McMahon Not Liking The Way Christian Looks, Details On Past HBK/Angle Altercation

36

Former WWE head writer Alex Greenfield recently spoke to John Pollock of The Fight Network this week to discuss a number of WWE related topics. Below are highlights from their discussion:

On Vince McMahon wanting to censor Christian’s face on TV with a blue dot: “Right before I started, there was a big show, I think it might have been in Toronto. Christian was just so completely over, and everybody thought he was going to get a push at, I think it was the World Heavyweight Championship at that point. We were on the plane one time shortly after I started, and Vince was just like “God damn, I just don’t like his face. His face really bothers me.” I was like, “He’s ugly, Vince?” “No, it’s not that he’s ugly, it’s just, I don’t know, it’s ratty! You know what we should do? That Kennedy gimmick.” And we’re all like, “What?” Some see-on of the Kennedy fortune I guess got arrested for rape in the 1990s at some point. When the woman who was accusing him was on the stand, all of the networks put a blue dot over her face. Vince was like, “God damn, you know what we should do? We should put a blue dot over his face whenever he comes out.” It was the flight to Sheffield, England, also the flight where the Spirit Squad idea was invented. This was a whole flight of bad ideas.”

On a backstage segment Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels had in 2005: “I always found Shawn to be an entitled prick. He tried this s*** with Angle one night; Angle wasn’t having it, and threw him around like a rag-doll. I remember I was supposed to do some sort of stand-up interview, a backstage deal with Angle afterward, and Shawn comes up like a house of fire, like “You were taking liberties!” And it’s because Shawn was booked to lose a match and started his overselling nonsense, because that’s the kind of thing he always did because he’s a guy who hated losing. I don’t argue with anyone that, when he’s working with friends in exactly the way he wants, yes, he’s one of the best performers of all time. That doesn’t mean you’re one of the best performers of all time, though, if you can’t do it with people who aren’t your friends.”

CM Punk Talks Brock Lesnar, Undertaker, Steve Austin Wrestling Again

8

WWE Superstar CM Punk spoke to Jimmy Traina of Sports Illustrated this week to hype Sunday’s SummerSlam pay-per-view. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

The Buildup To His Match Against Brock Lesnar: I think we’re doing what we’re supposed to be doing. We’re selling tickets and we’re selling pay-per views. I think behind the scenes a lot of people want to see this match and I’m excited for it. It’s not every day you get to wrestle somebody that can push you and make you better. I think there’s a lot of eyes on us that normally wouldn’t be because people want to see what I can do. It’s an interesting dynamic.

The Challenges Fighting Brock Lesnar: There are always going to be detractors who will say I don’t look like I’ll be able to hang with Brock Lesnar. But Brock’s a freak of nature and I don’t know anybody who looks like they can “hang” with Brock Lesnar. But anyone can be choked out in seven seconds.

His Match Against The Undertaker At WrestleMania: I think everybody is always selling me short and then I always prove them wrong. It keeps me pissed off and that’s where I need to be, I guess. I’m sick and tired of pulling main event matches and not being in the main event at WrestleMania. Eventually it’s just gonna get to the point of, “OK, I deserve to play with this toy, you’re not gonna let me play with it, then I’m gonna find some other toys to play with.” It gets me down when I really think about it and analyze it, but in the end it keeps me sharp and like I said, pissed off. But I don’t think I’m the guy you want pissed off forever.

If He Voices These Concerns To Vince McMahon: : Absolutely. All the time. We have conversations about it. Hell, if you’re in this business and don’t want to be in the main event at WrestleMania you shouldn’t be in this business. This past WrestleMania, I proved it to the one person that I needed to prove it to, that I should’ve been in the main event. I’ve shattered every negative stereotype people had about me. I proved to the one person that mattered that last year’s main event should’ve been mine and that person is me and I don’t give a sh-t about anyone else.

Who He Wants To Wrestle:  I’m in a very unique position. I can have a viable WrestleMania main event with anyone. I can do it with John Cena. I can do it with Daniel Bryan. I can do it with The Undertaker. I can do it with Stone Cold Steve Austin.

