The Friday, October 4, 2013 edition of WWE SmackDown scored a final cable rating of 1.83, according to Nielsen Media Research.
The 1.83 final draw for last Friday, which was the “go-home” edition of the show for Sunday’s WWE Battleground pay-per-view, marks a decrease of the previous week’s 1.89 rating.
Friday’s SmackDown averaged 2.513 million viewers, which was also down from the previous week’s 2.631 million viewers.

The professional wrestling referee is sometimes a lost or overlooked art in our industry. With the attention and spotlight firmly on the athletes performing in-ring, oftentimes its easy to dismiss the importance of an announcer, manager, or especially a referee in regards to the overall puzzle being put together. However, a bad referee can make a good match stink and make an ok match great just by knowing what to do, when, why, and how.
Now, in a very rare opportunity, legendary WWE referee Jimmy Korderas will open up about the ins and outs, rights and wrongs, subtleties and nuances of being a professional wrestling referee in a special seminar on Saturday afternoon, October 19 at 2pm at the IWC’s Iron City Wrestling Acadamy, just south of Pittsburgh, PA. Jimmy Korderas’ WWE career spans 22 years and thousands of marquee matches viewed by millions of people. TNA star Austin Aries was recently interviewed by Mike Mooneyham of The Post and Courier and spoke about never getting the opportunity to work for WWE:
“I don’t worry about that. They’ve had opportunities to sign me, and for whatever reason or measuring stick they were using, they didn’t see fit to give me an opportunity. I don’t know all the ins and outs of those decisions, and I don’t really dwell on it.”
He also commented on Hulk Hogan’s departure from TNA:
“Hogan is doing whatever’s good for Hogan … just like he’s done his whole career and just like he should continue to do. And if that means staying with TNA, great. If that means going to some other venture, then I wish him all the luck.”

The Main Event Finish: Controversy abounds following the WWE PPV Battle Ground Sunday night in Buffalo. Many fans hitting me on Twitter @JRsBBQ with ample venom regarding the finish of the show. Obviously, it was a way to continue a storyline between Bryan and Orton. Pro wrestling creative is more subjective today that ever in my lifetime. Like most theatrical productions that I watch, I enjoyed some aspects of the PPV and wasn’t as enthralled with some of the other content.
The Rhodes Family vs. The Shield The payoff on the personal issue involving the Rhodes clan and the Shield, representing the establishment, was spot on in my view. The spotlight was on Cody Rhodes as it should have been. Now, let’s see where it goes from here and if Cody evolves into the main event level superstar that many feel he is capable of doing.
Loved the post match nuance of the stars, both old and new, congratulating the Rhodes family. Plus, I got the one, Bionic Elbow that I was hoping for from the Dream. There is no doubt that Goldust can still contribute in today’s WWE at least for the short term IE through WM30.

The following are highlights from a recent RVA Magazine interview with former TNA Knockout and WWE Diva Mickie James:
On her TNA Impact Wrestling status: “I can’t really speak on my status right now. Honestly though, I’m not technically under contract with them right now. As far as TNA itself, I wasn’t at the last TV so I can’t speak on that. The company is in the midst of change obviously and that process of changing over.”
On recent changes and pay issues in TNA: “They’ve gone live on the road and they just brought in this new head of talent [John Gaburick] who was with WWE for twenty years or so. I feel like there’s good energy around it, but in the midst of change, people get scared and there’s a bit of that as well. It’s hard to really say. There were rumors and speculation about late paychecks, but my paycheck was never late. It’s not untrue though; I do know that was an issue with some of the people.”
On how the WWE Divas division has changed over the years: “Honestly, when I came in, there was still that Golden Era of Women’s wrestling for WWE. There was Trish [Stratus] and Lita there to legitimately pass that torch of credibility. They were genuine wrestling athletes. They weren’t just characters or beautiful women. They could go in there, wrestle like the men, kick serious ass, and hold that spot. I was very fortunate to have that coming in and be in that transitional phase. As they were leaving, it was myself, Melina, Beth Phoenix; all the girls that kind of grew up on the Indy scene. We all kind of came in that same way, that grass roots kind of way. We fought and clawed our way up the Indy scene to try and make a name for ourselves and build credibility just so WWE would take a look at us in the first place.”
On the WWE Total Divas reality show: “I don’t think that there’s anyone there who legitimately has had that torch passed to them in a way so that’s the main difference to me. There are obviously legit wrestlers like Nattie and I think Alicia Fox is great. I think it’d be great for someone to come in and take that division to a whole new level. I’m not sitting here burying those girls though because obviously they’re on TV, doing a great job, and they have the Divas reality show. I think that show is awesome because it’s giving depth to those characters that you wouldn’t necessarily know anything about other than they are great wrestlers. You don’t know anything about their personal lives and it’s kind of opening that door to get people more emotional invested into them. But yeah, I think having someone pass the torch would be great for those girls.”

Mickie James RETURNING To WWE? + Huge *SPOILERS* For Total Divas [GO >>]
-The official WWE website has a new article up that alludes to the possibility that Rob Van Dam may be “taking some time off” from WWE action following his World Heavyweight Championship loss to Alberto Del Rio at WWE Battleground. The WWE.com article states the following:
“Now, with the golden losses beginning to pile up, a source has indicated that the ECW Original is considering taking some time off. While WWE.com cannot confirm or deny this rumor at this time, it will be interesting to see whether further details will come to light tonight on Monday Night Raw.”
Van Dam is working on a 3-month short-term deal and will be taking an unspecified amount of time off before he returns for another 90 days.
-After the WWE Battleground pay-per-view ended on Sunday night, both Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton eventually got back to their feet after being knocked out by Big Show. Bryan hit his running knee finisher on Orton, and that was about it. Justin Roberts thanked everyone for coming, and reminded the fans that WWE will be returning to the First Niagra Center in Buffalo for a live event in January.

