well there. I think it kept the WWF alive. I remember doing a 19 day tour, being home for clothes and going back for a 21 day tour; only setting foot in the states to do TV’s. At the same time, those trips were the craziest because you had a driver …when you have a driver and you’re on a bus, there isn’t much to do but drink beer and play cards, and that’s what we did.

“We were all young guys, we knew we had to do this together, we were a team, and it was just like stone by stone, we had to build this thing back to what it once was. I think that group of guys on that bus, those 12 – 18 guys… I’ve got a picture of that group in the back of the bus; it’s Taker, the Kliq, Stone Cold, the only person who’s really not on that bus is The Rock. It’s like the Attitude era and the NWO Era combined in the back of that bus. It makes me feel good that I was fortunate enough to be part of that group of guys. It was the perfect storm.”

Recreating that atmosphere/lack of competition in wrestling: “There was such a changing of the guard. Turner really put out money to get name talent off of Vince. Even when Scott [Hall] and I left [WWF], I asked I asked Vince to match Turner’s offer, and he just told me monetarily he couldn’t do it. He couldn’t get into a bidding war with Turner, he would just have to build another star.

“I just think that because there is not a strong alternative to WWE now, I don’t believe there will ever be another situation like that, where guys are jumping back and forth, and it’s really that competitive, where there really is a war. Erich Bischoff made it known he was trying to put Vince out of business, and anyone who knows Vince McMahon knows that you’re not going to put him out of business.

“I think it’s missing. It’s hard to be your best without having somebody push you. There’s just not a strong second to WWE, there’s just not. I’ll work independent shows, there’s nobody on the card but myself and we’ll draw 1,200 people. TNA put on a loaded card someplace in Texas and they get 480 paid people… it just doesn’t make sense. I was there almost four and a half years and people at the airport would know who I was and ask what I was doing. I never felt that the Spike Channel pushed TNA. I felt they were so UFC based for so long that they just never… when was the last time you seen a TNA ad during a WWE program? Never, right? Go the opposite way and on Impact you’ll see a WWE PPV ad! That’s the whole thing, you can’t compete against them. You no longer have to even say what the card is, it’s just that Raw or Smackdown are coming. It doesn’t matter. It’s the brand.”

Reservations about adding Hogan to “The Outsiders”?: “For me, there will never, ever be another Hulk Hogan. So when they pushed the idea around that this would be the first time Hogan would do a heel turn and be part of us, I mean we were over but to get the Hogan rub and the fact that he was turning? It ensured success! It was such a water and oil mix of personalities and psychologies, that was the hard thing: but the selling of standing next to Hogan? When I was a mark he was my favorite, so here I am in the same ring with the guy and we’re on the same team I’m just like ‘wow, this is special.'”

Personal differences between the three: “At the beginning he was such a character, that bigger than life ‘Brother, brother, brother, let me tell you something brother’ type guy and me and Scott, we just talk like this. We didn’t screw around, we didn’t yell or scream, we were kind of sarcastic wise guys and that’s who we are. I’m Kevin Nash and he’s Scott Hall, that’s what it says on our drivers license. So that was the real difference, but I think it was part of what changed the perception of people. People all of a sudden seen guys come to the ring with baseball bats and then they actually hit people with them; people just realized this wasn’t the pro-wrestling they grew up with.”

His last run in WWE against Triple H: “If you would have told me at 50 years old, that at 52 I’d be in a ladder match [laughs]. I think it was a rib. I think they booked it, they called me up, put me on speaker and were waiting for me to start cursing and then I said ‘alright fine I’ll do it,’ I think they just thought ‘oh my god he’s going to do it.’ I knew it was against Paul, and I’ve always said I’ll work against anyone good enough to carry me! I can’t ballroom dance on my own. Gimme someone who can dance and I can do my part.

“He’s so busy from a running the company stand point, we basically called it on the fly because we didn’t have time to do anything. I got out there, picked up the ladder and I’m like, ‘oh my god this thing is heavy.’ I’m waiting for him to get up, and I know when he does I’m gonna swing it at him and I know just from the physics of it, I’m not gonna be able to stop this ladder once I swing it… so it’s comin. That’s the thing about working with your friends; you’ll take real good care of somebody you don’t know, but you’ll beat the hell out of your friends.”

