Robbie E. Speaks On His Big Break In TNA, Title Runs, The Movie “The Wrestler”

1

TNA Impact Wrestling star Robbie E. recently spoke with the What Culture website about a number of wrestling-related topics. Below are highlights from the interview.

On his big break in TNA: “I had a tryout with them through Terry Taylor, and at the time they were looking for…the Jersey Shore Show was big, I’m from there: you’re sitting here…look at me! So they kind of just put two and two together and when they said “OK let’s see if he can get it done in the ring” and fortunately enough for me it clicked, they offered me a contract the day of my try out match.”

On sorta-kinda being in the movie “The Wrestler”: “You know, I was but I wasn’t. Here’s a little secret; I was planned to be in it, my name was listed and everything, but I actually ended up getting an overseas tour. So like a few days before, I wasn’t able to be there for filming, but somehow my name still ended up in the credits, so I kind of got the best of both worlds.”

On his best moments during his X-Division and T.V. Title runs: “Honestly, the highlights were of course the days that I won them: beating Jay Lethal for the X-Division title at Turning Point and then one year later beating Eric Young for the Television Title. But through my TV Title run I had great runs with RVD and D-Von, I got some wins…which I haven’t gotten in a while.”

SESCOOPS.COM reader Iron Sheik sent along the following:

HELLO TO ALL THE INTELLIGENT FANS!

We are back with a second round of funding to ensure that the story of the man, the myth, THE LEGEND the IRON SHEIK can be brought to the people.

We missed the mark of our first fundraising efforts, but we believe due to the overwhelming momentum we gained in the last week of our campaign that we can raise the funds needed to complete this film.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We need your help to raise the funds to finish this film. We raised a little over $40,000 in our last campaign, but that will not cover the costs of post production, music rights, stock footage rights, or legal. Right now this project is in the balance, we have restructured our financing plan, tightened the belt, and have come up with a new budget that we feel can bring this project to you, the fans, the most cost effectively.

THE PERKS:

We have also streamlined the perks. After much interaction with our wonderful funders we’ve decided to make our perks very simple and clear.

TO THE AMAZING FUNDERS OF OUR FIRST CAMPAIGN:

We want to insure that EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU will get your perks in short order. We can’t thank all of you enough. With your help we raised desperately needed funds that are going towards the completion of this film. With a little bit more we can really make this a great project, worthy of the man like the Iron Sheik.

Please forward, Tweet and share this link to all of your networks- http://igg.me/at/IronSheikdoc

Looking forward to making this a reality.

E! Renews Total Divas, Additional Episodes To Air This November

14

The following press release was issued on Wednesday:

E! AND WWE EXTEND DEBUT SEASON OF NEW HIT SERIES “TOTAL DIVAS” WITH SIX ADDITIONAL EPISODES

“Total Divas” Has Grown Each Week Since Its Premiere And Hit A Series High With 1.7 Million Total Viewers In Its Most Recent New Episode On Sunday Night

Los Angeles, CA, August 14, 2013 – E! has picked up six additional episodes of its popular new series “Total Divas,” which offers the first-ever look into the world of the WWE Divas both inside and outside the ring, bringing season one to a total of 14 episodes. The product of two entertainment giants, E! and WWE, teaming with reality hit maker Bunim-Murray Productions (“Keeping Up With The Kardashians”), “Total Divas” has successfully attracted infatuated pop culture enthusiasts who have made the series an instant hit after only three episodes. The series’ sexy stars have let cameras into their glamorous private lives, their sometimes rocky romances and behind the scenes of their hectic sports entertainment careers. Building on its ratings success and enormous social media buzz, E!’s “Total Divas” will continue with new episodes airing Sundays at 10pm with a summer finale on Sunday, September 15 at 10pm. The six additional episodes will debut this fall starting Sunday, November 17 at 10pm ET/PT only on E!

“Our audience has embraced ‘Total Divas’ in a big way and we’re excited to build on the show’s tremendous momentum with six additional episodes,” said Jeff Olde, Executive Vice President, Program Development. “For many women, WWE Divas possess aspirational personalities because of their glamorous lifestyles and international stardom, but it’s their genuine and dynamic personal lives that have truly captivated so many viewers.”

