Divas Championship Match Announced For Battleground, Rob Van Dam’s Most Extreme Moments

2

– The official website of WWE announced Monday afternoon that Divas Champion AJ Lee will defend her title against Brie Bella at this Sunday’s Battleground pay-per-view event.

Previewing the match, WWE writes, “With the full attention of Brie Bella — who is no doubt eager to prove that she’s more than a “cheap, interchangeable, expendable, useless woman,” to quote the champion — focused solely on her, will the mercurial AJ Lee be able to back up her brazen words? Or will WWE’s black widow find herself trapped in a web of defeat as Brie begins her second reign as queen of the mountain?”

– What are the most extreme moments in Rob Van Dam’s career? Find out in the latest edition of WWE Top 10.

History Of Hogan & Dixie’s Rocky Relationship, TNA “Ethan” Promo Video, Brooke

10

– Thursday’s taped episode of Impact Wrestling will feature another face-to-face confrontation between Hulk Hogan and Dixie Carter in what could be Hogan’s final appearance for the promotion. To hype the angle, the official TNA website has published a “video history” of Hulk & Dixie’s rocky on-air relationship. [View Here]

Since this week’s Impact Wrestling episode is all about Hulk Hogan and Dixie Carter facing off in the ring, TNA’s website has been pushing a lot of videos about their past together to build to the angle, which may end up being Hogan’s final appearance for the company.

– Former TNA performer Brooke Hogan was recently interviewed by Athens Online and said she’s been in Athens, GA to film a” paranormal reality series” called, Weird America.

“I’m actually personally interested in this show because I have a little bit of history with a psychic background, kind of a sixth sense-type thing,” Hogan said. “I’ve had a few different experiences in my life that have made me a little bit more curious, and I want to find out more about it.”

She also mentioned that she’s been in Nashville, Tennessee recording new music.

– TNA has published the following video hyping that “Ethan” is coming to Impact Wrestling:

There is some speculation that the Ethan that’s coming to TNA is independent wrestler Ethan HD, who wrestles for Championship Wrestling From Hollywood. While we can’t confirm that Ethan HD is headed to TNA, he’s certainly playing into the rumors. Last Thursday, the night the first “Ethan Is Coming” video aired on TNA Impact Wrestling, Ethan HD tweeted:

“…and I’m just sittin’ here whistlin’ Dixie.”

John Cena Participating In Ad Campaign For Kraft, WWE Has Controversial Video Quickly Removed

4

– Kraft Foods Group Inc. has announced a new advertising campaign for its Capri Sun Roarin’ Waters beverage featuring John Cena, as well as baseball star David Ortiz, Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas and basketball star Stephen Curry.

The athletes will be featured on specially marked packages of Capri Sun Roarin’ Waters with codes that will allow consumers to play online games, including thumb wrestling with the WWE Superstar.

Additional details on the promotion are available here.

– It was reported Sunday that a video had surfaced on YouTube from WWE’s “Presentations Skills” class at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, where developmental wrestler Buddy Murphy made a disturbing reference to children being murdered. The controversial video quickly drew the attention of WWE as they had it removed from the video-sharing website within three hours of the report through a copyright claim.

Touting his multiple personalities, Murphy had said,

“See that guy walks through the door, he’s upstairs, doesn’t have a smile on his face, that’s me too. The guy that sits in the locker room and stares a hole down the wall, and you’re wondering what he’s thinking, he’s going to go home and murder my kids, that’s me too.”

“But, this is what you want. This is what you want. Well just remember this; you might get what you want, but you don’t always get who you want.”

– As reported yesterday, Gene Petit, who appeared as Cousin Luke for the World Wrestling Federation, has passed away. The official WWE website has published an article remembering the late grappler.

“It was so much fun when I was in WWE,” said Petit in an interview several years ago. “The connection that Hillbilly Jim, Uncle Elmer and I had with the fans was just amazing. I loved every minute of it. It was like a down-home party wherever we appeared. I wasn’t in WWE for a very long time but I think I did make my mark there!”