You can check out the full interview at this link, which included Nash discussing his original run as Master Blaster, Oz, who was instrumental in his early years, the UK Takeover Tour, beating Bob Backlund in 10 seconds and more.

Lex Luger Speaks On Internet Rumors, Never Being WWE Champion, Russo & More

6

The following are highlights from a recent Lex Luger interview with Steve and the Scum of WGD Weekly:

On the passing of Miss Elizabeth: “It was a very dark, sad time in my personal life…I’ve made a lot of bad choices outside of the ring over the years that led to me giving up my family, my beautiful wife and two children…I developed a double life and there was a lot of collateral damage from that to my friends, my family and those closest to me including Miss Elizabeth. She always will be the first lady of wrestling…it was a real tragedy, I was living a lifestyle back then, a lot of drugs, alcohol, I call it the life of folly in my book, it led to a lot of tragic things and that was the biggest tragedy you could ever think of to have a close friend like Elizabeth as a result of it. People say well Lex, you didn’t make her drink or shove pills down her throat, but I was a very big influence on her life at the time and I was doing that and she wanted to do what I did, so if you talk about regrets in the past guys, we can’t erase the past and we have got to take responsibility and I take a lot of responsibility for that tragic event and what happened.”

On Vince McMahon buying WCW and the last edition of Nitro: “I was happy for Vince because I knew, man, he had won, that was a genuine moment for him, I was like, yeah, buddy, everybody had you counted out there when we were beating you for “x” amount of weeks straight, I was happy for him.”

On WrestleMania X, not becoming WWE Champion and internet rumors: “Contrary to what is said, Vince never promised me the belt…he never made me any promises at WrestleMania between Bret, or I, or Yoko…nor did I expect him to make any, why would he, I was thrilled to be a part of the main event of WrestleMania…it’s funny I was talking to a guy in an interview recently and a guy said, ‘It was on your Wikipedia that you were drunk the night before at a bar at WrestleMania 10 and you were supposed to win the belt and Vince got mad at you,’ I wasn’t even anywhere near New York. I was with my wife and two kids in Hartford, Connecticut, staying with friends the night before WrestleMania…I did a lot of stupid stuff back then, but that wasn’t one of them…rumor becomes fact sometimes, I laughed at that for years, of all the stupid dumb stuff I did outside of the ring, that was one that I didn’t do…I always found that humorous, crazy how rumors can start…Who came up with that one?”

On Vince Russo coming in as head writer for WCW: “I think that Russo and Ferrara did their best to create a young, fresh group of guys, kind of doing an invasion like the now did and really on paper, a pretty good idea. They had a great reputation coming from the WWF for being very creative, really when we found ourselves slipping, consensus wise most of the guys were pretty excited that they were coming in and I think they gave it their very best effort, and the young guys came in and gave it their best effort, I think part of the problem was for when the young guys, when they came in and were beating these legendary guys like Hogan…in the middle of the ring…I think the fans as much as they love seeing young talent emerge, I think it was almost like a little bit too much too soon in my opinion and the fans didn’t really buy into it like they had hoped. It was a good idea but the fans didn’t quite buy into it…they did their best, but things just didn’t work out the way they hoped, it wasn’t from a lack of effort on the new guys part, the writers or the young wrestlers, it just didn’t get over the way they had hoped…but I didn’t think it was a bad idea.”

On Ric Flair and being in the Four Horsemen: “Ric lived his persona both in the ring and out of the ring, I found that out right away, I feel like for about three years there hanging out with the Horseman, I feel like I didn’t sleep for almost three years…Ric could stay up all night…then he go to the gym and work out with me, then he go and wrestle and hour broadway, I don’t know how he did it…Ric will always tell you image is everything, he always had a limo waiting for us, we flew usually private or if we flew commercial, first class, stay at really nice hotels…Ric was everything he said he was both in and out of the ring, that’s for sure.”

