*Spoilers* WWE SmackDown Tapings Results For Friday

59

WWE taped this week’s episode of SmackDown on Tuesday night from Hershey, PA. Thanks to Derek J. for the following results:

– Smackdown starts with the WWE Champion The Rock. Rock comes out and cuts a promo about a story when he was younger in the city of Hershey, Pennsylvania. He then cuts a promo on his opponent, John Cena. He gets interrupted by John Laurinaitis, who says he had permission from Teddy Long to come out and talk to the champion. Laurinaitis says that John Cena is the person that caused him from being fired and that he wants retribution. He says that he wants to be in the corner of The Rock. The Rock asks the crowd what they think before he ends up hitting a spinebuster and a people’s elbow on the former General Manager.

Chris Jericho defeated Wade Barrett. The crowd was certainly behind Jericho in a really good match. Jericho would grab a microphone and say that he would love to face Wade Barrett for the Intercontinental Championship, but he is going to have to settle with facing Fandango. The Fandango stage prop drops and Jericho begins to make fun of his name. Fandango comes out only to walk away from Jericho.

– An interview that Matt Striker had with Paul Heyman is shown. He talks about Brock and Triple H’s encounter at Wrestlemania.

– Booker T comes out with Teddy Long. They have Mark Henry and Ryback’s weight lifting competition next. Ryback and Henry get the same score. After this happens, Booker T reminds them of his no contact rule. Henry drops the bar on Ryback’s neck, in which Ryback rolls around grabbing his neck.

Team Hell No and Kaitlyn defeated Dolph Ziggler, Big E Langston, and AJ Lee. Ziggler provided most of the wrestling in the ring until Kane hit his boot to the face of Big E. Kaitlyn would end up spearing AJ and picking up the victory for her team.

The Shield cut a promo on the screen, talking about Justice and beating the trio at Wrestlemania.

Jack Swagger vs. The Great Khali end in a countout. Swagger puts the Patriot Lock on Hornswoggle when Ricardo Rodriguez comes out and taunts Swagger to come and attack him. As Swagger is distracted, Alberto Del Rio locks in his submission hold onto Zeb Colter. Jack Swagger comes back and Del Rio hits him and knocks him out of the ring.

– Backstage interview with The Big Show, Sheamus, and Randy Orton..

Randy Orton, Sheamus, and The Big Show defeated Cody Rhodes, Damien Sandow, and Antonio Cesaro in a very entertaining match. The faces hit their finishers on Rhodes Scholars and Cesaro. After the match, The Shield makes their way to the ring from the crowd. Orton, Sheamus, and Show attack them and beat them up into the crowd.

WrestleMania Retrospective – WrestleMania X (1994)

0

Here’s Part 10 of our WrestleMania Retrospective series, looking back at past WrestleMania events as we march towards WrestleMania 29 on April 7th

WM10-Poster

WrestleMania X (1994)
Tagline: “Ten Years In The Making”
Date: March 20, 1994
Venue: Madison Square Garden, New York, NY
Attendance: 18,065
The Undertaker’s Streak: 3-0 (Did not Compete)

WrestleMania X was the tenth annual WrestleMania professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by the World Wrestling Federation. It took place at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York on March 20, 1994. The central focus of the pay-per-view was the WWF Championship, which was defended in two matches. Lex Luger challenged champion Yokozuna first but the storyline saw Luger disqualified for pushing the referee. Bret Hart faced Yokozuna later in the evening and won the championship by pinning Yokozuna. This led to a lengthy worked feud between Bret and his brother Owen, who defeated Bret in the opening match of the pay-per-view.

WM10-Luger
When Lex Luger pushed special guest referee Mr. Perfect he immediately disqualified Luger and left the ring, thereby turning heel.

Several other major feuds were also highlighted at this event. Razor Ramon defeated Shawn Michaels in a Ladder match to resolve an angle in which the two had argued over the rightful holder of the Intercontinental Championship. Bam Bam Bigelow gained revenge against Doink the Clown, with whom he had been feuding, by teaming with Luna Vachon to defeat Doink and his partner Dink. Randy Savage also settled his feud with Crush by defeating him in a Falls Count Anywhere match.

WM10-Owen
Owen Hart defeats his brother Bret at the beginning of WrestleMania X. Bret however, would get the last laugh later in the night by becoming the WWF Champion.

The event was attended by 18,065 who paid a total of $960,000 in admission fees. The buy rates for this pay-per-view were also less than last years as WrestleMania X drew a buyrate of 1.68 which was less than the 2.0 buyrate that WrestleMania IX achieved.

WM10-ShawnMichaels
Shawn Michael’s on the road to becoming Mr. WrestleMania, competes against Razor Ramon for the WWF Intercontinental Championship.