If Steve Austin Will Wrestle Again: Yeah, my gut tells me that he will. Whether he makes the right decision or not to wrestle me is up to him.

Punk vs. Austin Seeming Like A Big Money Dream Match: You would hope. They tend to miss the mark on a lot of common sense stuff sometimes.

If He Would Ever Do His Own Reality Show: Reality show? What the hell is reality TV any way? It’s as scripted as anything. I wouldn’t want my life acted out on television in some weird drama. If somebody wants to follow me around with a camera, I do think my life is pretty entertaining on its own without trying to spice it up. But it doesn’t sound like anything I’d sign up for. I do like the small sliver of privacy I’m afforded.

Dolph Ziggler Talks Comedy/Wrestling, Bobby Heenan & More

3

WWES Superstar Dolph Ziggler was interviewed by Jimmy Traina of Sports Illustrated this week to hype Sunday’s SummerSlam pay-per-view. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Getting Into Standup Comedy: When I was 5 years old I wanted to be a WWE superstar. When I was 8 years old I watched Saturday Night Live and I always wanted to be on there and be an entertainer. I’ve be a student of comedy for 20 years now, I just study and watch and go to comedy clubs and open mics and write my own material and try out my material. I’ve actually done stand up a couple of times and I love it. Not only the challenge of it, but the entertainment aspect. I wanna study great guys and wonder why they got the reaction that they did when they did, why are they so successful. Why are guys who are kind of funny getting great reactions, but guys who are really funny not always getting them.

Which Is Harder – Comedy or Wrestling: I would say they’re both pretty cut throa,t and sometimes you’re not gonna hear any reaction and that’s the worst thing that can ever happen. But at least in the WWE, you have another guy out there with you who you can blame. Last year, 80,000 people at WrestleMania, I was having the time of my life, living it up, not nervous at all, just having a great time. A couple of months ago I did my first standup set in front of about 50 people and I was literally shaking when I went on the stage.

The Funniest Wrestler of All Time: Bobby “The Brain” Heenan was better than anyone else at making me laugh. He was sooo good. So damn good at this. He was “The Brain” because he was so smart as a manager, as a commentator as a performer. He could do it all. He knew what to do, not just tell a couple of jokes. He was smart, and that is such a turn on to me as someone you look up to. His job was almost always to make other people look better than they were and he did it better than anyone else.

Total Divas & If He’d Want His Own Reality Show: Even knowing all those people, I think it’s a very intriguing show. When I first watched it, I was like “Wow, I can get into this show.” I would think about doing a reality show. However, as much as I want to be in TV, movies and crossover, I saw those cameras around for a couple of months and it’s huge invasion of your privacy. I’d have to think about it. I wouldn’t mind being a guest star or a bit player, but I’d need 24 hours at home in silence sometimes.

Damien Darling Talks Issues With Tammy Sytch, Sexual/Physical Abuse Claims & More

9

Independent pro wrestling star Damien Darling recently spoke to the folks at #Asked about his past relationship with WWE Hall Of Famer Tammy “Sunny” Sytch. Darling addressed claims by Sytch of physical and sexual abuse, along with many other controversial topics. Below are highlights from the interview:

On her unhappiness and the front she put on for the public: “Just because you go on Facebook, or you go on Twitter and you pretend like you’re so successful and happy, and you’re a Hall of Famer or whatever, that’s not reality. No disrespect to a WWE Hall of Fame ring, but a WWE Hall of Fame ring and a dollar will get you a bag of Doritos at a deli.

“She went to three different rehabs in our relationship. The first time she went to rehab for 30 days … She came out of that rehab and had so much medication, which was over-prescribed for her. Before you know it, you’re filming a show or you’re filming a shoot interview and you’re f**king three pills deep, and you’re not yourself.”

On why their relationship didn’t work out: “I think maybe Tammy thought that she’d have some boyfriend that she could move in with, that would come home from work, and she’d be f**cking passed out drunk. That would wash her, and clean her up, and because she was who she was, would just manage to pull through. That’s not me … One day I came home and she was passed out, and there was an empty bottle of vodka on the floor. The first thing I did was pick up the phone and call WWE, and get one of the representatives that handle their rehab facility on the phone.