WWE Looks Back At The Five Wrestlers Who Beat Bill Goldberg, Damien Sandow Promotes Tonight’s Raw

30

– Next week, WWE will release a DVD and Blu-ray highlighting the career of Bill Goldberg, Goldberg – The Ultimate Collection. He is perhaps best known for his 173-0 undefeated streak in World Championship Wrestling in 1998. In anticipation of the video release, the official WWE website has published an article looking back at the five wrestlers who hold the distinction of having pinned Goldberg in singles matches.

All five individuals were world champions. They are Kevin Nash at the 1998 Starrcade pay-per-view event, Bret Hart on the October 25, 1999 episode of WCW Monday Nitro, Booker T on the July 24, 2000 episode of WCW Monday Nitro, Scott Steiner at the 2000 Fall Brawl pay-per-view event, and Triple H at the 2003 SummerSlam.

– Promoting tonight’s Raw in Biloxi, Mississippi at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum, Damien Sandow spoke to SunHerald.com. The Money in the Bank winner says WWE currently has a “pre-Wrestlemania feel.”

“Things are starting to heat up. It’s one of the most volatile times in the WWE. You’ve got Triple H and Randy Orton against Daniel Bryan, Stephanie McMahon against the Rhodes family. It has a feel of being on the ledge. Who knows what will happen when we get to Biloxi? I’m looking forward to it,” said Sandow.

Sandow began his professional wrestling career in 2001 and was trained by WWE Hall of Famer Killer Kowalski at the Chaotic Training Center in Massachusetts, which he dubs “the Harvard of pro wrestling schools.”

“I use a lot of Killer Kowalski’s influences in the ring that I didn’t know until I got to the WWE,” said Sandow. “I think that’s pretty cool.”

Ken Anderson’s Say He Expects To Sign New TNA Contract “Within A Week”

5

Mr. Anderson, who is currently not under contract to TNA Wrestling, stated in an interview with 4th & Pain (Adam Carriker of the Washington Redskins and former wrestling announcer Chuck Carroll) that he expects to sign a new contract with Impact Wrestling “within a week.”

He said his agent and lawyer are currently working on finishing up a deal with the company and that he enjoyed the way he was being used creatively before his contract expired.

“Currently, my contract with TNA expired as of Friday of last week. We’re just negotiating right now. I’m hoping and assuming that we’re going to come to an agreement relatively soon and I’ll be back on Thursday nights,”

“I have no intentions of not being with TNA,” Anderson said. “I’ve been pretty happy with, creatively, the direction I’ve gone in the last month or so. I’m looking forward to coming back. I’d like to come back and hopefully pick up where I left off (with Bully Ray). It’s the legal stuff and I have my agent and my lawyer dealing with stuff. I’m sitting back here trying to enjoy some time off and not get too stressed out about things.”

According to Anderson, not being affiliated TNA Wrestling hasn’t really crossed his mind. He’s also open to taking independent dates.

“I would be open to taking bookings, but I don’t think it’s going to take that long. I think we’re going to have something wrapped up here within the next week,” Anderson said.

Also in the interview, Carriker cuts a promo in Anderson’s style to pay off a wager from the Washington Redskins Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers. It was a little choppy at points, but Anderson says the man with the largest arms on the defensive line has a future in the ring if he wants one.

Anderson, a huge NFL fan, also chatted pigskin with the guys for a while before talking about his impending twins and whether to “smarten them up” about Santa Claus from the get go.

Booker T Speaks On Ultimate Warrior In WWE HOF, Predicts WrestleMania 40 Main Event

20

The following are highlights from a recent interview with WWE Hall Of Famer Booker T:

On WrestleMania compared to other events: “WrestleMania is the biggest deal of them all [major sporting events.] I mean its the spectacle of a lifetime. If you ever have the chance to be a part of it. I mean you guys got to experience the SuperBowl and now you’re going to be able to experience WrestleMania. It’s going to be awesome. Compared [to the SuperBowl] as far as what’s the biggest. Let me tell you WrestleMania is the biggest spectacle that I’ve ever seen and been a part of.”

