WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin spoke to Variety.com this week to hype SummerSlam and the new WWE 2K14 video game. During the interview, Austin spoke about being “pissed off” that the show never got an additional season.

“When that show didn’t come back, I was pissed off,” Austin said. “It was a great show. The numbers were very good. We had a great time doing it. Why they didn’t bring it back still baffles me to this day because I loved doing that show. It was a great way to be in the business I know and love without having to be in the ring taking lumps.”

Steve also plugged his podcast which will feature Ric Flair as a special guest this week.

“Whether’s it one hour or six hours or whatever, he’s my favorite pro-wrestler of all time,” Austin said. “I had a wonderful career that I’m proud of, but when I look in the dictionary of pro-wrestler, I see the picture of Ric Flair. Jim Ross Denies He Was Drunk At WWE 2K14 Symposium, HBK-Darren Young

13

– WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has responded to online reports at certain other websites that claim he was drunk at last night’s WWE 2K14 “30 Years of WrestleMania” discussion panel. Jim Ross tweeted:

“Complete lie. I was not drunk. Ridiculous”

“When I’m tired my Bell’s palsy has always made he slur @ times giving some who don’t know me the wrong impression. Weakened facial muscles.”

– TMZ.com cameras caught up with WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels in Los Angeles this weekend and asked him for his thoughts on Darren Young “coming out.”

Michaels joked that being a gay pro wrestler is a very “1980’s” thing to do and said even though coming out was a huge deal for Darren Young, it’s not a big deal to him or anybody else in WWE.

Here’s the TMZ video:

Video: WWE 2K14 “30 Years Of WrestleMania” Symposium

WWE and 2K Sports held the “30 Years Of WrestleMania” symposium on Saturday night – and the footage has to be seen to believe. Jim Ross hosted the 75-minute discussion panel, which featured the likes of Steve Austin, Ric Flair, Paul Heyman, Mick Foley, Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler and Rey Mysterio.

It’s over an hour of some of the greatest minds in the business discussing the video game and telling road stories – with Ric Flair stealing the show. Flair was in such “rare form” that he was actually removed from the stage by WWE officials.

WWE SummerSlam 2013 Predictions From Jim Ross

3

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has revealed his SummerSlam predictions in a new blog at JRsBarBQ.com. Don’t forget – 24Wrestling.com will have WWE SummerSlam 2013 Results coverage tonight! Here are the predictions:

WWE Championship match: I’ve thought for a while that Daniel Bryan will win the WWE title at Summer Slam but now I’m not as convinced. However, I’ll dance with who ‘brung’ me. In non Okie talk, that means that I’m sticking with my original thought…Bryan wins.

Where MITB winner Randy Orton, Referee HHH, the McMahon Family, injuries, etc fit on this ride is anyone’s guess. I’m curious as to all these potential scenarios that I’ll get to watch live inside the Staples Center from the 2K Sports suite.

CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar: Thought the ending to RAW with CM Punk getting the upper hand on BROCK LESNAR (in Happy Heyman’s voice) and the Meyer Lansky of the WWE himself was compelling. I Tweeted a few days ago @JRsBBQ that I felt like this bout would be the most physical, one on one match in the WWE thus far this year. I am anxious to see how this match is competed stylistically. I’m still of the belief that it could end in a submission or a stoppage. I’m a Lesnar lean on this main event bout.

Kick off show: Helluva deal for all fans being able to see the US Title bout for FREE during the pre game show featuring Dean Ambrose vs. RVD. This bout will get first crack at a fresh, packed house and should set the stage nicely for the rest of the show.

Alberto Del Rio vs. Christian: I think that ADR retains at Summer Slam vs. Christian in what is actually positioned to be able to impact Summer Slam very positively as many aren’t talking too much about the World Title Bout. Watch these two pros turn heads in the Staples Center.

Bray Wyatt vs. Kane: Big opportunity for Bray Wyatt to really turn it on Sunday vs. Kane. It’s truly ‘game day’ for the third generation athlete.

Big Show’s return: How great did Big Show look Monday night? I was impressed and know how diligently that he has been training and adjusting his diet. Bravo to the big guy who, when on a recruiting visit, enjoyed a home cooked meal in our then Connecticut home, broke a dining room tile (Dang, Italian tile, anyway :)) and we closed the deal over my wife’s homemade biscuits and a heaping helping of apple butter.

WWE SummerSlam Kickoff Show

-The SummerSlam Kickoff show begins with the panel, featuring Josh Mathews, who is joined by WWE Hall Of Famers Shawn Michaels and Booker T, as well as current WWE Superstar Vickie Guerrero. The panel hypes up some of the top matches on the card early on.

