Jim Ross Blog: Tim Tebow Working With WWE, Triple H vs. Lesnar & More

0

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is back with another blog update from JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what he wrote about:

Lesnar vs. Triple H At Extreme Rules: From the feedback that we are getting here on this site and via Twitter @JRsBBQ, it seems that more fans are most interested in @TripleH vs. @BrockLesnar inside the steel cage match than any other bout on the card. BTW…this is a very unscientific assumption. The ‘rubber match’ between the two, physical individuals is intriguing and tonight should be a pivotal in the build to that major issue on WWE’s next pay per view.

NXT Star Enzo Amore: Keep an eye on Enzo Amore in NXT as he made a great, first impression on yours truly last Thursday night at the NXT taping at Full Sail. Significant, verbal upside. Not that familiar with his in ring work yet.

More On Tim Tebow In WWE: My idea that Tim Tebow might find success in WWE apparently struck a chord with some media types. It’s not the worst idea I’ve ever spewed. Tebow is young, 25, big and athletic, enjoys working with charitable organizations ala Make a Wish Foundation, etc and is coachable. Tim could be a positive role model in the ring and touch lives around the world via the WWE’s global footprint. (Of course, being a positive role model in the ring in today’s world often times means getting booed out of the building.)

Is Tebow to WWE a long shot? Absolutely. I doubt, but don’t know, that it’s ever been seriously discussed within the WWE. But it’s certainly an intriguing idea if for nothing else for a well constructed, long term storyline that could culminate at WrestleMania 30 in New Orleans.

Update On Bray Wyatt Wearing A New Mask At WWE Events

7

As noted late last week, NXT superstar Bray Wyatt was sporting a new mask at Thursday’s NXT television tapings from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida. Wyatt also appeared at this weekend’s live events wearing the same mask. According to Bray Wyatt himself – the mask is only a temporary measure to protect his recently-broken nose:

WWE Teaming Up With Sean “Diddy” Combs To Help End Bullying

9

WWE is teaming up with entertainment & business mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs once again to encourage kids to end bullying. An anti-bullying public service announcement will air during tonight’s RAW and will run on WWE programming in the coming weeks.

WWE issued a press release with Combs and Vince McMahon commenting on the partnership:

“I’m thrilled to extend my partnership with WWE and align myself with their Be a STAR, anti-bullying initiative,” Combs said. “Bullying is a very serious issue and needs to stop now.”

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon added:

“WWE is proud to continue its partnership with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and join together to put an end to bullying.”

Paul Heyman & Brock Lesnar Show Up To WWE Headquarters (Photo)

11

Paul Heyman has been teasing that his client Brock Lesnar is in a “Breaking News” sort of mood today and won’t be waiting for RAW to get people talking. Heyman then tweeted:

WWE.com has confirmed that Lesnar and Heyman did in fact show up “unannounced” at WWE headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut this morning.

WWE’s storyline-driven article is questioning what their “tour” of WWE HQ will entail – and whether it has anything to do with Brock’s upcoming Steel Cage match against Triple H at Extreme Rules.

– WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross was recently asked on Twitter if he’ll be doing announcing at any upcoming pay-per-view events. He responded:

– Dolph Ziggler held an “#AskTheHeel” Twitter Q&A sessions with fans on Monday morning. Nothing really newsworthy coming out of it, except for some jokes by the World Heavyweight champion. When asked about his favorite “finishing move” – he responded:

– WWE officials are said to be very excited about the new Total Divas reality show that premieres on the E! Network this summer. The first two episodes are getting very strong reviews and WWE is hopeful they will be able to win over non-wrestling fans to begin watching WWE. Storylines for the first few episodes include the new Divas (Eva Marie & Jo-Jo Offerman) being brought in, footage from WrestleMania 29 weekend and Divas managing their romantic relationships while on the road.

This week on Because Wrestling, we return from a week off to talk about the latest news of the last two weeks

Exclusive: Steve Austin’s Relationship With WWE “Stone Cold’

50

According to a high level source within WWE, Steve Austin’s current relationship with WWE is worse than it has been in many years.

The falling out took place earlier this year, when WWE tried several times to have Austin appear on RAW in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania 29. Austin turned down every single request – which made Vince McMahon furious. Austin even turned down a suggestion that would have lead to a huge push by the USA Network to promote Austin’s appearance as well as some of his outside projects.

The rift between Austin and WWE has been kept very hush hush, but it does not bode well for the possibility of Austin wrestling “one more match” at next year’s WrestleMania.