HUGE Update On RVD’s Future In WWE + VINCE MCMAHON On Raw TONIGHT? [>>]
– CM Punk low-blowing Ryback to win their match at Battleground was done because WWE did not want to have either man lose cleanly.
– Several fans who posted live reports from Battleground noted that the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, NY was approximately 1/3 empty, with around 12,000 fans in attendance.
– Regarding the power outage before the main event, WWE’s video wall and set lights went out but the arena lights were not affected. WWE ring announcer Justin Roberts made an announcement to the live crowd about the situation shortly after the outage.

The infamous Reddit user, Dolphins1925, again had an impressive series of predictions for Sunday’s WWE Battleground event. Dolphins predicted victories for Dolph Ziggler, Alberto Del Rio, Curtis Axel, AJ Lee, The Rhodes Family, Bray Wyatt and CM Punk, all of whom won their matches at Sunday’s pay-per-view.
Where things got interesting was the WWE Championship main event between Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan. Dolphins predicted Orton would win, but also noted that there would be a “twist to the match.”
According to one source, WWE may have swerved their employees on the finish of the match specifically because of the recent gambling situation and PPV leaks issue, informing them only of the storyline plan for Big Show to knockout Bryan to assist Orton in victory.
What happened after that is anyone’s guess, but some claim WWE only informed a select few who were actually going to be physically involved in the match that Big Show would also be knocking out Orton, leading to the non-finish everyone saw at the end of the show.

– Following the Rhodes family’s win over The Shield at Battleground, Goldust and Cody’s superstar profiles have been added back to the WWE.com roster page. is now back on the WWE roster after the Rhodes family’s big win last night. – As seen Thursday night on Impact Wrestling Dixie Carter wanted Hulk Hogan to join “Team Dixie,” but the former Impact General Manager told her, “I Quit,” and walked out. Following the show, Carter wrote on Twitter, “You are so fired @HulkHogan!!!”. However, he is still listed as a member of the TNA Wrestling roster.
The WWE Hall of Famer considers that four-year chapter over. Following the event, he wrote on his official Facebook account, “One door closes, another one opens, and I’m ready for my next challenge. Life is good. HH.”
– TNA Women’s Knockout Champion ODB has been named the Knockout of the Month for October. In the following video, the 34-year-old recalls her path to the gold, and vows to stay on top.
“Who’d ever think I’d be named Knockout of the Month? It is great timing that I am Knockout of the Month right now. I just won the Knockout title. It was awesome. I’ve been reffing for four months-when I took that shirt off it felt so good. I knew I was destined to go for the gold,” said ODB.

-WWE RAW General Manager Brad Maddox reacts to the controversy over the outcome of the WWE Championship main event between Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan. Maddox also sells the fact that he was warned by Triple H and Stephanie McMahon over the phone that if anything went wrong, he would be to blame.

– Injured WWE superstar Sheamus appeared at the the USA Network’s “Characters Unite #uniteLIVE Concert to Rock Out Bullying” event over the weekend. He will be out of action until early 2014.
– WWE is cutting back on the number of Blu-Ray releases. Several upcoming WWE projects, including Survivor Series and the RAW 20th Anniversary Box Set were originally scheduled to be released on both DVD & Blu-Ray but will now be DVD-only.
– Tonight’s episode of WWE RAW will take place from Pittsburgh, PA. The show will focus on the fallout from last night’s Battleground pay-per-view, including the still-vacant WWE Championship, Big Show’s involvement in the main event and the Rhodes Family’s victory over The Shield.
Advertised for the show are Triple H, Stephanie, Daniel Bryan, Randy Orton, CM Punk, The Shield, Ryback, Curtis Axel, Paul Heyman, Alberto Del Rio, Dolph Ziggler, The Wyatt Family, Damien Sandow and more. Vince McMahon is also advertised to appear, but he’s been advertised for the past several weeks and has not been on television.

WWE is advertising two Dark Match main events for the live crowd in Pittsburgh: Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton and CM Punk vs. Axel & Heyman in a handicap match.

The following are photos of what was going on inside the First Niagra Center in Buffalo, New York during the power outage at Sunday’s WWE Battleground pay-per-view:
As noted, WWE experienced a major pay-per-view problem on Sunday night in the form of a power outage inside the First Niagra Center in Buffalo, New York just prior to the start of the WWE Championship main event between Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton.
As we reported earlier, the power went out in the arena, which caused all forms of pay-per-view, including the internet pay-per-view, to immediately lose the live feed. For a few minutes, all viewers could see on their screens was a default “Please Stand By” technical difficulties message.

WWE experienced some pay-per-view problems just prior to the start of the WWE Championship main event between Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton at Sunday’s WWE Battleground show.
As the Bryan vs. Orton video package aired prior to the match, the pay-per-view feed cut out and immediately displayed a “We’re experiencing technical difficulties” message to the viewers at home. Apparently this was the case for all pay-per-view providers, including inDemand and DirecTV.
The pay-per-view feed returned after a few minutes, with the crowd in the middle of a “we’ve got power!” chant, and the explanation given by the announce team was that there was a power outage in Buffalo that resulted in the technical difficulties.
According to our live correspondent, Brad Maddox told everyone in the arena that the power would return in approximately three minutes. Apparently there were production crew members scrambling all over the place trying to fix the problem.