On Ric Flair leaving WCW and taking their world title to WWE with him: “I was scheduled to wrestle Ric in the cage and I was scheduled to win the title that night…I wasn’t told a lot, but they told me, we’re putting you in the cage with Ric and you’re winning the world title…as far as what happened after that, it was political stuff behind the scenes that I was not privy to, I heard that Ric was trying to negotiate a new contract, and I wanted the best for Ric, so when Ric ended up on television with the belt in the competing organization, I never had any hard feelings about that because I knew Ric had worked so hard and had such an incredible career, he was trying to do what was best for him and his family, from a business sense, I never took it personally…I was disappointed I didn’t get to wrestle Ric in the cage to win the world title, but I wasn’t upset with Ric that he went and did what he had to do and what he thought was best business wise for Ric Flair…WCW at the time, they were negotiating with Ric almost right up until the day of the match …to still come in and do the match, it just fell apart at the last minute…Ric almost was WCW, so for Ric to leave was a huge void and vacuum that myself and nobody could possibly even entertain the thought of replacing…they didn’t even have a belt ready yet…I think a lot of the guys were disappointed that Ric wasn’t there, but the show must go on.”

“If I look at my schedule right now… I don’t have one booking as a manager. I’m booked all over Europe, I’m booked all over this country, in two-on-one handicap matches. So I’m booked as a wrestler right now, not as a manager. At 48-year-old, I still have not had formal training as a wrestler. The role has changed. We’re not just doing the typical old-school gimmick matches that Lou Albano used to participate in.”

Heyman also talked about his future goals – and the goals of Brock Lesnar:

“I’ve never managed in the main event at WrestleMania and I would love [that]. There are things that I know Brock wants to accomplish for us in this industry, that I prefer that Brock goes public with those goals when it’s time. I know that Brock and I have talked about things that we’d like to accomplish, that we haven’t had a chance to do yet. Hey, I’d love to be the first guy to ever manage the WWE and the WWE World heavyweight champion at the same time as well.”

The Latest On Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards’ Talks With WWE

33

As we’ve been reporting, two of the standouts at the recent WWE Performance Center’s recent tryout camp were former Ring of Honor tag team champions Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards. WWE was impressed with both of their work at the tryouts, however, neither man was offered a contract, which has been a topic of discussion behind the scenes.

Full Details On WWE’s Latest Tryout Camp – Who Is Getting Signed?

The latest is that WWE is still in talks with both men, with a few influential employees pushing the company to give them a closer look and sign them.

Other people, including Triple H, are against signing them because WWE “has signed enough indy wrestlers.”  The feeling is that WWE already has enough indy workers in developmental and the company is focusing on signing larger than life characters and wrestlers with strong amateur credentials, like this week’s signing of Olympian Chas Betts.

Eve Torres Talks About Life After WWE, If She’ll Ever Return & More

8

Photos of Eve Torres & Her Husband Rener Gracie

WWE.com recently caught up with former WWE Diva Eve Torres. Here are some highlights of what she said about:

Life After WWE: “Well, aside from building a house and planning a wedding and all of that real-life stuff that I’ve finally gotten around to, I’ve been teaching a lot of women’s self-defense classes at the Gracie Academy. Since January, I’ve pretty much been teaching Gracie Women Empowered self-defense full-time, working with women from all walks of life. We’ve got grandmas in there, we’ve got mothers with their daughters, and we’ve had several contracts with the U.S. Air Force.”

“Also, this summer I actually filmed my first movie. I did a really fun fight scene in [“Scorpion King: The Lost Throne”], which will be coming out next year. I was so excited to be a part of it. Ellen Hollman is the actress I worked with, and she is just incredible. We got to incorporate some wrestling stuff, too. I pulled out some of my old tricks in there. It was a lot of fun to shoot.”

Teaching Self Defense To The Total Divas Cast: “WWE actually reached out to me. I went to the WWE Performance Center [in Orlando] and worked with the NXT Divas down there. That’s how it started. WWE wanted me to work with the NXT Divas, talk to them about my experiences in WWE and also teach them a seminar. Then they said, while I’m there, because Raw and SmackDown were so close, that I could teach the girls on the main roster as well.”