Heyman Teasing Breaking News Involving Brock Lesnar, Legends House Update

7

– Paul Heyman continues to tease big news for today. After teasing something “extreme” for RAW – Heyman now says his client Brock Lesnar is in the mood to break some news and won’t be waiting for RAW:

– During last week’s investor conference call, WWE officials stated that the Legends House reality show is behind held back until the eventual launch of the WWE Network. However, PWInsider.com reports that there are people within WWE pushing for Legends House to be aired on an NBC Universal affiliate station, much like the Total Divas reality show.

The general feeling is that a launch date for the WWE Network is still very up in the air – and WWE does not want the show to be too “dated” by the time is actually sees the light of day. Legends House was filmed in early 2012 and features Gene Okerlund, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Hillbilly Jim, Howard Finkel, Jimmy Hart, Roddy Piper, Pat Patterson and Tony Atlas.

Jim Ross Blog: Roberts & Hall Helping Young Talent, 2014 WWE Hall of Fame & More

3

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR wrote about:

2014 WWE Hall of Fame: My only take on the 2014 WWE HOF, that will take place in New Orleans, is that it should not, in my personal opinion, have more than two posthumous inductees. One would be ideal for me but two is my personal, limit.

Damien Sandow: Very impressed with the recent work of @DamienSandow. he’s really evolving on the mic and his aggression inside the ring when timely is noticeable. Another driven talent who re-invented himself in NXT after a somewhat inauspicious tenure in with another persona.

Jake Roberts & Scott Hall Helping With NXT: Was asked if I thought that if either @SCOTTHALLNWO or @jakesnakeDDT could help WWE and especially the NXT brand down the road and my answer is absolutely. Both have brilliant minds and amazing stories to share with the youngsters. However, I’d prefer them to climb one mountain at a time and get completely clean and sober for an extended time before taking on more daily responsibilities like working with NXT if they are even interested in that line of work. I’m pulling for both guys and think of them daily on their “road back.” God Bless @DDPYoga for the work that he’s doing.

RAW’s Announcing Team: Happy that @MichaelCole has added @JCLayfield to the RAW broadcast team along with mainstay @JerryLawler but I wish that JBL and the King would engage each other with a little more debate in a timely fashion. I can envision the ‘tense moments’ that could occur between the talkative Texan and one of the greatest talkers ever in the biz to be great assets to an already talented trio. BTW…check out the @LayfieldReport.

WWE Partnering With Susan G. Komen For New “Make Mom Proud” Campaign

WWE sent out the following press release on Monday morning:

SUSAN G. KOMEN® AND WWE® “MAKE MOM PROUD”

STAMFORD, Conn., May 6, 2013 – Susan G. Komen and WWE (NYSE: WWE) today announced an awareness campaign, “Make Mom Proud,” to support the fight against breast cancer. The TV and digital campaign, which coincides with Mother’s Day, calls on supporters to do something meaningful for their moms and the other important women in their lives.

As part of the campaign, WWE will urge fans to support moms by taking steps to educate themselves about the disease, participate in local Susan G. Komen Races in their communities, and donate to Komen, the world’s largest nonprofit funder of breast cancer research and community outreach programs. The campaign will be promoted through all of WWE’s assets, including TV broadcasts, live events, digital and social media.

“WWE fans are making a tremendous contribution to our mission to help women with breast cancer by supporting our community breast cancer programs for uninsured and underserved women, and through our global breast cancer research,” said Nancy Brinker, founder and CEO of Susan G. Komen. “We’re so grateful for the support of the WWE community in our mission to end suffering from this disease.”

“WWE is dedicated to supporting Susan G. Komen and their fight to eradicate breast cancer,” said Paul “Triple H®” Levesque, Executive Vice President, Talent and Live Events, WWE. “Susan G. Komen is at the forefront of breast cancer research and community outreach programs, and I’m proud that the WWE Universe supporting such an important cause.”

Throughout the month, WWE Superstar Triple H and Divas Alicia Fox and Layla will be featured in a series of public service announcements to generate awareness and encourage fans to get involved. Alicia Fox and Layla will also attend the Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure and its surrounding events on Mother’s Day weekend in Washington, D.C., an area that has among the highest breast cancer mortality rates in the country.