“They would have sent a cab right over, would have picked her up and took her right to rehab. WWE rehab is amazing. They will absolutely send a cab to your house, pick you up and find you the best rehab facility in the country.”

On being accused of sexual abusing Sytch: “It was reported in the newspaper by her attorney, who made statements that she had broken ribs. When I first read that on a Monday morning – like the entire world did – the first thing I did was I went to the police department … They pulled me aside and said ‘listen, she was arrested on Friday, she was fine. She was here in custody on Saturday; she was fine. She saw her lawyer on Sunday, and a half hour later, they filled a criminal complaint against you for assault, and for sexual assault … they had her x-rayed, and she had no injuries, and absolutely no signs of any sort of sexual assault. So I was never, ever charged or investigated for anything. Her accusations of me breaking her ribs are just what they are.”

On some of the alleged lies she has told the media: “When she was released from prison – a normal person would maybe call your mom, or your family or your friends – the first thing Tammy did when she was released from prison was call TMZ. She called TMZ and said that she was writing an autobiography and that she was cured of cancer … She accused me of giving her an STD, that was HPV, that turned into cervical cancer. HPV is an STD that could turn into cervical cancer. Only it takes seven to eight years for HVP to actually turn into cervical cancer. So that means that, eight years ago, when I was a freshman in high school – I was not the guy that was banging Tammy Sytch.”

On the final straw in their relationship: “She was arrested six times It really wasn’t until the last, final time that she was arrested in my apartment … I came home, the same thing happened again, only this time it was so f**king violent, and so dangerous … When you have a drunk woman attacking you with bottles, and knives and hammers and whatever else, there’s not a whole lot that you can do. The last time we were together, it was very very dangerous. There was a moment – I’ll be honest, I fell on my ass and broke down and cried. There was a moment where I just had a vision in my mind of newspaper articles of one of us being dead, because it was getting that bad. Like Chris Benoit and Nancy; something crazy. It was dangerous, and I had never been in a relationship like that before.”

Dolph Ziggler Joins The Cast Of The Movie “Me Him Her”

18

WWE Superstar Dolph Ziggler will be appearing in the upcoming Max Landis film, “Me Him Her” – described as a comedy about “sexual identity with three friends exploring love, lust and… sword combat.” The film will also star Landis, Haley Joel Osment, Dustin Milligan, and Emily Meade.

In a statement issued earlier this week, Max Landis said, “It’s completely different than anything I’ve ever written. You usually find me writing what I like to think of as intelligent summer action and genre films. This is deeply personal, and at its most basic level, a generational story about relationships and identity.”

Producers Peter Saraf and Marc Turtletaub added, “Max’s boundless imagination has dreamt up a fantastical world in which real people confront very real emotional issues in a very moving story that is hysterically funny to boot. We are very excited to bring the full Max Landis experience to film lovers everywhere.”

Me Him Her begins shooting later this month in Los Angeles. Here are photos of Dolph Ziggler with his fellow cast members:

Backstage Details On HHH Grooming The Wyatt Family For Major Push

78

According to one source, The Wyatt Family is currently considered a pet project of Triple H in WWE these days. The general consensus within WWE is that HHH is grooming the Wyatt Family for a big push, even more so than the one they are currently riding.

One report claims HHH is specifically grooming them for the spot that was one designated for The Shield. Apparently The Shield is about to be bumped down a notch or two in favor of the Wyatt’s.

Past pet projects of Hunter’s included Kharma and Sin Cara. The general feeling there is both of those projects bombed, so “The Game” is expected to go all out when it comes to getting the Wyatt’s over in a major way.

