– Sami Zayn vs Angelo Dawkins
Zayn won with a tornado DDT out of the corner.

Round 1 of the NXT Women’s Championship Tournament

Afterwards, the Wyatt Family attacked Ohno and Graves. Neville ran out to help but he was jumped by Dylan and Dawson. The five of them worked over everyone until William Regal made the save. However, Regal couldn’t overcome their numbers either and was beaten down to end the episode.

Post-Taping Segment

– Ryback cut a promo initially putting over NXT. He got the crowd to chant Feed Me More, then said how easy it was to manipulate everyone. He talked about how he should be WWE Champion right now and will be after Payback. He then repeated half of his promo from Raw. Afterward, he put out an open challenge to anyone in the back. Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady came out to answer the challenge. They played off the crowd for a long time while making fun of Ryback. Ryback responded saying “You’re mom and dad, who are clearly brother and sister, must clearly be proud of you two.” Ryback laid Cassady out, leading Amore to try and fast talk his way out of a beating. It failed.

Notes:

– Zayn-Cesaro 2 and the six man tag match are well worth going out of your way to see. Really good stuff. Zayn-Cesaro 2 in particular was especially intense.
– Tom Phillips and Brad Maddox did commentary for episode 1 and 3 while Regal and Tony Dawson handled 2 and 4.
– The next taping is June 20 with Sheamus as the special guest.
– It appears they may have turned Kruger face.
– Axl Keegan was renamed to Mickie Keegan. Likely due to the Curtis Axel rename.
– Dawson and Dylan remind me of an old 80s NWA tag team with their look and the way they work.

Johnson revealed last month in an interview with Access Hollywood that he is getting lean for the role, stating, “It is not about getting big as much as it is about having really lean, dense muscle. And that only comes, by the way, with muscle maturity.”

X-Pac & Konnan Launch Kickstarter Campaign For New Online Lucha Libre Series

5

Kevin Kleinrock (Masked Republic, Wrestling Society X), Sean “X-Pac” Waltman and Konnan are looking to launch a new online lucha libre series, Viva L.A. Lucha. They’ve created a Kickstarter campaign in order to raise $60,000 by July 2nd. To donate and get more information on the project, visit Kickstarter.com.

Here’s their pitch:

From creators/producers of MTV’s WSX & PPV’s Viva La Lucha- dedicated to creating tomorrow’s stars it’s the 1st fan funded lucha series

The goal of Viva L.A. Lucha is twofold: First, it seeks to create an environment where wrestlers who specialize in either the Mexican “lucha libre” form of professional wrestling or the more “traditional”/”WWE style” form can compete with and against each other as a way to become experts in both styles, helping both the individual performers and the companies who need well trained wrestlers to produce their television shows all while ensuring the brightest future for the lucha art form. Our second goal is to give fans and viewers a unique program that will deliver incredible action and entertainment as tomorrow’s stars are groomed in front of their eyes today (with incredible “groomers” as you will see below)! And, with the unique rewards we have created for this campaign, backers can have an unprecedented say in WHO a wrestling show will feature, HOW some of the talent is used, and get to SEE the actual television taping as it happens including what is normally restricted behind-the-scenes access and uncensored producer commentary as the tapings take place.

We also want to be able to take networks a television pilot that is 100% in our vision – including the input from our fans and backers – so that they can see, not just on paper or in a sample reel, what tremendous potential a Viva L.A. Lucha series can have. Often times, leaving the creative process of developing a series WITH a network can lead to the network creating a series in THEIR image and not that of what the fans or producers really want.

JBL Shoots On Vince Russo & Talks About Career Highlights, Eddie Guerrero

3

[wweshop]WWE announcer JBL recently did an interview with Wrestling101.com. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Teaming With Barry Windham In WWE & Vince Russo:

“That to me was what I thought was my big break, and it turned out it wasn’t for a lot of reasons. The head of creative at the time Vince Russo didn’t think much of me or Barry I believe, he’s selling comic books or whatever he’s doing right now so that tells you what you need to know about Vince Russo.

I thought that was my big break, I idolised Barry and a still do to this day, he still had a lot of gas left in the tank, and for whatever reason they didn’t want to use him. The tag team never went anywhere but for me it was a big deal.”

His WWE Career Highlights:

“Eddie Guerrero, he was the biggest influence on my singles career. I’m not sure the JBL character would be alive if not for Eddie, he really made the career that I had. The Undertaker feud that I had was huge for me, but I got to wrestle every top star during that era, I got to wrestle, Booker T, Dave Batista, John Cena, I really had a fun and incredible run, the run came later in my life so I really had the opportunity to enjoy it.”

“One of the greatest things that I got to do was pass the torch to John Cena, which I absolutely take zero credit for, he would have gone to the top anyway but I was lucky enough to be the guy that passed the torch and I was very honoured to be able to do that.”

He also spoke about the transition from wrestler to announcer, his Seven Summits mountain climbing adventures and more.