On the new WWE Performance Center: “I haven’t had a chance to get there as often as I need to. I have my own facility in Houston. I’m trying to filter the wrestling business. You know, more and more students are trying to get it from all different perspectives. But I’ll tell you the training center is something that we’ve needed for quite some time just so the avid fan always wonders ‘How do I get into this business?’ And for us to promote it! Now, we have our own form of something that you can come down and be a part of, try to get into this business. You know there are a lot of kids out there that I feel like we might be losing. We need to advertise a little more and show these guys that you can have a great career in professional wrestling, and the longevity is great as well.”

On The Ultimate Warrior in the WWE Hall Of Fame: “Everybody’s wondering if the Ultimate Warrior is going to go in [the Hall of Fame,] that’s one thing… Ultimate Warrior is probably the one guy that people have been wondering for many, many years, just like Bruno Sammartino. It would be great to take his place in immortality. He deserves it. Hew was great for what he did for the time in wrestling… Back in the day, those guys really were trailblazers, they were one of the reasons that I wanted to be one of those guys.”

On his prediction for the WrestleMania 40 main event: “Dean Ambrose versus Dolph Ziggler.”

What Is Lex Luger’s Current Role With WWE?, Claims He Was Drug-Free During Early ’90s Run

6

Lex Luger, who has not appeared on WWE programming since infamously bolting from the sports-entertainment organization in 1995 to jump ship to World Championship Wrestling, currently has an unofficial affiliation with his former employer.

Two years ago, the former World Heavyweight Champion stated in a radio interview that he was counseling WWE talent on nutrition, wellness and exercise as part of the organization’s Talent Wellness Program. Speaking to Power Slam to promote his recently released autobiography, Wrestling with the Devil: The True Story of a World Champion Professional Wrestler – His Reign, Ruin, and Redemption, Luger confirmed that he is still involved with WWE.

“I do informal stuff behind-the-scenes, when I am needed. I enjoy doing that. When they want somebody to tell the young guys all the things that you don’t want to do, I’m there,” Luger said.

Having been down a dark path culminating with the death of girlfriend Miss Elizabeth in 2003, Luger is able to use his personal experiences to instruct today’s wrestlers on a healthier lifestyle.

Elsewhere in the interview, Luger claimed that he was drug-free while appearing for the then-World Wrestling Federation from 1993 to 1995.

“They were pretty strict with the testing when I was in the WWF. During that period, I managed it without drugs,” said Luger.

In regards to how often talent were drug tested then, Luger states, “It was strict. They’d sometimes test three or four nights in a row. We called the [people who administered the tests] white coats. We’d never know when they’d arrive. I was pleasantly surprised that I could maintain my physique as well as I did back then [without steroids].”

Whatever Happened To “Tough Enough” Winner Maven? – His Current Job In New York City

16

Former WWE wrestler Maven Huffman—one of two winners of the inaugural season of Tough Enough on MTV in 2001—is currently working as a bouncer at a sports bar in New York City. Mixed martial arts journalist and wrestling fan Ariel Helwani confirmed this tidbit on his Twitter account.

“Just walked by a bar that former Tough Enough winner Maven was bouncing. Told him the Rumble spot was awesome. He didn’t seem pleased,” wrote Helwani on Friday night.

He added further, “I swear. He seemed embarrassed someone recognized him.”

A second person relayed a very similar story online last month in a post on TheColi.com message board, noting that he crossed paths with the former WWF Hardcore Champion at a bar in New York City (Midtown 1015 at Sutton Place). This individual recognized the bouncer as a professional wrestler and found out it was indeed Huffman upon asking.

“[Huffman] was a huge dikk he was kind a pushing me away the whole time, but i had told him man I remember when you eliminated undertaker in RR, he didnt care lol,” wrote the message board user. “Dude seemed bitter for me even bringing up his wrestling past.”

After being released from his contract with WWE on July 5, 2005, Huffman found himself on multiple television shows; a cast member on the VH-1 reality show The Surreal Life, and host of programs on the Home Shopping Network and BET J. However, the former schoolteacher’s life took a rough turn in 2012 as he was arrested in Florida for “doctor shopping.” TMZ.com reported in April of that year that he allegedly went to multiple pharmacies to fill prescriptions for painkillers—he gained more than 1,000. Huffman subsequently agreed to participate in WWE’s “Former Talent Rehab Program” to defeat his drug addiction, which he successfully completed.