WWE Referee Talks About Horrible Botched Finish On RAW, His Worst Botched Spot

18

The following are highlights from a recent interview with WWE referee Jimmy Korderas

On Mark Harris’ response on Facebook to the RAW finish: “Yes, I did watch the match up and I did make a comment on Twitter about it last night; it was more tongue in cheek as I, in my Twitter comments, try to make them light and whatnot. I really don’t have a doubt in my mind that the one part in there (Harris’ Fabebook response) where he referred to the ‘former, unemployed ref’ was directed, I think, towards myself but I could be wrong, unless another former ref commented that I didn’t see. If he was directing it towards me, contrary to popular opinion, I am employed; I do have a job actually, it’s just not refereeing in the WWE. You know what, the social media thing, I think, has gotten out of hand and people are using it for the wrong purposes; in this situation, regardless of whose fault it was, or who the blame was put on for what was obviously a messed up finish to that match, sometimes you just got to suck it up and say ‘Hey, chalk it up to experience’ and learn and move on.

One of the biggest things you have to do in this business, especially from a referee standpoint, is be able to take criticism and know not everyone is going to like you. it’s just the way it is. And if you can’t take constructive criticism or a little playful ribbing or anything like that and you have to lash out on social media, maybe this business isn’t for you.”

If he ever had a memorable botched spot as an official: “Which time? I mean, we’re all human; we all make mistakes. It’s unavoidable, especially when you are working I don’t know how many hundreds of matches a year, there’s going to be a mess up here and there; it’s just inevitable. WHat you have to do, like I said, is learn from your mistakes, suck it up and move on. That being said, I remember many years ago there was a match between Lex Lugar and Crush (Brian Adams). The spot was I was taking a bump, I was supposed to be taking a bump in that match and it was basically very simple: Brian had Lugar in a headlock, Lugar shoots him off and Brian runs me over, essentially there’s the ref bump. I just had a brain cramp for some reason and I decided just as Lugar pushed Brian off, I stepped out of the way, kind of like a matador would with a bull. They both stopped and went like ‘WHat the hell just happened here?’ And I’m thinking to myself ‘Ooh, i supposed to be standing there taking a bump.’ And when I got to the back, I heard it; I got an earful but you work. Going forward I said to myself I’m going to make sure I keep my head above me and if it ever happens again you’ve got to think on your feet and not look like a deer in the headlights, which is basically what happened last night.”

The botched finish of RAW with Natalya and AJ Lee: “Going back to last night’s situation, it wasn’t that the mix-up happened, it was the reaction that occurred from it. If he was decisive in his call, regardless of what he called, that would be fine. But he looked confused and that’s what amplified the situation. I know Natalya let go of the Sharpshooter too early or AJ tapped a little late; I don’t know what you want to call it, but t the same time when Mark motioned for the bell, for some reason the bell didn’t ring obviously. I can’t speak as to why it didn’t ring but everybody looked really confused and there could have been an easy way out of it by either emphatically calling for the bell or motioning ‘No, this match continues’, but there was no motioning or reaction whatsoever so that led to more confusion; plus it doesn’t help when you’ve got two guys on commentary who you know are going to rip into you.

Brock Lesnar Claims He’ll Work More WrestleMania Shows, Talks UFC Future

41

WWE Superstar Brock Lesnar recently did a rare interview with the Los Angeles Times as part of his promotional duties for this Sunday’s WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view.

Lesnar talked about the main reason he came back to WWE, which he claimed was because they were willing to be flexible with his schedule. “I left originally because I was a caged animal 300 days a year on the road and they knew that. That was the bottom line – I don’t want to be that person,” Lesnar said. He continued, “I’m at a different stage in my life where I think I’ve earned all that. That was the only way I could make this happen. They [WWE] played ball and hopefully it’s a win-win for both of us. I really do enjoy putting on a show.”

Lesnar, who faces CM Punk at SummerSlam this Sunday on pay-per-view, noted that he will be appearing in “at least a couple more WrestleMania’s” after signing an extension with WWE earlier in 2013.

When the subject switched to UFC, Lesnar said he’s done with that part of his professional life. Lesnar said, “That chapter in my life has come to closure, and I’m comfortable with it.” He continued, “You’ve always got that part in your mind. I do miss it, but I’ve got to keep myself in check. What I went through the last few years was quite traumatic, not being able to fight like I wanted. I got back on the horse way too soon. Coulda, shoulda, woulda.”
