WWE Playing Up The Miz’s Injuries From Randy Orton Attack On RAW

15

The official WWE website recently ran an article playing up The Miz’s injuries sustained from the attack by Randy Orton on Monday’s edition of WWE RAW.

“Based on the placement of the chair and the force by Randy Orton, Miz has a preliminary diagnosis of an upper thoracic injury,” WWE physician Dr. Chris Amann told WWE.com.

“He has a bruised breastbone and bruised collarbone, he has difficulty moving his neck and arm and signs of a pinched nerve. We’re doing further tests on him right now and we should have more information after those tests are completed.”

The article did not state when The Miz would return to television after recovering from his “injury,” however they did claim they will update fans when more information becomes available.

Curtis Axel Speaks On Being A Heel, Winning The I-C Title On Father’s Day & More

2

The following are highlights from a recent interview with WWE Superstar Curtis Axel:

On playing a heel character in WWE: “I love being a bad guy. I get the freedom of being able to do whatever I want, whenever I want. … The reactions you get when you’re a bad guy, when they boo the crap out of you, it gives me goose bumps.”

On winning the WWE Intercontinental Championship on Father’s Day: “When it did happen, my God, all I could think about was my dad and that I know he would be proud of what I did there. When the referee handed me that title, the chills were going up and down and I was trying to fight back those tears… My wife said when I did end up winning and my hand got raised with the title, it was like complete silence in my living room. Everybody was teary-eyed.”

Chris Jericho Speaks On Putting Over Young Talent, Goals Left In Wrestling & More

5

The following are highlights from a recent interview with part-time WWE Superstar Chris Jericho:

On goals he has left in the wrestling business: “I’ve done everything that I could ever want to do. If you would have asked me that question five years ago I would have said ‘I want to do this, this and this’ but over the last few years all of that has come to fruition. So if I never wrestled again, I would have no regrets. But hopefully that’s not the case.”

On his thoughts on putting over younger talent: “It’s my job. If I was an actor in a Spielberg movie and he said on page ten you die and I said I don’t think I should do that then he’ll say well get the hell out of here and we’ll get another actor. And it’s the same thing in the WWE. If I’m going to be going back on a part time basis which is basically the way is it for me now… if Vince is going to let me come back for two months, who am I to say no to anything that he wants me to do. And it’s kind of a fun thing for me to go there and work with some younger guys. I’m kind of bulletproof, so I can lose to pretty much everybody and it doesn’t really make a difference. But if I had my way I would be winning every match. It’s not like I’m going in there and choosing, ‘I must be the guy who puts guys over.’ Screw that, I want to win. But if Vince says you’re not winning, then I don’t.”

Adam Pearce Speaks On Seven Levels Of Hate Documentary, Politics In Wrestling & More

1

The following are highlights from a recent interview with Adam Pearce:

On when he got the idea that he wanted to do a documentary on the Seven Levels Of Hate matches with Colt Cabana: I would say about halfway through. We knew going through the matches themselves that Cabana and I were doing something that was special in terms of the wrestling itself. Just by the feedback and the buzz we had wrapped around the thing. and then once the dramatics, if you will, began to kick in behind the scenes and things were happening that I knew were going to impact what we were doing, I thought it was a good idea to sit down and make sure we were able to document this. People were asking questions and wanting to have answers to things that we weren’t in position to tell at that point. Here we are know, almost a year removed from it, and I wanted to make sure I could tell it as completely as I could.

On the politics that got involved during the series: Things happened and it took away from it for all the wrong reasons. Again, I get it and having been in the bubble for so long you’re right there on top of it. People have become emotional attached to whatever issue they’re dealing with and I understand all of that. At the end of the day, it comes down to business. Bottom line is professional wrestling is a business. It is designed and made available to us to make money. And I understand all of the other things that people are attracted to the business about and for and the notoriety and the spotlight but at the end of the day, you want to do the best thing to put money in the coffers. And I certainly think we were on the right track — and when I say me I mean me and Colt Cabana — and obviously there was an opposition to that and it’s pretty well documented in the movie.

On how mentally tough the wrestling business can be: You don’t think about that when you get into it. And then here I am coming up quickly on 18 1/2 years and it would be comical if it wasn’t so sad. In a lot of ways it’s pathetic because on the independent level we’re not talking about millions of dollars. We’re talking about, the lucky ones, the ones who are able to make a living on the independents and I consider myself lucky enough to be part of that group, we’re still not talking about seven figures annually. We’re talking about relatively modest amounts of money. No one is getting rich off of what we’re doing and a lot of it seems foolish off as a result of that. And I can see if we’re talking big money deals and there’s a lot riding on things and some cases there are but for the most part we’re talking about ego. Ego. Ego ego ego. It’s terrible.