“I owe the WWE my life for helping me through this situation,” said Huffman in June 2012. “I have the clarity and focus that comes with sobriety and will never let my family, friends, and fans down again.”

While Huffman was in rehab, the trophy he was awarded for winning Tough Enough ended up in a storage unit in Virginia (his home state), until he stopped paying the bill. The contents of the unit went up for auction last November and was sold for $100. The person who bought the unit discovered the trophy and immediately reached out to Huffman to return it, but didn’t hear back. It then surfaced on eBay and was sold for $600 to a wrestling fan in California.

The official YouTube account of WWE published Maven’s entrance video two weeks ago, which you can view here.

33

-In a rare turn of events when it comes to the recent Fan’s Choice voting segment of WWE live events where the options for Brie Bella vs. Natalya are a “Dance Contest” and a regular singles match, the fans actually voted for a regular match. As it turns out, it didn’t really matter, as they went ahead and did the same angle that they’ve been doing at all recent live events, with the two starting off in a Dance Contest, only for Bella to attack Natalya and turn it into an actual match.

-Wrestler birthdays for today include WWE Hall Of Famer Bruno Sammartino’s son, David Sammartino, who himself is a former WWE wrestler. Sammartino turns 53 today. Also, former WWE Superstar and ECW original Yoshihiro Tajiri turns 43 today.

-WrestleReunion will be running the Dorman High School in Spartanburg, South Carolina on Saturday, October 19th for a Special Olympics fundraiser. Ric Flair References At College Football Games, Post-TLC RAW Presale Code, Jericho

2

-The presale code for the next WWE RAW from Dallas, Texas is “DALLAS.” The presale will go until Friday, for the RAW on Monday, December 16th, which will be the post-WWE TLC pay-per-view edition of the show.

-Former WWE Superstar Chris Jericho’s band, Fozzy, will be performing on Tuesday night, October 1st in Tempe, Arizona at Club Red and on Wednesday, October 2nd in Las Vegas, Nevada at Count’s Vamp’d Rock Bar & Grill.

-For those who keep track of this sort of stuff, there were multiple Ric Flair references during some big college football games recently. On the ESPN game on Thursday, when talking about Ohio State coach Urban Meyer, Rece Davis said, “to be the best, you gotta beat the best,” which was followed up with Jesse Palmer throwing in a “Woooo!” Also, during halftime of the Saturday game between Miami and USF, one of the announcers talked about a Miami player who was “playing dirty like Ric Flair out there,” which was also followed up by a passionate “Woooo!”

Details On Kane’s Possible WWE RAW Return Date, Update On WWE Cutting Costs

8

-According to the advertised talent roster on the official website for the Scottrade Center for the October 14th edition of WWE RAW in St. Louis, WWE Superstar Kane, who has been out of action lately filming the sequel to the WWE Studios project, “See No Evil,” is listed as one of the Superstars appearing on the show. It should be noted, however, that WWE.com is not advertising Kane for the 10/14 RAW. Additionally, the Scottrade Center website still lists Randy Orton as the WWE Champion, which would indicate that the advertising, which is listed, as always, as “subject to change,” is out-of-date. For what it’s worth, the website also lists “Mr. McMahon” as appearing on the show as well.

-As previously reported, WWE is taking steps to attempt to cut some unnecessary costs at their non-televised live events by taking some of the non-essential talents, such as performers like Vickie Guerrero and Zeb Colter, off of the road. It’s worth pointing out that despite the reports, while Colter was not at the live events this past weekend, Vickie Guerrero was in fact at the shows.

Goldust Speaks On Rhodes Family/RAW, HHH, Dream Match Against Cody Rhodes

0

SESCOOPS.COM reader Aaron Carnevale of WrestlingDVDNews.com sent along the following highlights of a recent Dustin “Goldust” Rhodes interview with the Monday Night Mayhem radio show:

The health benefits he has seen since starting DDP Yoga: “With DPP Yoga, there are a couple benefits. I stand up straighter now, and I can bend in ways I couldn’t bend. I feel so much better: my joints, muscles, and bones. It is awesome.”

