David Otunga Talks About His Workout Routine & Life Before WWE

9

WWE Superstar David Otunga was recently interviewed by BodyBuilding.com and spoke about what he was doing before he joined WWE.

“I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in psychology from University of Illinois, and following that I managed a cognitive neuroscience lab at Columbia University. After that I went to Harvard for law school … and then reality TV came calling, so I starred in VH1’s “I Love NY 2.”

Otunga also spoke on growing up very different than the way he is now.

“I didn’t always look like I do today. Growing up as a kid in Elgin, IL I was short, chubby, I had thick glasses and – to make things worse – I did pretty well in school … Kids used to make fun of my all the time … Everyone just seemed so athletic and so buff, and I just wasn’t … Around my Freshman year I decided to start taking the gym seriously.”

While on the road with WWE, Otunga still finds time to work out at least five times every week.

“Luckily, I’m able to find a gym everywhere we go – that’s my first priority. As soon as I land and get off the plane, the first thing I do is go to the gym … Wednesday’s I’m super tired because I always take the first flight home, but this is my toughest work out. The next day is Thursday, which is usually a chest day. The next day is Friday, which I usually fly back out on the road to do live events. The first thing I’ll do is I find a gym … then I have the show that night, and then we drive to the next city. Which takes us to Saturday; sleep for a few hours, wake up, and then find the gym. Hammer that out, have the show that night, and then drive to the next city.”

Potential WWE Stars Undergoing Medical Tests, Fandango’s Partners, Christian

13

– As seen on Monday’s RAW, Fandango’s original brunette dancer was back and there was no sign or mention of NXT Diva Summer Rae. The plan for now is to use both women as Fandango’s dancing partners. WWE likes the original brunette dancer because she is a trained dancer, but the drawback is that she’s a college student and is currently unable to attend all WWE live events.

– Christian has been medically cleared to wrestle, however WWE is still working on a storyline to bring him back with.

– Independent wrestlers who are currently in the process of undergoing WWE medial exams prior to being signed include Mike Bennett, Samurai del Sol, Shaun Ricker and Sami Callihan.

Matt Hardy On Why He Missed ROH Border Wars, Jealousy Between Him & Kevin Steen?, More

2

Former ECW Champion, multi-time WWE/F Tag Team Champion and current ROH star “Wrestling Jesus” Matt Hardy joined Kayfabe Wrestling Radio Tuesday Night. In a nearly 30 minute interview, he discussed why he wasn’t at the Border Wars iPPV, if there was possibly any jealousy between himself and Steen or if the fallout was more because of Steen and Corino, Matt Taven’s World TV Title win and his ‘priceless’ reaction to the win, on joining SCUM at the 11th Anniversary Show, what he thinks about the SHINE Wrestling product, his involvement with Southern Wrestling Superstars and what made him say yes, on being a part of the New England Hall of Fame and Fan Fest event, the perceptions people have of him versus his character on television, his reflections on Owen Hart on what would have been Owen’s 48th birthday, his time with Extreme Rising and the ‘incident’ with Luke Hawx, what a current Matt Hardy would tell his younger self and so much more.

Why he wasn’t at the Border Wars iPPV: “No, I was never supposed to be there; actually I’ll let everybody in on a little secret, when I first started speaking with Ring of Honor and Jim Cornette in September of last year, we kind of had an idea for a storyline arc that was going to go from December to WrestleMania weekend but because things went so well within that time, we decided to extend that and by the time we actually looked into the May dates, I was already booked on that weekend. So, I start back with them full time with everything else past this. It’s going to work out just fine storyline wise, once we explain why I wasn’t there. But basically, in a nutshell, Kevin Steen I really wanted to be his friend but he hurt my feelings by cursing me and also the Ring of Honor fans. I saw to all the Ring of Honor fans and to Kevin Steen: don’t be a bully, be a star.”

Was there jealousy there between himself and Steen or were the issues between Corino and Steen: “You know, I think the biggest issue Kevin Steen has with me is that he’s like a representation of the Ring of Honor fan base, in many ways. Even when he was a bad guy, he was still cheered for and I think Kevin Steen just goes ‘Well I’m (Hardy) a WWE guy and I’m just taking up Ring of Honor regular’s airtime and their spot on television.’ So, you know there’s a part of that and people crucify me for any mistakes I have made in the past, so I think all that rolled up into one is why Kevin Steen is so judgmental of me and he just didn’t want to pal around with me or be with the group. But I like Kevin personally; you know I think he’s a really cool guy, but I think his decision to not allow me to help to retain the title and to insult me and to bully me like he did, is really going to come back to bite him when it’s all said and done because you’re looking at a Matt Hardy now who’s really reborn and reinvigorated and I’m getting ready to go hard again for a full-time, regular run in the wrestling business and my fist stop is winning that Ring of Honor World Heavyweight Championship.”

