Justin Credible On How He Wound Up In WWE As Aldo Montoya, Discusses Triple H’s Rise To Stardom

4

Justin Credible joined Inside The Ropes last Thursday where he recalled his tenure with WWE in the mid-1990s. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

How he went from appearing as enhancement talent on Raw to landing a contract with WWE in 1994: “I live in Connecticut, I live 45 minutes from WWE headquarters and I was doing jobs (on TV) and one day the office called me and they said, “We need you to come down to the office and work out with Mark, Undertaker. We have somebody coming in that’s gonna do a double Undertaker and we need to train him during the week to look like Mark and do his moves.”

“So basically they paid me $150 a day to go up there and be a crash test dummy for Brian Lee doing the impostor Undertaker. We did it all week and on Friday we did a dress rehearsal with Brian Lee in full Undertaker gear and Mark was sitting there and (Vince McMahon) and Pat Patterson, one of the bookers at the time, came down and saw the entire dress rehearsal and at the end, Pat and Vince come up to me and started asking me questions about where I was from, who trained me. But the next question they asked me was, what nationality I was. So I told Vince I was Portuguese and he said, “Ahhh, you’re Portuguese, do you speak it?” I told him yeah absolutely and he laughed and said good and that was it. So low and behold I found out later they’d been fixing to do the Aldo Montoya gimmick anyway and they had it written up. So they were looking for a legitimate Portuguese kid to come in and do the gimmick and I was just the in the right place at the right time.”

Thoughts on Triple H: “I was there when Hunter came in. I was his first set of matches around the loop. I was real close with (Kevin Nash), (Shawn Michaels), (Scott Hall) and (Sean Waltman). I remember, in 1996, we weren’t making much money so Hunter and I would share like a $40 room at Red Roof Inns across the country. I knew he had the passion, I knew he had ability. He just wasn’t…..his rise to stardom was very slow for a very long time. He just wasn’t getting over. That thing with the bow and the snob gimmick just was not getting over. The office kept trying and trying, he was beating everybody, they were giving him storyline after storyline, but the fans just weren’t biting. But Vince kept trying and you know the Kliq thing, the curtain call, Paul went out and he got put in the doghouse. Vince buried him on the road and on TV for almost a full year. For a long time, I didn’t think Paul was gonna get to where he is today that’s for sure. It’s just amazing, time heals all wounds, You know the persistence paid off. He’s a hard working guy, passionate about this business. For that I respect him.”

Credible also recalls his feud with Jeff Jarrett, being trained by The Harts and discussed the difficulty of appearing as Aldo Montoya character while knowing it would only be a short term character. He joins the show again this Thursday to discuss ECW and his run during the Invasion in 2001. To hear this interview and for details about his appearance on this week’s show, click here.

Jim Ross Blog: Bryan vs. Rollins, Tim Tebow In WWE, Wyatt Family

7

Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR said about:

Daniel Bryan vs. Seth Rollins from RAW: “@WWEDanielBryan vs. @WWERollins was one of the best bouts on Raw in many moons. This was excellent from start to finish, an announcer’s dream really, and is a great match for NXT athletes or those wanting o make it to WWE Development to study. Both the winner and the loser improved their perception and enhanced their personas when this match ended.”

Tim Tebow In WWE: “If @TimTebow, for some reason, fails to make it in New England, I’m sure that I can get him a tryout in WWE Developmental. Roll your eyes if you choose but there’s a TV rating and a PPV number in that concept notwithstanding all the media that it would generate. Plus, Tebow could be a valuable member of the WWE team doing community service projects in addition to learning to perform inside the ring. Tebow might rival John Cena as the most polarizing talent ever in WWE.”

The Third Wyatt Family Vignette On RAW: “Another great, creative production building anticipation for the pending debut of Bray Wyatt and his “Family.” It doesn’t bother me when fans on Twitter @JRsBBQ compare Bray Wyatt with Waylon Mercy no more than it did when fans compared Waylon Mercy to ‘Cape Fear’s’ Sam Cady.”

Kane added that he’s had a great time teaming with Bryan because it’s been creatively fulfilling and has allowed him to “show a completely different side” to his character.