The series was an instant hit with audiences, delivering 1.3 million total viewers in its debut, and has built week-to-week since with its most recent episode on 8/11/13 delivering 1.7 million viewers. The third episode of the show on 8/11 was its strongest yet in all key 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 targets including women and men as well as households.

With only three episodes having aired, “Total Divas” has a lot more to share this season as the lines between the Diva personal lives and ring lives begin to get blurred. Nattie’s (WWE Diva Natalya) relationship with her long-time fiancé WWE Superstar Tyson Kidd hits a rough patch as the flame that brought them together starts to flicker. What was supposed to be smooth sailing to a fairytale wedding has become a rocky road and a relationship in trouble. Meanwhile the devilish duo, “The Bella Twins,” are separating for the very first time. Brie Bella is moving to a quieter home base in Phoenix with boyfriend WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan, which leaves her sister Nikki Bella and her boyfriend WWE Superstar John Cena living their life of luxury across the country in Tampa. The women also struggle to mend their strained relationship with their father, who was in and out of their lives growing up, and deal with body issues as Nikki gets dubbed “the fat twin” by “haters” on social media.

Tag-team partners Trinity (WWE Diva Naomi) and Ariane (WWE Diva Cameron) who make up “The Funkadactyls” are at odds when they begin to question what each other bring to the ring and how it will further their individual careers. On their own, Trinity is at odds with her fiancé WWE Superstar Jimmy Uso when she refuses to wear her engagement ring so she is more appealing to male fans, and Ariane is considering a breast augmentation which requires her to stop wrestling for an extended period of time, thus taking “The Funkadactlys” out of the spotlight they have worked so hard to get into.

Back at NXT, the WWE developmental system, the Divas-in-training are being put through the ringer at performance boot camp and while JoJo is questioning her dedication to becoming a Diva, fiery redhead Eva Marie is continuing to make herself known in the sports entertainment business for all the wrong reasons as she defies the rules set by WWE, flirts with veteran Superstars while hiding her engagement, bites off more than she can chew with performance promises she can’t keep and bumps heads with the big bosses.

Total Divas is produced by WWE and Bunim-Murray Productions. Jon Murray, Gil Goldshein, Jeff Jenkins and Russell Jay are Executive Producers for Bunim-Murray Productions.

The fall premiere of “Total Divas” begins November 17th at 10pm ET/PT. And don’t miss this summer’s new episodes of “Total Divas” every Sunday at 10pm ET/PT on E!

Triple H Speaks On Daniel Bryan’s Popularity, Hulk Hogan’s Place In WWE History

30

The following are highlights from a recent interview with Triple H from NBC Sports Radio out of Los Angeles:

On Daniel Bryan’s popularity: “I think this is a moment in time – is the torch being passed? Or, is this the moment where John Cena continues to cement himself as the face of WWE for this generation?

“I think with Daniel Bryan, there’s an honesty there. Daniel is what he is – a frumpy-looking, long-haired, bearded guy who doesn’t really apologize for how he looks, but he’s that good in the ring. Historically, when you look back at the business, when you got past the flamboyant Hogan/Macho Man Era, you had the Bret Hart technician, a lot less hype and personality and charisma (who let the in-ring speak). And there’s kind of those shifts back-and-forth… Maybe that’s what it is – I do think Daniel is the cross-over of so many of those factors that make a Superstar big. He’s got charisma, he’s got personality, he’s different, he’s his own man. He’s just Daniel Bryan. And he’s damn good and damn exciting at what he does”

On Hulk Hogan in the WWE 2K14 video game and his place in WWE history: “Hulk Hogan will forever be the face of a generation of WWE Superstars. I don’t know that there’s a more recognizable guy – there’s Rock, there’s Hogan, there’s Cena, and there’s these recognizable characters that become household names. And Hulk Hogan is one of the biggest of all-time – a true legend in our business. No matter what, he will always have that place in the WWE Universe. Always.”

Daniel Bryan Speaks On Future WWE Stars, SummerSlam Preparation & More

14

WWE Superstar and the man who will challenge John Cena for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam this Sunday on pay-per-view, Daniel Bryan, recently spoke with Zap2It.com about a number of topics. Below are highlights from the discussion.