Matt Taven’s World TV Title victory and his reaction to losing a shot at the title: “You are, you’re totally right in what you’re saying there and taking the pulse of the emotion I was feeling. I mean, myself and Adam Cole were looking past Matt Taven as we saw ourselves finally getting that one-on-one match we’d both been looking forward to for so long that next night but, you know, looking back in hindsight, I’ve actually been in the ring with Matt Taven before he even started with Ring of Honor and he’s a very talented guy. It’s one of those things I’m happy to see him win the Television Title and be successful, although I should have been the guy to win that title, on my way to the World Title. But, with all that said and done, Matt Taven has really come in and he’s really found a niche immediately with the whole hoopla thing and Truth Martini, so good for him, man. It’s always nice to see a new, young superstar break through and really get an opportunity and take the ball and run with it.”

On joining SCUM at the 11th Anniversary Show: “You know it’s funny because there were a couple of guys, I’ll be fully honest; someone like Rhett Titus, who the Ring of Honor fan base actually, I think they respect him and they appreciate him because he’s a Ring of Honor original and that’s where he was kind of born and bred. So I think, even for the Ring of Honor fan base to see him join up with SCUM, they’re like ‘Oh My God, Cool! Rhett Titus is going to get another shot; he’s going to get an opportunity. We’re going to see a lot more of him; a brand new and renewed push and character for Rhett Titus. Yea!’ And a couple of the guys were really cheered; they were excited to see Cliff Compton (Domino) show up but when I came out and I took off the shirt, there was no one happy to see me join SCUM, and that’s one thing I really enjoy more than anything else about my Ring of Honor gig; is that the people there that legitimately dislike me, really legitimately dislike me and I don’t have to any heel stuff to try and push them to dislike me any further.”

WWE issued a breaking news alert on Wednesday afternoon announcing that World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler suffered a concussion at Tuesday night’s SmackDown taping from Raleigh, North Carolina.

According to WWE, the concussion took place during a match between Big E Langston and Jack Swagger.

WWE physician Dr. Michael Sampson says, “He [was] having some memory difficulties and a bit of a headache … he definitely has a concussion,” said Sampson. “We’re checking him out, and going to be doing neuropsychological testing and just keep it monitored.”

The neuropsychological tests will provide WWE medical officials with a “baseline” from which to monitor Ziggler’s progress in the coming weeks.

Mickie James Talks About Being Frustrated With Her Current Role In TNA

13

TNA Knockout Mickie James was interviewed by Chris Kelly (@H2HCrelly) on this weeks Running The Ropes (www.facebook.com/runningtheropes.radio) to promote her new music album “Somebody’s Gonna Pay” Below Mickie are a few highlights

On her frustrations regarding her lack of TV time over the past year:

“I know I’ve seemed a little bit frustrated as of late in some of my promos and stuff, but I honestly feel that for the past year I’ve probably been on less than 10 shows. I’ve barely done anything. It’s awesome to be able to come back and win the number one contendership and go for the title, but I’m sick and tired of feeling like I’m sitting at home and watching all these other people. I did get injured and I was sick, but I was already off TV when I got hurt.

“It’s so frustrating when you know that you’re one of the best in the world, and you’re sitting at home. I love going out there and making magic and telling a story, but I don’t love pretending that I’m okay sitting at home when I’m not. I’m just being real and being honest about it. It’s not me trying to be this awful person. I’m the one who has to look at myself in the mirror and if I’m not happy with what I’m doing or not doing, then I’m the one who has to face that. So that’s kind of where I’m at. I know people question that like ‘Oh are you turning heel?’ And I’m like ‘No, not really. I’m just being honest.”

On the forgotten state of the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship:

“I don’t understand the logic behind that because in my opinion, besides the X Division Championship, the female tag team championship is the only thing we have that nobody else has. I think our ladies’ division is so unique and so different that it gives you something else to fight for. I don’t know why they’re sitting around ODB and EY’s waists, and they’re not even defending them and nobody else is getting a shot at them. There’s no storyline; there’s nothing wrapped around them. They just kind of won the belts and that was it. Then we forgot about them.

“I don’t think we have enough girls right now to even have a tag division, unfortunately. But there are enough girls in our circle that we can use. In my opinion, it would be awesome if there were more full-time contracted girls because not only would it give us more girls to work with in the title picture, but also in the tag division being able to pair up with the right people and kind of see who works together and who doesn’t, what’s going to make money and what’s not, what kind of gimmicks and characters like Jumping Bomb Angels and Glamour Girls – it all works.”

On her popularity compared to Velvet Sky:

“I was glad that Velvet was back; I thought it was awesome. But what was the point in bringing me back [in December] if you were just going to bring her back a week later and then I was going to sit at home? It didn’t make any sense to me unless it would have worked into some kind of storyline or something like that. It still could, you never know.

“Velvet started in TNA and that’s where she built her fan base. She’s got hardcore TNA fans, whereas I have hardcore Mickie James fans. I don’t mean to take anything away from her because she does have hardcore Velvet Sky fans, but I brought 80-90 percent of my fan base with me. I do have a larger audience, but she has a larger TNA loyal fan base.”