Dolph Ziggler Mocks WWE Creative, Update On Orton’s Face/Heel Status

14

– We’ve received several emails from fans asking if Randy Orton has finally turned heel after he hit Daniel Bryan with an RKO on SmackDown. Orton wrestled as a babyface at this weekend’s WWE Live Events and actually teamed with Daniel Bryan again at those shows. There was no dissension between the two Superstars, so it appears Orton’s RKO (which was in retaliation to Daniel Bryan accidentally drop kicking him) was an isolated incident.

– World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler took a few shots at WWE creative on Twitter raerlier today. When asked a fan how one becomes a showoff, Ziggler replied:

Jim Ross Blog: Ziggler’s Return, Daniel Bryan, McMahon Drama, Payback & More

3

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR wrote about:

Dolph Ziggler Returning To RAW Tonight: “It’s been smart of WWE to continue to hold World Champion Dolph Ziggler out of contact. There should be no rush and to err on the side of caution is always best for any injury especially a concussion. I expect Ziggler to make his presence felt in a big way tonight on RAW just six days prior to Payback. Ziggler is one of WWE’s most valuable resources and I fully expect for him to have a breakout year in 2013 leading into something significant at WM30 in New Orleans.”

Daniel Bryan Stealing the Show: “Will Daniel Bryan continue to steal the show tonight on WWE’s flagship broadcast as he has the past few weeks? I’m relatively certain that he will find a way. We had a young man in the recent Tampa tryout camp who reminded me of Daniel Bryan a great deal. I suggested to him that he watch every Daniel Bryan match that he could find. Same body type and a perfectionist in mastering the in ring drills. Plus, he won a Gold Medal at the Pan American Games in wrestling.”

McMahon Family Drama: “Curious to follow the storyline involving HHH, Mr. McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and, subsequently, Curtis Axel on RAW tonight. I have no idea where this matter is headed but I can say that for Curtis Axel to be in this conversation with the aforementioned individuals is nothing but good for the son of Mr. Perfect.”

WWE Payback: “John Cena vs. Ryback is the official headliner for the Payback PPV but they will be hard pressed to follow CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho in Punk’s hometown and with both men’s penchant for show stealing. Two, highly skilled, proud performers like Jericho and Punk will make it very difficult for whatever immediately follows them to succeed. I could see a Divas match being held immediately after Punk/Y2J finish their business in the Windy City. I’d expect more Payback PPV bouts to be made official tonight considering that this is the last Monday Night RAW prior to the PPV in Chicago on Sunday.”

WWE’s New Performance Center: “One of the best attributes of the new, WWE Performance Center will be the presence of a full time strength and conditioning coach who will have world class equipment with which to work. Over time, we will see talents transform their bodies and become stronger and more explosive thanks to an organized, systematic training regime that has never been utilized to this degree ever in the business. This matter hasn’t been discussed that much but, trust me, it is a huge feature of the new facility.”

Tommy Dreamer Talks About House Of Hardcore Coming To Philly (6/22)

2

ECW original and House of Hardcore promoter Tommy Dreamer was recently interviewed by PhillyBurbs.com about HoH’s upcoming Philadelphia debut on June 22 at the National Guard Armory. Dreamer, who will have Terry Funk in his corner, will wrestle fellow ECW alum Lance Storm in the main event. The show will also feature a special appearance by Ric Flair. Here are some highlights of what Dreamer said about:

House of Hardcore Coming To Philly:

“I know how passionate Philadelphia is about its sports teams, and that’s exactly how I view pro wrestling. Philly is known for its honesty. I am a brutally honest person, anyone who knows me will tell you that. And I love Philadelphia because it’s like me.”

“I’m a wrestling fan, and I want to give the people coming a great night out,” he said. “So we have Ric Flair, we have Terry Funk stepping in a wrestling ring one more time, we have The Young Bucks against Brian Kendrick & Paul London, and there will be things that no other tag teams can do in this one, and then you have the Steiner Brothers and there will be fans who want to see them, and then you have young guys like Tony Ness, Sami Callihan and unheralded guys like Pety Williams. And we’ll have surprises because I love surprises.

“We have the same saying that we had in ECW and that’s ‘go out and steal the show.’ If the guy behind you can’t follow you, they shouldn’t be there. I want a kickass show.”