His memories of working with Scott Hall as Goldust and what valuable lessons Hall taught him in his career: “Me and Scott have had some fun times with the Goldust stuff, even though we didn’t see eye to eye all the time. We always went out there and gave 110%. I had to learn and Scott was a good teacher. He taught me what I needed to know and how to do things the right ways, and I just grew from that. I love Scott.”

His expectations on the night of his WWE return earlier this month on Monday Night RAW against WWE Champion Randy Orton and why he took out his frustrations on Triple H via Twitter: “My nerves were shot. Cody loses his job, and my little brother had the world taken out from under him all because he spoke up. That pissed off my family so I started getting on Twitter saying things to Triple H. Going into that match with Randy, I was focused. I went into that match very focused and very nervous. I was fighting for Cody’s job, and I lost fair in square.”

With the current state of events in the WWE between the McMahons and the Rhodes families, whether or not he envisions his one-on-one Dream Match with his brother Cody in the foreseeable future: “It could take place in the foreseeable future or whenever, you never know what is going to happen in the WWE. But, I’ll say that I don’t want that anymore.”

NXT Wrestler Mentions Kids Being Murdered In Leaked Promo Video From WWE Performance Center

19

Earlier this month, fans got a peek inside the characters the future Superstars of WWE have been developing at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, as footage from the sports-entertainment organization’s “Presentations Skills” class surfaced online. One of the most notable presentations came from Buddy Murphy (a/k/a Matt Silva), a 5’10” 230-pound wrestler from Australia, who depicted his character as having multiple personalities.

In his presentation, Murphy initially taps into Australian stereotypes before “breaking character” to ridicule the company-ordered persona and subsequently identifies himself in a shoot-style manner. As Murphy speaks, he makes a disturbing reference to children being murdered.

After asking the cameraman to cease filming, Murphy states, “Are you happy? Are you happy? So finally, the Australian’s doing the stereotype Australian gimmick. Finally, Buddy Murphy is coming out his shell. Finally, Buddy Murphy is showing some personality. I’ve always had this personality, I just don’t know what personality you’re going to get.

“See that guy walks through the door, he’s upstairs, doesn’t have a smile on his face, that’s me too. The guy that sits in the locker room and stares a hole down the wall, and you’re wondering what he’s thinking, if he’s going to go home and murder my kids, that’s me too [laughs heard in the background].

“But, this is what you want. This is what you want. Well just remember this; you might get what you want, but you don’t always get who you want.”

A individual managed to save the footage before it was removed from public eyes and made it available on YouTube again; here is Murphy’s promo.

Gene Petit, who appeared as Cousin Luke for the World Wrestling Federation in 1985 and 1986, has passed away, according to PWInsider.com.

Details surrounding Petit’s death have not been released. He had been battling with multiple sclerosis in recent years, causing him to drop a substantial amount of weight.

Though Petit competed for numerous promotions from 1973 through his retirement in 2000, he is best known for his role as a member of Hillbilly Jim’s stable of wrestling relatives from Mud Lick, Kentucky, which also included Uncle Elmer and Cousin Luke. Petit portrayed a silent and expressionless rural Southerner who did not know how to wrestle—though he did actually wrestle. He joined the other hillbillies in their feud with “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, “Cowboy” Bob Orton, Jr., and Jesse “The Body” Ventura. He stated in a 2008 interview detailing his career that he was asked to compete at WrestleMania 2, but had to decline to an ankle injury. Storyline cousin Uncle Elmer was utilized instead, as he suffered a quick loss to Adrian Adonis.

Petit explained the nature of his departure from the World Wrestling Federation in 1986 to SLAM! Wrestling: “Vince [McMahon] told me that they would keep me until the end of the year, leave me off for a few months, and then figure out another gimmick, because they were just going to keep Hillbilly.”

“There was too much back and forth with Hillbilly and he got hurt; they brought Elmer in, and he got fired; Junior left; then I came in, and Hillbilly had a little disagreement with the office, so he took off for a few weeks. We had lost the steam that we had. I finished the year with them, and then started working the independents.”

Hillbilly Jim is the last surviving member of the clan; Uncle Elmer (Stan Frazier) died in 1992 as a result of kidney failure while Cousin Junior (Larry Kean) died in 2009 due to a heart attack.