Sting Talks About The State Of TNA, Only 4 PPV’s Per Year & More

6

Here are some highlights of what Sting said to Wrestle Talk TV’s during a recent interview:

Where TNA sits currently:“We’re in a good place. The companyhas definitely matured. We started with the fair grounds in Nashville, TN when I first came on. The idea was if I came, maybe others would follow. It’s happened and it’s been phenomenal. We’re in 120 countries now and the brand has grown. It’s a brand that’s very well known, especially here in this area [the UK] and very well received.”

Jeff Hardy’s turn around:“It’s phenomenal. Who wouldn’t want to see a story unfold like that? Jeff Hardy is so loved. He’s one of our marquee players here. To somebody have it all slip through their fingers is kind of sadto watch. We’ve seen it happen over and over and over again and not that many are able to get back on and get it right. I was one of them. I was one of them, I made those choices too, the wrong choices. Just about took me out. I had a few talks with Jeff, tried to get himback upon board. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him better, ever. He’s physically, mentally, spiritually [better]. He’s in a better place than he’s ever been in.”

What he thinks will come from TNA’s reduced amount of PPV’s:“It was brand new then [PPV’s back in his day]. We didn’t have thousands of TV stations. [now] You can watch anything and everything 24 hours a day, everybody’s doing PPV’s. It’s just too much. It’s just too much TV. So let’s just do fewer every year and make them extra extra special. Make them like Wembley was last year. I think it’s great and I think it’s going to be a big boost for our company.”

What younger guys on the TNA roster he think are the future:“Matt Morgan, Austin Aries, James Storm, Bobby Roode. All these guys are just guys that are coming up. Joe [Samoa Joe], I know Joe’s going to get back ontrackagain. He had the rug snatched out from underneath him, political stuff that happens in ourbusiness. He’ll come back again. Yeah, there’s a whole host of guys. How can a guy like Matt Morgan, who’s athletic as he is, and as strong as he is, and as smart as he is, not become a big star in ourbusiness? If he doesn’t it would have to be him, it lies on him.”

John Morrison Talks To WWE.com About His Fitness Program, Life After WWE

7

WWE.com recently interviewed former WWE Superstar John Morrison about his “Out Of Your Mind Fitness” program. The article jokes, “The WWE Universe might think WWE.com is out of its mind interviewing an ex-Superstar not seen since late 2011. They’re right.” Here are some highlights of what Morrison said about:

His Fitness Program:

[“Out of Your Mind Fitness”] is a fully functional training regimen built to getanyonein the best shape of their life. Functional training is the bee’s knees these days. It’s all about time efficiency. Training your body to move … so you can have the highest quality of life possible.

Everyone needs to move — if you’re a pro athlete, a contortionist, a computer programmer or just somebody who wants to play with their kids. One of the benefits of functional training like this is that it utilizes movement across multiple muscle groups as opposed to old-school bodybuilding, which is about isolation. You don’t move with isolated muscle movements in real life.

Functional training is about integrating core and stabilization muscles, which are engaged while doing these exercises. The whole body is getting worked out as a unit.”

What He’s Been Doing Since Leaving WWE:

“Life is a pretty awesome ride. Since stepping off [the WWE] train, I’ve been writing some [film] shorts and a feature that I’m hoping to produce and star in. I just wrapped a movie called, ‘The Factory.’ I’ve also been training for stunt work, acting for some independent classics, and working out.”

– This week’s WWE Five-Star Match of the Week was chosen by Paul Heyman and he picked The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar from SummerSlam 2002. Heyman told WWE.com:

“First of all, I disagree with the designation that it’s The Rock vs. Brock. It is Brock Lesnar vs. The Rock. Brock deserves top billing. And he deserves top billing because he won the match. [Brock] did not win the match with outside interference. In fact, The Rock hit me with a Rock Bottom through a table. I was not an equation. Brock Lesnar defeated The Rock cleanly to become the Undisputed WWE Champion, and in doing so, he put his boot on the neck of The Attitude Era and anointed himself the new reigning monarch of the WWE Universe.”

Update On Antonio Cesaro’s Standing With WWE

26

As noted earlier, WWE officials were very pleased with Antonio Cesaro’s match against Kofi Kingston on last week’s Main Event show. Cesaro is getting most of the credit for the match’s success, which is believed to be the reason he’s getting a match against Randy Orton on this week’s Main Event.

He was booked strong on RAW, making quick work of Zack Ryder and then cutting a post-match promo that was very similar to the promo he cut after defeating Yoshi Tatsu at last week’s NXT TV tapings.

Cesaro ripping out one of Kofi Kingston’s dreadlocks fulfilled his claim that, “You took something from me, now I’m going to take something from you.” After failing to reclaim the United States Championship, it appears he’s moving on and is being repositioned as an upper-midcard act that will eventually be a World Heavyweight title contender.