On future stars in WWE currently working in the developmental system: “You know, it’s hard for me to say because I haven’t seen all those guys. Someone I have a soft spot in my heart for is Sami Zayn. He wrestled as El Generico in the independents. In the ring he’s just phenomenal. I saw a couple of his matches with Antonio Cesaro and it’s some of the best wrestling this year, as far as I’m concerned, even compared to the stuff you see on WWE TV. If he can get the personality to match his wrestling skills, I haven’t seen any of his interviews, but he has loads of personality as a human being and I can only imagine if he’s able to transfer that onto television he should be a big star, I’d hope. But you never know, because size might hold him back for a little bit, but talent always shines through.”

On the current WWE roster featuring smaller wrestlers such as himself: “Yeah and part of that is because fans no longer accept the slow-paced wrestling matches. Most of the big guys can’t wrestle the action-packed matches. That’s what makes somebody like Big Show so incredibly special. You see him and he’s seven feet tall and between 450 and 500 pounds. Yet, when I was wrestling him I’d dropkick him in the knee and he’d flip all the way around. He’s an incredibly agile guy, and he’s been wrestling since 1995. The same goes for Kane, who goes to the top rope. If you’re a big guy and you can’t move well, you’re not going to last long in the modern WWE system.”

On whether or not he’s doing anything different to prepare for his match with John Cena at SummerSlam: “No, actually. One of the things that’s the hardest about big matches like this is to try to not do anything differently. People often think ‘Oh, I gotta amp up my training,’ A lot of times that leads to injuries and the last thing you want to do is get injured right before a big match. So for me, it’s just a matter of doing the same thing. More than anything else, it’s just mentally preparing. With nerves and the position we’re being put in, the thing that gets me more tired than anything is being nervous. I don’t ever get tired when I’m wrestling, except for when I have a lot of nerves. I’d like to think at SummerSlam I’ll be very relaxed, because these are the kinds of moments you want to be relaxed for so you can enjoy it and soak it all in and just have a great time going out there and doing what you love to do.”

We see a video package, highlighting the history of the Wyatt Family feud with Kane. After the video package, Bray Wyatt cut a promo while sitting in his rocking chair in the middle of the ring. Out of nowhere, Kane’s pyro exploded and he appeared behind Wyatt. Kane proceeded to attack Wyatt, however the numbers-game caught up with Kane, and the three-on-one beatdown began. The Wyatt Family beat Kane down and left him laying in the ring to end the opening segment.

-Christian defeated Damien Sandow via Pinfall. Christian picked up the victory with a roll-up for the 1-2-3. After the match, Christian hit Sandow with a spear. This led to Alberto Del Rio coming out and attacking Christian from behind. Del Rio tells Christian he will never win the World Heavyweight Championship again. As Del Rio attempted to continue the onslaught on Christian, setting him up for his Cross Arm-Breaker finishing hold, Christian managed to escape and reverse it into the Killswitch. Christian then left Del Rio laying as he had the upper-hand.

-We shoot backstage and new WWE interview girl Renee Young is with Rob Van Dam. Van Dam talks about the United States Championship match he’ll have against current champion and Shield leader Dean Ambrose at the WWE SummerSlam Kickoff Show this Sunday. RVD is then joined backstage by Mark Henry and The Big Show. Apparently all three will team up tonight to take on the trio of Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns – The Shield.

-A.J. Lee and Layla defeated Kaitlyn and Natalya via Pinfall. The finish in this Divas Tag-Team match came when current WWE Divas Champion A.J. hit Kaitlyn with a running knee to the temple for the 1-2-3.

-We shoot backstage again, and this time Young is with Ryback. Ryback cut a short promo and then out of nowhere decided to attack some random producer who happened to be walking around backstage. Ryback beat the guy up for no apparent reason other than the fact that he’s a bully.

-Rob Van Dam, Mark Henry and Big Show defeated Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns via Pinfall. Was said to be a very good match that was given a lot of time to play out. RVD worked his ass off in this one. Crowd ate up every minute of it. The finish here came when Big Show hit Ambrose with the Knockout Punch, which led to Van Dam coming off the top-rope with the Five Star Frog Splash for the 1-2-3.