On his current relationship with the NWA: I don’t have one. And I think on a number of different levels that’s sad. Of course, there’s a number of people still involved with the brand that I know. I’m a big fan of their champion now Rob Conway. I think he’s a hell of a person first and foremost, a great wrestling and a great choice to be champion. I wish he was being allowed to do more with that belt. I think the way he travels and gets around he could be doing similar things with it that I did. I don’t get the sense that they’re interested in any type of business with me and frankly, you know, I think we spelled it out pretty clearly in the DVD how we all feel.

Roddy Piper Speaks On Getting Stabbed, Longevity In Pro Wrestling & More

2

The following are highlights from a recent interview with WWE Hall Of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper.

How he was drafted into the Klondike Celebrity Challenge: “I don’t know. It was pretty cool. If you go to the Klondike Facebook page (www.facebook.com/Klondike) you see what these people would make Roddy Piper do for a Klondike bar. The Klondike people were pretty smart because was they did was you go to the Facebook page and people come up with different ideas like hit someone with coconuts, chew bubble gum, fight Hogan again.

“But whoever comes up with the idea that gets picked, they have to do the idea also. So this guy named Eric — who is a nice guy but said he wanted to wrestle ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper — (laughs) I don’t think he heard the rest of the rules. I just came right through the door. I didn’t even open it! OK bud here we go! He did OK but I think they next day he had a tremendous amount of respect for pro wrestling as he limped in.”

Getting heat as a heel in his time compared to now: “Oh, they’re not even the same animal. I’ve been stabbed three times, the last one an inch from the heart in Raleigh, North Carolina. You know, we were pretty serious about what we were doing back then. It was more like gun fighters I guess. In 1982, 3, 4 the WWWF which was run by Vince McMahon, Sr., he called us all rebels who would work anywhere. And when you came into that locker room there was Hogan, (David) Schultz, (Don) Moraco, Andre (the Giant), Tony Atlas, Bruno Sammartino. It’s a pretty heavy-hitting crowd. Back then, they stabbed you. Now they don’t. I think that’s the difference.”

What it means to have been in wrestling for 45 years: “It’s done this. I’ve given me four of the most beautiful children in the world. Today is my wife’s birthday and on October 12 we’ll married 31 years. It gave me a family I never had. When I got to pro wrestling, I considered them my family. And because of that family I got my own family. And that’s the greatest gift of all.”

“Ok so HERE is what I’m looking for in a guy: be gainfully employed so that you can pick up AT LEAST half of the dinner bills… Have your OWN HOME OR CONDO, so that we don’t have to worry about waking your family up as we are going downstairs to the basement/your bedroom…be secure enough with yourself to not have to question me when my male best friend calls, texts, or tells me he loves me…. Be at least of average good looks (pretty boys need not apply, I like my men rugged, but please look in a mirror before thinking about asking me out) … Must have clean, working vehicle… Must have GOOD TEETH (it’s what tells if you take care of yourself or not)… Be SINGLE (not separated, dating around, etc). Will Triple H Punish The Superstars Who Helped Daniel Bryan On RAW?

19

WWE.com has published a video of COO Triple H talking about what will happen to the wrestlers who came to the ring and helped Daniel Bryan at the conclusion of Monday’s RAW.

Michael Cole asked Triple H if the superstars will be punished. Triple H says he doesn’t have time to walk around and punish people for actions like that. There’s a lot of jealousy in WWE with only a certain few people at the top of the card.

Triple H said his friend Floyd Mayweather is the most hated man in boxing. His success creates anger, jealousy and bitterness – and that’s what we are seeing now in WWE.

He will address the superstars who helped Daniel Bryan on SmackDown, but the issue is so far beneath him, he doesn’t feel like he should have to deal with it.

When asked about the fast count in the main event of Night of Champions and why it appeared he didn’t want to hear Daniel Bryan’s story, Triple H said Daniel Bryan is crying conspiracy and what occured spoke for itself. Triple H said he’ll continue to look into the situation, but Daniel Bryan will get a rematch against Randy Orton at Battleground – with the winner being crowned the WWE Champion.

Triple H also spoke aabout Randy Orton being the new face of WWE, Dusty Rhodes’ actions on RAW and more.

Matt Morgan Talks About His First Meeting With Vince McMahon, Leaving TNA & More

9

Former WWWE & TNA star Matt Morgan recently spoke to Raj Giri of WrestlingInc.com. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Breaking into the business and first meeting Vince McMahon at the gym in WWE Headquarters:

“I was … wondering how do I start. So I moved back and was in my parents house in Connecticut where I took a job with Enterprise Rent A Car in Stamford. I remember Titan Towers was literally a block away. Literally, I could throw a football and hit it from where I was working at Enterprise. A lot of the wrestlers would come in there. So I would sit there and jump all over them and walk them to their car, rent them their car, hook them up, things like that, and beg them for info on how a guy gets started.