-We go to the Social Media center and get a rundown of the different ways fans can interact with other fans and WWE talent during the show.

-A bunch of video packages highlighting the back-stories to the top feuds heading into tonight’s show airs.

-Backstage, we shoot to a live interview with Paul Heyman. Heyman laughs at the comparisons to David and Goliath, when discussing the Brock Lesnar vs. CM Punk match. Heyman goes on to talk about how the story was false. David didn’t win. Goliath did. He says that’s what’s going to happen tonight. Lesnar is going to take Punk’s best shot and then lay him to waste to the point that we never see Punk again. Heyman says both parties agreed to his suggestion that tonight’s match between the two will be a no-disqualification match.

-The panel talks about the change in stipulation to a no-DQ match for Lesnar/Punk. From there, we shoot to a pre-taped video from earlier in the day of fans who traveled a long distance to witness SummerSlam live in person.

-From there, we head to a video package highlighting the new WWE reality show, “Total Divas.”

-We see a video package highlighting the Dolph Ziggler/AJ Lee/Big E. Langston drama. This leads to a video of Ziggler and Langston showing their training and preparation for the big match tonight on pay-per-view.

-After that, we take another visit to the Social Media Lounge. We are reminded to use the hashtag “#SummerSlam” tonight. We are asked to share our predictions for the show. Then the lady reads some predictions from some of the fans.

-Now a video package airs highlighting the history and the back-story for the WWE Championship match between John Cena and Daniel Bryan.

-We return from the video package and the panel all share their thoughts on the feud and give their predictions as to who they feel will win. HBK talks about knowing Bryan since he was a kid. Everyone on the panel seems to be pro-Daniel Bryan. Booker T makes sure to put Cena over huge. Vickie Guerrero says he’s spoiled.

-We shoot to video from earlier today of more fans around the arena giving their predictions for tonight’s show. These particular fans won free tickets by winning a trivia game.

-Now we get our first look live at ringside, where Michael Cole, Jerry “The King” Lawler and JBL hype up tonight’s top matches. More of the same from earlier, just with these three doing the talking instead of HBK, Booker and Guerrero.

United States Championship: Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Rob Van Dam

The Champion, Dean Ambrose is out first. He comes through the crowd as usual, by himself. Rob Van Dam is out next, to an enormous ovation from the fans in L.A. Michael Cole notes during the entrance that HBK is tweeting live already. Loud “RVD” chant before the match officially begins. The bell rings and here we go!

The two lock up, and Van Dam is knocked down and mocked by Ambrose. Ambrose applies a hammer lock to Van Dam and screams, “Who’s the man!” The crowd stomps and claps, trying to get RVD back into the contest. It works, as Van Dam is back up and flying all over the place already. RVD hits a big spin-kick on Ambrose and then does his own “RVD thumbs” pose the correct way. The crowd is very hot for RVD in this one. RVD with a headlock on Ambrose and the crowd is cheering RVD along.

Ambrose manages to turn the tide of the offensive flow of the match. Ambrose is working over RVD in the corner now. Ambrose with a nearfall. A loud, dueling “Let’s go Ambrose” and “RVD” chant breaks out from different sides of the arena. The announcers seemed surprise by the support for Ambrose. Ambrose hits a big dropkick on RVD as he was leaning against the middle of the ropes. Ambrose with another nearfall. Ambrose yelling at RVD as he beats on him. The crowd tries rallying behind Van Dam as he is stuck into another chinlock by Ambrose.

Van Dam breaks out of the hold and is a hot ball of offense again. Huge cross-body press off the ropes for a nearfall. We are shown that “No DQ” is trending worldwide on Twitter, likely due to the added stipulation announced earlier in the Kickoff show for the Punk/Lesnar match later tonight. Ambrose slows RVD down again. RVD is back on the offensive. He climbs to the top for the Five Star Frogsplash and The Shield’s music hits.

Rmoan Reigns and Seth Rollins come down through the crowd as Van Dam gets off the top. Ambrose rolls out to the floor. RVD stands in the rnig by himself looking confused. Mark Henry’s music hits and he comes down to the ring. Immediately after Henry makes his way to the ring, THe Big Show’s music hits. Now the odds are even at three and three on each side. As Big Show is coming to the ring, Michael Cole tells us that RVD vs. Ambrose for the U.S. title continues as we head to a commerical. The commercial is a special Ultimate Warrior version of the WWE 2K14 commercial. Another commercial airs, hyping up Lesnar and Punk.

