Jim Ross Blog: SummerSlam Predictions, Big Show’s Return, Lesnar/Punk

8

Jim Ross updated the blog section of his website following Monday’s SummerSlam “go-home” edition of WWE RAW. Below are highlights:

On final SummerSlam hype on RAW: “Good focus on the two, primary ‘money matches’ for Summer Slam Monday night on RAW. Fans can only retain and process X amount of info and the two matches that most fans perceive will drive the PPV got ample attention.”

On HHH as special ref for the SummerSlam main event: “Adding HHH as the special referee to the John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan WWE Title bout is an intriguing ‘wrinkle.’ This development adds a provocative element to the already anticipated bout that is now even more unpredictable. There are several moving parts at play in this bout that I can’t begin to intelligently analyze. (Make your own joke on that one.)”

On his prediction for the winner of the SummerSlam main event: “I’ve thought for a while that Daniel Bryan will win the WWE title at Summer Slam but now I’m not as convinced. However, I’ll dance with who ‘brung’ me. In non Okie talk, that means that I’m sticking with my original thought…Bryan wins.”

On how Vince McMahon and Randy Orton play into the main event picture at SummerSlam: ” Where MITB winner Randy Orton, Referee HHH, the McMahon Family, injuries, etc fit on this ride is anyone’s guess. I’m curious as to all these potential scenarios that I’ll get to watch live inside the Staples Center from the 2K Sports suite.”

On the Brock Lesnar vs. CM Punk match at SummerSlam: “Thought the ending to RAW with CM Punk getting the upper hand on BROCK LESNAR (in Happy Heyman’s voice) and the Meyer Lansky of the WWE himself was compelling. I Tweeted a few days ago @JRsBBQ that I felt like this bout would be the most physical, one on one match in the WWE thus far this year. I am anxious to see how this match is competed stylistically. I’m still of the belief that it could end in a submission or a stoppage. I’m a Lesnar lean on this main event bout.”

On Big Show’s physical appearance during his return at RAW: “How great did Big Show look Monday night? I was impressed and know how diligently that he has been training and adjusting his diet. Bravo to the big guy who, when on a recruiting visit, enjoyed a home cooked meal in our then Connecticut home, broke a dining room tile (Dang, Italian tile, anyway :)) and we closed the deal over my wife’s homemade biscuits and a heaping helping of apple butter.”

WWE Studios To Distribute “Road To Paloma” Later This Year

4

WWE Studios is teamed up with Anchor Bay Films to acquire distribution for “Road To Paloma,” which will star Jason Momoa (“Game of Thrones,” Conan the Barbarian).

Here is a synopsis of the film:

“In Road To Paloma, Momoa stars as Robert Wolf, a Native American, who is being hotly pursued by the FBI for taking the law into his own hands after thugs rape and kill his mother on their reservation. Wolf crosses paths with Cash (Robert Homer Mollohan), a down and out musician, and an unlikely bond is formed as they motorcycle across the vast highways of the American West in search of redemption.”

Michael Luvisi, President of WWE Studios, said this about the movie:

“Jason is a genuine triple threat with his writing, directing and, of course, acting talent. He has delivered a gritty, provocative and powerful film. We couldn’t be more excited to introduce it to audiences through our continued collaboration with our partners at Anchor Bay.

The film will be released in the United States later this year.

Hulk Hogan Q&A: Chances Of Wrestling Again, Movie On His Life, Issues With Bret Hart

16

TNA Impact Wrestling star Hulk Hogan recently sat down for a Q&A with the Cape Breton Post, to discuss a number of topics, including the rumored movie on his life and his thoughts on a possible return to the ring. Below are highlights from the discussion:

CP: The big headline lately is that you’re developing a movie about your life — is this true?