Susan G. Komen and WWE have a history of success in raising awareness for the fight against breast cancer. In September 2012, WWE and Superstar John Cena partnered with Susan G. Komen to launch the “Rise Above Cancer” campaign. Cena wore co-branded, pink and black ring gear that fans were able to purchase throughout October, raising $1 million to support Susan G. Komen’s mission to eradicate breast cancer and save women’s lives.

MAILBAG: Who Are The Best And Worst Babyfaces In WWE History?

21

Got a Question? Submit it with your name to: [email protected]

Q: I want your opinion on WWE doing these crappy short matches on Smackdown. With the Barrett vs. Regal match [in the UK], I was hoping [it would go] at least ten minutes or more. As for the main event, that should have gone longer then it did. I know Undertaker is old and broken down, but I have seen Jon Moxley on the indies in 20-plus minute matches. – Steve from New Jersey

A: Completely agree that WWE dropped the ball on that Barrett vs. Regal match. Especially with Smackdown typically being a more wrestling-heavy show, there was no reason they could not have given those two 10-12 minutes to work together. As for Undertaker, while I do agree his match with Ambrose was quite short, there’s no way Taker should be wrestling 20 minute matches on Smackdown. Save those for PPV.

Q: Who do you think was the worst babyface in WWE and the greatest babyface in WWE? I am not talking about finance wise, I am talking about entertainment wise. – Danish Tanweer

A: Hulk Hogan managed to be both one of the best and worst babyfaces of all time. The fact that half of his promos made absolutely no sense made them very entertaining, and there’s no arguing the length of time he spent on top, yet he would eye gouge and back rake his opponents in every match! Need further proof of what a horrible babyface this guy was? He intentionally drove a wedge between his “best friend” and his wife, he once beat up a hapless mortician, stole his urn and threw ashes in someone’s face, then threw a hissy fit when Sid Justice dumped him out of the Royal Rumble, a match advertised as being every man for himself. And what does this “Real American” role model do in response? He assists the heel in pulling Justice out of the ring! Hogan never really turned heel in 1996, he just changed his wardrobe.

Q: What happened to Christian? Will he be back anytime soon? – Andrew

A: According to WWE physician Michael Sampson, whom I had a chance to speak with at Fan Axxess over WrestleMania weekend, Christian is ready to return. It’s really up to WWE creative at this point when they have a role for him.

Q: Do you think a John Cena heel turn would have the same impact that Hogan’s did when he went from red and yellow to Hollywood Hogan? – Dennis from Tennessee

A: No I don’t. One of the key elements of the Hogan turn that worked to his advantage was the association with Hall and Nash as “outsiders” from the WWF. Hogan had a powerful supporting cast. What would Cena have? Not saying it wouldn’t be refreshing to see he and, say, CM Punk switch sides, but I don’t see it having the same impact the Hogan turn and nWo angle had.

Q: I was wondering if you knew what happened between WWE and Bobby Lashley? When he was released, it surprised me since before that he was in the WWE Championship picture having matches with John Cena. Just wondering if you knew why he got released and if you think there is a chance he could return? – Cameron from Chandler, AZ

A: I don’t believe he was released so much as he wanted out of the company and they acquiesced. You don’t just release a guy who, less than a year earlier, is slotted into one of the biggest attractions in WrestleMania history. Reportedly, it stemmed from things that happened or were said involving his girlfriend Kristal Marshall and head writer Michael Hayes. And yes, there is always a chance he can return. He has not closed that door.

Q: What were your thoughts of Heidenreich? Do you think he had potential? – Zack Holker

A: Yes, he had great potential. As a poet. Maybe a prison inmate. As a wrestler, not so much.

Video: Amy Schumer Talks About “Dating” Dolph Ziggler On Conan

20

Comedienne Amy Schumer was on Conan O’Brian’s late night TBS show this week to promote her new sketch show on Comedy Central. During the interview, she spoke about her past relationship with WWE World Heavyweight champion Dolph Ziggler, specifically, their sex life:

“We were very different sexually, like he was very active in bed, he was like moving around,” Schumer noted. “He was in such good shape. When you’re naked with someone, you wanna be the one brining the thunder. I wanna be able to whisper things like, ‘You’re welcome’ or like, ‘you owe me for this.'”

Ziggler was never mentioned by name on the Conan interview, but a photo was shown of him on screen.

Schumer made very similar comments on The Howard Stern Show last summer, when she said “the sex was too athletic… Always. [But] the first time, I was like, ‘Oh, this is cool. Nobody’s ever ragdolled me.’ He was spinning me like a Globetrotter.”