We return from commercial and Ambrose is in the middle of a nearfall on RVD. Henry and Big Show are on one side of the ring, Reigns and Rollins are on the other. A loud “ECW” chant breaks out as Ambrose locks RVD in another chinlock. A somewhat loud “TNA” chant breaks out, followed by a chorus of “boo’s” from the rest of the crowd, likely aimed at those chanting for TNA. Funny stuff. Ambrose throws RVD to the floor. Reigns and Rollins come around to beat him up some more, until Henry and Show come around as well. They have a stand off and RVD is allowed to recover. Ambrose rolls out to the floor now and beats up RVD as all of the aforementioned four guys look on. Van Dam counters Ambrose and suplexes him on the floor. Van Dam lays Ambrose across the ring barricade and does his old spinning leg drop on him. Crowd dug that. After the spot, the crowd breaks out into another “RVD” chant.

The action returns to the ring as Van Dam hits a flying flip onto Ambrose for a nearfall. Van Dam now calling for Rolling Thunder, but Reigns from the outside grabs RVD’s leg as he hits the ropes. Van Dam with a unique roll-up with just his legs for a nearfall. Ambrose hits a big spinebuster on Van Dam to slow the action down. A “This is awesome” chant breaks out as Van Dam comes back to life. The Shield interferes from the floor again, allowing Ambrose to roll Van Dam up. 1-2…kickout. Crowd semi-bought into that as the finish. RVD with a big kick off the ropes onto Ambrose. He follows that up with Rolling Thunder. He climbs to the top and hits the Five Star Frogsplash. As he goes to pin him, Reigns hits him with a blatant spear, causing the DQ. The Shield then roll out to the floor and head out through the crowd. Big Show and Mark Henry come into the ring to check on RVD, who seems disappointed in winning by disqualification.

Winner via Disqualification: Rob Van Dam

-After the match, we head back up to the panel where Booker T, HBK and Vickie Guerrero share their thoughts on what we just witnessed in the RVD vs. Dean Ambrose WWE U.S. Championship match.

-We take anoother visit to the Social Media Lounge. Renee Young urges fans to tweet with the hashtag SummerSlam. She also tells us to go to Tout. She then introduces some Touts where fans discuss their favorite SummerSlam moments.

-We head back to ringside and the announce team shows us the ring crew setting up the ring for the “Ring of Fire” match between Bray Wyatt and Kane tonight. This leads to a video package highlighting the history of the Kane/Wyatt feud.

WWE SummerSlam 2013 PPV

-The SummerSlam 2013 pay-per-view is officially underway! Get ready for a big show tonight, folks!

-The show opens with the host for tonight, The Miz, coming out to the top of the stage. The Miz does some of his catch phrases and promises tonight will be the most “Must See” SummerSlam in history. He talks about the two main events tonight until he interupted by Fandango’s music. Fandango and his dancer come out and dance around at the top of the stage as Miz says “really?” a few times.

-From there, we go to a video package for the intro of the show.

-We shoot back live to the arena. Lilian Garcia introduces Jo Jo from “Total Divas” to sing the national anthem. And she belts it out to start the show as an elaborate set up behind her appears to make it more dramatic. Beautiful voice on ole’ Jo Jo!

Ring Of Fire Match: Kane vs. Bray Wyatt

Winner: Bray Wyatt

After The Match:

After the match, Harper and Rowan drag Kane from the ring and place him on a set of ring steps in front of Wyatt who’s sitting in his rocking chair. Harper and Rowan grab the top of the steps, and Wyatt tells Kane that he’s made his bed before Rowan and Harper bring the steps down on Kane’s head. Bray lights the lantern, and the lights go out as the Wyatt Family drag Kane to the back.

Damien Sandow vs. Cody Rhodes

Sandow comes out first. He cuts a promo on his way to the ring trashing Rhodes. Out next is Rhodes, who no longer has the mustache. The announcers plug the upcoming edition of The JBL & Cole show on YouTube to find out why Rhodes no longer has a mustache. Rhodes enters the ring and these two immediately go at it.

From there, Sandow throws Rhodes into the ring post arm-first. Sandow then rolls Rhodes up for another two count. Rhodes hits his Cross Rhodes finisher out of nowhere and gets the 1-2-3. Rhodes wins.

Winner: Cody Rhodes

World Heavyweight Championship: Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. Christian

We see the special Christian video package before the challenger makes his way to the ring. Out next, with a big ass black eye is the champion, Alberto Del Rio. The announcers explain that the black eye came from the Killswitch Christian hit on him on SmackDown this past Friday night. Lilian Garcia makes the introductions, but before she can introduce Del Rio, he stops her and insists she do so in spanish. She obliges. The bell rings and here we go.