-The Miz defeated Jack Swagger (with Antonio Cesaro and Zeb Colter) via Pinfall. At one point during the match, the referee ejected both Cesaro and Colter from ringside, forcing them to head to the back and leave Swagger alone with Miz in the ring. The finish came when Miz rolled up Swagger from behind for the 1-2-3.

-Curtis Axel (with Paul Heyman) defeated Zack Ryder via Pinfall. The crowd went nuts for Ryder, to the surprise of nobody. Was said to be a pretty damn good match. The finish came when Axel hit Ryder with his Neckbreaker Finishing move for the 1-2-3. After the match, Paul Heyman cut a promo. We don’t have a lot of specifics on the promo, although Heyman’s focus was about how Punk would lose this Sunday at SummerSlam to “The Beast,” who is also “The Best” – Brock Lesnar.

-Daniel Bryan defeated Wade Barrett in a No Disqualification Match via Pinfall. A whole lot of action went down in this match, which served as the main event of the evening. Early on in the match, Vince McMahon came to ringside. As Bryan had Barrett in the Yes! Lock submission hold, McMahon interfered and pulled the referee out of the ring before he could call for the bell to give Bryan the win. This allowed Barrett to gain the upper-hand in the offensive momentum of the match. McMahon called out Brad Maddox to the ring, and Maddox came down with a referee shirt on and entered the ring. Barrett hit Bryan with his finishing move, The Bull Hammer, but Bryan managed to kick out of the pinfall attempt that followed. As McMahon started to take the referee shirt off of the original referee, Mike Chioda, the wonderful sound of Motorhead hit the louder speakers, as Triple H made his way to the ring. This led to Bryan putting Barrett through a table. Bryan then followed up with a flying headbutt off the top-rope and HHH, who will serve as the referee for the Bryan vs. John Cena main event at SummerSlam this Sunday, made the count. 1-2-3. Bryan wins. After the match, the WWE Championship Money In The Bank briefcase owner, Randy Orton, came out to the top of the stage and stared down Bryan as the show went off the air.

Jim Ross Blog: SummerSlam Predictions, Big Show’s Return, Lesnar/Punk

8

Jim Ross updated the blog section of his website following Monday’s SummerSlam “go-home” edition of WWE RAW. Below are highlights:

On final SummerSlam hype on RAW: “Good focus on the two, primary ‘money matches’ for Summer Slam Monday night on RAW. Fans can only retain and process X amount of info and the two matches that most fans perceive will drive the PPV got ample attention.”

On HHH as special ref for the SummerSlam main event: “Adding HHH as the special referee to the John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan WWE Title bout is an intriguing ‘wrinkle.’ This development adds a provocative element to the already anticipated bout that is now even more unpredictable. There are several moving parts at play in this bout that I can’t begin to intelligently analyze. (Make your own joke on that one.)”

On his prediction for the winner of the SummerSlam main event: “I’ve thought for a while that Daniel Bryan will win the WWE title at Summer Slam but now I’m not as convinced. However, I’ll dance with who ‘brung’ me. In non Okie talk, that means that I’m sticking with my original thought…Bryan wins.”

On how Vince McMahon and Randy Orton play into the main event picture at SummerSlam: ” Where MITB winner Randy Orton, Referee HHH, the McMahon Family, injuries, etc fit on this ride is anyone’s guess. I’m curious as to all these potential scenarios that I’ll get to watch live inside the Staples Center from the 2K Sports suite.”

On the Brock Lesnar vs. CM Punk match at SummerSlam: “Thought the ending to RAW with CM Punk getting the upper hand on BROCK LESNAR (in Happy Heyman’s voice) and the Meyer Lansky of the WWE himself was compelling. I Tweeted a few days ago @JRsBBQ that I felt like this bout would be the most physical, one on one match in the WWE thus far this year. I am anxious to see how this match is competed stylistically. I’m still of the belief that it could end in a submission or a stoppage. I’m a Lesnar lean on this main event bout.”

On Big Show’s physical appearance during his return at RAW: “How great did Big Show look Monday night? I was impressed and know how diligently that he has been training and adjusting his diet. Bravo to the big guy who, when on a recruiting visit, enjoyed a home cooked meal in our then Connecticut home, broke a dining room tile (Dang, Italian tile, anyway :)) and we closed the deal over my wife’s homemade biscuits and a heaping helping of apple butter.”