The Undertaker
His rivalry with Yokozuna culminated in a WWF Championship casket match at the 1994 Royal Rumble. During the match, champion Yokozuna sealed The Undertaker in the casket with the assistance of several other villainous Wippleman-managed wrestlers to win the match. The Undertaker appeared from inside the casket on the video screen, representing his spirit, warning that he would return. The Undertaker did not appear in the WWF for seven months after his loss to Yokozuna including WrestleMania X. In reality, he was given time off to allow a back injury to heal.

For the Ladder match, the Intercontinental belts belonging to Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels were both hanging above the ring, and the first wrestler to use the ladder to reach both belts would be declared the winner. This was the first ever Ladder match at a Wrestlemania. This match has been highly regarded as one of the all time great WrestleMania Matches.

WM10-Crowd
18,065 WWF fans witnessed WrestleMania X. The smallest WrestleMania Madison Square Garden Crowd with the original WrestleMania attendance announced as 19,121, and WrestleMania XX in 2004 announced at an alleged 20,000 fans.

The final match of the night was the WWF Championship match between Yokozuna and Bret Hart. The guest referee for the match was Roddy Piper, while the guest ring announcer was Burt Reynolds and the guest timekeeper was Jennie Garth. Towards the end of the match, When Yokozuna attempted the Banzai drop, he lost his balance and fell to the mat.Hart quickly pinned Yokozuna to win the title. He celebrated in the ring with several of the face wrestlers including Lex Luger, Roddy Piper, Razor Ramon, Tatanka, the 1–2–3 Kid, Sparky Plugg and Randy Savage. Jim Ross Blog: Tonight’s RAW & Rumored Surprise Appearances, NXT Stars Getting Called Up & More

5

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has published his latest blog, which includes thoughts on tonight’s Raw, reality television characters appearing overscripted and WWE’s current process in promoting developmental wrestlers to the main roster. Highlights from the post are as follows:

Tonight’s WWE Raw:

“I’m generally damned if I do and damned if I don’t when it comes to predicting what I feel with be the tenor and feel of Monday Night Raw. If I said that I feel that tonight’s show will be hot then I’m a shill and prone to hyperbole. If I describe that a RAW broadcast, as I did last week, was perplexing then I’m going ‘cryptic.’

“I look at tonight’s RAW very simplistically. I feel the show is in a ‘must win’ situation as it relates to the road to WrestleMania but the same can be said for every Monday Night Raw broadcast since the Elimination Chamber PPV occurred.

“A heightened sense of urgency, from everyone, some timely surprises and a renewed and enhanced focus on the money match aspects of WM29 are imperative to nail tonight in Philly where the arena is sold out.

“Hopefully, the broadcast starts off hot and engages the live audience early so as to sustain momentum and build upon it throughout the three hour broadcast.

“Obviously, what ever closes the show needs to leave fans talking and create some “water cooler talk.”

Rumored Surprise Appearances For Tonight’s RAW

“As I write this, there is lots of online speculation as to who may be appearing on RAW tonight. I hear that the “potentials” could be an impressive gathering. Time will tell and I don’t have that info and if I did I wouldn’t ruin the surprise with ‘spoiler’ info. Another good reason to tune in.”

Reality TV Shows Appearing Overly Produced:

“As a fan of reality TV and one who likely spends too much time watching a variety of reality programs, it’s obvious that after a show has a good first year or two, think @DuckDynastyAE, that the creative people seemingly attempt to become a bigger part of the process by over scripting the characters and storylines.

“The best promo guys that I have ever heard in the sports entertainment biz were those that were natural extensions of their own, real personalities and they had the ability to take specific bullet points regarding said promo, make it their own, and deliver in a organic, captivating, memorable genuine manner.

“If I were producing @DuckDynastyAE, I’d turn Si Robertson loose and use what he gave me.

“Over producing reality show elements lessens the effectiveness of any program whether it be Duck Dynasty, Swamp People, two of my favorites, along with Redneck Island or a sports entertainment program. However too much blame is place on the producers rather than sharing it with the talents who are obligated to execute the plan no matter the material.”

Developmental Wrestlers Getting Called Up After WrestleMania:

“It will be interesting to see who from NXT are called up to the main roster of WWE after WrestleMania. I don’t expect it to happen right away because the key to introducing any talent is having a viable, long term plan which is why The Shield have become difference makers and why I feel Big E Langston will have a breakout year in 2013 as well. I’d much rather stay in NXT until my game plan was set than not. First impressions and the subsequent follow up are crucial to the success of any new talent.”

Ross also discusses his current mindset in regards to broadcasting again, Gerald Brisco recruiting amateur wrestlers, WWE’s live event business, and more. His full post is available here.