How HoH Is Different Than ECW:

“In ECW, we were all blood and guts, but that was a different era,” Dreamer said. “Now, it’s just good wrestling. No foul language. I went to my first wrestling show when I was 8. I went with my father and I watched Ric Flair versus Ricky Steamboat and my dad said, ‘that was real.’ That was great wrestling and that’s what we want to do. We just want to put on a fun, three-hour show.”

Jake Roberts Talks 2014 Royal Rumble, His Dream Opponent, DDP Yoga & More

3

WWE legend Jake “The Snake” Roberts recently appeared on Wrestling Heels Radio. Here are some highlights:

Possibly returning at the 2014 Royal Rumble:“That’s my dream. That’s my dream. That’s nothing they’ve said. I’ve been wanting to go back, man. Whenever I started losing the weight, whenever I started seeing the world again, whenever I started seeing progress in myself, when I seen – when I started dreaming again, man, dreaming of not so much getting back to the ring, at first. The dreams at first were taking awalk. I went and actually walked up Stone Mountain, man, few months ago, and I could not do that years ago even when, you know, I was in wrestling form, you know? It was a very tough experience.”

Who he’d like to face in WWE:“I would wrestle Shane McMahon. I think I’d enjoy that, and I think it would be a match he could be proud of and that I could be proud of. There’s lots of other guys – a few other guys. I say lots, but there’s a few other guys I wouldn’t mind being in the ring with. I think I could do something spectacular with [John] Cena, but here’s the thing. I could do something spectacular with anybody ’cause Jake the Snake did that. I’ve proven that.”

CM Punk’s promos:“Well, he’s trying to slow it down, but he doesn’t get it yet. You know what, man? Here’s the thing. We’ll just throw this out here. WWE, Jake the Snake calling. I have a proposition, okay? Here’s my proposition. You give me five weeks. Give me an hour a week with five guys, and I will significantly change not only them but I will change the look of Raw, in five weeks. I will do it by simply talking to them, by sitting them underneath the learning tree if you will and just casting it out there, letting them absorb what I give and I won’t exactly remember everything I tell them that they’ll get enough to change your product significantly. Trust me. Ta da.”

DDP Yoga:“It’s incredible, Bro. It is just incredible. I mean all the years I spent in gyms and, believe it or not, I did work out. I mean, there was a lot of sacrificing going to gyms. There’s a lot of pain in trying to do too much weight ’cause you think that’s going to make you bigger. No, it’s going to – it might make you bigger for a short time until your injuries start to come up through it, but all those years, I was doing that stuff to my body and I didn’t have a clue as to what I was doing, man.

“Back then, a workout you went inthe gymand you pushed as hard as you could with as much as you could, and, of course, you supplemented that with powders and pills and steroids. You do get bigger, but at the same time, you’re tearing your body apart, you know. See, god didn’t make us to carry 300 pounds on are back. It’s just been recently, in the last several years, that people have gotten into core strength, and that’s the most important part, man. I mean, it was such idiots not to have learned it sooner because, I mean, the biggest part of your body is the trunk of your body, your chest and your waist and your abs.

“That’s the biggest part, and if you start building power there, that feeds out into your arms and your legs, whereas before we’re out there just trying to make our arms bigger. So I’ll just move that. We’re not doing anything for our core strength, and our core strength is where the power comes from. So if you don’t build your power plan, you’re just wasting time, and it’s really – it aggravates me and chaps my ass. Thisworkoutis so much easier and you get twice the results It’s incredible. It’s not – you don’t have to make it impossible. My mother, she’s in a rest home. I’m trying to get her doing it because you can actually do it from a wheelchair. The upper-body stuff she could do, and working with the dynamic resistance, that’s the whole key, man.

“You make your body work against itself. So you’re not going to do too much because, you know, you can try as hard as you want. You can’t overdo it unless you start doing all these extreme things. So you start out slow and you build. There’sworkoutsthere to fit every need, and there’s DVDs. There’s workouts there to fit, the psycho, could go for an hour and a half and then there’s workouts that works specifically, maybe, on your waist or whatever, that go 10, 15 minutes. And the results are just unbelievable. He never started this program thinking aboutweight loss. That wasn’t his – that wasn’t his directive. He wanted to do something to help with the injuries and to help with the core strength. Well, he did it, man, but then he goes into this eating plan and he won’t let you call it a diet because you’re not dieting. You’re getting much healthier, you know? First three letter of diet is die. No, man. We’re not dying.”