HH: It’s not really true. It’s a TMZ headline…. What happened was, I was going through LaGuardia Airport … this guy asked me a bunch of dumb questions for TMZ and he goes, ’Eh, when are they going to do a bio about your life?’ And I said, ’It’s already in development.’ So now everybody’s rambling like it’s a feature film already. But the truth is … two kids that are writers in L.A., hot young writers, they did a four-page treatment and I’m telling you they nailed it — they nailed it like they were living in my shoes — and I gave them the green light to go ahead and write the first pass. But that’s all it is.

CP: When you say they nailed it, what did they capture?

HH: First off, they’ve got wrestling in their blood, they were huge Hulk Hogan fans, so they followed not only the smoke and mirrors that you see on TV, but they followed personally what I was going through: the divorce, the car accident, all the drama, the eight back surgeries, the hip replacements, the knee replacements.

CP: TMZ had asked you if your son would play you onscreen and you said that sounds like a good idea.

HH: I said he’d be perfect for it but I think we need a serious, serious actor that knows what he’s doing. You know who I thought would be good? That guy that did that action movie, ’Thor’ (Chris Hemsworth).

CP: How do you feel about your milestone 60th birthday (which was this past weekend)?

HH: Pretty good, because I’m eternally youthful and I’m 60 years young. I’ll take my shirt off in front of any 25 year old and I guarantee I’m built better than they are.

CP: Where are you at in terms of your relationship with the ring? Are you content to be outside of it, behind the mike and doing other things, or do you want to get back inside?

HH: I would love to be in the main event and running around the ring going crazy, but the truth is, I don’t want to break anything else. And I had my day, I had my time, I made a pretty good statement, and I think that just being able to be around it — working with Impact Wrestling, I’m still on TV every Thursday night, from 9 to 11 on Spike TV — I just get to live vicariously through the young guys.

CP: You’ve had some feuds with other wrestlers over the years — do some of them still stand or do you get over them? Like with Bret Hart, for instance. I’m asking because he’s Canadian.

HH: No, that’s all on his end. I love Bret. Whatever he did, I forgive him, whatever I did, I forgive myself. I just can’t keep that negative stuff in my spiritual structure. I’ve just basically got nothing but love for Bret Hart. He’s a great guy.

Lex Luger Talks About Drugs In Wrestling, Relationship With Ric Flair & More

4

Wrestling legend Lex Luger recently took part in a Q&A session with WrestleZone.com to promote his new book, “Wrestling with the Devil.” Here are some highlights of what he said about:

If He Would Recommend PED Usage: Absolutely not. Advances in today’s nutritional science when strictly adhered to offers young athletes tremendous results without resorting to PEDs.

Overcoming His Paralysis: I wasn’t able to totally overcome it, but what I am able to do today is a supernatural miracle. It’s a real testimony to what God can do when we allow him to live in and through us. He carries us through the storm.

His Relationship From Ric Flair: I always have had and still do have an excellent relationship with Ric Flair. He’s a tremendous performer. He was instrumental in my development as a wrestler. I have a lot of gratitude to him for that. Ric Flair is one of the best of all time.

The One Big Positive From WCW: The unbelievable ratings we got, and being a part of the highly successful Monday night ratings war between WCW and WWE was one of the highlights of my career and a lot of fun.

John Cena Undergoing Elbow Surgery After SummerSlam

31

As we reported yesterday, current WWE Champion John Cena’s elbow injury is worse than is being let on. While the specific severity of the injury is unclear at this point, it is known that his arm is in really bad shape.

According to reports, Cena’s injury is bad enough that last week WWE officials made the decision for him not to wrestle until the SummerSlam pay-per-view this Sunday. Additionally, Cena is reportedly going to be taking time off after the match to have surgery on the arm, which could keep him out of action for a while.

Whether or not this means Daniel Bryan will win the WWE Championship at SummerSlam is anyone’s guess, but odds are pretty likely that he will if Cena won’t be around after the pay-per-view. Then again, Money In The Bank winner Randy Orton could always walk out of the building as WWE Champion as well.