“I remember one time Tom Prichard came in. Of course, I knew who Dr. Tom Prichard was, who didn’t? I was a wrestling fan. He gave me the idea to start showing up to the gym, they have a gym there at Titan Towers, and start coming in there. I had a friend who wrote for the magazine, for the Raw Magazine at the time, and so between those two I would go work out at the gym on Friday nights. [I thought] hopefully, maybe I’d bump into Vince McMahon because I heard he worked out on Friday nights with his trainer.

“I went every Friday night for about eight months straight without seeing the man. I kept hearing that I just kept missing him. So, I was coming up from work on Friday nights, so I didn’t have many hours to be able to do this. One night I finally hit it and I met him and I introduced myself. He obviously looked at my size and was asking how big I was and things like that. “What’s your name? Where are you from?” That kind of thing. He was pretty shocked I was from Connecticut and he hadn’t heard of me and I explained to him that I never wrestled, never trained, I didn’t know much of anything, I had my money taken from me from an independent trainer in Hawaii. I asked him, “what’s the best bet for someone like me to make their start in wrestling? I really want to do this.”

He goes, ‘You don’t play any other sports?’ I go, I’ve got a combine with the Rams coming up very soon.’He goes, I think you would owe it to your family and yourself to at least go to the tryout. You at least owe it to yourself. There’s no guarantee in wrestling, no matter how big you are.” I was like, ‘okay, and if it doesn’t work out?’ He was like, “well, you talk to Tom Prichard and maybe Tom can set you up with something.’So I talked to Tom Prichard. The combine for the Rams did not go well, [but] I couldn’t have cared less because my mind wasn’t even on it. I already wanted to be in wrestling. When your mind’s set on something else, it’s kind of hard not to make up for that. So when your mind and your heart is really set on something, after I talked to Vince McMahon, it felt like the dream was starting to come together in a weird way, a very slow, weird way. What was the next step to take?

So I called Tom Prichard. My NFL camp didn’t work out. He said, ‘they’re doing this Tough Enough thing now. You would be great because you have zero experience. We wouldn’t have to untrain any mistakes you made on the indys that you learned. I can’t guarantee anything will work out for you. You clearly have to go there, bust your ass and impress whoever’s judging this thing, whoever the talent scouts are because it’s just as much MTV’s decision as it is WWE’s. So got out there, bust your ass, show them your heart, your passion, and hopefully you can make it. That would be my advice to you to get started.'”

Being given the stuttering gimmick in WWE: That was Vince McMahon’s idea, to give me something. I was still, they didn’t want to do the Blueprint character because I had done it in OVW. Creative, the writing team and more importantly Vince, was the one that came up with it. He for years had been wanting to put this stuttering character on the right guy. I remember him saying, ìLook, if this isn’t you, you got to tell me now. It’s not a big deal, we’ll send you back down. Still improving and doing what you’re doing. I hear you’re doing really well. Just keep it up and we’ll find something for you eventually.’

I remember being at the time like I’m still learning a lot, but I know I’m going to learn a hell of a lot faster if I’m on the road with these guys again at house shows. I would have said yes to anything. I mean if you tell me to wear a pink jock strap, I would have went out there with a freaking pink tutu, I would have done it, on a unicycle, to boot. I would have done it. That’s how desperate I wanted to be back on the big show. Who doesn’t?

I remember when he talked about the character to me, he used a really good analogy that made sense to me at the time. But again, no matter what he told me I would have done, because any time he gets an idea, you would assume that you would be used and used to the benefit of his abilities. In his defense he did. He absolutely did. It’s just I take full credit for not getting fully over and not working. I’m very confident on the microphone, so I really believed I could eventually make it work. But what started happening was, which was kind of my concern at the time, was people are going to laugh. And I get that’s what it’s supposed to do. But then what I was told was once I started getting the heat on my opponent, and being a big, bad ass mother you know what, that there’s the rub. No ones going to be laughing necessarily at that point. Well, they kind of were because I’m sitting there stuttering in the middle of my heat, talking trash to my opponent. So I just tried to go with it and make it as comical as I could and maybe that’s why it didn’t work. I take full credit on that one for it not working. You always take credit for it on your own. You can’t always blame other things like writers or this or that. Just take it on the chin yourself as a learning experience. Me doing that character, it opened me up even more as far as, I don’t want to say making an ass of myself, but being even more comfortable doing anything you throw at me.