Del Rio kicks at the back of Christian’s leg and hits a couple of big right hands to the side of Christian’s head. Christian fights it for a long time, but eventually has to tap.

After The Match:

After the win, Renee Young interviews Del Rio in the ring. Del Rio talks about being the hero for the latino community. Guess that sets up Rey Mysterio as his next feud, eh? Maybe with Ricardo Rodriguez as a babyface spanish announcer for Rey? Just guessing! Great match.

Lex Luger Speaks On Being On WCW Nitro Debut Show, WWE Title Rumors, Religion

4

The following are highlights from a recent interview with wrestling legend Lex Luger.

On whether or not he was informed that he would win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 10: “Contrary to what people believe, I was never told I was going to be given any kind of title. The only discussion me and Vince [McMahon] had was what to do with the Lex Luger character in the future if he DID decide to put the title on me. But no, I was never told I’d be WWF Champion at any point.”

On appearing on the debut edition of WCW Monday Nitro: “On reflection, that was a pretty bad move by me. Me and Vince had a verbal agreement. I worked for him for 6 months without any sort of contract as my contract had expired. My mistake came when WCW signed me. I didn’t get to have a conversation with Vince to tell him I’d be leaving. But that was 100% my fault.”

On finding religion later in his life: “I feel wonderful now. I got to a point in my life where I realized that God is God and I’m not. I was beneath rock bottom but for whatever reason God put people in my life and he showed me the way. A very supernatural experience and that’s the only way I can put it.”

WWE House Show Results (8/16): Portland, Oregon

7

The following are results from the WWE live event in Portland, Oregon. The event was held on Friday, August 16, 2013.

-WWE RAW General Manager Brad Maddox was the host and ring announcer for the evening. At the top of the show, Maddox announced that WWE Champion John Cena would not be appearing as advertised for the second consecutive WWE live event. He told fans they could receive refunds upon request. He then announced a Battle Royal where the winner would receive a title shot against World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio later in the show.

-Daniel Bryan won the Battle Royal. The match featured R-Truth, Rob Van Dam, Ryback, Daniel Bryan, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Dolph Ziggler, Big E. Langston, Mark Henry and Christian. As noted, with the victory, Bryan earns himself a title shot later in the show against World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio.

-Kane defeated Luke Harper via Disqualification. Fun match. Crowd was very into the Wyatt Family here in Portland. The finish came when Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan interfered, causing the disqualification. The match was kept relatively short.

-AJ Lee defeated Kaitlyn via Submission to retain the WWE Divas Championship. The crowd was surprisingly very into this match. AJ got a lot of heat as the heel, and Kaitlyn got a lot of cheers as the babyface. Needless to say, the finish in this one wasn’t botched nearly as bad as it was on RAW this past Monday night.

-R-Truth defeated Ryback via Pinfall. Shocking upset here. Ryback basically dominated Truth throughout the entire duration of the match. The finish came when Truth simply managed to roll-up Ryback for the 1-2-3.

-Christian, Mark Henry & Rob Van Dam defeated The Shield (Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns) via Pinfall. Very fun match. The crowd was very hot for Van Dam. The finish came when Henry hit Rollins with the World’s Strongest Slam, and Van Dam followed up with his Five Star Frog Splash for the 1-2-3. This was said to be the match of the night.

-Dolph Ziggler defeated Big E. Langston via Pinfall in a No-Disqualification Match. The fans were allowed to vote on the stipulation in this one, thus the No-DQ rules. Due to the fact that neither man could be disqualified, there was use of a lot of “foreign objects,” such as kendo sticks and steel chairs. The finish came when Ziggler hit his Zig-Zag finisher on Langston for the 1-2-3.

-CM Punk defeated Curtis Axel (with Paul Heyman) via Pinfall. Heyman got, by far, the loudest heel response from the fans in Portland. Crowd didn’t seem to care much about Axel either way. Finish came when Punk hit his finisher for the 1-2-3. The heat for Heyman at one point was so loud that fans were having trouble hearing him cut his promo.

-Daniel Bryan defeated Alberto Del Rio via Disqualification. Because of the DQ win for Bryan, Del Rio managed to walk out of Portland as the World Heavyweight Champion. Crowd was very into Bryan as a babyface, to the surprise of no one. Was said to be a very good technical match that the crowd thoroughly enjoyed.