“This is something I had always wanted to do even when I was with WWE, but we’re all so busy and schedules are so crazy that I’m glad I finally had an opportunity to do it. I know all of those girls have been in situations similar to what happened to me because it happens so often. They’re traveling a lot, they’re all beautiful women and they have to face so many situations that the average man doesn’t really even have to think about. So it’s not only about educating them about how to be aware and present themselves, and how to not be a target in the first place; it’s also about instilling them with confidence based in these techniques, so they really feel like they can address the situation if they have to. And they have a plan to fall back on if they really have to.”

Her Current Relationship With WWE: “When I left WWE, it was, of course, one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make. But I really feel like WWE is a part of me. I do want to be involved whenever I can. Of course I can’t go back on the road, I’m not going to be having matches or anything like that, but any way I can represent WWE, any capacity in which I can contribute and still live the life I have chosen now, I’m excited to do that.”

If She’ll Ever Return To WWE: “I knew that question was coming [laughs]. The truth is, I get asked that question all the time, and I really can say that, right now, I don’t see it happening. But I know myself enough to know that I’m not going to sit here and say that it’s never going to happen. I just don’t know what the next few years will bring. Like I said, if things go as planned in my life, and I start a family or anything like that, then probably not. But who knows? There are people who have families and still come back. Right now I don’t see it coming, but I still have dreams about matches, I will tell you that.”

John Cena Talks WrestleMania XXX, Returning From Injury So Soon

18

WWE Champion John Cena was recently interviewed by Marvel.comHere are some highlights of what Cena said about:

What Motivated Him To Return From Injury So Soon:

“I just don’t like [being out]. I really like the job and it comes with ups and downs and I know not necessarily everyone at my job loves me but that shouldn’t sour me from my place of employment. I’ve truly found a home in the WWE and when I’m not there all I want to do is be there. I think that helped me get back really soon because everything I did was focused on getting back sooner and sooner.”

Photos of John Cena’s Ridiculous Halloween Costume

What He’ll Be Doing at WrestleMania XXX:

“Honestly, I like seeing how WrestleMania unfolds. I’ve had different matches over the years. I’ve been scattered throughout the menu. But looking back at all my WrestleMania performances, the fact is that I was there and I really enjoy seeing what’s going to happen. I was a part of WrestleMania XX and if you look at the timeline from XX until now, XX pretty much laid the foundation of the people who are truly the driving force of the company right now. So who’s to say what’s going to happen at [WrestleMania] XXX? I really just want to be able to find out. First of all, I’m glad that tickets are going on sale on the 16th because that makes the event very [real]. And then I just want to be able to see where I can be, what I can do, and how this whole thing is going to shake up.”

Talk of a Potential Champion vs. Champion Match at WrestleMania XXX

If He Could Have One Super Power, What Would It Be?

“Man, honestly I hope for the power of invisibility. I say, “You can’t see me” all the time so I kind of half-ass answered that. Maybe cloning? That way I can get myself to more places at once. I truly like being able to be in the ring and I know WWE tours with two brands and now that I’m back I’m trying to make every brand, every show. So if there was just one more of me, I’d be able to make it everywhere at once.”

How WWE Handles Bullying In The Locker Room “It isn’t condoned by the talent or management. There’s no place for it.”

If John Cena Is As Controversial as DX or Steve Austin: “I don’t think Cena is controversial. I think he is polarizing. Good man. Hard worker. I’m proud to have signed him.”

As noted previously, Hulk Hogan is reportedly leaning towards re-signing with TNA Impact Wrestling over WWE, due to what was described by one source as a “low-ball” offer from WWE. However, the same source is now reporting WWE may still sign one of the top stars in TNA today.

Lex Luger Comments On The Possibility of Sting In WWE

According to a new report, sources within WWE feel that their chances are “decent” at signing “The Icon” Sting (Steve Borden) to a deal with the company. Sting is perhaps the single biggest name in pro wrestling history, certainly in the United States, to have never worked for WWE. WWE has made overtures in the past to get Sting to make the move to WWE, but never got the deal done.