I was a very confident man, very confident in my abilities and super confident in my athleticism and talking ability. What better way to prove that then doing something that isn’t your strength? I was going to knock it out of the ballpark come hell or high water, that’s the attitude I had by attacking it. That night when Vince talked to me about it, he wanted me to go down to OVW and practice it a little bit. I probably should have taken the man’s advice, but I was so gung ho to show that this doesn’t phase me and I’m going to freaking kill this thing, this character. I said to him, quite quickly, ìMr. McMahon, I can have this down cold by the end of the night.’We were at Chicago doing a taping for Smackdown. He was like, ìWell, that’s pretty fast, Matt. Don’t you think you should give it some time? Work it into matches and promos down there in promo class?’I was like, ìJust give me an opportunity. Let me come back in here by the end of the night, after the show if you don’t mind, and I’ll cut a promo on ya with this character.’And he loved it because Vince loves people that attack things head on. That’s the kind of man I am as well. So cool. Smackdown comes, here I am in the bathroom mirrors in between matches, trying to work on this character. His facials, what words does he stammer on, and then I came up with the idea of when I would start to stutter on a word to replace it with a completely different word. Like I’d start to use the f word and then replace it with a ridiculous word. You know, like instead of using the f word use a funny word because I couldn’t get the word out.

I went back to his office. He had John Cena in there at the time and he wanted me to cut it on John. I ripped into John with this stuttering character and they both were dying laughing. At the time John was like look, we need big guys, we need big heels on our show right now, we need some new blood. Hopefully this works out for you, big man. He was really supportive of it actually, of me trying it and keep going. Anyways, so I did it and they both liked it. I think it was a week later I debuted on Smackdown.

His Decision To Leave TNA:

“I just think it was… I was about to start a story line, a pretty major one actually. Unfortunately it just didn’t materialize and they went in a different direction with another person’s character. I 100% understand why they had to do it with this particular character, but as far as I’m concerned with my storyline, that left me odd man out where I was going to be taking some time off and sitting at home again.

I remember talking to Dixie [Carter] about it and her telling me to hang in there a little bit more and things like that. “I’m sure creative will come around, we can find something.” The problem with that was, again, I was going to be sitting. I’m in my prime right now and I just felt it wasn’t best for me and my family, most importantly, I have a kid on the way. I’m having my first child coming and I’m a nervous wreck about it as it is, let alone sitting at home doesn’t make that any better, financially speaking. I had to do what was best from my family’s financial standpoint.”

Morgan also talked about working with Hulk Hogan and Brock Lesnar, his stuttering gimmick in WWE, if he’d return to WWE and more.

CM Punk Injured & When His Contract Expires, RVD Taking Time Off Soon

64

– Rob Van Dam will be taking time off from WWE in a few weeks. Van Dam’s current WWE contract has him working 90-day blocks, where’ll tour with WWE for 3 months and then can take time off before returning for another 3 months.

– CM Punk has been working injured for several weeks now, which has often been the case for Punk over the past several years. Punk has been working a very light schedule at WWE live events lately because his knee and ankle are injured, but he’s also dealing with other nagging injuries. He’s expected to be off WWE television for another week or two in order to recover from Ryback’s recent attack and allow him time to heal up.

With Punk’s WWE contract expiring next summer, a lot of people are wondering if he’ll stay with the company or follow through on his previous statements that he’ll be retiring “sooner than later.”

Hulk Hogan’s TNA Contract Expiring: His Future, Relationship With Dixie, WWE

66

With TNA on a cost cutting spree this year, a lot of people have been waiting to see if the company offers to extend Hulk Hogan’s lucrative contract, which expires in the coming weeks. While Hogan’s current deal is about as cushy as they come, the WWE Hall of Famer has reportedly not been happy with things in TNA lately.

Specifically, Hulk Hogan was not pleased with his daughter Brooke being let go by the company and how TNA handled the situation. Hulk felt that TNA should have informed him first that they were considering the move, which did not happen.

The communication between Hogan/Bischoff and Dixie Carter is said to have broken down around the time of Brooke’s release.

During a recent interview at the Fan Expo 2013 event in Toronto, Canada, Hulk Hogan made a few comments that showed his relationship has seen better days. When asked if he’d ever return to WWE, he said “never say never – anything is possible in this business” response. He also said the 2 factors that would most help TNA would be putting Eric Bischoff in charge and giving them an unlimited budget. A few people in TNA saw this as an ungrateful gesture by Hogan, who has been given a ton of money and control in TNA without producing any meaningful results.

Hogan’s TNA contract expires on October 1st.

With Hogan’s longtime friend Jimmy Hart stating last week on the PWTorch livecast radio show that doctors recently told Hogan that he could probably wrestle 2-3 more times, it makes you wonder if Hogan is considering “coming home” to WWE for one more run and a farewell sendoff at WrestleMania XXX.
